• How to use sans-serif family, arial font in matplotlib, in ubuntu 12.04 lts?

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and the Scipy stack. I tried to set in matplotlibrc to use sans-serif family, arial font as default. While this has been working on my Windows computer, it reported the following warning: UserWarning: findfont: Font family ['sans-serif'] not found. Falling back to Bitstream Vera Sans (prop.get_family(), self.defaultFamily[fontext])) And it seems that the font is either not installed, or in a wrong name. I think I have installed the TrueType font (by googling), but I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me to set the font family in the system with the name 'sans-serif' and find the relevant font files that belongs to this folder. • NOOB Memory Problem - EXC_BAD_ACCESS

  I have been banging my head against the wall for a couple days and need some help. I have a feeling that I am doing something really silly here, but I cannot find the issue. This is the controller for a table view. I put the SQL in line to simplify it as part of the troubleshooting of this error. Normally, it would be in an accessor method in a model class. It gets through the SQL read just fine. Finds the two objects, loads them into the todaysWorkout array and then builds the cells for the table view. The table view actually comes up on the scree and then it throws the EXC_BAD_ACCESS.   hi, I'm creating a streaming application, using GStreamer with TCP pipeline, and i implemented start, pause, and stop. but the problem is, that i can't seek, i tried to change the playback value from the server side, then i tried on the client side, and Finally tried to change the value on both at the same time, but in all cases it doesn't work. and I even tried to pause the playback then continue but nothing happens. I'm having this problem with the seek and the volume. • How to render a Partial from a Model in Rails 2.3.5

  I have a Rails 2.3.5 application and Im trying to render several Partials from within a Model (i know, i know -- im not supposed to). The reason im doing this is im integrating a Comet server (APE) into my Rails app and need to push updates out based on the Model's events (ex. after_create). I have tried doing this: ActionView::Base.new(Rails::Configuration.new.view_path).render(:partial => "pages/show", :locals => {:page => self}) Which allows me to render simple partials that don't user helpers, however if I try to user a link_to in my partial, i receive an error stating: undefined method `url_for' for nil:NilClass I've made sure that the object being passed into the "project_path(project)" is not nil. I've also tried including: include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper include ActionController::UrlWriter in the Module that contains the method that makes the above "render" call. Does anyone know how to work around this? Thanks

Or use two existing sp(s), the problem of this approach is that I am doing two round trips to database. which can be poor performance especially if I have database in another server. • What is the proper way to create a recursive entity in the Entity Framework?

  I'm currently using VS 2010 RC, and I'm trying to create a model that contains a recursive self-referencing entity. Currently when I import the entity from the model I get an error indicating that the parent property cannot be part of the association because it's set to 'Computed' or 'Identity', though I'm not sure why it does it that way. I've been hand-editing the file to get around that error, but then the model simply doesn't work. What is the proper way to get recursive entities to work in the Entity Framework. • Removing views from UIScrollView

  I have two UIScrollViews that I move images between. The user can drag and forth between the scroll views. I am trying to animate the movement of the image from one scroll view to another. In -touchesMoved (handled in my UIViewController which has two custom UIScrollViews that intercept touch and sends to my UIViewController), I am trying to set the "center" of my UIImageView that is being moved. As it is moved, the image gets hidden behind the UIScrollView and not visible. How do I make it appear on top of the UIScrollView? I am able to handle the -touchesEnded properly by animating in the destination scroll view. I am also confused about -convertPoint:fromView: usage in the iPhone Programming Guide (See Chapter 3, Event Handling). If the touch coordinates are in window coordinates, to change my view (UIImageView inside a UIScrollView which is inside a UIView and inside a window) center don't I have to use -convertPoint:toView:, i.e., imageView.center = [self.view.window convertPoint:currentTouchPosition toView:imageView]; What am I missing?

• Javascript performance issue

  Hello, I've built a top menu based on superfish, but the amount of displayed items in the menu is huge. And there is also alot of jquery on the top menu. Now to the problem, everytime I load any page that has the menu, the browser(ie7) feels like it looks it locks it self for about 1-2 seconds while the page is being loaded. I'm sure that the top menu is the issue, and I would like to improve the performance of the page.(besides removing the menu and removing the menu items) I've used firebug to see which calls take most of the times, and I the calls are standard jquery or superfish. The top menu is a ascx control. Are they any good ways to let the page load first and the menu later or any other goods ideas to improve the performance?

• Is System.AddIn mostly about making it easier to use Remoting or does it make it harder to do so?

  It takes at least 7 assemblies and restricting my AddIn's data model to data types that remoting can deal with before the appdomain isolation features begin to work. It is so complex! The System.AddIn teams blog implies to me they were trying to re-create a mental model of COM, a model I never understood very well in the first place and am not sold on the benefits. (If COM is so good why's it dead?-rhetorical question.) If I don't need to mirror or interop with legacy COM (like VSTO does using System.AddIn), is it possible to just create some classes that load load in a new AppDomain? I can write the discovery code my self, I've done it before and a naive implementation is pretty fast because I'm not like iterating over the assemblies in the GAC! So my specific question is, can I get the AppDomain isolation that AddIns provide with a few code Remoting snippets, and what would those be?

  Hi, I'm trying to check if a result in my DQL is NULL. I got the following DQL query: $q = self::createQuery("l") ->select('i.*, s.aantal, m.naam, c.cat_naam, a.app_id') ->from('InstalledBase i, i.Spare s, i.Apparaat a, a.Categorie c, a.Merk m') ->execute(); return $q; Now i want to check if the s.aantal is NULL so i do: if(is_null($installedbase->Spare->spare_id)) when the variable is NOT null everything works, but when it is actually NULL i get a E notice message: Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in \installedbase\templates\_index.php on line 29 It does see that it is null though because the if condition is executed. Weird thing is i'm doing the exact same thing on another page where it works no problem. But i must be doing something wrong or stupid since those messages generally don't show for nothing. So can anybody explain this to me? :)

  To make story short, i'm building self-learning banner management system. Users will be able to insert these banners to their site when banners will be shown based on sales/impressions ratio. I have 4 tables Banners bannerID int bannerImage varchar.... SmartBanners smartBannerID int smartBannerArrayID int bannerID int impressionsCount int visibility tinyint (percents) SmartBannerArrays smartBannerArrayID int userID int Statistics bannerID int saleAmountPerDay decimal... Each night i need to generate new "visibility" for each SmartBanner based on whole SmartBannerArray that same user has. So i need to get sum of impressions and sales for each bannerID in SmartBannerArray. All comes to my mind is to use double cursor, one will loop thought SmartBannerArrays get needed values for sum of impressions and sales and then inner loop which will access each SmartBanner and change it's "visibility" percentage based on (sales/impressions)/(sumOfSales/sumOfImpressions)*100 Hope you get the picture... Is there any other way to design better tables or not to use double cursor to avoid server overload ?

I've understood that pushing searchController onto the navigation controller retains it, and I should release it from my code. I did just alloc/init it, after all, and if I don't free it, it'll leak. With that line commented out, navigation works great. With it NOT commented out, I can navigate INTO this view okay, but coming back UP a level crashes with a *** -[CFArray release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x443a9e0 error. What's happening here? Is the NavigationController releasing it for me somehow when it goes out of view? The boilerplate that comes on a UINavigationController template in XCode has the newly-pushed controller getting released. But when I do it, it fails.

  Imagine that I have a view with some UIKit object as its subview (for example, UIActivityIndicatorView - this doesn't matter). This view also has a selector, called doSomething, which somehow manages UIKit object (in our example it can start or stop indicator view). I create NSInvocationOperation (from view's code parts) with initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(doSomething) object:nil. Then add it to NSOperationQueue. And all works fine. How?! It should be a new thread and non-thread-safe UIKit object! Why no error found (and no crash happened)?
