• Grabbing Data From Controls In Code Behind

  Hopefully this is a pretty simple question for someone to answer. I have a drop down list control that I need to pull the value from in the code behind of the page, modify it and redisplay it. The modifying and redisplaying I've got no problem with, it's grabing the value from the drop down control. Examples in C# would be appreciated as this web app I've been handed is already coded that way. I'm pretty new to .Net so be gentle and I already did some searching via Google and a little bit on the site here, but couldn't find anything that stood out as being the direction to go in to do this.

• Fix internal links in JS

  I just created a script which extracts the article out of a webpage via server-side JS. (If your interested: it's used for http://pipes.yahoo.com/fb55/expandr .) I just got a little problem with internal links. Some pages include links like: /subfolder/subpage.html What I would need to do is fixing them and setting there root, like this: protocol://secondlevel.firstlevel/subfolder/subpage.html I'm using E4X for processing the page. I don't want to show my current creepy try, it's buggy and slow. Does anybody have a solution for me?

Im a little confused on how to use split when the columns are delimited by a space and -. i Figure once i do that i can use min() and max function. • Android: How to fade out search / home / menu / back buttons?

  Hallo, I'm using my Android (Archos 43) only as an extended display in an industrial application. I just need a single programm to display data received and send user inputs by bluetooth. This little programm should start directly after booting and should disable (fade out) the android-buttons (search, home, menu and back). That's my plan. Here's my problem: I know, there are some applications which can fade out these search/home/menu/back-buttons (like DeskClock or some videoplayers). But how does it work? Just using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" only disables the titlebar, not the 4 android-buttons. Thanks, Dennis

We have a Java backend (torque / turbine / velocity) and are using the jabsorb JSON-RPC library to bridge Java and Javascript. What do I need to know? What is the big picture of Dojo and JSON, and what are the nasty little details that will catch me up? • Getting ready for learn html5

  Hi, I'm a desktop application developer, and I plan learning html5, but as it's not released, there is no (almost) published books and no too much infomation from beginners on the web... I fell I should start with html4 and the current web development skills. I think, I should start with html4, css and javascript... but there are so many technologies related that I get lost :D So, what current technologies will be sill used when html5 be released? I mean, what about "jquery" and "ajax"? I know they are javascript under the hood, but will they still make sense in the future? What would you recommend me considering that I have just a little bit of html knowlegde, almost null CSS and completely null in javascript? Thanks in advance.

• Image gallery with a Lightbox in jQuery

  Hi. I'd like to create a jQuery image gallery of showcased products. It will show one product image at a time, with Next/Previous arrows, and a brief name and price as overlay on the image. If users click it, it will go to the order page. It will have an icon to show a larger, modal version (Lightbox style) of the image with full description, price, and a link to a page to order it. In other words, it's an inline gallery, about 250px X 150px, with next/previous option, but also with a little icon to fire it up in a lightbox type modal window that can have links. Here's an example which doesn't have the inline gallery effect. Here's another, also missing the inline gallery. Is there such a beast as what I'm looking for? Thanks.

• Tilde not recognised in XML public identifier

  Hi everyone I found an interesting bug and wanted to know you think. Brief background: I've written a custom DTD and an example XML file (both UTF-8). I have now implemented a SAX parser in Java which I want to test. I got a SAXException complaining "An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x7e) was found in the public identifier". Now, the URL of my DTD does contain a tilde character (unicode 0x7e). If I move the DTD file to another URL which does not contain a tilde, then my example XML file parses without causing a SAXException. So I have a work-around for this problem, but I am interested to know: why does this happen? Is this a bug? If so, is it with UTF-8, Java (1.6.0_18 x86), Windows (Server 2008 R2 x86_64) or what? Or is this one of those little obscure nuances of the XML 1.0 specification?

  I have a ~300.000 row table; which includes technical terms; queried using PHP and MySQL + FULLTEXT indexes. But when I searching a wrong typed term; for example "hyperpext"; naturally giving no results. I need to "compansate" little writing errors and getting nearest record from database. How I can accomplish such feaure? I know (actually, learned today) about Levenshtein distance, Soundex and Metaphone algorithms but currently not having a solid idea to implement this to querying against database. Best regards. • How can I change my code in Excel 2003 to allow me to paste to multiple cells?

  Ran in to a little problem. If I try to paste to multiple cells that are in the range in the code below, I get a run time error 13, type mismatch. The cells in the range may have data other than X but I only want the hyperlink to appear if the cell contains X. It works fine if I just type an X in the cell or if I paste to one cell at a time. I will have times when I want to paste other text to mutiple cells in this range. Thanks to Remnant for his help on the original code. This one last hurdle will put me in the clear. Thx. • Imagecache, Views, file renaming, and output directories

  I have been trying to figure this one out for awhile and just seem to be getting myself deeper into a rabbit hole.. I think it would be best if I would just explain what I am trying to accomplish and go from there.. Essentially what I would like to happen is a user would upload a photograph from the filefield sources on a content type, and then using views, it would output that different image through different imagecache actions.. The problem seems to be that the actual directories it is making is really cluttered and I would like it to be a little bit more organized due to some file renaming. Here is how I would like the process to happen: Upload image.jpg Imagecache resize 100x100 square and save file to same directory and name the file image-100.jpg Imagecache desaturate 100x100 square and save file to same directory and name the file image-d-100.jpg Currently it seems that every imagecache action will save that file in its own directory.. • Two view App with root template view

  Hi I was wanted to do Application witch have a root template view with a nice logo on top or something adn load other views just below (here is what I have right now: Test App ) But I have a little problem. If I'll remove a comment in file TestAppDelegate.m on line 58 //[currentView release]; Application will crash with bunch of errors when I try to switch views. But if I comment this line Project analyzer is telling me that I have a potential leak with currentView variable. Can somebody spare some time and see in that code what I did wrong?

• Does cache absolute expiration guarantee that the cache is eliminated at the exact time?

  I am using the HttpRuntime cache to store lists of objects and in our current project it was specified that the objects should be cached until midnight, so I am using DateTime.Today.AddHours(24) in order to set the absolute expiration date to midnight. For example, if today is May 26th, the absolute expiration time will be set to May 27th 0:00. But somehow, when I change the clock of my computer, the objects are still in cache. Should I wait a little (the CacheItemPriority is set to Normal)? Am I forgetting something? Thank you

• Methods for making R plots look like Excel plots?

  I've been poking around with R graphical parameters trying to make my plots look a little more professional (e.g., las=1, bty="n" usually help). But not quite there. Started playing with tikzDevice. A huge improvement! Amazing how much better things look when the font sizes and styles in the figure match those of the surrounding document. Still, not quite there. What I'm ultimately looking for are those professional gradient shading, rounded corners, and shadow effects found in MS Excel plots. I know they're probably considered chart junk, but I like them. They're just nice looking. Q: How can I get these effects into my R plots? Do people usually just export to Inkscape and doodle over there? It would be nice if there were a literate programming approach. Is there an R package that handles these effects outright?

• Is it immoral to put a captcha on a login form?

  In a recent project I put a captcha test on a login form, in order to stop possible brute force attacks. The immediate reaction of other coworkers was a request to remove it, saying that it was inapropiate for that purpose, and that it was quite exotic to see a captcha in that place. I've seen captcha images on signup, contact, password recovery forms, etc. So I personally don't see inapropiate to put a captcha also on a place like that. Well, it obviously burns down usability a little bit, but it's a matter of time and getting used to it. With the lack of a captcha test, one would have to put some sort of blacklist / account locking mechanism, which also has some drawbacks. Is it a good choice for you? Am I getting somewhat captcha-aholic and need some sort of group therapy? Thanks in advance.

  Hi All, I'm trying to reverse the order of bits in C (homework question, subject: bitwise operators). I found this solution, but I'm a little confused by the hex values (?) used -- 0x01 and 0x80. unsigned char reverse(unsigned char c) { int shift; unsigned char result = 0; for (shift = 0; shift < CHAR_BITS; shift++) { if (c & (0x01 << shift)) result |= (0x80 >> shift); } return result; } The book I'm working out of hasn't discussed these kinds of values, so I'm not really sure what to make of them. My first thought was, "Great another proponent of lego-land pretend programming" - a concept harking back to the late 80's. But, as I read more, I must admit I have become intrigued. Have you used FBP for a real project? What is your opinion of FBP? Does FBP have a future? In some senses, it seems like the holy grail of reuse that our industry has pursued since the advent of procedural languages.

  I'm writing some little helper classes to handle trees. Basically, I have a node and a special root node that represents the tree. I want to keep it generic and simple. • IIS 7 problem which does not occur under apache

  I'm hosting a little site using a JavaScript to draw a simple graph. It involves one html index file, some css and some js files. It has all been working perfectly on two different apache servers, but when I set up IIS 7 the ajax calls fail. I get no java debug errors in firefox that I can work with, or any kind of error message at all. Without going into the code itself, does anyone have a similar experience with IIS? This is the first time I'm using IIS so I'm not quite sure what to expect to have trouble with. I'd love some input on this, if I have to delve into the code itself I'll make a new thread, I just thought I'd see if this could be a typical issue. Any help is appreciated!

• two android threads and not synchronized data

  i have a (perhaps stupid) question: im using 2 threads, one is writing floats and one is reading this floats permanently. my question is, what could happen worse when i dont synchronize them? it would be no problem if some of the values would not be correct because they switch just a little every write operation. im running the application this way at the moment and dont have any problems so i want to know what could happen worse? a read/write conflict would cause a number like 12345 which is written to 54321 and red at the same time appear for example as 54345 ? or could happen something worse? (i dont want to use synchronization to keep the code as fast as possible)

  Hi, In order to Unit-Test a feature, I need to fake DateTime.Now. Something like: SupposeNowIs(new DateTime(..)); I can either use a third library that does it, or write my own little class. What do you recommand? Do you know any good library for this purpose? How would you fake time in C#? By changing DateTime.Now? (I suppose it's read only?). Thank you!

I wanted to open links such as index.php?page=login to open with login.php, so I used Rewrite mode in .htaccesss, for example RewriteRule ^/*login.php$ /index.php?page=login [L] in a few pages there should be a query for errors such as RewriteRule ^/*support.php?(.+)$ /index.php?page=support&%{QUERY_STRING} [L] It works but I need to deny the main URLs so when users enters index.php?a=login manually nothing (or the main page) would show up and he should open the link only with /login.php. Is there a way to do this? A little help please...

• Noob here, but wanting to try and make my own app.

  Hi all, I have a small amount of programing experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley but would like to make my own app for a certain website I frequent. I would like the website to be a little more user friendly for me instead of having to open browser etc. Is it possible to have a simple forum translated into a widget so you can see the forum posts and post from there?
