• iPhone: Using static library in an application crashes the device but not the iphone simulator

  I have a library I made, and now I want to utilize it in an application. I've believe I've properly linked to the library. Here are all the things I've done: Set the header search path Set other linker flags to "-ObjC" Added the static library xcode project Made sure the lib.a was listed as a framework target Added the library as a direct dependency Like I said in the title, I've successfully run the app with the static library in the simulator. • How to use a specific PDF IFilter

  I'm trying to extract text from PDF files using an iFilter. The Adobe PDF iFilter that is distributed with Adobe Reader is awful, returning HRESULT E_FAIL messages for many PDF documents. The FoxIt PDF IFilter works beautifully on virtually all of the PDFs I've been using for testing. The problem is that every time the Adobe Updater runs, it replaces the awesome FoxIt IFilter with the crappy Adobe IFilter. I've been using the LoadIFilter method to get the registered IFilter for PDF files. Is there a way to force the Win32 API to load the FoxIt IFilter instead of the Adobe IFilter? NOTE: This question about determining which IFilters are installed asks a related -- but not identical -- question.

• Why does CLLocationManager returns null locations on the iphone SDK 4 beta in the Simulator?

  Hi everyone, I have this piece of code: - (void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { NSLog(@"Manager did update location!!"); self.currentLocation = newLocation.description; } I have this code inside a class that conforms to the CLLocationManagerDelegate. I tested earlier in sdk 3.0 and works nice (on both simulator and device). I'm testing this class on the SDK 4, in the simulator, but it gives null as a newLocation. I can't even get the NSLog for the first call. I checked other app where I use the location framework and it doesn't work either. I implemented the locationManager:didFailWithError: message also, wich is never called. Can anyone please confirm that the simulator can't do any CLLocationManager capabilities? (a link where the bug is reported as a known issue will be awesome). Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

• Consumed WCF service returns void although return type (& value) specified

  I have a WCF service that I am attempting to connect to via a console application for testing (although will move to WPF for the final interface). I have generated the proxy, added the service reference to my project in visual studio and I can see all the methods I have created in my WCF interface: SupportStaffServiceClient client = new SupportStaffServiceClient("WSHttpBinding_ISupportStaffService"); client.myMethod(message); However when I call a method, which in the WCF interface is specified as returning a value, the method returns void in the console application. client.getMethod(message); The WCF service method is definitely returning a message, I'm just unsure as to why the client cannot "see" the return.

• Best way to detect integer overflow in C/C++

  I was writing a program in C++ to find all solutions of a^b = c (a to the power of b), where a, b and c together use all the digits 0-9 exactly once. The program looped over values of a and b, and ran a digit-counting routine each time on a, b and a^b to check if the digits condition was satisfied. However, spurious solutions can be generated when a^b overflows the integer limit. I ended up checking for this using code like: unsigned long b, c, c_test; ... c_test=c*b; // Possible overflow if (c_test/b != c) {/* There has been an overflow*/} else c=c_test; // No overflow Is there a better way of testing for overflow? I know that some chips have an internal flag that is set when overflow occurs, but I've never seen it accessed through C or C++.

• Random servers in Citrix servers suddenly bluescreens (mostly 0x0000008e and 0x0000007e)

  I'm responsible for a Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 farm. Starting Friday 30. November, my servers started to crash randomly. So far we've experienced 80 crashes, so it's obviously becoming an increasingly big problem for us. I have 12+ years experience with IT, so I know the difference between 0 and 1, but I have a hard time cracking this. We've rolled back any recent changes I can think of for different groups of servers, but all groups still seem to crash. I don't have the skills to interpret the memory dumps to find the culprit. Has anyone encountered the same or a similar problem? - might be a generic Windows issue Other than executing "analyze -v" in WinDbg, how do I work my way through the memory dumps to see what actually triggered the BSOD? Any suggested steps in getting to the bottom of this? Any help is greatly appreciated. I can also provide links to kernel memory dumps or WinDbg output if necessary. Thanks! Problem description The majority of the STOP errors we encounter are: 0x0000008e KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (50%) 0x0000007e SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (26%) 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (21%) We also see a few 0x0000000a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (3%). For both 0x0000008e and 0x0000007e bug checks, the exception code is 0xc0000005 (Access Violation). • Breakpoints not working in Delphi 6 DirectShow source filter

  I'm trying to debug my DirectShow source filter. I'm using Delphi Pro 6 on Windows XP along with the DSPACK component library. I'm using Skype as my host application, which I set in the Parameters option in the Run menu, for testing my source filter DLL (ax file extension). Skype runs fine and I see a stream of my OutputDebugString messages in the Event Viewer, but none of my breakpoints are ever hit. In my Project Settings I have optimizations off, stack frames on, debug DCUs on, Range Checking on, and Overflow checking on. Each time I modify my code and run a test I: Do a full build Unregister the DirectShow filter (regsvr32 /u) Register the DirectShow filter (regsvr32) Run Skype as my Host application from the IDE When an Exception occurs, the IDE does trap it and pops up an error dialog box with the option to view the assembler code in the CPU window. However none of my breakpoints are being hit. Can anyone tell me how to get breakpoints working? Thanks.

• Not getting a response when using Android Async HTTP (from loopj)

  I am using the Async Http library from loopj.com and also the sample code from the site. The problem is that when the request is made I don't get a response. I have even overridden the onFinish() function which isn't getting fire either. • BlackBerry Horizontal Scrolling in TreeField or ListField

  I am working on an application that requires text larger than the viewable screen size in both a TreeField and a ListField. As you know, the TreeField and ListField callbacks support only graphics.drawText() methods, so I cannot add an instance of a Field per row. Does anyone have a method of Scrolling horizontally past the viewable text size? Is there maybe a scrollable panel that would work? I know of the NullField(Field.Focusable) trick but this won't work on the list field. Lastly, I am aware that the type of screen makes a different as FullScreen and MainScreen use VerticalFieldMangers. So am using a PopupScreen at the moment for my testing.   Hi, Working in IT for 5 years, I focused on system integration - testing, performance tests and analysis, automation etc. Altough I am working for one of the biggest IT companies, I have the possibility to come up with my own ideas and realize them - for example I have written C# (with SQL backend) bugtracker application with management elements...and I really liked it. I am very creative person but being 25 y/o, I am wondering whether it is too late. I understand the logic of programming but as I was never very good in math I assume I have no chance to become professional programmer in this age. What do you think? Thanks

  When I add jquery to sharepoint 2007 (MOSS) and try and use it on a page no matter what I write on the client i get an "object expected" at the line/column where the "$" appears. I have used fiddler to check that the client is downloading the query JS (which it is) But its like its being ignore and therefor eth "$" is not understood. • Why can I not get a WDS-originated PXE boot to progress past the first file download?

  I'm trying to work out an automated Windows install process, and thought I'd give WDS a look. After some promising initial progress, I seem to have hit a wall. I imported the boot and install WIMs, and created the capture WIM successfully. However, whenever I try to PXE boot the reference machine against the WDS server, it kinda craps out. It finds the server and downloads WDSNBP.COM successfully, and then gives the message "TFTP download failed." According to WireShark, the only communication between the WDS box and the client box is the successful TFTP request and download of boot\x86\WDSNBP.COM. No further requests are sent. The WDS log on the server shows the same thing, one successful download and no more activity. I've tried every combination of the following, with exactly zero change in behaviour: Win Server 2008R2 vs 2012 vs 2012R2 WDS virtualized on KVM, ESXi, VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation Client virtualized on KVM, ESXi, VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation Every network adaptor type offered by the virtualization platforms. "Actual" network vs isolated, virtual network. MS DHCP server vs Linux isc-dhcp-server Joined to a domain vs Stand-alone I tried changing the boot filename in DHCP to pxeboot.com instead, and it has no problem downloading that file instead, but it then crabs about Boot\BCD being corrupted. Also, with 2012, it doesnt appear that WDSNBP.com does the architecture detection, or at least does'nt report that it did. 2008 reports that it found x64, and then errors. I find myself out of things to check, and I dont see anything immediately wrong. Where do I go from here? WDS server is at 192.168.1.50, DHCP/DNS at 192.168.1.7.   I am developing smart device application in C#. I am developing this application for 240*320 screen resolution. I want to make this application screen resolution independent so that it can run on different mobile devices with different screen resolutions. Currently I am testing my application on different emulators for platform- Pocket PC 2003, Windows mobile 6 standard SDK & Windows Mobile 6 professional SDK . When I run the application on emulator for 240*320 screen resolution or less than that it works well ( only it provide the horizontal & vertical scrall bar in case of resolution less tha 240*320). If I run my application on emulator with more than 240*320 screen resolution its User Inferface gets badly affected. How to make the smart device application screen resolution independent ? Can you provide me the code or link through which i can resolve the above issue? Is there any setting for making the application screen resolution independent?

• sIFR 3 HTML text does not display, .sIFR-alternate causing problem

  It seems my sIFR 3 text does not show HTML text if the Flash text is not displayed. Here's one of the pages in question: http://www.jeremyschultz.com/client/orchardplace/website/beta/volunteer/ One person has reported not seeing anything when viewing this page, and I can recreate it by removing the Flash text with Firebug. Testing with Firebug also suggests the .sIFR-alternate class is what's causing this: when I remove it, the text shows up, and it disappears again when I restore it. I copied the original CSS and also tried applying a few new CSS rules to .sIFR-alternate but nothing has solved it. What do you think? Jeremy [email protected]

• Finding the Geo-location on a Blackberry?

  I'm running into an issue when trying to geolocate users whom are using blackberry devices. Currently there are a few checks that I go through to geolocate the individual the first, using the navigator paramater inside browsers. if(navigator.geolocation) if this fails then I have a backup using a free service (for testing) from maxmind: See Here Yet this doesn't return back the city at all either. • Embedded Linux or eCos ?

  One way to look at it - embedded Linux starts with desktop Linux & ditches the parts not needed for embedded systems (is this actually true?), whereas eCos is designed from the ground up for embedded systems. Now, assume an ARM processor, probably ARM 7 - does performance make a difference? Actually, we talking a very low load system, max 500 transactions a day. Any advantages of one over the other (or FreeRTOS, etc)? Stability, maturity, performance, development tools, anything else? All that I can think of is that if I am certain that I will never port to another o/s, then if I go with embedded Linux, I don't need an o/s abstraction layer to allow me to do unit testing on host (desktop Linux box). Any thoughts or comments? Thanks.

The input button will sometimes be missing, because on a dynamic page the button will sometimes be hidden. See my example using Internet Explorer when viewing my demo link: http://media.apus.edu/it/evan-testing/form.htm I tested this in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc. and all browsers have my style completely removed if the form button is missing. edit It was asked what internet explorer version does this happen in and it occurs in ie7. I've linked against the jar file as it says to in the modifications, but I still have one lingering error. • Filesize with SWFUpload and Amazon S3

  Hello all, I'm currently using SWFUpload to upload files to my S3 bucket. And it's working great. I'm using the script from a website here: http://www.anedix.com/news/article/50 Again, the upload to my S3 works fine, however, I've been running into an issue when attempting to upload larger files. It seems that I cannot upload anything over 50MB. I have tried this from both my webhost and locally, using my local testing environment. My question is this: When uploading with SWFUpload, it should be going straight to Amazon S3, correct? If so, then PHP settings such as MAX_UPLOAD_SIZE should not affect it? (Even though in my local environment, I've set it to 1024MB.) Essentially, what the script does is, shows that it's uploading the file (it takes the appropriate amount of time), redirects to the success page, and does not throw any errors. Any ideas on why this would be happening, or how I can troubleshoot this? Thanks!

  I have a WCF Web Service with basicHTTPBinding , the server side the transfer mode is streamedRequest as the client will be sending us large file in the form of memory stream. But on client side when i use transfer mode as streamedRequest its giving me a this errro "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request" And when i look in to trace information , i see this as the error message Exception: There is a problem with the XML that was received from the network. See inner exception for more details. InnerException: The body of the message cannot be read because it is empty. I am able to send up to 5MB of data using trasfermode as buffered , but it will effect the performance of my web service in the long run , if there are many clients who are trying to access the service in buffered transfer mode. • SIP and Java, where to start and with what?

  I want to implement the SIP protocol in java and would want to be able to create different clients (5 or more) and make them connect to a proxy server. This is all for testing purposes so I would like to be able to see well what's happening on a rather low level. The clients should first be able to communicate trough text and later on maybe also by audio. (If I ever get that far) I already read a bit about the JAIN libraries and what I understood from that is that they are not really well suited for the server side? I also didn't really find any proxy server examples, tutorials, using JAIN. I also found this SIP Servlet Tutorial book, I used HTTP servlets in the past but should I prefer servlets or JAIN or ...? I'm quite new to SIP so I don't really know where to start or what to choose in combination with java.
