• Meet Windows Azure Sweden &amp; SWAG Sommeravslutning

• Plugging two external screens to laptop via VGA and HDMI

  I have an Asus U30JC laptop with a VGA and HDMI ports. I can connect my external screen (1920x1200) to either of those ports but I wonder if I would be able to use two screens at the same time, one plugged to the VGA and the other to the HDMI socket. Any ideas? Where should I find out? Doing xrandr, I get: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 293mm x 164mm 1366x768 60.0*+ 1360x768 59.8 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

• I can't get my PC to start up by a normal way.

  I couldn't write a more accurate title. I am just unable to start the computer by pressing the Power On button. I checked the Power Supply and it seems to give good voltage values in every pin. And this is not a BIOS malfunction because of bad overclocking or anything that may come to your mind. And I will tell you why. It happens that EPS (or any ATX-based) power supply has the ability to be powered-on by the Motherboard by jumping the 13th pin of the 24-pin-ATX-connector to COM/GND. I did it, after pushing the power on button (without any visual response) and, pwhaa! The machine turned on. I was able to read (and even write, if I wanted) BIOS values and then start any OS installed. Machine starts, so it's not any kind of misconfiguration. It seems some hardware related. I am able to power the machine on only if I already pushed the power on button. Though pushing it without jumping the 13th pin to ground for a second does not power the machine. Of course, jumping the pin without pushing the power on button does not tell the motherboard anything, so the computer would not start up either. It's as if the logic that connects the power button with the 13th pin derivation to GND was unable to be activated. What can be the issue? How can I solve it? My configuration is as follows: CPU: AMD Phenom 9850 X4 Black Edition MB: ASUS Formula II AM2 RAM: 2x2GB Corsair Dominator 5-5-5-15 2T @ 1066MHz DDR2 Tested also with only 1 module GPU: 2x XFX nVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT XxX Alpha Dog Edition @ Core: 540Mhz [SLi] Power Supply: Xilence 700W (ATX 12V 2.3 / EPS 12V 2.92 compatible) PS: I know the machine is like 2 years old. I hardly use it now, but my parents do.

• Switching songs - MediaPlayer lags the game

  When the player encounters a boss in the game I'm working on, I want to have the music change. It seems simple enough with the MediaPlayer class to fade out the current song, switch to another, and then fade the new song in. However, at the point where the second song starts, the game freezes for a split second. The songs in question aren't particularly large either - the first song is 1.7mb and the second song is 3.1mb, both mp3 format. • Tracking first visit date in Google Analytics

  I want track a site's visitor retention using Google Analytics, to see if unregistered users are returning to it, within a time frame of 2+ months from now. This blog post seems to be on the right track, but I want to track unregistered users, so I don't have a "join date" or similar variable at my disposal. This other blog post suggests using all 5 GA custom variables, using the first variable slot on the first week, variable 2 on week 2, etc. This method will allow me to track 5 weeks of visitors. I want to track more than 5 weeks of visitors, so I was thinking on using two custom variables in GA: visitor's first visit date, and visitor's last visit date. How I can save the first visit date? Because if I save another value in the same slot the old value will be overwritten, and I don't know how reliable is to save that variable conditionally (reading the __utmv cookie to check whether the "first visit date" is set, if it isn't set I save the current date)

• Windows 8 Fails to install with corrupted graphics

  I am trying to install Windows 8 Pro Upgrade via the download method on an older PC (07-08). It is a Dell Dimension E521 but it has been upgraded with a 3.0 Ghz Dual Core AMD Processor, 120 GB SSD, and 4 GB of RAM. The Windows 8 upgrade assistant did not detect any issues or concerns with upgrading other than I don't have DVD software installed. The system install Windows 8 but on the first boot, corrupt graphics are present. Eventually, the monitor will go into sleep mode and then roll back to Windows 7 Pro X64 which runs fine. I wouldn't be upset over not being able to install Windows 8, but I already paid for the software since I thought there would be no issues upgrading. The Graphics card in the system is the Geforce 7300LE and it has the latest NVidia drivers for Windows 7 loaded. I saw this solution which is similar to my problem: Corrupt graphics during Windows 8 installation However, I have downloaded Windows 8 and I am not sure how to go about modifying the install that resides somewhere on the hard drive. • Lead/Manager vs Individual contributor which is better?

  Currently I am working in a company as a Manager (software dev). But I only have 6.8 yrs experience. I joined this company as a software engineer and got promoted to SSE, Lead and Manager. Some of my team members are having better experience than me, and I feel like I need to have more exposure/experience to take these roles. I feel like it is better to be an individual contributor learn many things for another couple of years and become a Principal Software Engineer, rather than involving in Management. Options I have: 1. Ask my current employer to make me an individual contributor? 2. Find a new company and join as an SSE to start over? 3. Find a new company for a lead position? Please advice.

• How can I make sound over hdmi in kubuntu work?

  I have used a hdmi cable to connect my lcd (which is connected with my speakers) with my nvida 275 gtx grafic card. I can not get the sound output to work. The hardware itself is working probably - I tested it under windows. Currently I am running Kubuntu 9.10 64 with Nvidia 190.53. The sound output worked fine before I installed the hdmi connection. • Important hardware components to avoid bottlenecks/improve speed on a laptop?

  Looking for a powerful general use (including web development) laptop running Windows. Price points seem to be all over the place. Many less powerful machines are priced much higher than machines with better specs. How does one navigate this market? Are there any unpublished/under-publicized specs/bottlenecks you look for? Understanding that hardware improves over time, is there an efficient ratio that can be used (or something similar, like Windows Experience Index?) which will indicate how powerful a system is? Thanks in advance! P.S. Here is an example from a laptop released on September 17, 2010. Can anyone pick apart these specs? Is there missing information you would be looking for? • Using components in the XNA Game State Management example?

  In the game state management example at the App Hub, they say that if you want to use components in the example you can extend the GameScreen to host other components inside itself. I'm having a very hard time trying to tie this up. I tried extending the GameScreen class by adding a public property of public List<DrawableGameCompnent> components { get; set; } and then add my components to that list when I initialize the current screen as well as looping over the components in the LoadContent, Update and Draw methods. However, this doesn't feel like the correct way to go - mainly because it doesn't work when I get to the implementation of my GameplayScreen. Any thoughts?

• Instantiate proper class based on some input

  I'm attempting to understand how "switch as a code smell" applies when the proper code path is determined by some observable piece of data. My Webapp object sets an internal "host" object based on the hostname of the current request. Each Host subclass corresponds to one possible hostname and application configuration: WwwHost, ApiHost, etc. What is an OOP way for a host subclass to accept responsibility for a specific hostname, and for Webapp to get an instance of the appropriate subclass? Currently, the hostname check and Host instantiation exists within the Webapp object. I could move the test into a static method within the Host subclasses, but I would still need to explicitly list those subclasses in Webapp unless I restructure further. It seems like any solution will require new subclasses to be added to some centralized list.

• How do I change the Google Chrome offline icon?

  I am using some offline apps for google chrome and because of this an application indicator pops un in the gnome panel. My problem is that this indicator uses the google chrome default system tray icon and I think it looks ugly with my current theme so I would basically like to change the icon. I can't find the icons that google chrome is using for this purpose but I have no problem finding the other icons used by google chrome and changing them, like the 24x24 or 22x22 icons that you see in the gnome application menu (which by default looks like the application indicator for google chrome). It doens't seem like Google Chrome is taking the icon from e.g /usr/share/icons/ and I can't change the icon by changing the icon theme in like gconf-editor Is there anyway to see the preferences (like you can do with launchers) of the application indicators in the gnome-panel and then locate the indicator icon or change it in another way?

  I need to add photo-blog to a site that I'm recently working on. It is very simple site so the blog doesn't have to be very sophisticated. What I need is: a CMS that allows me to create simple blog-like news with one (or more) images at the beginning and some description/comment below. Preferably, I would like to create something that works like sites like these two: http://www.photoblog.com/dreamie or http://www.photoblog.pl/mending/ it must be customizable. I want to integrate it's look as much as possible with current page: http://saviorforest.tk preferably, it should provide some mechanizm for uploading and storing images at the server. I thought about wordpress, but it seems to be a little bit too complicated for such simple task. Do you know any simple and easy in use CMS that would work here?

• Lubuntu 13.04 Resolution Issue du to ppa makson96

  I've installed Lubuntu 13.04 on my notebook. (It's the first time I use Lubuntu) I had graphical issue, apparently due to the graphic driver (ATI Radeon Xpress 1200) I followed this procedure to correct my problem : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy My graphical issue has been corrected but now it shows a low resolution (1024*768) and I can't change it. the xrandr result : xrandr: failed to get size of gamma output default Screen 0: minimum 1024x768, current 1027x768, maximum 1024x768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mmx0mm 1024x768 0.0* I've already read this topic but I don't really understand how things work there. • Tips for building an AI for a 2D racing game

  I have a school project to build an AI for a 2D racing game in which it will compete with several other AIs (no collision). We are given a black and white bitmap image of the racing track, we are allowed to choose basic stats for our car (handling, acceleration, max speed and brakes) after we receive the map. The AI connects to the game's server and gives to it several times a second numbers for the current acceleration and steering. The language I chose is C++, by the way. The questions are: What is the best strategy or algorithm (since I want to try and win)? I currently have in mind some ideas found on the net and one or two of my own, but I would like before I start to code that my perspective is one of the best. What good books are there on that matter? What sites should I refer to?

• Two VGA monitors on Lenovo IdeaCentre H520 Desktop

  I recently bought a Lenovo IdeaCentre H520 computer and two VGA LED monitors. This particular PC has a dedicated NVIDIA Geforce GT630 video card and an integrated Intel HD Graphics 2500 video card. Both cards have VGA out. The Geforce card also has a HDMI out. I have installed Windows 8 and I can't seem to use both cards. I have connected both monitors, one to the VGA out of the Geforce card and one to the VGA out of the integrated card. I looked through the BIOS options for Video and I can only select the dedicated one, the integrate one or the Auto option. This kinda sucks. I was wondering what kind of options I have available. I have a VGA female to DVI A male adaptor, I was wondering if it could work if I can hook it to a DVI A female to HDMI male adaptor and plug one monitor into the VGA out of the Geforce video card and the other through both adapters to the HDMI out. Any chance this could work? I was looking online for a VGA to HDMI live cable but it's kind of expensive.
