• What is the relation between NetworkManager and network service in Fedora/RHEL/Centos?

  Hi I am new to Fedora/Centos/RHEL. I am confused about NetworkManager and network service in these Linux OS. May I know what is the relation between NetworkManager and network service? If I am using NetworkManager, do i need to turn off network service? Similarly, if I am using network service, do I need to turn off NetworkManager? Will they conflict with each other if I use both application at the same time?

• Running a shell script in *nix

  Bit of a newb using *nix (I'm actually using a bash shell in OS X 10.5) and I wondered what the probably very simple answer is to this... When I write a script (called, say, my_script) and I've saved it to the current directory, why do I have to put a period and a forward slash in front of its name to run it? Like this: ./my_script Can't the shell tell that I want to run it from the current directory? Windows seems to handle that situation. Cheers Ben

• Windows 2008 Boot DVD

  I am looking to create a custom boot DVD to run my unattended installs of windows 2008. I would like to have a menu system that lets the tech select what version of the OS they would like to install and version (x86/x64). I know you can run the windows 2008 setup, and exit to command prompt, but I would like there to just be a menu that will kick off whichever script needed. What would be the best way to do this?   I'm working with a Sun x4540 unit with two pools and newly-installed ZIL (OCZ Vertex 2 Pro) and L2ARC (Intel X25-M) devices. Since I need to keep these two pools in the near-term, I'd like to know how to partition these devices to serve both pools of data. I've tried format, parted and fdisk and can't quite seem to get the right combination to generate recognizable partitions for zpool add. The OS in this case is NexentaStor, but I will also need this for general OpenSolaris solutions.

  I use a Dvorak keyboard layout, controlled through the language bar "United States-Dvorak". I'm trying to use the Chinese IME (Simplified, Pinyin), but whenever I switch to that mode, the keys go back to QWERTY, so I can't type... Note: The OS is Windows 7, which has the new Pinyin IME. Edit: I wish I could put my SO rep up for a bounty here. :\ I guess 100 has to do for now.

  On a lenovo ThinkServer RD240 running firmware 1.20 with the latest BNC software, using the remote console to redirect a CD-ROM fails with the error: "CD-ROM redirection is not supported on this platform". Similar error for forwarding an iso image, foppy and USB drive. I tried executing the management console from Ubuntu, Windows 7 and OS X with the exact same error. The question is: What platform does the jViewer console support any kind of media redirection?

• Losing connection when watching flash videos

  Whenever I play a flash video on my browser (whichever I use, Chrome, Firefox or IE), there's a risk that I lose my Internet connection. I know it's limited to my computer only as my roommates are unaffected. I'm the only one that loses connection. Using Internet Explorer's diagnosis tool always repairs the connection, but it's annoying as hell. My OS is Windows XP, if that matters. Anyone knows what may be causing this and how to fix it?

  I’m using TextMate 1.5.10 on OS X Lion, and for some weird reason I don‘t get autocomplete for single quotes ('). Double quotes (") work fine. Since I personally prefer to use single quotes whenever I code in JavaScript or PHP, that thing annoys me a little. And as far I have googled, TextMate is actually supposed to autoclose single quotes by default. So why doesn’t this work for me and how do I force-enable this feature?

• Enabling RSA Toolbar in IE8

  OS - Win7 Utlimate 64 bit I have installed the RSA security toolbar used to VPN into my corporate network. I can see that RSA Toolbar is enabled in the Manage Add-Ons window. However I do not see the toolbar when I right-click in the toolbar section in IE. The add-on manger says that the toolbar is loaded but I cant get it to show in the toolbars section Any ideas? TIA
