• Which is the best image hosting site for hosting images for the website? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I currently have a website and blog and using a limited web hosting plan. When I upload images on my hosting server it consumes a lot of bandwidth and space. So I was thinking of hosting images on some-other image hosting site and direct linking it to my site. I found out few sites like imageshack, photobucket, tinypic, imgur. However, I see all have certain restrictions. The features i am looking for are as follows: 1. At least 10gb space 2. • Populating cells with data from another spreadsheet after just keying in a few letters

  I have 1 workbook with 2 spreadsheets. Spreadsheet 2 column A contains a long list of company names, Columns B - H contain critical information about the company. Spreadsheet 1 contains all of the columns as Spreadsheet 2 plus some other columns. What I'm trying to achieve is that when you start to type in the first 3 characters of a company name on Spreadsheet 1 it would then have a drop down of the companies (as listed on Spreadsheet 2) that share the first 3-5 letters and you would select one. Upon selecting a company name all of the corresponding company information would populate in the other columns on spreadsheet 1 automatically. This is to avoid copying a row from Spreadsheet 2 and pasting it in Spreadsheet 1. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

• Disable of discrete/native graphics on MacBook Retina when using apps like VMware, VLC, etc

  I got a MacBook Pro Retina a few months ago and I'm really happy with it. However, since I do a lot of work in different environments/OSes, I make heavy use of VMware to have them with me when I'm on the road. The MBPr has a great battery life - as long as integrated graphics are being used. Unfortunately as soon as I launch VMware, the MacBook switches to discrete graphics and battery life is effectively halved. I noticed that after installing gfxCardStatus, and now I'm wondering if there is a way to force the integrated graphics being used all of the time, so I can enjoy maximum battery life. Thanks.

• VMware vSphere 4.1: host performance graphs show "No data available", except the realtime view, which works fine

  Here's our scenario: Site 1 has 3 hosts, and our vCenter server is here. Site 2 has 3 hosts. All hosts are ESXi 4.1 update 1. If I view the Performance tab for any host in Site 1, I can view realtime, 1 Day, etc., i.e. all the views give me graph data. For the hosts in Site 2, I can view the realtime graphs, 1 Day and 1 Week both say "No data available". 1 Month had mostly nothing, 1 Year shows that it was working fine for a long time and then started breaking. 1 Month view: 1 Year view: What would cause this loss of performance data?

• C# 4.0 Optional/Named Parameters Beginner&rsquo;s Tutorial

  One of the interesting features of C# 4.0 is for both named and optional arguments.  They are often very useful together, but are quite actually two different things.  Optional arguments gives us the ability to omit arguments to method invocations. Named arguments allows us to specify the arguments by name instead of by position.  Code using the named parameters are often more readable than code relying on argument position.  These features were long overdue, especially in regards to COM interop. • How do I prevent my platformer's character from clipping on wall tiles?

  Currently, I have a platformer with tiles for terrain (graphics borrowed from Cave Story). The game is written from scratch using XNA, so I'm not using an existing engine or physics engine. The tile collisions are described pretty much exactly as described in this answer (with simple SAT for rectangles and circles), and everything works fine. Except when the player runs into a wall whilst falling/jumping. In that case, they'll catch on a tile and begin thinking they've hit a floor or ceiling that isn't actually there. The player is moving right and falling downwards. So after movement, collisions are checked - and first, it turns out the player character is colliding with the tile 3rd from the floor, and pushed upwards. Second, he's found to be colliding with the tile beside him, and pushed sideways - the end result being the player character thinks he's on the ground and isn't falling, and 'catches' on the tile for as long as he's running into it. I could solve this by defining the tiles from top to bottom instead, which makes him fall smoothly, but then the inverse case happens and he'll hit a ceiling that isn't there when jumping upwards against the wall. How should I approach resolving this, so that the player character can just fall along the wall as it should?

• Ditch cPanel / WHM in favour of manual seup

  We currently use cPanel / WHM on a reseller account but are looking at getting a dedicated server. My first thought was to duplicate this set up on the dedicated box to allow us to quickly create new accounts. I'll be a managed server so they'll have set up the LAMP stack. I'm curious if I actually need cPanel and WHM. We don't use many of the features from cPanel / WHM, just creating accounts and databases, clients do not have FTP access. I'm no sys admin and come from a Windows / GUI background but have some knowledge in setting up development servers. WHM: Creating accounts I presume this sets up the Apache virtual host, FTP access and DNS settings. I've some knowledge of editing the Apache files to create virtual hosts. Am I correct in thinking as long as the DNS is pointing to the server IP and the virtual host is configured the server can serve the (php) pages? I'm not sure I need per site FTP access as only we will have access so I could have a server wide/htdocs only access to view all the site. The company who supply the dedicated hosts would also provide the own DNS management tool so I'm not need to cPanel one. MySQL: Creating users and databases We use cPanel to create the MySQL users and databases. As it's a dedicated box and I can have root access I think this could be replaced by SQLyog for db management and phpMyAdmin for user management. Do you I need cPanel or can I get by editing a few text files for creating the accounts, then use the MySQL tools for databases? Or am I missing something major with how the sites are configured?

  I am not able to understand how bytes in memory are being mapped into a struct. My machine is a little-endian x86_64. The code was compiled with gcc 4.7.0 from the Win64 mingw32-64 distribution for Win64. These are contents of the relevant memory fragment: ...450002cf9fe5000040115a9fc0a8fe... I see how ihl and version are mapped: 4 bytes for a long integer, little-endian. But I don't understand how tos and tot_len are mapped; which bytes in memory correspond to each one of them. • How to write constructors which might fail to properly instantiate an object

  Sometimes you need to write a constructor which can fail. For instance, say I want to instantiate an object with a file path, something like obj = new Object("/home/user/foo_file") As long as the path points to an appropriate file everything's fine. But if the string is not a valid path things should break. But how? You could: 1. throw an exception 2. return null object (if your programming language allows constructors to return values) 3. return a valid object but with a flag indicating that its path wasn't set properly (ugh) 4. others? I assume that the "best practices" of various programming languages would implement this differently. For instance I think ObjC prefers (2). But (2) would be impossible to implement in C++ where constructors must have void as a return type. In that case I take it that (1) is used. In your programming language of choice can you show how you'd handle this problem and explain why?

• Requesting quality analysis test cases up front of implementation/change

  Recently I have been assigned to work on a major requirement that falls between a change request and an improvement. The previous implementation was done (badly) by a senior developer that left the company and did so without leaving a trace of documentation. Here were my initial steps to approach this problem: Considering that the release date was fast approaching and there was no time for slip-ups, I initially asked if the requirement was a "must have". Since the requirement helped the product significantly in terms of usability, the answer was "If possible, yes". Knowing the wide-spread use and affects of this requirement, had it come to a point where the requirement could not be finished prior to release, I asked if it would be a viable option to thrash the current state and revert back to the state prior to the ex-senior implementation. The answer was "Most likely: no". Understanding that the requirement was coming from the higher management, and due to the complexity of it, I asked all usability test cases to be written prior to the implementation (by QA) and given to me, to aid me in the comprehension of this task. This was a big no-no for the folks at the management as they failed to understand this approach. Knowing that I had to insist on my request and the responsibility of this requirement, I insisted and have fallen out of favor with some of the folks, leaving me in a state of "baffledness". Basically, I was trying a test-driven approach to a high-risk, high-complexity and must-have requirement and trying to be safe rather than sorry. Is this approach wrong or have I approached it incorrectly? P.S.: The change request/improvement was cancelled and the implementation was reverted back to the prior state due to the complexity of the problem and lack of time. This only happened after a 2 hour long meeting with other seniors in order to convince the aforementioned folks.

• Ubuntu 12.04 LTS won't install - never finishes please help

  Want to try Ubuntu after using Windows for 30 years. Tried to install it 5 times on a Lenovo X120e notebook and twice on a Lenovo M57 desktop. No luck, worse than what Microsoft puts you through. I burned 12.04 LTS to disc. It installs up to the "Who Are You?" screen, then stops. Accepted the recommended computer name and lower case user name. I chose "log me in automatically." After that there is no progress bar, no rotating or pulsing button, nothing to indicate the Ubuntu has not died or fallen asleep. Is that how it is written? Never heard of a program that would take a long time to install while a user looked at a locked, dead screen. I just bought the M57 desktop for my son. It came with Ubuntu 10 something. I wanted to upgrade to 12.04 but it crashed, twice, to a DOS screen saying the pc lacked a certain "init" file. Various help screen commands did not help. On the X120e, I thought a partial-failed Ubuntu install was causing the problem, so I removed the drive and deleted the Ubuntu partition and replaced it. But same result. After I fill in my name, accept computer and user name, the "continue" button does not appear to work. I can go "back" but not forward. I have waited torturous hours. It doesn't take more than two hours to install, does it?any It is my own fault because of the high expectations I had for a sensible, hassle-free installation, but I am immensely disappointed. • Can you have a WMI query for GPO Filter based on user's OU?

  I'm wondering if there is a way to have a WMI query check the OU of the user logging on. I'd like a GPO (linked to Citrix servers OU) to apply only to users if the user is in a certain OU - this is for Citrix so the overly obvious answer of - well just link it to the OU the user is in does not apply. This also cannot be done using security groups because a long time ago those started to get used as Distribution Groups also and now too many are widely inaccurate. Lastly I need to apply this to the entire GPO as there are more than just group policy preferences included so I can't use the item-level targeting feature either. But my OUs are accurate so I'd like to use those if I can. I'd like a WMI query filter to say, apply GPO if user is member of OU 'x' that doable?

  Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One Tools Release  9.1 has many new features that will help end users be more efficient in their daily jobs. For example, hiding grid columns is now as easy as a left-mouse click. In earlier releases, users could click on the ‘Customize Grid’ link but still had to do several more clicks to hide or show a column . The following example shows how easy this new feature is to use. First, right-mouse click on the column you want to hide; for example the ‘Long Address’ column. The column is now hidden. Second, right-mouse over on any of the columns to show the ‘Unhide’ option. After you select ‘Unhide’, the hidden column is shown. You can then select the column to show, or unhide, the column. This new feature and others are covered in the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne System Administration Rel 9.x course, which has been updated to reflect the new release. • Must developers understand the business domain or should the specification be sufficient?

  I work for a company for which the domain is really difficult to understand because it is high technology in electronics, but this is applicable to any software development in a complex domain. The application that I work on displays a lot of information, charts, and metrics which are difficult to understand without experience in the domain. The developer uses a specification to describe what the software must do, such as specifing that a particular chart must display this kind of metrics and this metric is the following arithmetic formula. This way, the developer doesn't really understand the business and what/why he is doing this task. This can be OK if specification is really detailled but when it isn't or when the author has forgotten a use case, this is quite hard for the developer to find a solution. At the other hand, training every developer to all the business aspects can be very long and difficult. Should we give more importance to detailled specification (but as we know, perfect specification does not exist) or should we train all the developers to understand the business domain? EDIT: keep in mind in your answer that the company could used external developpers.

• Starting with text based MUD/MUCK game

  I’ve had this idea for a video game in my head for a long time but I’ve never had the knowledge or time to get it done. I still don’t really, but I am willing to dedicate a chunk of my time to this before it’s too late. Recently I started studying Lua script for a program called “MUSH Client” which works for MU* telnet style text games. I want to use the GUI capabilities of Mush Client with a MU* server to create a basic game but here is my dilemma. I figured this could be a suitable starting place for me. BUT… Because I’m not very programmer savvy yet, I don’t know how to download/install/use the MU* server software. I was originally considering Protomuck because a few of the MU*s I were more impressed with began there. http://www.protomuck.org/ I downloaded it, but I guess I'm too used to GUI style programs so I'm having great difficulty figuring out what to do next. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone even know what I'm talking about? heh..

• Developing configuration syntax - best practise/rules/methods?

  I am currently developing a small application, which checks if provided data meets certain requirements. The requirements are actually a long list, and might be changing, so I defined a syntax which allows me to state all of the requirements briefly and in a seperate file. Now the overall requirements for the application have changed, and I need to change my configuration syntax. Which leeds me to wonder if there is methodoloy or best practise for developing such syntaxes. Currently what I do is I think about the requirements and come up with an initial syntax, start configuring the first few items and see how it works. If I come upon something that does not work well or not at all with the current syntax, I change the syntax, if possible in a backward compatible way. This somehow works for me, but it feels a bit like fishing in troubled water. Also I feel it does not nessessarly lead to the most concise and easy to understand/use syntax. So I was wondering what other people do, especially if there is a better approach to this.

• Ranking drop after using reverse proxy for blog subdirectory and robots.txt for old blog subdomain

  We have a 3Dcart store and a WordPress blog hosted on a separate server. Originally, we had a CNAME set up to point the blog to http://blog.example.com/. However, in our attempt to boost link-based and traffic-based authority on the main site, we've opted to do a reverse proxy to http://www.example.com/blog/. It’s been about two months since we finished the reverse proxy migration. It appears that everything is technically working as intended, including some robots and sitemap changes; the new URLs are even generating some traffic, as indicated on Google Analytics. While Google has been indexing the new URL locations, they’re ranking very poorly, even for non-competitive, long-tail keywords. Meanwhile, the old subdomain URLs are still ranking mostly as well as they used to (even though they aren’t showing meta titles and descriptions due to being blocked by robots.txt). Our working theory is that Google has an old index of the subdomain URLs, and is considering the new URLs to be duplicate content, since it’s being told not to crawl the subdomain and therefore can’t see the rel canonicals we have in place. To resolve this, we’ve updated the subdomain’s robot.txt to no longer block crawling and indexing. Theoretically, seeing the canonical tag on the subdomain pages will resolve any perceived duplicate content issues. In the meantime, we were wondering if anyone would have any other ideas. We are very concerned that we’ll be losing valuable traffic, as we’re entering our on season at the moment.

• If I install Ubuntu 12.04, will it recognize all of my RAM?

  I have a question that's been bugging me since a long time. A friend of mine told me that when he had Ubuntu 11.10 installed the OS only recognized 3.4GB instead of 8GB. In the next week I'll be buying a new computer and I'll have 8GB of RAM, does the Video Card need to have it's own video memory for the OS to recognize the RAM entirely?. If you could give me some advise on how to configure my PC before I buy it it would be great. Thanks. Tengo una duda que me ronda de hace tiempo. • Is there a successor to NTFS?

  What I am asking is if there is any file system that is known to be a possible successor of NTFS? I am asking because I just bought a new external, and realized that the path to a file, including the file name itself, cannot add up to more than 255 characters. This is known as the "Long File Name" by microsoft. I am assuming this is due to the file system limitation, so I am searching for any possible alternatives. I have a windows 7 based machine, but I am under the assumption that there would be third party software that would work with windows to make the new file system accessible by windows explorer.

• How to fix AVI index error

  I try to open an AVI file. The first software I tried is VLC media player. It reports some error about AVI index: This AVI file is broken. Seeking will not work correctly. Do you want to try to fix it? This might take a long time. I chose yes, and it began fixing AVI index and existed when the repair progress bar reaches 20% or so. Then the video started playing and stopped much earlier than when it is supposed to finish. Next I tried to open it in Totem Movie Player, which also stopped earlier at the same place as in VLC player. I tried to play it in GMplayer. Now the entire AVI file can be played from start to finish, but it is impossible to drag playing progress bar while it was possible in VLC player and Totem player. I heard that Avidemux can fix AVI index error, but later discovered it even failed to open the AVI file before it could try to fix the error. So I was wondering how I can fix the AVI index error, or at least drag the playing progress bar in GMplayer? Thanks and regards!

  Hi. So, long story short, some days ago I pusblished an iPhone game, I think the game wasnt that bad tbh, and still I got only 10 sells at $0.99. Are they any publishers, sponsors, or distributors to make your game "visible" on the app store market?, or the only thing you need is to have an amazing game and thats all? Somehow I think that even if you have an awesome game if you dont do that "marketing magic" correctly you will not exist in the store. • Google ranking, page crawl

  please don't mind me for asking this newbie question about Google ranking. I know that in order to get ranked the page has to be crawled by Google bots, I have had a page example of which I will get a better understanding of how the system works with Google. I have made a page on my website last month, it got indexed pretty quickly, then I found that it's in Google's page 15 on my keyword as a start, next day it made it to page 13, then after a week it was jumping back and forth in page 17/18 up to 20. Now a month passed by, when and it isn't listed in any position of that 'keyword' sometimes I will find it in page 30, but later I won't find it anywhere, keep happening this way these days. Even if it isn't listed in any page for my keyword if I do a search for "site:thepageadress" it will be listed which means I'm not penalized and my page is there for google to see, but it isn't in the search result for my keyword. But when I write "site:thepage_adress" and I hit "search tools" option and click on "Past day" or "past week" it isn't listed, it is only listed when I click on "Past month" which I think means that Google indexed the page, looked at it once when I published it, and never looked at it again, is this a fair statement? So two questions that comes to mind here. 1- Should Google keep looking at a page even if I haven't changed any info for it? and is this an indication for me that my page is doing fine? or is it normal that Google see's it once and thats it? 2- Why and how to fix the fact that my page keeps jumping back and forth in the ranking result for keyword, and sometimes it isn't even listed, what does that mean? Sorry for the long msg, I hope to god that somebody help me with this. Thank you!

• Dialing into multiple PPP connections on Ubuntu

  I have multiple 3G USB based Modems. I would like them to keep connected simultaneously, NOT necessarily aggregating their bandwidth; a separate intelligent application would manage their utilization effectively. However I am running into problem of setting up proper routes for the ppp0,ppp1 interfaces: when one of them connects, other's entries in the routing table get updated so it is no more usable. If I reconnect the second one, it would override the first one's routing entries. If I do it over and over, sometimes both of them's entries disappear while in rare cases the two work well. I have tried it both using NetworkManager as well as WVDial but issue pops up in both of these. Perhaps both of them use same PPP dialer at the backend and thats why this issue appears. What is the proper solution to make them work together? In the long run, I'd also like them to automatically dial in once USB gets connected.
