• Ubuntu "Server" but with a better terminal?

  I'm currently using Ubuntu Server installed in VirtualBox for running various server services. The only drawback it posses for me is that I cannot use mouse in the terminal and select/copy/paste stuff. What would be an alternative in this situation to get a better terminal? I guess Ubuntu Server itself doesn't support mouse, so I'd have to go for Ubuntu Desktop, but it seems like a huge waste of resources to run Unity/Gnome3 in VirtualBox only to have a terminal. So then I'm wondering whether Xubuntu/Lubuntu would be suitable alternatives, although they still take a lot of time to boot up, etc. Any ideas how to solve this scenario?

• Backing up VPS and Database Servers for website

  I currently have an "un-managed" (no help from hosting company) windows vps server. I am working on a good backup solution to return my site back online within a few hours. I am pretty comfortable backing up and restoring my database, however what is a good solution for backing up my VPS for easy recovery? Should I just use windows backup and create an image? I'm open to suggestions. Additionally, has anyone had to restore an entire VPS before? Is it reasonable to have it back up and running in a few hours?

• Get Final output from UDK

  ( sorry for my bad english in advance :D ) I'm trying to get a .exe setup output, from my UDK !( with my own maps and scripts which I made within MyGame) I tried UnrealFrontEnd! But It made a setup , that after installation I can see my .udk maps, my packages and etc. But It's not a real output that I can show to my customers. I don't want, other can use my resources ! So... How can I get a binary-like output from UDK as a real Game-Output ? ( like what we see in all commercial games ) Is there any option in frontend that I missed ?

• Broadcom bcm4313 Ubuntu 13.10 connection time out

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 I keep getting connection timed out every few seconds at which point i have to disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi network. Whatever it may be, algorithms, pseudo code, actual code examples, strategies, or anything to assist with the design and implementation of Android joystick controls; I can't seem to find anything decent on the net. What are some well executed examples? More specifically, Pseudo Code Current Examples Idea/Design Functionality Description Controller Hints Related Directly to Android Architecture What kind of classes will I have making this? • What is the best certification for the self-taught ASP.Net programmer? [closed]

  I learned the C#.Net language from books and many other resources then i did some good projects with ASP.Net "Web Forms & MVC". But i wanna a good certificate to get a better work out of my country as i suppose. I've two choices: Apply for a " college / institute " and start study academic courses to be more professional and maybe in two years I'll "hopefully" graduate with this college certificate. Apply for kind of " Certifications by Companies " like MCTS from Microsoft or something like that and study their straightforward courses then maybe with three or four months I'll get this "Not official Certificate". Is the second type of certifications good for learning and work or the best is the hard way ?. Please give me advises with certifications names please. ======================= Update: This is not related to certain country or region. I'm asking about a good certification and courses for an ASP.Net and C# in general programmer.

• Getting wireless to work on Ubuntu 11.10 (on a mac machine)

  I have a 2008 white 13.3 inch macbook that now solely runs ubuntu. However, I cannot get wifi or cable to work on it. Regarding the cable, it atleast tries to connect but eventually disconnects from the wired network. Here is the output for lspci (pastebin) I tried installing b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43 but get errors. (I loaded them from a thumb drive and tried sudo dpkg -i). I cannot understand these instructions from the documentation, as I cannot locate the pool directory. b43-fwcutter is located on the Ubuntu install media under ../pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/ and patch is located under ../pool/main/p/patch/ or both in the official repositories online. Note: In some versions (10.04 and 11.04 at least) there is not a /pool/main/p/patch/ If this file is missing then you don't need it. In this case you only need to install /pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter by following the instructions below.

• Help comparing Cocos2d and Unity3d for this project [closed]

  I will not go into details, but I would like to hear your opinions about this: Essentially, my project will be a 2d game, with lots of complex levels, where some might be simple and others might be a bit more deep, with physics, etc. We want to implement our very own online structure: logging in, leaderboards, achievements, friends etc with our own servers. This means no OpenFeint nor GameCenter at all. We expect this game to be very large in both graphics and audio. We wish to use in-app purchases. Now, we considered two options. Cocos2d and Unity3d. We need help deciding using the factors I mentioned before (networking, good performance even for a large game in terms of graphics and audio like this, in-app purchases, etc) which option would fit better this? Technically, both options can create 2d games. I'd like to hear your opinion.

• Problems after upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04

  I upgraded to 12.04.1 from 10.04 recently and am running the Gnome Classic (no effects) desktop. I spent a couple of days tweaking the appearance and behaviour but there are two issues that I can't resolve. The mouse cursor frequently disappears, especially when scrolling through web pages or hovering over links/icons with tooltips. Moving the mouse brings the pointer back but it vanishes again almost immediately. Note I don't have unclutter or Parallels installed. The screen no longer fades to black when left idle for too long - it just cuts out. Bad news when watching content online. Any tips greatly appreciated. Cheers...

• Windows gets progressively slower over time, why doesn't Ubuntu?

  I, and many other previous Windows users notice that the computer seems to get progressively slower over time. I bought a leapfrog crammer only to find it installed process that sat there waiting for me to plug the crammer in so it could run the software. It took up three percent of the CPU twenty-four seven, seven day a week! This is one of the main reasons I left Windows. But, Ubuntu doesn't seem to slow down over time at all. Does Ubuntu allow programs to install background programs like the leapfrog crammer did to sit there like a leech and suck away at resources? Could someone explain why Windows tends to get slower over time, and is Ubuntu vulnrable to this too? Thanks for any help, this is puzzling me.

For each language, indicate the length in lines of the longest working program you have written in that language. You may approximate, but only count those parts of the program that you wrote yourself. I don't quite remember that, and I have never counted the lines of each program. Do programmers always know approximately how many lines in each of his programs, and keep record of them? What is the relation between " lines of the longest working program " in a language and familiarity with it? Typically, how many lines will indicate the programmer being excellent, good, fair, or unfamiliar with the language? Is knowing "lines of the longest working program" really helpful?

• choppy streaming audio

  I could use some help troubleshooting choppy streaming audio. The problem is jerky playback regardless of audio or video with audio. Both Chromium and Firefox have the problem, however files played directly on the machine with Rhythmbox sound just fine. I'm running 12.04 LTS on a C2D T9300.   I'm an experienced web developer in PHP, HTML, Javascript, MySQL, CSS and I'm running communities where people can register to be able to login and do some stuff. Now more and more people are requestion an App, I told them that I have no time and experience to develope Apps with many functions for such complex communities I am running, but then the users told me what would be enough for them and this sounds already simpler to me: An app to install on Android / iOS just to be able to login (+ autologin), so they appear always online in the community when they have internet connection. Then only 1 function like a counter of new activities regarding their user account (new messages, new replies, etc..), and if they click on the app then a browser window will open to read the info at the main website. So, what you think, it will be a big thing to develope such an app for the members? Is there a big diffrence between developing for Android and iOS? How to test the App if you don't have an Android or iOS phone in example?

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 64Bit. How to disable ubuntu enter password for keyring default to unlock prompt ? Every time I open Chrome or ubuntu software center, this annoying window jump out. I have being searching online for a long time, most of the answers are like delete ~/.gnome2/keyring XX , but I don't have such directory or go to password and keys , disable some option, but this window is empty in my case, very strange , even I add a new password keyring, it is still empty. • Ubuntu 12.04 upgrade (from 11.10) removed all packages installed

  I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 using bootable USB. After upgrade, all non-default packages from 11.10 are gone. For ex, I did not have Chromium, Eclipse etc. Although, I could see these in the History in the "Ubuntu Software Center". Is there any way I can retrieve all these packages (even reverting back to 11.10 is also fine with me)? What could be a possible reason for this (We plan to upgrade a few more machines)?   For some reason YouTube videos in my website do not get the fullscreen button, even if I added the parameter allowFullScreen set to true both in the object and embed tag. Shutting down our branded domain isn't an option, we've already got too much invested in that brand (not in terms of SEO but in terms of other marketing efforts). • How do I create a big multiplayer world in UDK?

  I want to create a big multiplayer world in UDK and I'm having a few difficulties. I created the biggest terrain possible but then any terrain related action I do takes forever. However, I've seen videos of people make same size terrain and working without a problem. My pc is strong enough, so maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I want to make it even bigger then the biggest terrain size, so I was thinking of doing level streaming but then I read that streaming is working server side which means if I have a player on every terrain all terrains will still be loaded and I want to save as much memory possible so it will work well online.
