  • How to access the SD card through my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Phone?

    I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc phone and I cannot access its SD card through the USB cable provided. I have set the USB connection mode to MSC yet when I connect the phone to my computer I cannot see the SD card (or anything for that matter). The Disk Utility however, does see an SEMC Mass Storage device but it says that no media was detected. I have validated that the SD card works as I removed it from the camera and plugged it into a card reader and saw all the photos and files stored on it. I have validated that the phone works as I have connected it (in MSC mode) to my wife's Windows 7 computer. Can anyone please tell me how I can access the SD card on my phone.

I would like to be able to achieve the following: (they are all laptops) Remote Desktop Support Patch management Lock down software on machines (restrict them) Monitor and manage systems Other benefits would be good, but if I can achieve the ones listed above, it will go a long way.     Hi i have installed windows 7 on my 2 year old ASUS EEE PC 1000HD. The default Operating system it came with was windows xp. Now the system is working fine but there are some display problems which i am going to state now: Firstly, during booting windows 7 logo is missing. There are no options for resolution changes. The only option possible is 800x600. The boot time is quite long when compared to xp. The graphics driver used in this system is STANDARD VGA GRAPHICS ADAPTER. The processor is intel celeron with 1GB RAM. I think with these requirements it is possible to get windows 7 with finer resolution. But why these problems are occurring?I even tried to install graphics driver provided by intel for this system. But i ve got the error message "this system doesn't meet the necessary requirements". So how to overcome this problem??

    Sometimes when I turn on my homemade desktop computer (running 64-bit Windows 7), the left mouse click and enter key doesn't work. They work well in BIOS, as well as on the Windows 7 BCD and login screen. Usually, restarting the computer solves the problem. Why does this keep happening? I've tried: Using other USB ports Refreshing, repairing and reinstalling drivers Changing mouse settings Refreshing mouse profiles My keyboard is a Logitech G510, and my mouse is a Razer Lanchesis 5600. Both work without problems in Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 8.1 Preview, and I've been using both on my 64-bit Windows 7 homemade desktop without problems for about a year and a half.     I am running ghost 2003 command -fdsp, but once we have cloned the image and restored it onto exactly the same make and model machine, we are force to run win7 setup and run a repair which fixes the boot menu, I want to prevent this requirement to fix the problem, any suggestions besides the obvious of using Windows AIK tools, new versions of ghost/clonzilla. I want to prevent the problem in the first place, it's 1 partition only, on a levano workstation m82 with UEFI and a 100mb system reserved partition. Windows Boot Manager screen and states: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If I write this commands cd c:\test for %f in (*.txt) do echo %f I will get the result where both a.txt and b.txtv are listed. The same happens with cd c:\test dir *.txt It seems .txt is the same of .txtv. I have Windows XP SP3 in Italian and the result of ver is Microsoft Windows XP [Versione 5.1.2600]. The same result is from Windows 7 in English Microsoft Windows XP [Version 6.1.7601].

    At work we have laptops with encrypted harddrives. Most developers here (on occasion I have been guilty of it too) leave their laptops in hibernate mode when they take them home at night. Obviously, Windows (i.e. there is a program running in the background which does it for windows) must have a method to unencrypt the data on the drive, or it wouldn't be able to access it. That being said, I always thought that leaving a windows machine on in hibernate mode in a non-secure place (not at work on a lock) is a security threat, because someone could take the machine, leave it running, hack the windows accounts and use it to encrypt the data and steal the information. When I got to thinking about how I would go about breaking into the windows system without restarting it, I couldn't figure out if it was possible. I know it is possible to write a program to crack windows passwords once you have access to the appropriate file(s). But is it possible to execute a program from a locked Windows system that would do this? I don't know of a way to do it, but I am not a Windows expert. If so, is there a way to prevent it? I don't want to expose security vulnerabilities about how to do it, so I would ask that someone wouldn't post the necessary steps in details, but if someone could say something like "Yes, it's possible the USB drive allows arbitrary execution," that would be great! EDIT: The idea being with the encryption is that you can't reboot the system, because once you do, the disk encryption on the system requires a login before being able to start windows. With the machine being in hibernate, the system owner has already bypassed the encryption for the attacker, leaving windows as the only line of defense to protect the data.

    Our installer writes common files, shared betweeen users, to a user-selectable location. However, in Vista (and maybe in win7 too), the installer does not see any network drives or network locations. This is because in Vista, the drive is mapped to the current user, and the installer starts elevated, as administrator. I can't imagine i'm the first to experience this problem, so what's the recommended solution for this ? Just ignore it, and provide your own "Copy database folder to network" method in the software ?

  • How to move the Windows 7 bootloader to the Windows 7 partition?

    I recently installed Windows 7 in a triple boot setup alongside XP and Linux. When I was finished and was in the process of restoring the bootloader for Linux I discovered something strange about what Windows 7 had done. I discovered that Windows 7 had not installed a bootloader to it's own partition, and instead had instead set up a bootloader on the pre-existing XP partition that offers a choice between 7 and XP. This behaviour has been noticed by others. Now my booting is slightly odd. I have GRUB on the MBR which lets me choose between Linux and Windows. When I select Windows I have Grub boot to the XP partition where I get the 2nd choice between 7 and XP. Why doesn't the Windows 7 installer put the Windows 7 bootloader on the Windows 7 partition like all previous MS OSs? This is now going to be a real problem for me, as I now want to wipe the XP partition and install something else there (probably another non-MS OS). How can I move the bootloader for Windows 7 onto the Windows 7 partition, thus making it bootable and allowing me to safely wipe the XP partition?

  • Need a fast programming language that can drive two printers

    I have a rather unusual application that isn't working the way I need, and I hope someone here will have some suggestions or at least a direction to investigate. We have a museum exhibit that has a computer at the entrance driving two small receipt printers. There are two buttons on a console, wired to the left and right buttons of a disemboweled mouse. The two printers and associated buttons are for girls and boys, each button does a random selection from a database of names and prints a small ticket on the appropriate printer with a graphic image, a few words about the exhibit and the randomly chosen name. Conceptually all is well, but it hangs quite often. I got the project at the last minute, because the original designer got bogged down and couldn't deliver, so the exhibit's author asked me the day before opening, whether I could write something that would work. I did it in Word, since I am an experienced VBA programmer. Several other avenues I attempted first all lead to dead ends - one couldn't do graphics, another couldn't handle two printers, yet another couldn't change fonts and so on. The problem is that it simply isn't fast enough - Word can only drive one printer at a time and changing the active printer takes a long time. Not by office standards, where a second or two of delay before a printer starts working on your document is not an issue, but here I need more or less instant response. If kids press a button and nothing happens, they press it over and over until something does happen, resulting in maybe half a dozen commands being sent before the printer starts reacting. Sometimes it jams the program completely, since boys and girls will be pressing the two buttons simultaneously and Word locks up, and even when it doesn't jam, the printers then spit out a stream of tickets, making a mess. The kids start squabbling over which ticket is whose, pulling them out of the printers, snarling the paper tape, jamming the printer and generally making a mess of the whole affair, often necessitating the exhibit caretakers having to restart the computer and clear torn bits of paper out the printers. What I need is some sort of fast programming language that can drive two printers *-simultaneously-*, not the MSOffice claptrap of having to switch the active printer, that can react to both left and right mouse button click events, can print a small graphic image and can print in different font sizes and styles and. I don't need many, but it's not all in one typeface. Can anyone suggest what I might use for this? I don't even know if it's possible at all under Windows, whether the "single active printer" garbage is an Office artifact, or a Windows restriction. My little Commodore-64 twenty-five years ago had two printers attached to it and drove both simultaneously with no difficulties - it doesn't seem to me it should be such an impossible requirement today.

    I am using VirtualBox 4.1.18 and had a virtual machine running Windows 8 RC with a single VHD, which was initially sized at 25GB (too small!).     While CD (and to an lesser extend DVD) disks have reached the price-point of the floppy, they have one significant downside, it is WORM (Write-Once Read-Many) media, allowing it to be used only one single time, and you need to be explicit in writing the data to the actual media (you need to burn it.) While CD-RW solves the "use only once" problem, it is still EWORM (Erasable Write-Once Read-Many) media, which still means you need to be explicit in writing the data to the actual media (you still need to burn it.), and also, you still need to be very explicit in erasing it. (simple delete is not possible.) Okay, we can use a CD-RW in Packet Writing mode, however the downside to that, is that this mode is not very universal, and also, not the native mode of the media. Now, while USB-sticks and SD-cards may not have the poblems of the CD, they have a whole other kind of problem: their PRICE! USB-sticks and SD cards are generally 10 to 100 times as expensive as diskettes per piece. SD-cards, in addition have an added problem, because they need a reader to operate. While it is a very standard thing, it is not default equipment on the computer like the CD drive or USB port (or historically the diskette drive). You wouldn't give out an USB stick or SD card with a 100 kB text file, not caring weither you would get it back or not. So, to recap: CD & DVD are basically WORM media. SD cards and USB sticks are relatively expensive. SD cards also needs special readers. Diskettes have a very low data-rate Diskettes have a very low storage capacity. Now, is there a media out there that solves all these problems, or is there a way to get (very) small USB sticks or SD cards for a very low price (as they're the closest thing to diskette).

  • Changing the default boot option without losing the boot menu

    I've had a working multi-boot setup with the Windows boot loader, containing menu items for two Windows 7 systems, and one for Grub. Grub in turn contains multiple menu items, but I think that's not relevant here. I've upgraded one system to Windows 8. When I now set a different system as the default, I lose the boot menu, and I lose the possibility of booting into the other systems. I've set Windows 7 as the default, rebooted, and get Windows 7, but I don't get to choose which system to boot into. I can run its own bcdedit to change the default back to Windows 8, and another reboot shows the boot menu again, but how can I avoid defaulting to Windows 8? Here are my current boot settings, is there anything that is misconfigured?   • How can I pair two bluetooth dongles together?

    I want to hack a device which connects via USB, and plug a bluetooth USB dongle to the end of the USB cable (using a female to female adapter), and then connect to that device from another USB bluetooth dongle connected to my computer. How can I do this? It is straightforward? I don't want to spend $30 before I know how to do this. Also I think another concern is that the USB cable is providing power to the device. So I think that means I would also have to hack it for power. I have created this diagram in Photoshop to illustrate my intent: (NOTE: it won't be a USB mouse, as that would be pointless because there are already wireless mice in existence. The mouse is displayed for illustrative purposes) Don't tell me "it won't work". Because I KNOW it WILL work. Think for example, PS3 controller. That works, and in fact I was able to get it working with my laptop, over bluetooth. I just want to know HOW to make it work.

    If you try to install the Camera Codec pack for Windows 7 on Windows 8, you get an error: This version of the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack is not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. You can get the codec pack through Windows Update on Windows 8. However, I cannot see anywhere on Windows update that would suggest I can download this, even as an optional update? Is it just the case that it is not yet live, as everything filters through the RTM process, or is it hidden away as something else?

    Since Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio comes with a development web server: the ASP.NET Development Server. I’ve been using this web server for simple test projects since than with Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 in Windows XP Professional on my work laptop and Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate and Windows 7 64bit Ultimate at my home desktop without any problems (apart the known custom identity problem, that is). When I received my new work laptop, I installed Windows Vista 64bit Enterprise and Visual Studio 2008 and, for my surprise, the ASP.NET Development Server wasn’t working. I started looking for differences between the laptop environment and the desktop environment and the most notorious differences were: System Laptop Desktop SKU Windows Vista 64bit Enterprise Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate Joined to a Domain Yes No Anti-Virus McAffe ESET After asserting that no domain policies were being applied to my laptop and domain user and nothing was being logged by the ant-virus, my suspicions turned to the fact that the laptop was running an Enterprise SKU and the desktop was running an Ultimate SKU. After having problems with other applications I was sure that problem was the Enterprise SKU, but never found a solution to the problem. Because I wasn’t doing any web development at the time, I left it alone. After upgrading to Windows 7, the problem persisted but, because I wasn’t doing any web development at the time, once again, I left it alone. Now that I installed Visual Studio 2010 I had to solve this. After searching around forums and blogs that either didn’t offer an answer or offered very complicated workarounds that, sometimes, involved messing with the registry, I came to the conclusion that the solution is, in fact, very simple. When Windows Vista is installed, hosts file, according to this contains this definition: 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost This was not what I had on my laptop hosts file. What I had was this: #127.0.0.1 localhost #::1 localhost I might have changed it myself, but from the amount of people that I found complaining about this problem on Windows Vista, this was probably the way it was. The installation of Windows 7 leaves the hosts file like this: #127.0.0.1 localhost #::1 localhost And although the ASP.NET Development Server works fine on Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, on Windows 7 64bit Enterprise it needs to be change to this: 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost And I suspect it’s the same with Windows Vista 64bit Enterprise.
