• How to raise a validation event from a key press

  Hi, I want to raise the: private void txtbox_startdate_Validating(object sender, System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs e) {} Function from a key leave event. The leave event looks like: private void txtbox_startdate_Leave(object sender, EventArgs e) {} The trouble is of course if I try and call it in this manner: txtbox_startdate_Validating(sender, e) An error is raised because in this case 'e' is an EventArgs whereas the validation function wants a System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs and so, how do I convert EventArgs to a System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs or create one so that I can call my validation function? • Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon'

  I'm having trouble using the Ribbon control from the Office 2007 RibbonControlsLibrary.dll. It works for most people but not for me. The fault I get is: Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon' defined in assembly 'RibbonControlsLibrary, Version=3.5.31016.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation The problem is probably not with the code since it works for other people. Its the Ribbon class thats causing the problem. If I remove any references to the Ribbon class but keep the references to RibbonWindow I don't get any exceptions. Any help appreciated

• After Delete Trigger Fires Only After Delete?

  I thought "after delete" meant that the trigger is not fired until after the delete has already taken place, but here is my situation... I made 3, nearly identical SQL CLR after delete triggers in C#, which worked beautifully for about a month. Suddenly, one of the three stopped working while an automated delete tool was run on it. By stopped working, I mean, records could not be deleted from the table via client software. Disabling the trigger caused deletes to be allowed, but re-enabling it interfered with the ability to delete. So my question is 'how can this be the case?' Is it possible the tool used on it futzed up the memory? It seems like even if the trigger threw an exception, if it is AFTER delete, shouldn't the records be gone? All the trigger looks like is this: ALTER TRIGGER [sysdba].[AccountTrigger] ON [sysdba].[ACCOUNT] AFTER DELETE AS EXTERNAL NAME [SQL_IO].[SQL_IO.WriteFunctions].[AccountTrigger] GO The CLR trigger does one select and one insert into another database. I don't yet know if there are any errors from SQL Server Mgmt Studio, but will update the question after I find out.

  For example, i have a column named EmployeeName. Every time a user changes/fix his name, i need to keep a count. If he changes his name twice, then count is 2. Also, i need to store the time of every change employee makes on EmployeeName e.g. if the name essentially is James and time created is 9:00 AM and then employee changes to John on 11:00 AM, i need to preserve this new time and new value as well as the previous one which is James at 9:00 AM.   I'm trying to write a query to tell me which orders have valid promocodes. Promocodes are only valid between certain dates and optionally certain packages. I'm having trouble even explaining how this works (see psudo-ish code below) but basically if there are packages associated with a promocode then the order has to have one of those packages and be within a valid date range otherwise it just has to be in a valid date range. The whole "if PrmoPackage rows exist" thing is really throwing me off and I feel like I should be able to do this without a whole bunch of Unions. (I'm not even sure if that would make it easier at this point...)   I`m having two projects (x64). A. written in C (wxWidgets) B. written in c++ A compiles fine. B uses funcions of A. When I try to compile, I`m getting several errors. I suggest that the reason for the errors is the same for all, so I mention only the first: It says: strlen: identifier not found. But I have included the headers: #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> So, currently, I have just no idea where to start to search for the reason of the errors. • How can I export images from SQL Server to a file on disk?

  I have a User table that has all of their avatars saved in an image field. I'd like to just take that out of the database and store it as a regular file on disk. I looked around and saw some code for textcopy, but that doesn't seem to be on my machine for some reason. Here is the code I wrote up anyway. Anyone know a way to get this done? • .config file not loaded from working directory

  I am new to using .config files, having worked on apps that use .INI files and the registry until very recently. I am seeing a behavior in VS2008 that I would not anticipate, and wonder if it is the expected one. When I configure the Working Directory setting in the VS2008 IDE for my Foo.exe application, I would have guessed that Foo.exe.config would get loaded from that Working Directory. It does not; it gets loaded from the ..\bin\Debug directory, even if I have a Foo.exe.config file in that Working Directory. If I examine the Environment.CurrentDirectory while the configuration is being applied by setting a breakpoint, I see that it is ..\bin\Debug. When I examine the Environment.CurrentDirectory after my main UI's Loaded event, it is set to the Working Directory I applied in the IDE. Is this correct? (Why?)

Actually, I don't want any output meta data. How can I do this?

• Migrating from Physical SQL (SQL2000) To VMWare machine (SQL2008) - Transferring Large DB

  We're in the middle of migrating from a windows & SQL 2000 box to a Virtualised Win & SQL 2k8 box The VMWare box is on a different site, with better hardware, connectivity etc... The old(current) physical machine is still in constant use - I've taken a backup of the DB on this machine, which is 21GB Transfering this to our virtual machine took around 7+ hours - which isn't ideal when we do the "actual" switchover. My question is - How should I handle the migration better? Could i set up our current machine to do log shipping to the VM machine to keep up to date? then, schedule down time out of hours to do the switch over? Is there a better way?

This is my interpretation of what multiline comments are, and what I want to have happen: /** * <summary> * this comment is on line 1 in the tooltip * this comment is on line 2 in the tooltip * </summary> */ However, when I use this form, the tooltip that pops up when I hover over my class name in my code is single-line, i.e. it looks exactly as if I had written my comment like this: /// <summary> /// this comment is on line 1 in the tooltip /// this comment is on line 2 in the tooltip /// </summary> Is this behavior actually possible still in VS2008?

• I've created a database table using Visual Studio for my C# program. Now what?

  Hi! I'm very new to C#, so please forgive me if I've overlooked something here. I've created a database using Visual Studio (add new item service-based database) called LoadForecast.mdf. I then created a table called ForecastsDB and added some fields. My main question is this: I've created a console application with the intention of writing some data to the newly created database. I've added LoadForecast.mdf as a data source for my program, but is there anything else I should do? I saw an example where the next step was adding a "data diagram", but this was for a visual application, not a console application. Do I still need to diagram the database for my console app? I just want to be able to write new records out to my database table and wasn't sure if there were any other things I needed to do for the VS environment to be "aware" of my database. Thanks for any advise!
