• System.Web.HttpException in asp.net mvc 2 on images and javascript files

  Hi I am getting the following errors reported by ELMAH on my asp.net mvc 2 site for javascript files, images etc. System.Web.HttpException: The remote host closed the connection I have done some research and it appears that the user/bot is clicking a link on the site before the page has fully loaded. Now this error never occurs on a controller action but always on a file that is on disk. e.g. /Content/CmsImages/logo.png /Content/CmsImages/MemberImages/Photo-001605.jpg /Content/jquery.tickertype.js So this means that all static files are being routed through the mvc pipeline. What options do I have?

• No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

  Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help. • Can you explain what's going on in this Ruby code?

  I'm trying to learn Ruby as well as Ruby on Rails right now. I'm following along with Learning Rails, 1st edition, but I'm having a hard time understanding some of the code. I generally do work in C, C++, or Java, so Ruby is a pretty big change for me. I'm currently stumped with the following block of code for a database migrator: def self.up create_table :entries do |t| t.string :name t.timestamps end end Where is the t variable coming from? What does it actually represent? Is it sort of like the 'i' in a for(i=0;i<5;i++) statement? Also, where is the :entries being defined at? (entries is the name of my controller, but how does this function know about that?)

• View Window Not Opening in Interface Builder

  When I double click the XIB file in Xcode, Interface Builder typically launches a few different windows, one of which is the View window. For some reason, however, the View window isn't opening for one of my XIB files. If I open any of the other XIB files, however, the View window does open. I'm not sure if there's a way to manually launch the View window (I looked through all of the menu items and couldn't find a way) or if I broke something in my XIB. Update: I created a connection from the app delegate to a navigation controller, which seemed to break something. When I cleared that connection, the View window came back.

• A PHP object server for business logic

  I wonder if such a thing is possible or even exist : In the MVC pattern, I would like to have the Model part to be persistant in memory, instead of reloading my instances at each execution. So I want only the Controller and View part to be executed. Is there any solution of server that would provide PHP objects (just like a Mysql server provides data records), and that keeps these objects in memory ? A problem would be also : how to have a constructed query to get objects ? Maybe PHP Linq ?

• How different protocols interact with eachother in Twisted

  The scenario I want two different protocols interact with each other is as below: A and B is two different protocols. First A will interact with the server and retrieve some values. Only after A finishes retrieving the values , B will start to interact with the server. Now my problem is that is there an elegant way to initial B when A retrieves the values. Currently I just initial B in A's data process function. But i don't think that this is an elegant way. What I mean an elegant way is that the initialization of B is done by a flow controller or something like that, but not another protocol. Is there an elegant way? such using defered or any other things. I'm just new to twisted, not knowing very much about defered.... Thank you very much!

• Updating Silverlight with data. JSON or WCF?

  We will be using custom Silverlight 4.0 controls on our ASP.NET MVC web page to display data from our database and was wondering what the most efficient method was? We will be having returned values of up to 100k records (of 2 properties per record). We have a test that uses the HTML Bridge from Javascript to Silverlight. First we perform a post request to a controller action in the MVC web app and return JSON. This JSON is then passed to the Silverlight where it is parsed and the UI updated. This seems to be rather slow, with the stored procedure (the select) taking about 3 seconds and the entire update in the browser about 10-15sec. Having a brief look on the net, it seems that WCF is another option, but not having used it, I wasn't sure of it's capability or suitability. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

• Best way to structure AJAX for a Zend Framework application

  Sorry, but there's a lot of outdated and just plain bad information for Zend Framework, since it has changed so much over the years and is so flexible. I thought of having an AJAX module service layer, with controllers and actions that interact with my model. Easy, but not very extensible and would violate DRY. If I change the logistics of some process I'll have to edit the AJAX controllers and the normal controllers. So ideally I would load the exact same actions for both javascript and non-javascript users. I have thought about maybe checking for $_POST['ajax'], if it is set I would load a different (json'y) view for the data. Was wondering how/a good way to do this (front controller plugin I imagine?) or if someone can point me to an UP TO DATE tutorial that describes a really good way for building a larger ajax application. thx

  It is very common in Rails for an objects_controller controller to have RESTful edit and destroy actions like so: def edit @object = Object.find(params[:id]) end def destroy @object = Object.find(params[:id]) @object.destroy redirect_to :back end With an associated view that provides edit and destroy links like so: <%= link_to "Edit the Object", edit_object_path(object) %> <%= link_to "Delete", object, :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :method => :delete %> And it is easy to blow this up. If I open two browser windows, A and B, destroy an object with the "Delete" link in browser A and then press the "Edit" link in browser B, the find() in the edit action throws an exception. Obviously there are several ways to deal with this in the edit action: catch the exception and recover gracefully use @object = find(:first, "conditions... etc. and test the @object before going further But seeing as this is such a common pattern, I would love to know how other folks deal with this situation.

  Hi, I have following View COntroller structure: ScrollViewController LandscapeViewController PortraitViewController Each with its own .nib The app starts in landscape mode where many landscape views are added to a scrollview. Each landscape view has its specific portrait view, so I have to assign like ID's to each of this views. Can you tell me, how I can load the specific portrait view for each landscape view when rotating the device? Do I have to make two scroll views? One for landscape, one for portrait? Or is it possible to just scroll through the landscape scrollview an load just one portrait view with the right content based on an ID? How could I implement that? The data comes from a property list. Thanks in advance!

Each UINavigationController manages a UIViewController, which may itself branch out into other UIViewControllers below it hierarchally. My question is, in a case in which a user, under one tab, has navigated to a UIViewController that hierarchally BELOW the main UIViewController managed by the UINavigationController, and then the user pushes a different tab, and then goes back to the original tab, HOW can I make it so that the user is presented with the main UIViewController managed by the UINavigation controller? and not the page where he left off?

  From PyPubSub: Pypubsub provides a simple way for your Python application to decouple its components: parts of your application can publish messages (with or without data) and other parts can subscribe/receive them. This allows message "senders" and message "listeners" to be unaware of each other: one doesn't need to import the other a sender doesn't need to know "who" gets the messages, what the listeners will do with the data, or even if any listener will get the message data. similarly, listeners don't need to worry about where messages come from. This is a great tool for implementing a Model-View-Controller architecture or any similar architecture that promotes decoupling of its components. There seem to be quite a few Python modules for publishing/subscribing floating around the web, from PyPubSub, to PyDispatcher to simple "home-cooked" classes. • Weird behavior of an ASP.NET MVC application - track of errors

  Before migrating from ASP.NET WebForms I had a very good way to monitor all my application errors in the Events Log (Administrative Tools). But now after moving to asp.net MVC, all I get is the same mistake occurring every minute (something about Site Master). I know it's not right, because there are other mistakes, but they are not displayed. I purposefully put in division by zero operation, and it didn't track it. I had to implement the OnException method of a controller, and send e-mails with error details which is very inconvenient. How can I solve this problem?

• MVC - Loading DLL programmactically

  I'm trying to implement a plugable architecture in asp.net MVC. I have based my modules on the following article - http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/2008/12/aspnet-mvc-plugins. I have a DLL that contains a simple controller, and a view. The view is an embedded resource within the DLL. The problem I'm having is, if I drop the DLL in the bin directory of my MVC application manually, then everything works perfectly i.e. the assembly loads correctly. But when I copy the DLL from a file upload input box (via a web form) into the bin directoy, I get an error (The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.) when trying to load the assembly. I use the same DLL, what could the problem be?

• CodeIgniter: json_decode array issues

  On my client side I'm sending an ajax request with jQuery in the following matter: $.post(script.php, { "var1":"something", "var2":"[1,2,3]" }, function(data) { }, "json"); On the server side, in the CodeIgniter's controller I'm receiving the values like so: $var1 = trim($this->input->post('var1')); $var2 = trim($this->input->post('var2')); My question is how do I convert the string in $var2 into a PHP array. I tried using json_decode($var2, true) but it returns a null since "[1,2,3]" is not a legal JSON string by itself. Also, if you believe there is a better way for me to read the values on the server-side please show me how. Thank you.

• Rails - Cant get http_accept_language gem to work in my rails project

  I'm internationalizing my app and I've installed the http_accept_language gem on my system I've placed config.gem 'http_accept_language' into my environment.rb file but every time I try to run this code in my controller request.user_preferred_languages it complains of no method error. There are no other instructions on the readme on github... am I missing something? EDIT - Problem solved. after a good nights sleep I came back and realised I hadnt restarted the server. I hate it when that happens.

• UINavigationController Push Crash in Distribution but not Release

  I have a UINavigationController that I will be pushing a new view onto from selection of a UITableView row. I have tested this feature in "Release" configuration and it works perfectly, however when I build for "Distribution" it crashes when trying to push the new view onto the stack. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { /* irrelevant code */ DetailsViewController *detailController = [[DetailsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailsViewController" bundle:nil]; detailController.name = tmpName; detailController.time = tmpTime; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailController animated:YES]; return nil; } An exception is thrown on the line where the controller is pushed onto the stack. I have verified that the detailController is not nil. Again, this only happens in my "Distribution" build of the code. Any ideas?

I need to save data in minutes but User have privilege to choose will his input be in minutes, days or hours. So i have to do if loop. I now how if loop works but i don't know how to wite it in grails. I was thinking something like this: n=1 if(params.type=Dani){ n= 3600 }else if(params.type=Sati) { n=60 } def minute=params.minute*n but how to call that choosen input "Dani"? I can't write Params.type=Dani. Does if loop go in controller in my case?

I dont want to call the Twitter API while the tests run. Is there any Mocking Framework wich can do such things?

• Can I bind multiple forms to a single model using the default model binder?

  I have a complex page with several forms on it. The page is divided into sections, and each section has a continue button on it. The page is bound to a pageViewModel, each section addresses a different set of properties on the model. The continue button makes an ajax call to the controller, and the model binder binds it appropriately to the appropriate sections of the model. The section is refreshed appropriately. Finally, I would like to have a save button at the bottom of the page that takes all the forms, and binds all of the forms to the model. The model, at this point has all of the properties filled out, and can be processed accordingly. Can I accomplish this by some ASP MVC magic?

  I'm having the following problem: I'm using Oracle ADF for the view and controller of my app. With OpenSessionInViewFilter, I intercept the request and open an Hibernate's Session, and it is closed as soon as the bean's method finishes. What I need is to keep the Session opened until the page is rendered, because in my JSP y use the lazy attributes of the object i load from the DB.   I have two NIB's ParentViewController.xib ChildViewController.xib ParentViewController.xib contains a UIView and a UIViewController. ChildViewController.xib contains a UIButton I want ChildViewController.xib to load in the ParentViewController.xib's UIView I have done the following: Created @property for UIView in ParentViewController Connected File's Owner to UIView in ParentViewController Set UIViewController in ParentViewController's NIB Name property to ChildViewController in Interface Builder Set ChildViewController view property to UIView in ParentViewController I was hoping this would load ChildViewController into my UIView in ParentViewController but no luck. I did get the following warning, which could be the culprit: 'View Controller (Child View)' has both its 'NIB Name' property set and its 'view' outlet connected. This configuration is not supported. I also have added additional code in ParentViewController's viewDidLoad(): - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; ChildViewController *childViewController = [[ChildViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"ChildViewController" bundle:nil]; childViewController.view = self.myView; } Any thoughts on why ChildViewController does not load in the UIView of ParentViewController?
