    I really do like the Grid plugin in Compiz, but at work I cannot use Compiz on my workstation (Fedora 12). Is there anything similar for plain X or Metacity? The Grid-plugin gives you a few keyboard shortcuts for tiling active window. For example Ctrl+Alt+Numpad_4 would tile window to half screen.

  • How do I use a theme for my lockscreen?

    I have the "autumn colors in japan" theme and would like the lockscreen to use the same backgrounds. Specifically - what I want to do is make my lock screen use the same background as the theme I chose through Control Panel - Appearance and Personalization - Personalization. Currently it's set to Autumn Color in Japan. Do I have to locate the images and set them manually or is there a way to get the lockscreen to use the background I have for the desktop, set by my theme?

    have a dell vostro 1520, installed an external usb keyboard which works fine but the laptop's keyboard does not work properly. in the log in screen everything works as it should, once logged in the keyboard breaks. keys that have an alternate symbol accessible with the FN key render it by default. Meaning i have to press the FN key for it to render the proper ones- p has the * as FN, in order to get the p i have to press p+FN.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2: User account set to not show on login

    Hello There, this is my first Serverfault Question: I found myself this afternoon Setting up a Win Server 2008 R2 system for use with Team foundation source code control, and in order to give team-mates right to connect, i had to create user account for each of them (10 persons) (I can't and I don't want to create a domain). The point is that, after that, all that user accounts are showing in the login screen. Can i set those accounts to not show there? How? Thanks in advance

Ideally the user would have a USB key and just plug it into the machine and boot via it establishing an RDP connection to their virtualised enviroment (stored on a server).     I'm logged in to a Windows 7 machine from a Windows 7 desktop, using the standard Remote Desktop client. Is there a key short cut to maximise a window within the remote desktop session (equivalent to Windows+up arrow)? I want the remote desktop session to NOT be full screen on my client machine, but to easily maximise windows on the remote session to the full size of the remote desktop window. Part of it's use is to run a screensaver that itself shows useful information. There are some scheduled tasks which need to display information to the screen, however as the screensaver is running these messages can't be seen until the screensaver it manually deactivated. How can the currently running screensaver in Windows be deactivated from command script?

    I know of terminating a command with & and then moving it into the background by pressing Ctrl-Z and then bg [pid], and I also know of nohup. But say you started a process that turned out to take much longer than one expected, is there a way of pulling, so to speak, this process from another terminal screen into the background so that even if I log off from the server the process would continue?

  • How to prevent windows from being resized?

    Adobe Audition is really stupid in that when you change the size of the window, and then change it back to the original size, all the frame positions are lost and you have to tediously reposition them by hand. I'd like to make it completely impossible to ever resize the window, just keep it maximized at all times. If I accidentally click "Restore" or drag the title bar, it should either ignore it, or move around the screen while staying the same size. Is there any way to do this?

    I've just bought IBM T61 laptop and it has non-orginal battery. Everything was ok (laptop worked without being plugged), but something has changed, and now battery isn't charged. Power Manager says: "This system may not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo-made or authorized. This sytem will contunue to boot, but may not charge unauthorized batteries" (screen: http://i52.tinypic.com/2ywhdns.png) I have no idea, what to do, how to solve this problem. Thank's for help.
