• Where should I put WPF specific code when using MVVM?

  I'm just getting up to speed on MVVM, but all the examples I've seen so far are binding View controls to simple non-WPF specific data types such as strings and ints. However in our app I want to be able to set a button's border brush based on a number in the Model. At the moment, I translate the number into a brush in the ViewModel to keep the View XAML only, but is that right? I don't like putting WPF specific code in the ViewModel, but equally I don't like the idea of putting code-behind on my View panel. Which is the best way? Thanks

• UIPopover Sizing

  I have a UIPopoverController which I'm trying to show from a UIBarButtonItem in a navigation bar. Despite setting the resizing mask for the tableview inside the popover's content viewController, it takes up the whole height of the screen. The only thing which has any effect on the content size is menuPopover.contentViewController.view setFrame:CGRect. I'm using the code below to show the popover inside the left hand side of a UISplitViewController // menuPopover and editVc are properties on the parent viewController menuPopover = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:editVc]; [menuPopover presentPopoverFromBarButtonItem:btnMenu permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionAny animated:true]; [menuPopover setPopoverContentSize:CGSizeMake(400, 500) animated:true]; [menuPopover.contentViewController.view setFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,400, 500)]; Yet this is what I'm seeing. • What does Rails script/server -d do differently that would cause a cells template to not be found

  I'm using cells. I used the generator to create a cell so the path to my template was automatically chosen to be app/cells/displayer/table.html.erb where displayer is the name of the cell and table is the name of the state. When I run script/server in the foreground, everything works perfectly. But when I run script/server -d, I get "Missing template displayer/table.erb in view path app/cells:app/cells/layouts". Even if I change table.html.erb to table.erb, I see the same message - the ActionView code is checking both but not finding either. Even if you're not familiar with cells, does anyone know what happens differently in daemon mode related to view paths? In this case, it appears that the plugin is not correctly registering the view path.

• AutoComplete and VS2010 Internal WebDevServer caching ?

  Ok this is a simple setup: DB has a view with personnel who have not been added to the system. The AutoComplete dynamically lists a numeric column field from the view. (Using Linq2SQL) (with autotracking off) Once this number is consumed - a refresh is done on the sqlserver's view. The Problem: This number still shows up in the Autocomplete UNTIL the VS WebDev Server is closed. Question: Why is the WebDev caching the data? I have tried turning off viewstate of the textbox, turned off caching on the autocompleteextender, to no avail. Any help please ...

• UIImageView in UITableCell gets a weird size

  Hi, I'm trying to place a UIImageView in a UITableViewCell. I create a special view called ProductView. In that view, I have several components, one of them being a UIImageView. I set this ProductView as content view of the UITableViewCell. Everything is drawn properly except the UIImageView. UIImageView gets scaled meaninglessly. It's height gets twice the height of the table cell size. I've spent hours trying to solve this problem. I've set the frame of UIImageView manually, I've called drawRect method of UIImage in UIImageView, neither of them worked. I'm thinking of replacing UITableView with a UIScrollView if I can't find a solution. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

• Stream classes ... design, pattern for creating views over streams

  A question regarding the design of stream classes - I need a pattern to create independent views over a single stream instance (in my case for reading). A view would be a consecutive part of the stream. The problem I have with the stream classes is that the state (reading or writing) is coupled with the underlying data/storage. So if I need to partition a stream into different segments (whether segments overlap or not doesn't matter), I cannot easily create views over the stream, the views would store start and end position. Because reading from a view - which would translate to reading from the underlying stream adjusted based on the start/end positions - would change the state of the underlying stream instance. So what I could do is take a read on a view instance, adjust the Position of the stream, read the chunks I need. But I cannot do that concurrently. Why is it designed in such a way, and what kind of pattern could I implement to create independet views over a single stream instance which would allow to read/write independently (and concurrently)?

  Hi, I'm trying to produce a master/detail datagrid view. I'm using object data providers. • Search resetting selection in tableview

  I've got an NSTableView bound to an NSArrayController via content and selection indexes. All great so far - content displayed, etc. Now an NSSearchField is bound to the array controller via filterPredicate and the property of the array content instances that's to be searched. Searching/filtering the table view works great; table view showing only matching entries. However, searching resets the selection on the NSTableView if the existing selection isn't in the search results. Worse, not only during the search but after ending the search there's no selection on the table view. The NSArrayController is set up to Avoid Empty Selection. Any hints on how to properly configure bindings in this scenario to really prevent an empty selection much appreciated!

• Setting Grouping in UITableView under UINavigationController

  In my UINavigationController app, my first view is a UITableView. I can't seem to find a way to set the property of this UITableView to 'grouped'. Since UITableView is dynamically generated I don't have the luxury of Interface Builder. Searched forums here and googled other places and closest I saw was to override either initWithStyle or initWithCoder as follows. (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewStyle)style { if (self = [super initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]) { } return self; } However this above function never gets called. when I overrided initWithCoder I could see it worked and I was able to change UITableView contents to grouped. But then title automatically became 'Root View Controller' and none of the cells were active anymore although they got grouped fine. That is while they looked active but if you click on them, those cells won't do anything. But I have seen apps which have their very first view being UITableView is grouped. So there must be a way to do it but I don't know how.

• WPF. How do I create many LIstViews with the same look.

  I've defined a listview in my recent project and realized that I will be using more listviews looking exactly the same and having the same solumns. Since I'm new to WPF am I curious of teh best way to do this. Is it to create a usercontrol? Use styles? I've tried to use styles but it didnt work the way I was hoping. I tried to set the "View" property using style, like this. <Style x:Key="ListViewStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ListView}"> <Setter Property="View"> <ListView.View> <GridView> But it didnt work so I'm asking for your opinion?! • SqlServer2008 + expensive union

  Hi al, we have 5 tables over which we should query with user search input throughout a stored procedure. We do a union of the similar data inside a view. Because of this the view can not be materialized. We are not able to change these 5 tables drastically (like creating a 6th table that contains the similar data of the 5 tables and reference that new one from the 5 tables). The query is rather expensive / slow what are our other options? It's allowed to think outside the box.   I have an activity, where the ListView holds customized linear layout elements for each row. • Visual Studio: How to override the default "Build Action" for certain extension types per project or solution?

  I'm serving my asp.net mvc views from many assemblies and copying views to the main application on post-build event. This works, however, I realized, that when I change something in view and just hit F5, changes are not included. What I have to do to see changes is to: save, build<- explicitly clicking, and then hit F5. However, it's pretty annoying solution. I discovered that setting Build action to "Embedded Resource" on view solves the problem as well, however other devs may not remember that they have to do this after adding every view to the solution. Is there a way to override the default build action for certain file extensions, such as: *.aspx, *.ascx in project or (better) in solution ? What I've found is an ability to add this setting globally, per machine, but I do not want to do that (link: http://blog.andreloker.de/post/2010/07/02/Visual-Studio-default-build-action-for-non-default-file-types.aspx) Any ideas ?

• Bitmap in ImageView is cropped off the screen

  I'm working on an Android application that needs to download an image and display it inside an image view. The Bitmap is passed to the main java file and added to the image view like this: comic = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.comic); comic.setImageBitmap(c.getImageBitmap()); This works, except that the left side of the image disappears off the screen. The ImageView is in a ScrollView and the scroll view maintains the correct size. This means that there is black space to the right in the ScrollView and the image is cut off to the left. The XML for the ImageView is this: <ScrollView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" Any idea why my image is being cut off? Thanks!

• Filtering foreign keys with AJAX in Django admin

  I have most of this figured out already. I have AJAX returning the region/state/province when a country is selected. The correct foreign key is saved to the database, however, when the record is viewed afterwards the selected state is not shown in the select nor are any states for the selected country. I understand why this is happening as, the admin view is not aware of the relation between the state and the country. So here is the question. Is there a hook in the admin view that will allow me to load the correct states for the country and set the selected attribute on the option in the select tag? Or how can I override the admin view for any forms that require the country and region/state/province set? I am using jQuery and Djando-1.1. Thanks

• System.Timers.Timer leaking due to "direct delegate roots"

  Apologies for the rather verbose and long-winded post, but this problem's been perplexing me for a few weeks now so I'm posting as much information as I can in order to get this resolved quickly. We have a WPF UserControl which is being loaded by a 3rd party app. The 3rd party app is a presentation application which loads and unloads controls on a schedule defined by an XML file which is downloaded from a server. Our control, when it is loaded into the application makes a web request to a web service and uses the data from the response to display some information. We're using an MVVM architecture for the control. The entry point of the control is a method that is implementing an interface exposed by the main app and this is where the control's configuration is set up. This is also where I set the DataContext of our control to our MainViewModel. The MainViewModel has two other view models as properties and the main UserControl has two child controls. Depending on the data received from the web service, the main UserControl decides which child control to display, e.g. if there is a HTTP error or the data received is not valid, then display child control A, otherwise display child control B. As you'd expect, these two child controls bind two separate view models each of which is a property of MainViewModel. Now child control B (which is displayed when the data is valid) has a RefreshService property/field. RefreshService is an object that is responsible for updating the model in a number of ways and contains 4 System.Timers.Timers; a _modelRefreshTimer a _viewRefreshTimer a _pageSwitchTimer a _retryFeedRetrievalOnErrorTimer (this is only enabled when something goes wrong with retrieving data). I should mention at this point that there are two types of data; the first changes every minute, the second changes every few hours. The controls' configuration decides which type we are using/displaying. If data is of the first type then we update the model quite frequently (every 30 seconds) using the _modelRefreshTimer's events. If the data is of the second type then we update the model after a longer interval. However, the view still needs to be refreshed every 30 seconds as stale data needs to be removed from the view (hence the _viewRefreshTimer). The control also paginates the data so we can see more than we can fit on the display area. This works by breaking the data up into Lists and switching the CurrentPage (which is a List) property of the view model to the right List. This is done by handling the _pageSwitchTimer's Elapsed event. Now the problem My problem is that the control, when removed from the visual tree doesn't dispose of it's timers. This was first noticed when we started getting an unusually high number of requests on the web server end very soon after deploying this control and found that requests were being made at least once a second! We found that the timers were living on and not stopping hours after the control had been removed from view and that the more timers there were the more requests piled up at the web server. My first solution was to implement IDisposable for the RefreshService and do some clean up when the control's UnLoaded event was fired. Within the RefreshServices Dispose method I've set Enabled to false for all the timers, then used the Stop() method on all of them. I've then called Dispose() too and set them to null. None of this worked. After some reading around I found that event handlers may hold references to Timers and prevent them from being disposed and collected. After some more reading and researching I found that the best way around this was to use the Weak Event Pattern. Using this blog and this blog I've managed to work around the shortcomings in the Weak Event pattern. However, none of this solves the problem. Timers are still not being disabled or stopped (let alone disposed) and web requests are continuing to build up. Mem Profiler tells me that "This type has N instances that are directly rooted by a delegate. This can indicate the delegate has not been properly removed" (where N is the number of instances). As far as I can tell though, all listeners of the Elapsed event for the timers are being removed during the cleanup so I can't understand why the timers continue to run. Thanks for reading. As soon as I try to redirect the page in the preRenderView method of the bean (just uncomment the code in the method), using handleNavigation() the bean is created again in the next view instead of using the allready created instance. • Cocoa: how to implement a custom NSView with an editable text area?

  What's the minimum implementation needed to make a custom NSView with an editable text area? I assume NSTextFieldCell can be used for this. I've succeeded in drawing the cell in the view (which is straightforward), but making it editable seems to require a more complicated coordination between the view and the cell. Is there sample code available somewhere? Update. I should have made clear that my longer-term goal is to have many more editable text areas on the same view. AFAIU it is better to use cells in that case as they are more light-weight than full-blown views. My updated question is: What's the minimum implementation needed to make a custom NSView with an editable text area using an appropriate NSCell?
