• Why do I have untrusted certificates for Google, Yahoo, Mozilla and others?

  In the HTTPS/SSL section of chrome://chrome/settings, I see the following: What does this mean, and is there something wrong? I have a basic understanding of SSL/TLS - I'm not claiming to be completely familiar, but I'm fairly confident I know my way around it - but I don't understand why I have certificates installed on my machine specifically for these sites. From my understanding, I should have the certificates for Certificate Authorities, and any site I visit and use SSL/TLS should have a certificate signed by one of these trusted CAs for me to trust the site. My worry is that if someone has maliciously installed a certificate for these sites on my machine, they could perform a DNS spoofing attack (or a number of other attacks) to hijack my connection to my email account without me knowing, and as they've got the private counterpart to the certificate on my machine, decrypt the communication. NB: I'm also aware that CA certificates aren't just within Chromium and are used system wide as part of libssl - they're stored in /etc/ssl/certs. What I'd like to know is: Is this correct? - The big red boxes make me think no Is this malicious or benign? What can I do to resolve this problem? (If indeed it is a problem) Thanks :)

• SSL setup: UCC or wildcard certificates?

  I've scoured the web for a clear and concise answer to my SSL question, but to no avail. So here goes: I have a web-service requiring SSL support for authentication pages. The root-level domain does not have the "www" - i.e., secure://domain.com - but localized pages use "language-code.domain.com", i.e. secure://ja.domain.com So I need at least a wildcard SSL certificate that supports secure://*.domain.com However, we also have a public sandbox environment at sandbox.domain.com, which we also need to support under localized domains - so secure://ja.sandbox.domain.com needs to also work. The previous admin managed to purchase a wildcard SSL certificate for .domain.com, but with a Subject Alternative Name for "domain.com". So, I'm thinking of trying to get a wildcard certificate with SANs defined as "domain.com" and ".*.domain.com". But now I'm getting confused because there seem to be separate SAN certificates, also called UCC certificates. Can someone clarify whether it's possible to get a wildcard certificate with additional SAN fields, and ultimately what the best way is to support: secure://domain.com secure://.domain.com secure://.*.domain.com with the fewest (and cheapest!) number of SSL certificates? Basically, we're designing an Online Store and I am designing the class structure for ordering a product and want some clarification on what I have so far: So a customer comes, selects their product, chooses the quantity and selects 'Purchase' (I am using the Facade Pattern - So subsystems execute when this action is performed). My class structure: < Order > < Product > <Customer > There is no inheritance, more Association < Order has < Product , < Customer has < Order . Does this structure look ok? I've noticed that I don't handle the "Quantity" separately, I was just going to add this into the "Product" class, but, do you think it should be a class of it's own? Hope someone can help.

• How does flash store (represent) movieclips and sprites?

  When we draw any object in flash and convert it into a movieclip or a sprite, how is it stored or represented in flash. I know in vector art it is stored or represented as line segments using formulae. Is there any way to get the vertices of the shape that was drawn? For example, lets say a simple rectangle is drawn and is converted to a movieclip. Is there anyway to obtain the vertices and the line segments from the sprite? So that its shape is obtained. Enough information should be obtained so that the shape can be replicated. That's the key - replication. In simple terms, where does flash store information about a shape that has been drawn so that we can obtain it and attempt to replicate the shape ourselves?

  So I'm thinking about making a small rpg, mainly to test out different design patterns I've been learning about. But the one question that I'm not too sure on how to approach is how to store an array of character moves in the best way possible. So let's say I have arrays of different sprites. This is how I'm thinking about implementing it: array attack = new array (10); array attack2 = new array(5); (loop) //blit some image attack.push(imageInstance); (end loop) Now every time I want the animation I call on attack or attack2; is there a better structure? The problem with this is let's say there are 100 different attacks, and a player can have up to 10 attacks equipped. So how do I tell which attack the user has; should I use a hash map?

• Changes to File Store Provider in UCM PS3

  In the recent PS3 release of UCM (11.1.1.4.0) there are some significant changes to the File Store Provider (FSP) configuration. For new PS3 installs (not upgrades from PS2) the FSP default storage rule includes a dispersion rule that will change the web-layout and vault paths by adding dispersion directories to the paths to limit the number of files in the vault and web-layout directories. What that means is that if you install a new PS3 UCM instance and migrate content in from a previous version of UCM the web URL will change. That is a critical problem for web sites and just general document management. • Keystore and Credential Store interplay in OWSM - 11g

  One of the most common problems faced by customer's is the use of the keystore and it's interplay with the credential store.Here is a picture that describes these relationships.(Click on the picture for a larger image). The picture makes some assumptions in describing the relationship. Some of assumptions are: a) the key used for signing and encryption are the same. b) A keystore can have multiple keys and each key can have it's own alias. In the picture I show only a single key with alias "orakey". c) The keystore being described here is a JKS keystore. Things can vary slightly for other type of keystores. I hope to have a detailed How To that provides the larger picture and then shows these relationships in that context and this picture was created in the context of that How-To. MySymbol_design or assets.MySymbol_design), do not change the base class (ie. flash.display.MovieClip). Right now, I am stuck at that part. Any hints? What I wish to do is: Use fla for the artist to store assets. Publish to swc Extract the assets in FlashDevelop by creating an instance of their class. ... How is this done in CS6? • Can Subject Alternative Name accommodate multiple virtual mail domains?

  I am currently running a postfix server with self signed certificates serving one mail domain, mycompany.com, the mail server is mail.mycompany.com and so is the CN of the certificate. Now, I need to add a new domain to it. The new domain name is mycompany.net to the same server. Since the users already have the root of the old certificate, I'd like to reuse that. However, I'd like to issue a new certificate so users using the SMTP from Outlook/Thunderbird of mail.mycompany.net do not get warnings. If I understand correctly, if I issue a new certificate with CN=mail.mycompany.com and a subjectAltName=DNS:mail.mydomain.net and have postfix serve this, the client will not complain either way about the cn not matching the target host name. Am I correct in this assumption or am I misunderstanding the concept of Subject Alternative Name? Just to avoid conversation, I do not want to have users on mycompany.net addresses use the mycompany.com server because I might (not a technical issue) have to split up into two different locations, and I want to produce an easily migrateable setup.

• Setting up self signed cert and CA [plesk / linux]

  I'm about ready to give up and do a clean wipe of this machine and start over with ISPConfig or some other variant. I installed Plesk on this machine to help with some of the handiwork. It is the free version (single domain); I don't need it for much. It's nice, though, to use to set up db's email, etc. Anyway, I would like to set it up as a CA (which I can add to users' trusted root servers to alleviate those warnings). It seems like Plesk does all it can to obfuscate where things are. Despite trying to find the conf files, and crt/pem/key etc. I am (5 hours later) now left with a machine that won't even get to the ssl page. The browser will sit there, until a 'connection reset' error comes up. In error_log, I get messages saying CN doesn't match server name -- which it does. ssl_error_log: [Thu May 13 16:02:14 2010] [warn] RSA server certificate is a CA certificate (BasicConstraints: CA == TRUE !?) [Thu May 13 16:12:19 2010] [warn] RSA server certificate is a CA certificate (BasicConstraints: CA == TRUE !?) not very helpful. If anyone has any experience, and/or recommendations (including other software), I'd be much obliged. NB RHEL5; 1 domain, 3 subdomains; everything local only. Thanks.

  I am registering as a Developer to sell paid applications on the Google Play store and have run into a slight issue: After I paid, I clicked on "Setup merchant details" link. I filled out the business address section, but in the "Public contact" section, Google says this: How can your customers get in touch with you? This information will be made available to your customers when they make a purchase. I work from home. I do not want customers knowing my home address, nor do I want it displayed anywhere online or even accessible by anyone. Should I just enter NA in each of the following fields? Surely Google understands that we have a right to keep such things private? How can I get around this while not getting my account suspended or risk not being approved?

  I have several iOS/iPhone apps that have been continually selling in small amounts in over 2 dozen different countries, even though the app UIs and all the store descriptions are only in English. In a few countries where English is not the official or native language, a few apps are selling far better than is proportionate for those country's population size compared with the U.S. So why Internationalize apps? What kind of increase, if any, in sales might a typical app see if it is Internationalized into given local languages? Which major languages might be likely to see the greatest improvement in app sales or downloads due to a localized app description?

• apache2 server running ruby on rails application has go daddy cert that works in chrome/firefox and ie 9 but not ie 8

  I have a rails application up on a linode ubuntu 11 server, running apache2. I have a cert purchased from godaddy, (where we also bought our domain) and the cert is installed on my server. Part of my virtual host file: ServerName my_site.com ServerAlias www.my_site.com SSLEngine On SSLCertificateFile /path/my_site.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/my_site.com.key SSLCertificateChainFile /path/gd_bundle.crt The cert works fine in Chrome, FireFox and IE 9+ but in IE 8- I get this error: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address. I'm hosting multiple rails apps on this same server (4 right now plus some old php sites that don't need ssl). I have tried googling every possible combination of the error/situation that I could think of but at this point I'm shooting in the dark. The closest I could come up with is that some versions if IE don't support SNI. But that doesn't apply here because I am getting the warning on windows 7 machines running IE 8, and the SNI only seemed to apply to IE 8 if the operating system was windows XP. So why is this cert being accepted by all browsers but giving me a warning in IE 8? Edit: So doing a little more digging and I figured out some more. It turns out this is effecting IE 9 as well. However the problem seems to be that IE is not traversing the ssl chain to get to the right cert. FireFox and Chrome when I go to view certificate show the correct one, but IE is showing one of our other sites certificates. REAL QUESTION HERE: That being the case why is IE not getting the right certificate when others are and how do I fix it?

• Why can't I see all of the client certificates available when I visit my web site locally on Windows 7 IIS 7?

  My team has recently moved to Windows 7 for our developer machines. We are attempting to configure IIS for application testing. Our application requires SSL and client certificates in order to authenticate. What I've done: I have configured IIS to require SSL and require (and tried accept) certificates under SSL Settings. I have created the https binding and set it to the proper server certificate. I've installed all the root and intermediate chain certificates for the soft certificates properly in current user and local machine stores. The problem When I browse to the web site, the SSL connection is established and I am prompted to choose a certificate. The issue is that the certificate is one that is created by my company that would be invalid for use in the application. I am not given the soft certificates that I have installed using MMC and IE. We are able to utilize the soft certs from our development machines to our Windows 2008 servers that host the application. What I did: I have attempted to copy the Root CA to every folder location for the Current User and Location Machine account stores that the company certificate's root is in. My questions: Could I be mishandling the certs anywhere else? Could there be a local/group policy that could be blocking the other certs from use? What (if anything) should have to be done differently on Windows 7 from 2008 in regards to IIS? Thanks for your help.

• QuadTree: store only points, or regions?

  I am developing a quadtree to keep track of moving objects for collision detection. Each object has a bounding shape, let's say they are all circles. (It's a 2D top-down game) I am unsure whether to store only the position of each object, or the whole bounding shape. If working with points, insertion and subdivision is easy, because objects will never span multiple nodes. On the other hand, a proximity query for an object may miss collisions, because it won't take the objects' dimensions into account. How to calculate the query region when you only have points? If working with regions, how to handle an object that spans multiple nodes? Should it be inserted in the nearest parent node that completely contains it, even if this exceeds the node's capacity? • Over 2000 Windows 8 Store Apps

  With still a month left until Windows 8 is made commercially available, I was surprised to hear yesterday that there are already 16 million devices running Windows 8 (via @TommyLee).  I was also surprised to see that in Canada, there are already over 2000 apps available in the Windows Store.  This might not sound like much, but it is double the number of apps available less than a month ago.  These look like good signs for the Windows 8 ecosystem.  I am hoping to see the number of apps continue to grow quickly between now and official launch (and beyond).

• Design: How to model / where to store relational data between classes

  I'm trying to figure out the best design here, and I can see multiple approaches, but none that seems "right." There are three relevant classes here: Base, TradingPost, and Resource. Each Base has a TradingPost which can offer various Resources depending on the Base's tech level. Where is the right place to store the minimum tech level a base must possess to offer any given resource? A database seems like overkill. Putting it in each subclass of Resource seems wrong--that's not an intrinsic property of the Resource. Do I have a mediating class, and if so, how does it work? It's important that I not be duplicating code; that I have one place where I set the required tech level for a given item. Essentially, where does this data belong? P.S. Feel free to change the title; I struggled to come up with one that fits.

  I have the need to store random contents (on my local hard drive/ laptop hard drive) for personal use so I can look these contents up later on when I need them. What I mean by random content is one of the following: Some sort of code Random fact Css / html / Javascript tips Or anything I might find interesting and want to keep for future reference I want to look up these entries by tags, the software should give me the ability to associate every entry with one tag or more. I have been having difficult time find applications offer this functionality, it is like a local database with search ability and easy data-entry methods. I can build one, but I don't have the time to invest in doing so. Can you refer me to any application/software that can do that, it would be great. It does not matter if it is paid or free.
