  • Static vs Non Static constructors

    - by Neil N
I can't think of any reasons why one is better than the other. Compare these two implementations: public class MyClass { public myClass(string fileName) { // some code... } } as opposed to: public class MyClass { private myClass(){} public static Create(string fileName) { // some code... } } There are some places in the .Net framework that use the static method to create instances. At first I was thinking, it registers it's instances to keep track of them, but regular constructors could do the same thing through the use of private static variables. What is the reasoning behind this style?

  • ASP.NET Forms automation/serialization/binding

    - by creo
I need to implement many forms in ASP.NET application (for IRS mostly). There are will be a lot of standard controls for each form (textboxes, dropdowns, checkboxes, radio). And business entity assigned to each. What's the best solution to automate this process? I need to: Have layout stored in DB (in XML). Layout must support several columns, tabbed interface Automatically bind business object values to the form Automatically read form values and write to business object Must support automatic validation Some basic workflows support would be good I used to work with TFS and saw how they implemented WorkItem templates (.wit files). In general this is all I need. But what framework did they build it on? How can I utilize this solution? I know about Dynamic Data only: http://www.asp.net/dynamicdata

  • How to Communicate between minifb and a GAE-Hosted Silverlight Client

    - by Nick Gotch
I have a minifb app (technically gminifb) running on Google App Engine with a bunch of handlers for processing all kinds of requests from a Silverlight client. What's the recommended approach for adding the FB GET variables, such as fb_sig, to the HTTP requests? I believe I can technically pass the session key and uid directly and get things to work but it seems there's probably a much better way to do this. I was reading about FBJS AJAX and I'm trying to figure out how I can use it to proxy the HTTP requests from the Silverlight client through it. Is this a good way to do it? And if so, how would I go about doing so? Any other recommendations would be appreciated too. Thanks,

  • passing self data into a recursive function

    - by user272689
I'm trying to set a function to do something like this def __binaryTreeInsert(self, toInsert, currentNode=getRoot(), parentNode=None): where current node starts as root, and then we change it to a different node in the method and recursivly call it again. However, i cannot get the 'currentNode=getRoot()' to work. If i try calling the funcion getRoot() (as above) it says im not giving it all the required variables, but if i try to call self.getRoot() it complains that self is an undefined variable. Is there a way i can do this without having to specify the root while calling this method?

  • Changing background image on accordion change - jQuery Ui

    - by Coughlin
I am using this code: $('.ui-accordion').bind('accordionchange', function(event, ui) { $(this).next().next().css({'background-image':'images/green-bg.jpg'}); //ui.newHeader // jQuery object, activated header //ui.oldHeader // jQuery object, previous header // ui.newContent // jQuery object, activated content // ui.oldContent // jQuery object, previous content }); To try to change the background image of the PREVIOUS header after it changes. I see that the jquery docs supply the object for oldHeader, but I am trying to change the CSS of that element. Any ideas how I would do that? So You go to the next one it goes green, then the current one is going to be red. Thanks, Ryan

  • Binding Navigation Property with Entity Framework

    - by JSmaga
Hi, I have another question about binding using C# and the entity framework. Here, I'm looking to bind a navigation property to a listbox or a listview. I saw on different posts that if I update the collection using code behind the list would not be notified because the collection does not handle notification (it's always the same problem anyway). People suggested to use an ObservableCollection for example, but, and here is my question, this comes down to basically duplicate the collection and hence, if I modify it, I'd have to handle in code-behind the fact that the change has also to be applied to the "original" navigation property right? If that's the case, I was thinking: why not create a custom property called, say, MyObservableNavigationProperty in a partial class. I could then interact only with this collection, catch the event when the collection is changed and apply the change to the "original" collection. Is that a nice way to do the trick? or am I getting all confused here....

  • Extract multiple values from one column in MySql

    - by Neil
I've noticed that MySql has an extensive search capacity, allowing both wildcards and regular expressions. However, I'm in somewhat in a bind since I'm trying to extract multiple values from a single string in my select query. For example, if I had the text "<span>Test</span> this <span>query</span>", perhaps using regular expressions I could find and extract values "Test" or "query", but in my case, I have potentially n such strings to extract. And since I can't define n columns in my select statement, that means I'm stuck. Is there anyway I could have a list of values (ideally separated by commas) of any text contained with span tags? In other words, if I ran this query, I would get "Test, query" as the value of spanlist: select <insert logic here> as spanlist from HtmlPages ...

  • Issue with plotting daily data using ggplot

    - by user1723765
I tried to plot daily data from 9 variables in ggplot, but the graph I get cannot handle the date variable properly. The x axis is unreadable and its impossible to read the plot. I'm guessing there's an issue with the handling of dates. Here's the data: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22681355/su.csv Here's the code I've been using: su=read.csv(file="su.csv", head=TRUE) meltdf=melt(su) ggplot(meltdf, aes(x=Date, y=value, colour=variable, group=variable))+geom_line() and here's the output: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22681355/output.jpg here's the same plot done in excel, why does it look completely different?

  • R: how can I concatenate a list?

    - by John
    I'm trying to produce a single variable which is a concatenation of two chars e.g to go from "p30s4" "p28s4" to "p30s4 p28s4". I've tried cat and paste as shown below. Both return empty variables. What am I doing wrong? > blah = c("p30s4","p28s4") > blah [1] "p30s4" "p28s4" > foo = cat(blah) p30s4 p28s4 > foo NULL > foo = paste(cat(blah)) p30s4 p28s4 > foo character(0)

  • Integers in JavaScript

    - by muntoo
I'm a beginner to Javascript so forgive me if I sound dumb because I learned some Javascript from W3Fools (which are really difficult tutorials - they don't explain anything I want to know, but everything I probably can guess from my experience with C++). I may be switching over to MDN, but if you can recommend any other tutorials, that be great. Anyways, so here's my question: I just read a few lines of this, and apparently: Numbers in JavaScript are "double-precision 64-bit format IEEE 754 values", according to the spec. This has some interesting consequences. There's no such thing as an integer in JavaScript, so you have to be a little careful with your arithmetic if you're used to math in C or Java. I've already seen that there are few of the data types (for variables) I'm used to from C++. But I didn't expect all numbers to automatically be floats. Isn't there any way to use integers, not float? Will a future version of JavaScript support ints?

  • How to use Region Time Zone with a .Net application?

    - by davitz38
I'm working on an asp.net mvc application. Each user have his own time zone. Right now, I'm using "TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones" to generate a drop down list in order for the user to select a timezone and this is what I store in my db They are like that: Morocco Standard Time (00:00:00) UTC (00:00:00) GMT Standard Time (00:00:00) ... I know that php use a different timezone set, they are "region timezone", for example: Europe/Paris Europe/London ... My question is: is there a way to play with the region timezone (like php) in an .NET application? The only way I can think of is to bind each php region timezone to the .net timezone. Also, the "TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones" list all of the timezone on the machine. Is the list different between windows server, windows vista, windows xp? Hope this make sense, thanks guys

  • Trigger the change event of a textbox in jQuery

    - by Danny Chen
I have an asp:TextBox with asp:RegularExpressionValidator to validate if it's a number. Obviously an onchange event will be attached to this textbox while rendering. Also I add a change event at $(document).ready to make some calculation when the value is changed. <asp:TextBox id="myText" runat="server" /> <asp:regularexpressionvalidator id="myRev" ControlToValidate="myText" runat="server">*</asp:regularexpressionvalidator> $(document).ready(function(){ $('[id$=myText]').bind('change',function(){ //do something }).change(); //force the change event at the very beginning }); My function will be executed later than the .net generated js because of the register time. But the .net js throws an error. I traced in the js: function ValidatorOnChange(event) { ... } and found that all of event.fromElement,event.toElement,event.srcElement are null which causes the exception. Did I do something wrong? Any solutions? Thanks.

But why is that icon missing? Thanks in advance :)

  • Record video file with 'thumbnail' image in Windows phone 8

    - by Deepak
I'm trying to create a video capturing application store video file with 'thumbnail' image in Windows phone 8. I got some hint from the following link : How to get the thumbnail of a recorded video - windows phone 8?. But the result is quite annoying. I think there is some problem with the function. void captureSource_CaptureImageCompleted(object sender, CaptureImageCompletedEventArgs e) { using (IsolatedStorageFile isoStore = IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication()) { WriteableBitmap wb = e.Result; string fileName = "CameraMovie.jpg"; if (isoStore.FileExists(fileName)) isoStore.DeleteFile(fileName); IsolatedStorageFileStream file = isoStore.CreateFile(fileName); Extensions.SaveJpeg(wb, file, wb.PixelWidth, wb.PixelHeight, 0, 85); file.Close(); captureSource.Stop(); fileSink.CaptureSource = null; fileSink.IsolatedStorageFileName = null; } } e.Result has some invalid data in it.while i bind it to an image control it shows some annoying image. Anyone please help me.

  • match 'article' in url RewriteRule

    - by daniel Crabbe
hello there. building a site which has content for each section. urls range from; /work/ /work/print/ /work/print/folders etc. however, at any point a user can click on an article so; /work/article/1066 /work/print/article/1066 /work/print/folders/article/1066 using .htaccess i need to detect when there is 'article' in the url and set some different variables. RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/$ sets index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&level3=$3&level4=$4 but if 'article/([0-9-]+)' is in the url, say /work/print/article/1066 return index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&articleID=1066 basically the amount of levels will always be different but i'd like to return those as needed. another example would /work/print/folder/archive/article/1066 return index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&level3=$3&level4=$4&articleID=1066 any help appreciated! • Cheapest way of binding local variable to closure

    - by mmotorny
    I believe following to be a cheapest way of binding local variable to closure: void ByRValueReference(A&& a) { } std::function<void ()> CreateClosureByRValueReference() { A a; std::function<void ()> f = std::bind(&ByRValueReference, std::move(a)); // !!! return f; } However, it does not compile under Clang 3.1: error: no viable conversion from '__bind<void (*)(A &&), A>' to 'std::function<void ()>' and gcc 4.6.1: /usr/include/c++/4.6/functional:1778:2: error: no match for call to ‘(std::_Bind<void (*(A))(A&&)>) ()’ Am I violating the standard or it's just broken standard libraries?

  • keypress event not being triggered only at start and end of text field in Firefox (JQuery)

    - by rlivsey
I'm listening for keypress events on an input field with delegation. For some reason, Firefox doesn't trigger the delegated event for cursor UP when at the start of the field, or cursor DOWN when at the end. LEFT and RIGHT work as expected all the time. Directly binding an event listener to the field works fine, so it has to be something to do with delegation. Does anyone know if this is a know issue, I couldn't find anything on Google/forums etc..? $("div").delegate(":input", "keypress", function(e){ // doesn't get triggered }); $("div :input").bind("keypress", function(e){ // gets triggered fine }); Here's a demo which shows the issue - http://livsey.org/jquery.delegation.html

But I can't change it! Any tips?

  • Alternative to nesting for loops in Python

    - by davenz
I've read that one of the key beliefs of Python is that flat nested. However, if I have several variables counting up, what is the alternative to multiple for loops? My code is for counting grid sums and goes as follows: def horizontal(): for x in range(20): for y in range(17): temp = grid[x][y: y + 4] sum = 1 for n in temp: sum += int(n) return sum This seems to me like it is too heavily nested. Firstly, what is considered to many nested loops in Python ( I have certainly seen 2 nested loops before). Secondly, if this is too heavily nested, what is an alternative way to write this code?

My Code: using (Socket sock = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Raw, ProtocolType.IP)) { sock.Bind(new IPEndPoint(MYADDRESS, 0)); sock.SetSocketOption(SocketOptionLevel.IP, SocketOptionName.HeaderIncluded, true); sock.IOControl(IOControlCode.ReceiveAll, BitConverter.GetBytes(1), null); while (true) { byte[] buffer = new byte[sock.ReceiveBufferSize]; int count = sock.Receive(buffer); // ... } } The problem is definitely my pc! But maybe there is a workaround ...

  • UISegemnted COntrol - selecting 3rd segment activates second segment

    - by diggers25
I have a segmented control with 3 defined segments. i am looking to capture the segment index so I can use it in an if statement to update variables accordingly as such: -(IBAction)numPlayers:(id)sender; { numPlayersSegment = [(UISegmentedControl *)sender retain]; if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex == 0) { numOfPlayers = 2; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = 1) { numOfPlayers = 3; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = 2) { numOfPlayers = 4; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = -1) { numOfPlayers = 0; } NSLog(@"Players selected = %d", numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex); However whenever I press the third segment (index 2) it returns the value of the second segment (index 1) and also highlights the 2nd segment. I can see nothing untoward in IB. Has anybody seen this and have any suggestions. I am using xcode 3.2.1 on snow leopard thanks

  • saving a records containing a member of type string to a file (Delphi, Windows)

    - by wonderer
I have a record that looks similar to: type TNote = record Title : string; Note : string; Index : integer; end; Simple. The reason I chose to set the variables as string (as opposed to an array of chars) is that I have no idea how long those strings are going to be. They can be 1 char long, 200 or 2000. Of course when I try to save the record to a type file (file of...) the compiler complains that I have to give a size to string. Is there a way to overcome this? or a way to save those records to an untyped file and still maintain a sort of searchable way? Please do not point me to possible solutions, if you know the solution please post code. Thank you

  • PHP session values lost after redirect on one script but preserved after redirection on another.

    - by Iuhiz
On my registration script i have: // Save registration information into the database // Set sessions $_SESSION['var1'] = 'somevalue'; $_SESSION['var2'] = 'anothervalue'; header('Location: /somewhere'); exit(); Then on my login script i have: // Check if user provided correct login credentials if (correct) { $_SESSION['var1'] = 'somevalue'; $_SESSION['var2'] = 'anothervalue'; } header('Location: /somewhere'); exit(); What happened is that the session variables were lost after the header redirect in the registration script but they were preserved after the redirect in the login script. I've checked session_id() at both pages and they have the same value, included session_start() at the top of every page and basically tried the solutions to this common problem found on Stackoverflow but somehow nothing seemed to work. I'm beginning to wonder if it is something to do with my server configuration instead of my code.

  • press button to open web page from app

    - by Lee
    I have an app that I want to interact with a web page. Basically I want to press a button and the web page will open in a new view... Sorry I wasn't clear, I am developing on a Mac for an iPhone. Currently I have a "locate me" app that displays your Latitude and Longitude. I want to use those variables to populate 2 of the blanks on a PHP web page/form I have developed. I have added a label and button to my current app, when the button is pressed the URL with the Lat and Long (as passed vars) are displayed in the label. I want those vars to appear on my web page. Hope this is clearer... Solved: I just added these lines of code I found here: NSURL *url = [ [ NSURL alloc ] initWithString: @"http://www.cnn.com" ]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:url];
