  • Usability: Do mac users understand "right-click"?

    - by Stefan Kendall
I have a feature of my application which depends on alternate-click. Windows users don't understand "alternate-click" though, and I was wondering if most mac users understood "right-click", and if so if they were offended or annoyed when they see such text. Does anyone have experience developing usable (consumer) applications for mac users? Does anyone have any opinions on this?

  • ant compile problem

    - by senzacionale
    If I start ant compile in JDeveloper all classes are compiled successfully and copied to the classes folder. But if I run ant compile from console then no classes are copied to the classes folder. Does anyone know why? Maybe the problem is with: build.compiler=oracle.ojc.ant.taskdefs.OjcAdapter? build.properties: javac.debug=on oracle.home=C:/Oracle/jdevstudio10133 build.compiler=oracle.ojc.ant.taskdefs.OjcAdapter output.dir=classes javac.deprecation=on javac.nowarn=off package.name=KIS dest.dir=C:/Projekti/Projekt ANT/CVS src.dir=src view.dir=View model.dir=Model modelirc2000.dir=ModelIRC2000 build.xml for compile <target name="compile" description="Compile Java source files" depends="init"> <javac destdir="${dest.dir}/${package.name}/${model.dir}/${output.dir}" classpathref="classpath" debug="${javac.debug}" nowarn="${javac.nowarn}" deprecation="${javac.deprecation}" encoding="Cp1250" source="1.5" target="1.5"> <src path="${dest.dir}/${package.name}/${model.dir}/${src.dir}"/> <exclude name="irc/kis/model/dm/entity/common/ZnanjeImplMsgBundle.java/"/> <exclude name="META-INF/"/> <exclude name="irc/kis/view/"/> <exclude name="irc/kis/model/zap/view/vp/"/> </javac> </target> <target name="copy" description="Copy files to output directory" depends="init"> <patternset id="copy.patterns"> <include name="**/*.gif"/> <include name="**/*.jpg"/> <include name="**/*.jpeg"/> <include name="**/*.png"/> <include name="**/*.properties"/> <include name="**/*.xml"/> <include name="**/*-apf.xml"/> <include name="**/*.ejx"/> <include name="**/*.xcfg"/> <include name="**/*.cpx"/> <include name="**/*.dcx"/> <include name="**/*.wsdl"/> <include name="**/*.ini"/> <include name="**/*.tld"/> <include name="**/*.tag"/> <include name="**/*.jpx"/> </patternset> <copy todir="${dest.dir}/${package.name}/${model.dir}/${output.dir}"> <fileset dir="${dest.dir}/${package.name}/${model.dir}/${src.dir}"> <patternset refid="copy.patterns"/> </fileset> </copy> </target>

  • Eclipse Plugin project with other project dependencies

    - by James
I have an Eclipse plugin project, and it depends on other projects that I have in my Eclipse workspace. After adding the project dependencies under "Java Build Path" - "Projects" tab, and also selecting the project in the "Order and Export" I get a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. I'm assuming that the other projects have not been properly included into the plugin. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks, James

  • Rpmbuild - setting name of created .rpm

    - by sync
Hi I've been trying to find out what's the easiest way to set a fixed filename during rpm creation. Can it be set somewhere in .spec file or as rpmbuild parameter? The default name depends on version and release number. Name of my rpm has to be always the same. thanks sync

  • Obfuscating multiple related .NET assemblies with babel obfuscator

    - by Román
Hi I have two assemblies, A and B, where A depends on B. I'm trying to obfuscate both of them together, i.e. in a way it doesn't break the app with the babel obfuscator. Is there a way to do that? Apparently this obfuscator doesn't handle multiple assemblies. If that's an issue, which other .NET obfuscator- that handles multiple assemblies- would you recommend?

  • Differnce between linux write and sendfile syscall

    - by JosiP
Hi Im programming webserver (C), which should send big files. My question is: What are the main differneces in two syscalls: write and sendfile. Does sendfile depends on size of socket system buffer ? I noticed that write often writes less then i requested. For example, if got many requests for one file: should i open it, copy into memory and use 'write', or maybe i can do 'sendfile' for each client ? thx in advance for all answers

  • CMake add_custom_command not being run

    - by Jonathan Sternberg
I'm trying to use add_custom_command to generate a file during the build. The command never seemed to be run, so I made this test file. cmake_minimum_required( VERSION 2.6 ) add_custom_command( OUTPUT hello.txt COMMAND touch hello.txt DEPENDS hello.txt ) I tried running: cmake . make And hello.txt was not generated. What have I done wrong?

  • glib on Symbian S60

    - by PulpFiction
Hello, I am interested in porting a C library that depends on glib to Symbian. After some research, I found that there is a Symbian port of glib. However I can't seem to find much documentation about it. Can anyone point me to the right direction as to whether this can be even done or not? If yes, how.

  • setup.py adding options (aka setup.py --enable-feature )

    - by pygabriel
I'm looking for a way to include some feature in a python (extension) module in installation phase. In a practical manner: I have a python library that has 2 implementations of the same function, one internal (slow) and one that depends from an external library (fast, in C). I want that this library is optional and can be activated at compile/install time using a flag like: python setup.py install # (it doesn't include the fast library) python setup.py --enable-fast install I have to use Distutils, however all solution are well accepted!

  • Is the design notion of layers contrived?

    - by Bruce
Hi all I'm reading through Eric Evans' awesome work, Domain-Driven Design. However, I can't help feeling that the 'layers' model is contrived. To expand on that statement, it seems as if it tries to shoe-horn various concepts into a specific, neat model, that of layers talking to each other. It seems to me that the layers model is too simplified to actually capture the way that (good) software works. To expand further: Evans says: "Partition a complex program into layers. Develop a design within each layer that is cohesive and that depends only on the layers below. Follow standard architectural patterns to provide loose coupling to the layers above." Maybe I'm misunderstanding what 'depends' means, but as far as I can see, it can either mean a) Class X (in the UI for example) has a reference to a concrete class Y (in the main application) or b) Class X has a reference to a class Y-ish object providing class Y-ish services (ie a reference held as an interface). If it means (a), then this is clearly a bad thing, since it defeats re-using the UI as a front-end to some other application that provides Y-ish functionality. But if it means (b), then how is the UI any more dependent on the application, than the application is dependent on the UI? Both are decoupled from each other as much as they can be while still talking to each other. Evans' layer model of dependencies going one way seems too neat. First, isn't it more accurate to say that each area of the design provides a module that is pretty much an island to itself, and that ideally all communication is through interfaces, in a contract-driven/responsibility-driven paradigm? (ie, the 'dependency only on lower layers' is contrived). Likewise with the domain layer talking to the database - the domain layer is as decoupled (through DAO etc) from the database as the database is from the domain layer. Neither is dependent on the other, both can be swapped out. Second, the idea of a conceptual straight line (as in from one layer to the next) is artificial - isn't there more a network of intercommunicating but separate modules, including external services, utility services and so on, branching off at different angles? Thanks all - hoping that your responses can clarify my understanding on this..

  • How do I avoid the loader lock?

    - by Mark0978
We have a managed app, that uses an assembly. That assembly uses some unmanaged C++ code. The Managed C++ code is in a dll, that depends on several other dlls. All of those Dlls are loaded by this code. (We load all the dll's that ImageCore.dll depends on first, so we can tell which ones are missing, otherwise it would just show up as ImageCore.dll failed to load, and the log file would give no clues as to why). class Interop { private const int DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES = 1; private static log4net.ILog log = log4net.LogManager.GetLogger("Imagecore.NET"); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] private static extern IntPtr LoadLibraryEx(string fileName, IntPtr dummy, int flags); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] private static extern IntPtr FreeLibrary(IntPtr hModule); static private String[] libs = { "log4cplus.dll", "yaz.dll", "zlib1.dll", "libxml2.dll" }; public static void PreloadAssemblies() { for (int i=0; i < libs.Length; ++i) { String libname = libs[i]; IntPtr hModule = LoadLibraryEx(libname, IntPtr.Zero, DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES); if(hModule == IntPtr.Zero) { log.Error("Unable to pre-load '" + libname + "'"); throw new DllNotFoundException("Unable to pre-load '" + libname + "'"); } else { FreeLibrary(hModule); } } IntPtr h = LoadLibraryEx("ImageCore.dll", IntPtr.Zero, 0); if (h == IntPtr.Zero) { throw new DllNotFoundException("Unable to pre-load ImageCore.dll"); } } } And this code is called by public class ImageDoc : IDisposable { static ImageDoc() { ImageHawk.ImageCore.Utility.Interop.PreloadAssemblies(); } ... } Which is static constructor. As near as I can understand it, as soon as we attempt to use an ImageDoc object, the dll that contains that assembly is loaded and as part of that load, the static constructor is called which in turn causes several other DLLs to be loaded as well. What I'm trying to figure out, is how do we defer loading of those DLLs so that we don't run smack dab into this loader lock that is being kicked out because of the static constructor. I've pieced this much together by looking at: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsto/thread/dd192d7e-ce92-49ce-beef-3816c88e5a86 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa290048%28VS.71%29.aspx http://forums.devx.com/showthread.php?t=53529 http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/beforefieldinit.html But I just can't seem to find a way to get these external DLLs to load without it happening at the point the class is loading. I think I need to get these LoadLibrary calls out of the static constructor, but don't know how to get them called before they are needed (except for how it is done here). I would prefer to not have to put this kind of knowledge of the dlls into every app that uses this assembly. (And I'm not sure that would even fix the problem.... The strange thing is that the exception only appears to be happening while running within the debugger, not while running outside the debugger.

  • What's the use of Ant's extension-point if/unless attributes?

    - by Robert Menteer
When you define an extension-point in an Ant build file you can have it conditional by using the if or unless attribute. On a target the if/unless prevent it's tasks from being run. But an extension-point doesn't have any tasks to conditionally run, so what does the condition do? My thought (which proved to be incorrect in Ant 1.8.0) is it would prevent any tasks that extend the extension-point from being run. Here is an example build script showing the problem: <project name = "ext-test" default = "main"> <property name = "do.it" value = "false" /> <extension-point name = "init"/> <extension-point name = "doit" depends = "init" if = "${do.it}" /> <target name = "extend-init" extensionOf = "init"> <echo message = "Doing extend-init." /> </target> <target name = "extend-doit" extensionOf = "doit"> <echo message = "Do It! (${do.it})" /> </target> <target name = "main" depends = "doit"> <echo message = "Doing main." /> </target> </project> Using the command: ant -v Relults in: Apache Ant version 1.8.0 compiled on February 1 2010 Trying the default build file: build.xml Buildfile: /Users/bob/build.xml Detected Java version: 1.6 in: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home Detected OS: Mac OS X parsing buildfile /Users/bob/build.xml with URI = file:/Users/bob/build.xml Project base dir set to: /Users/bob parsing buildfile jar:file:/Users/bob/Documents/Development/3P-Tools/apache-ant-1.8.0/lib/ant.jar!/org/apache/tools/ant/antlib.xml with URI = jar:file:/Users/bob/Documents/Development/3P-Tools/apache-ant-1.8.0/lib/ant.jar!/org/apache/tools/ant/antlib.xml from a zip file Build sequence for target(s) `main' is [extend-init, init, extend-doit, doit, main] Complete build sequence is [extend-init, init, extend-doit, doit, main, ] extend-init: [echo] Doing extend-init. init: extend-doit: [echo] Do It! (false) doit: Skipped because property 'false' not set. main: [echo] Doing main. BUILD SUCCESSFUL Total time: 0 seconds You will notice the target extend-doit is executed but the extention-point itself is skipped. Since an extention-point doesn't have any tasks exactly what has been skipped? Any targets that depend on the extention-point still get executed since a skipped target is a successful target. What is the value of the if/unless attributes on an extention-point?

However, I need its value must be available in a different class, MainView.m class where I have defined an equation that depends on the value of the slider. How can I do it?? Thanks, Miguel Bayona

  • Thread safety in Singleton

    - by Robert
I understand that double locking in Java is broken, so what are the best ways to make Singletons Thread Safe in Java? The first thing that springs to my mind is: class Singleton{ private static Singleton instance; private Singleton(){} public static synchronized Singleton getInstance(){ if(instance == null) instance = new Singleton(); return instance; } } Does this work? if so, is it the best way (I guess that depends on circumstances, so stating when a particular technique is best, would be useful)

Lets say project A depends on projects B and C Ideally, I want to impose the following dependencies in my project file: Rebuild project A if either B or C has been rebuilt since last time project A was built Use the output for the relevant configuration (i.e. if building project A in debug mode, then use the debug versions of the libs for project B and C) Does anyone know how I may explicitly express such dependencies in my project file?

  • Ant: project dependencies in a flat project layout with ivy

    - by MH
Hello, I have two (Eclipse-) projects. Project A depends on project B, but the projects aren't nested i.e. project A is not a subproject of project B. Apache Ivy is responsible for the dependency management. When I run the compile task in Project A, is there any way to trigger the compile task (in project B) automatically (for example if the jar file of project B doesn't exist)? Thanks a million in advance.
