• How to create a Task Scheduler App.

  I have been task with (ha) creating an application that will allow the users to schedule a command line app we have with a parameter. So the command line app takes an xml and "runs it" So bottom line I either need to create a windows service or learn how to interact with the Task Scheduler service already running on the box (version 1 Xp /2003) At first I though it would be easy have a service run and when a job is submitted, calculate the time between now and run and set up a timer to wait that amount of time. This is better then checking every minute if it's time to run. Were I hit a wall is I relized I do not know how to communicate with a running windows service. Except maybe create a file with details and have the service with a file watcher to load the file and modify the schedule. So the underlying questions are how can I execute this psedo code from client serviceThatIsRunning.Add(Job) Or ineracting with the task schedule or creating .job files using c# 3.5

• Using Proguard for Android in Eclipse Problem

  I have taken a fresh install of Eclipse and all the latest Android tools and want to use Proguard on existing project, but for now I have created a new blank one. I have added a proguard.cfg file to my project added proguard.config=proguard.cfg to my default.properties Now when I try to export I get the following error [2010-12-12 10:36:35 - ApplicationTest] Proguard returned with error code 1. See console [2010-12-12 10:36:35 - ApplicationTest] 'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, [2010-12-12 10:36:35 - ApplicationTest] operable program or batch file. [2010-12-12 10:36:35 - ApplicationTest] '-jar' is not recognized as an internal or external command, [2010-12-12 10:36:35 - ApplicationTest] operable program or batch file. I know it means there is a filepath setup incorrectly, question is where the heck is as I have looked through the general properties and project properties and can't see any reference to proguard or obfuscation so am stuck on what to change Any help appreciated.

• Amazon EC2 EBS automatic backup one-liner works manually but not from cron

  I am trying to implement an automatic backup system for my EBS on Amazon AWS. When I run this command as ec2-user: /opt/aws/bin/ec2-create-snapshot --region us-east-1 -K /home/ec2-user/pk.pem -C /home/ec2-user/cert.pem -d "vol-******** snapshot" vol-******** everything works fine. But if I add this line into /etc/crontab and restart the crond service: 15 12 * * * ec2-user /opt/aws/bin/ec2-create-snapshot --region us-east-1 -K /home/ec2-user/pk.pem -C /home/ec2-user/cert.pem -d "vol-******** snapshot" vol-******** that doesn't work. I checked var/log/cron and there is this line, therefore the command gets executed: Dec 13 12:15:01 ip-10-204-111-94 CROND[4201]: (ec2-user) CMD (/opt/aws/bin/ec2-create-snapshot --region us-east-1 -K /home/ec2-user/pk.pem -C /home/ec2-user/cert.pem -d "vol-******** snapshot" vol-******** ) Can you please help me to troubleshoot the problem? I guess is some environment problem - maybe the lack of some variable. If that's the case I don't know what to do about it. Thanks.

• Setting up Django on an internal server (os.environ() not working as expected?)

  I'm trying to setup Django on an internal company server. (No external connection to the Internet.) Looking over the server setup documentation it appears that the "Running Django on a shared-hosting provider with Apache" method seems to be the most-likely to work in this situation. Here's the server information: Can't install mod_python no root access Server is SunOs 5.6 Python 2.5 Apache/2.0.46 I've installed Django (and flup) using the --prefix option (reading again I probably should've used --home, but at the moment it doesn't seem to matter) I've added the .htaccess file and mysite.fcgi file to my root web directory as mentioned here. When I run the mysite.fcgi script from the server I get my expected output (the correct site HTML output). But, it won't when trying to access it from a browser. It seems that it may be a problem with the PYTHONPATH setting since I'm using the prefix option. I've noticed that if I run mysite.fcgi from the command-line without setting the PYTHONPATH enviornment variable it throws the following error: prompt$ python2.5 mysite.fcgi ERROR: No module named flup Unable to load the flup package. In order to run django as a FastCGI application, you will need to get flup from http://www.saddi.com/software/flup/ If you've already installed flup, then make sure you have it in your PYTHONPATH. I've added sys.path.append(prefixpath) and os.environ['PYTHONPATH'] = prefixpath to mysite.fcgi, but if I set the enviornment variable to be empty on the command-line then run mysite.fcgi, I still get the above error. Here are some command-line results: >>> os.environ['PYTHONPATH'] = 'Null' >>> >>> os.system('echo $PYTHONPATH') Null >>> os.environ['PYTHONPATH'] = '/prefix/path' >>> >>> os.system('echo $PYTHONPATH') /prefix/path >>> exit() prompt$ echo $PYTHONPATH Null It looks like Python is setting the variable OK, but the variable is only applicable inside of the script. Flup appears to be distributed as an .egg file, and my guess is that the egg implementation doesn't take into account variables added by os.environ['key'] = value (?) at least when installing via the --prefix option. • Trouble with Powershell and running a complex commandline

  Hi, I've been trying to run the following command line from a Powershell build script we have; but keep running into issues & 'C:\Dev\Yadda\trunk\BuildScripts\U tilities\csmanage.exe' /create-deployme nt /name:yadddayaddyaddadev /label:yadddayaddyaddadev /package:https://yadddayaddyadda.blob.core.windows.net/mydeployments/20100426_202848_FamilyMoments.cspk g /config:C:\Dev\WalmartOne\trunk\yadddayaddyadda.CloudService\bin\Debug\ServiceCon figuration.cscfg /slot:Staging /hosted-service:yadddayaddyadda-dev" Note: the space in "Utilities" is intentional; trying to snif out a bug involving spaces in the executable path. I assure you, the path does exist with the space in it on my machine. What's the best way to call this command line from Powershell? I've tried Invoke-Expression, Diagnostic.Process::Start, &; each method coming up with some different type of error; usually that it could find the executable. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Hello, I set up a new webapp maven project and wanted to test it with jetty's maven plugin. So issuded in the console the command: mvn jetty:run After defining the pluginGroup in Maven's setting file I ran once again the command. Unfortunately, it failed because i was using one of the below mentioned versions of the plugin. The first has artifact id: maven-jetty-plugin and the 2nd:jetty-maven-plugin. Why there are 2 maven based plugins for achieving the same thing - running jetty? Why do they have to bring so much confusion? Or be so kind as to explain me the differences between them. Thank you.

  It seems that I have more trouble getting standard Unix things to run on Snow Leopard than any other platform--including Windows cygwin For the past couple of days, I've been trying to get ImageMagick to run on Snow Leopard.   I just downloaded Scrapy (web crawler) on Windows 32 and have just created a new project folder using the "scrapy-ctl.py startproject dmoz" command in dos. I then proceeded to created the first spider using the command: scrapy-ctl.py genspider myspider myspdier-domain.com but it did not work and returns the error: Error running: scrapy-ctl.py genspider, Cannot find project settings module in python path: scrapy_settings. I know I have the path set right (to python26/scripts), but I am having difficulty figuring out what the problem is. I am new to both scrapy and python so there is a good possibility that I have failled to do something important. Also, I have been using eclipse with the Pydev plugin to edit the code if that might cause some problems.

• Generating a reasonable ctags database for Boost

  I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and I ran the command: $ ctags -R --c++-kinds=+p --fields=+iaS --extra=+q -f ~/.vim/tags/stdlibcpp /usr/include/c++/4.2.4/ to generate a ctags database for the standard C++ library and STL ( libstdc++ ) on my system for use with the OmniCppComplete vim script. This gave me a very reasonable 4MB tags file which seems to work fairly well. However, when I ran the same command against the installed Boost headers: $ ctags -R --c++-kinds=+p --fields=+iaS --extra=+q -f ~/.vim/tags/boost /usr/include/boost/ I ended up with a 1.4 GB tags file! I haven't tried it yet, but that seems likes it's going to be too large to be useful. Is there a way to get a slimmer, more usable tags file for my installed Boost headers? Edit Just as a note, libstdc++ includes TR1, which has allot of Boost libs in it. So there must be something weird going on for libstdc++ to come out with a 4 MB tags file and Boost to end up with a 1.4 GB tags file.

• Android "gen" folder and SVN - bitter enemies.

  It seems that I accidentally checked in my "gen" folder from an Android project (this folder contains the R.java generated class). When I realized I did this I deleted it from SVN and tried to ignore it. Now I am now getting the error... "Could not add gen to the ignore list! Working copy 'C:\code\guru' locked. When I try to run a cleanup command I get this... Cleanup failed to process the following paths: -C:\code\guru 'C:\code\guru\gen' is not a working copy directory. When I try to run a resolve I get this... Working copy 'C:\code\guru' locked Please execute the 'Cleanup' command. We are currently on SVN 1.6 on the server.

• A simple Python deployment problem - a whole world of pain

  We have several Python 2.6 applications running on Linux. Some of them are Pylons web applications, others are simply long-running processes that we run from the command line using nohup. We're also using virtualenv, both in development and in production. What is the best way to deploy these applications to a production server? In development we simply get the source tree into any directory, set up a virtualenv and run - easy enough. We could do the same in production and perhaps that really is the most practical solution, but it just feels a bit wrong to run svn update in production. We've also tried fab, but it just never works first time. For every application something else goes wrong. It strikes me that the whole process is just too hard, given that what we're trying to achieve is fundamentally very simple. Here's what we want from a deployment process. We should be able to run one simple command to deploy an updated version of an application. (If the initial deployment involves a bit of extra complexity that's fine.) When we run this command it should copy certain files, either out of a Subversion repository or out of a local working copy, to a specified "environment" on the server, which probably means a different virtualenv. We have both staging and production version of the applications on the same server, so they need to somehow be kept separate. If it installs into site-packages, that's fine too, as long as it works. We have some configuration files on the server that should be preserved (ie. not overwritten or deleted by the deployment process). Some of these applications import modules from other applications, so they need to be able to reference each other as packages somehow. This is the part we've had the most trouble with! I don't care whether it works via relative imports, site-packages or whatever, as long as it works reliably in both development and production. Ideally the deployment process should automatically install external packages that our applications depend on (eg. psycopg2). That's really it! How hard can it be?

  I'm creating a certificate to use with an SslStream, and I've been doing it this way under XP: makecert -r -pe -n "CN=aName" -ss my -sr localmachine -sky exchange -sp "Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider" -sy 12 server.cer If I understand this correctly, this creates a certificate in server.cer, and creates a private key for it in my personal certificate store. Once I have done this, I can create a certificate object like this: X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile(certFile); I then use it with the SSLStream, and everything works fine. Now that I have switched to Windows 7, the private key seems to be disappearing every time I restart the machine. I run a command prompt as Administrator, and execute the same makecert command shown above. This succeeds and the SSL connection works correctly. If I restart the machine, the call to AuthenticateAsServer fails with the exception "The server mode SSL must use a certificate with the associated private key." Why is the private key disappearing? What do I need to do to make it stick around?

  I'm using mysql to create an hotel booking system, but i am struggling a little bit to calculate the final bill. I need a SELECT command to get data from several tables and make some calculations. Basically I just need to get the 'night cost' from a table called 'room_types'. Then, use DATEDIFF function to get the difference of days between the 'checkin' and 'checkout' columns in the table 'room_booking' and multiply the difference with the night cost and display the total. These are the tables I would be using: are room_booking, room_types, booking, and room. • Calling function from popover.

  Alright, so I made a popover from my main view and all that good stuff. But I want to have my popover call an action in my main view when a button within the popover is pressed. MainView *mainView = [[MainView alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainView" bundle:nil]; [mainView doStuff]; The "dostuff" function changes some elements within the view. For example, the color of the toolbar is supposed to be changed. I've put a print command and the print command executes. But for some reason, the toolbar won't change color. I've imported the header of MainView into the popover. I did an @class thingy for MainView in my popover. doStuff is declared in MainView's header. The IBOutlets are declared too, and connected. Any ideas?

  I want to trap a signal send from Script-A.sh to Script-B.sh so in Script-A.sh i use the command (Send SIGINT to Script-B.sh) kill -2 $PID_Script-B.sh And in Script-B.sh i catch the signal and call function Clean trap 'Clean' 2 It does not work, instead the Script-B.sh is killed right away without performing the Clean !! What i notice also is that if i want to send SIGINT from terminal to any script that traps it, a ctrl-c will be catched correctly, but not if i specify the signal via the command kill -2 $pid_of_script Any idea about the difference between the two method to send the SIGINT (ctrl-c VS kill -2 $pid_of_script), and how i can send a SIGINT from a script to another ? • Problems with VBScript - RegRead when running as a service

  I am working on a script that runs under a custom installation utility, which is running as a service. To get the current user name the script executes this command: str_Acct_Name_Val = "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Logon User Name" str_Acct_Name = RegRead(str_Acct_Name_Val) When I run the script from the command prompt, it can read that value just fine (under an administrator account). When the value is attempted to be read with service/local system privileges, the read fails. What is the problem here? EDIT: Some additional information. When running as a service calling the current user name returns "SYSTEM" and my guess is that HKCU doesn't "exist" under the view of the SYSTEM, since there is technically no current user. There is a user logged in at the time, but not in the scope of the running script. Maybe there is somewhere in HKLM I could find the currently logged on user?

• MissingSourceFile when I run "cucumber features"

  I had cucumber 0.6.1 working quite fine... but I ran the gem update cucumber command, and things went smoothly. Then when I decided to run the cucumber features command, I received this error: Using the default profile... no such file to load -- cucumber/webrat/element_locator (MissingSourceFile) /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in gem_original_require' /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:inpolyglot_original_require' So I tried a few things... I did a gem update on webrat, that didn't work. I removed all previous versions of cucumber by doing gem uninstall cucumber then selecting past versions. Same with webrat. No luck. What am I doing wrong?
