How to retrieve base class only (entity framework)?

Hi All, I've been scratching my head here for a while now... I have a Consumer class and a BillableConsumer class that inherits Consumer. They are both a part of the Consumers set. The problem is that this following query: Consumer consumer = (from c in _ctx.Consumers where c.ID = id select c).First(); returns a BillableConsumer instance! Just the same as this query: BillableConsumer bconsumer = (from c in _ctx.Consumers.OfType<BillableConsumer>() where c.ID = id select c).First(); How can I return an instance of just the base class? (these are separate tables in the data store).

Does the order of the columns in a SELECT statement make a difference?

This question was inspired by a previous question posted on SO, "Does the order of the WHERE clause make a differnece?". Would it improve a SELECT statement's performance if the the columns used in the WHERE section are placed at the begining of the SELECT statement? example: SELECT customer.id, transaction.id, transaction.efective_date, transaction.a, [...] FROM customer, transaction WHERE customer.id = transaction.id; I do know that limiting the list of columns to only the needed ones in a SELECT statement improves performance as opposed to using SELECT * because the current list is smaller.

I am trying to test a controller method with the following code: it "should set an approved_at date and email the campaign's client" do @campaign = Campaign.create(valid_attributes) post :approve, id: @campaign.id.to_s @campaign.reload @campaign.approved_at.should_not be(nil) end However, when I run this test, I get the following error: Failure/Error: @campaign.reload ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound: Couldn't find Campaign without an ID When I run the analagous lines in the rails console, the reload works and the value is set as I need it to be. Why isn't reload working for me when I run the code in an rspec test?

Mysql: Order Results by number of matching rows in Second Table.

Table A has following columns: id name description Table B has the following columns: id a_id(foreign key to Table A) ip_address date Basically Table B contains a row for each time a user views a row from Table A. My question is how do I sort Table A results, based on the number of matching rows in Table B. i.e SELECT * FROM TableA ORDER BY (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TableB where TableB.a_id = TableA.id) Thank you!

I have a problem, will explain how to reproduce the problem: 1- login into my page (sesion variables set as $_SESSION['logged'] = true and $_SESSION['id'] = 123 2-then inside the main menu I click logout option, code like this function logout() { session_start(); $_SESSION['id'] = null; $_SESSION['logged'] = null; unset($_SESSION); session_destroy(); require_once('Views/SessionExpiredView.php'); } 3- In the session expired view I display a link the login page, there session is null 4- I click back on the browser and click ok to resend information 5- session becomes again $_SESSION['logged'] = true and $_SESSION['id'] = 123 and I'm loggued again and able to see all the information related to the id 123 This is a security issue and I don't know what is happening!!! any suggestion will be deeply appreciated. How can I decrease time opening myisam table in an "union all" of the same table??

I have a myisam table with 2.5M rows, I use an union all to get my results as following: (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=1 LIMIT 10) UNION ALL (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=2 LIMIT 10) ... UNION ALL (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=25 LIMIT 10) the time to opening the table t is about 6ms. With a single request: SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=1 LIMIT 10 the time is about 1ms. What I don't understand is why mysql spend more time to the same table in union all. It should recognize that is the same table and so just opening at the first union. Does anybody can help me to decrease the time for opening table in a "union all"? Thanks in advance!

I have a php file with an xml header and xml code, named test.php. How do I load this file as an xml? The following doesn't work: $xml = simplexml_load_file('test.php'); echo $xml; I just get a white page. The test file is saved as php, as it's dynamic. It's loading data from the tradedoubler api. For example, if I have this select: SELECT city,state,country FROM table Now if city is empty AND state is empty, I want the value of country to returned empty as well (whether country actually has a value or not). Mysql select most frequent and sort alphabetically

I am trying to select the most common 100 names from a table then display the list showing the names and count. I want the user to be able to re-sort the list alphabetically rather than based on count. I thought the following code would do it. It works for the default sort by count but fails on the sort alphabetically. The line "$count = mysql_num_rows($table);" gives an error: mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given. I'm dynamically building a treeview given numerous stored procedures. the structure goes like this: OwnerRPColl.Search2() For Each root As OWNER_RP In OwnerRPColl Dim nd_Root As New TreeNode nd_Root = TreeView1.Nodes.Add(root.OWNER_RP_BUSNS_NAME) bldg.ID = root.ID bldgColl.Search(bldg.ID) For Each firstChild As BLDG In bldgColl Dim nd_lvl_One As New TreeNode With nd_lvl_One .Text = firstChild.BLDG_NAME_1 .Tag = firstChild.ID End With problem being is that I need to have labels for these.. meaning the first level of the treeview needs to say "users" when expanded displays users. Each of these users can have a building. The world building needs to be the example option, which then displays the building.. essentially I need a slick way to add the word in for the expanding level (instead of the value in the collection).
