• Getting error when compiling debug mode: C++/CLI - error LNK2022

  I've got a CLI code wrapping a C++ DLL. When i try to compile it in debug mode, i get the following error: Error 22 error LNK2022: metadata operation failed (8013118D) : Inconsistent layout information induplicated types .... MSVCMRTD.lib (locale0_implib.obj) The weird thing is that on Release mode it compiles OK and works OK. The only difference i can see that causes the problem is when i change: Configuration Properties - C/C++ - Code Generation - Runtime Library When it's set to: Multi-threaded Debug DLL (/MDd) it throws the error. When it's set to: Multi-threaded DLL (/MD) it compiles fine. The same settings work for all the other DLLs in the project (CLI and C++) and they inherit the same properties. I'm using VS2010. So, how can i solve this ? And can I get some explanation to WHY this is happening ? Update: I've basically tried changing every option in the project's properties with no luck. I've read somewhere that this might be caused from duplicate declarations of a type of the same name. But in the CLI file i'm calling std::string etc. explicitly from std. Any other ideas ?

• Check if TIFF file is complete

  I have a FileSystemWatcher monitoring a directory that receives TIF files from a scanning device. Its necessary to check if the scanning process is done and then read a multipage TIF file, otherwise, the FileSystemWatcher will raise the event before the file be fully scanned. I have something like: private void OnFileCreated(...) { while(IsFileLocked(path)) Thread.Sleep(time); // OK to read } This is what is happening: - Scanner creates the file - FileSystemWatcher detects the file, but its in use - Scanner reads the first page to the file - Scanner releases the file - My code leaves the while(FileInUse(path)) - My code reads the incomplete file (problem) - Scanner adds more pages to the file Let's say the scanner is scanning 100 pages, then, when "OK to read", the file will be incomplete (99 pages left). So, its necessary to know if the file is complete or not. Maybe waiting some time to see if the file is modified, but this time span can be up to hours, because the scanner can get idle scanning the same TIF. Other solution would be checking some flag in the TIF file that indicates that the file is not complete(I've looked for this but don't found anything).

• c# "==" operator : compiler behaviour with different structs

  Code to illustrate : public struct MyStruct { public int SomeNumber; } public string DoSomethingWithMyStruct(MyStruct s) { if (s == null) return "this can't happen"; else return "ok"; } private string DoSomethingWithDateTime(DateTime s) { if (s == null) return "this can't happen"; // XX else return "ok"; } Now, "DoSomethingWithStruct" fails to compile with : "Operator '==' cannot be applied to operands of type 'MyStruct' and '<null>'". This makes sense, since it doesn't make sense to try a reference comparison with a struct, which is a value type. OTOH, "DoSomethingWithDateTime" compiles, but with compiler warning : "Unreachable code detected" at line marked "XX". Now, I'm assuming that there is no compiler error here, because the DateTime struct overloads the "==" operator. But how does the compiler know that the code is unreachable ? e.g. Does it look inside the code which overloads the "==" operator ? (This is using Visual Studio 2005 in case that makes a difference). Note : I'm more curious than anything about the above. I don't usually try to use "==" on structs and nulls.

• How to remove the upper right close button

  I need to kill the close 'x' button at the top of a jQuery UI modal dialog box. I have a modal that opens with an OK button that redirects to the site. The site behind the modal is in an iframe. When the user agrees to the statement in the dialog box and clicks the 'OK' button, it redirects to the site that is outside the iframe. If the user clicks on the 'x', it goes to the iframe site, which I do not want to have happen. I need the modal to work as a one-way to the site it goes to. It basically forces the user to accept the user agreement. I would post code, but its an intranet site. Thanks everyone for your help! EDIT: This site is a government intranet portal, not a commercial site. So the goal is NOT to trap a user into the site, but rather to let the user know that the use of this site is restricted and to make sure you understand and accept the user agreement or you cannot use the site.

• How to load an ImageView from a png file?

  I take a picture with the camera using Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE ); startActivityForResult( intent, 22 ); When the activity completes, I write the bitmap picture out to a PNG file. java.io.FileOutputStream out = openFileOutput("myfile.png", Context.MODE_PRIVATE); bmp.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 90, out); That goes OK, and I can see the file is created in my app private data space. I'm having difficulty when I later want to display that image using an ImageView. Can anyone suggest code to do this? If I try to create a File with path separators in, it fails. If I try to create a Uri from a name without separators, that fails. I can open the file OK using: java.io.FileInputStream in = openFileInput("myfile.png"); But that doesn't give me the Uri I need to set an image with iv.setImageURI(u) Summary: I have the picture in a png file in private app data. What's the code to set that into an ImageView? Thanks.

• Significance in R

  Ok, this is quite hard to explain, but I'm at a complete loss what to do. I'm a relative newcomer to R and although I can completely admire how powerful it is, I'm not too good at actually using it.... Basically, I have some very contrived data that I need to analyse (it wasn't me who chose this, I can assure you!). I have the right and left hand lengths of lots of people, as well as some numeric data that shows their sociability. Now I would like to know if people who have significantly different lengths of hand are more or less sociable than those who have the same (leading into the research that 'symmetrical' people are more sociable and intelligent, etc. I have got as far as loading the data into R, then I have no idea where to go from there. How on Earth do I start to separate those who are close to symmetrical to those who aren't to then start to do the analysis? Ok, using Sasha's great advice, I did the cor.test and got the following: Pearson's product-moment correlation data: measurements$l.hand - measurements$r.hand and measurements$sociable t = 0.2148, df = 150, p-value = 0.8302 alternative hypothesis: true correlation is not equal to 0 95 percent confidence interval: -0.1420623 0.1762437 sample estimates: cor 0.01753501 I have never used this test before, so am unsure how to intepret it...you wouldn't think I was on my fourth Scientific degree would you?! :(

• VB.NET 2008, Windows 7 and saving files

  Hello, We have to learn VB.NET for the semester, my experience lies mainly with C# - not that this should make a difference to this particular problem. I've used just about the most simple way to save a file using the .NET framework, but Windows 7 won't let me save the file anywhere (or anywhere that I have found yet).   I have a question: I need to create a user form that contain that usual OK and Cancel Buttons. It also should contain two sets of Options buttons, each set placed inside a frame. The captions on the first set should be basketball, baseball, football, the captions on the second set should be watch on TV and Go to games. I need to write the event handlers and code in a module so that when the program runs, the user sees the form. If the user makes a couple of choices and clicks OK, he should see a message like "Your favorite sport is basketball, and you usually watch on TV." If the user clicks Cancel, the message "Sorry you don't want to play" should appear. I think I almost have it working, but I don't know why I cannot successfully execute the Macro.   I have a function where I have a container which holds strings (eg vector<string>, set<string>, list<string>) and, given a start iterator and an end iterator, go through the iterator range processing the strings. Currently the function is declared like this: template< typename ContainerIter> void ProcessStrings(ContainerIter begin, ContainerIter end); Now this will accept any type which conforms to the implicit interface of implementing operator*, prefix operator++ and whatever other calls are in the function body. What I really want to do is have a definition like the one below which explicitly restricts the amount of input (pseudocode warning): template< typename Container<string>::iterator> void ProcessStrings(Container<string>::iterator begin, Container<string>::iterator end); so that I can use it as such: vector<string> str_vec; list<string> str_list; set<SomeOtherClass> so_set; ProcessStrings(str_vec.begin(), str_vec.end()); // OK ProcessStrings(str_list.begin(), str_list.end()); //OK ProcessStrings(so_set.begin(), so_set.end()); // Error Essentially, what I am trying to do is restrict the function specification to make it obvious to a user of the function what it accepts and if the code fails to compile they get a message that they are using the wrong parameter types rather than something in the function body that XXX function could not be found for XXX class.

However, when testing it using input that WAS correctly formatted it displayed the error message and broke the loop. Anyone figure out why? There's some rep points in it for you :) Thanks in advance

• Facebook SSO authorize in safari but not in facebook app

  My problem: I has developed an app with Facebook SSO in my iPhone/iPad. It was working OK. But I have changed the certificate of my app (so now it has new app ID). I also have changed the "iOS pack ID" property in Facebook: I deleted the old app ID and I added the new one. But now my app doesn't do the Facebook SSO when Facebook app is installed. It does it OK when Facebook app is not installed and it uses Safari. I have read this question and this question that say the problem is the "iOS pack ID" and app ID don't match. I have checked it a lot of times, and it is the same. I have put the old app ID in the "iOS pack ID" property of Facebook, but it still doesn't work. I don't know if Facebook take a time to check if my app ID is valid, and how they show the result. I have been a lot of time with this issue. It seem like the problem is the iOS pack ID is not exactly the app ID, but it is not the problem: they are exactly the same. Thank you very much.

• Digitally sign MS Office (Word, Excel, etc..) and PDF files on the server

  I need to digitally sign MS Office and PDF files that are stored on a server. I really mean a digital signature that is integrated in the document, according to each specific file formats. This is the process I had in mind : Create a hash of the file's content Send the hash to a custom written java applet in the browser The user encrypts the hash with his/her private key (on an usb token via PKCS#11 for example), thus effectively signing the file. The applet then sends the signature to the server On the server I would then incorporate the signature in the file's (MS Office and PDF files can do that without changing the file's content, probably by just setting some metadata field) What is cool is that you never have to download and upload the complete file to the server again. What is even cooler, the customer doesn't need Office or PDF Writer to sign the files. Parts 2, 3 and 4 are OK for me, my company bought all the JAVA technology I need for that for a previous project I worked on. Problem : I can't seem to find any documentation/examples to do parts 1 and 5 for Office files . Are my google skills failing me this time ? Do you have any pointers to documentation or examples for doing that for MS Office files ? The underlying technology isn't that important to me : I can use Java, .Net, COM, any working technology is OK ! Note : I'm 95% sure I can nail points 1 and 5 for PDF files using iText Thanks ** Edit : If I can't do that with hashes and must download the complete file to the client, it's also possible. But then I still need the documentation to be able to sign Office file... in java this time (from an applet)

• XMLHttpRequest() and outputting csv file

  Initially, I developed a javascript function to use window.open to post contents of a form to a new window which simply opened the new window and initiated a csv file download. Now on reflection, I find the opening of the window superfluous and am trying to just execute a XMLHttpRequest() to download the csv. I am not getting what I want and I'm not 100% sure that I can so I thought I'd ask here for some assistance. When a form is submitted, I want to take all the form values and post them to another page which builds an SQL string and builds a csv based on the contents. (This I can do and works fine with XMLHttpRequest() as seen below) var xhReq = new XMLHttpRequest(); var parameters = ""; for ( i=0; i<formObj.elements.length; i++ ) { parameters += formObj.elements[i].name + "=" + encodeURI( formObj.elements[i].value ) + "&"; } xhReq.open("POST", outputLocation, false); xhReq.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); xhReq.setRequestHeader("Content-length", parameters.length); xhReq.setRequestHeader("Connection", "close"); xhReq.send(parameters); document.write(xhReq.responseText); The code above calls the page ok, builds the csv ok, but it outputs the contents into the current browser window instead of initiating a csv file download. • My first MVVM application architecture setup

  Ok, time is coming for my first WPF project :). I work before with Flex and PureMVC and I know how project setup is important in RIA's. I decided to work with MVVM. And decided to work with PRISM framework. Application is somethin like operating system. There will be 'shell' (parent for smaller applications). Smaller application I plan to make like modules. So I plan to design structure of project something like this. Module_A {view, viewModel, model, assets} // for example calculator Module_B {view, viewModel, model, assets} // notebook etc I read prism doc and I see that parrent for all this modules should be shell project, and this is my main question here. Parrent_Project {App.xaml, Bootstrapper.cs, Shell.xaml} Because this shell will be fullscreen with background images (like operating system), right click with some features. Is that ok to create folder structure like in modulesXYZ for Shell.xaml here? I want to start project with good structure so any advice is welcome. Thanks

I know how to decompress it, but the problem here lies in the fact that I cannot separate the Packet from the GZipped data, psuedo-psuedocode (or whatever) on how I do it: Socket sends packet; Socket reads response from server, stores into a ByteArray; Create MemoryStream, use ByteArray; Create GZipStream, use Memorystream; now the problem occurs; I am getting the following Error: System.IO.InvalidDataException The magic number in GZip header is not correct. • Semi-generic function

  I have a bunch of overloaded functions that operate on certain data types such as int, double and strings. Most of these functions perform the same action, where only a specific set of data types are allowed. That means I cannot create a simple generic template function as I lose type safety (and potentially incurring a run-time problem for validation within the function). Is it possible to create a "semi-generic compile time type safe function"? If so, how? If not, is this something that will come up in C++0x? An (non-valid) idea; template <typename T, restrict: int, std::string > void foo(T bar); ... foo((int)0); // OK foo((std::string)"foobar"); // OK foo((double)0.0); // Compile Error Note: I realize I could create a class that has overloaded constructors and assignment operators and pass a variable of that class instead to the function.

• Jquery Apache - IE problem

  I'm having a button tag on my page with a value. <button class='btn' value='value'>show value</button> I have this jquery code : $('.btn').click(function() { var w = 'value = '+$(this).val()+' / text = '+$(this).html(); alert(w); }); In FF, no problem the result is ok (display: value = value / text = show value). The problem comes with IE8 which displays a different results from my testing server and the production server. The testing server is my local machine with a standard XAMPP installation. The productionserver is a server based on linux with apache, php and mysql. Result from the testing server is ok (display like FF), the result from the production server is not good (displaying : value = show value / text : show value). Anyone an idea if it is apache that causes the error ? I know there are some issues with the use of val() because IE is considering it as an attribute and not a value. The problem is that changing the jQuery from val() to attr('value') is quit a lot of work (this implementation is already on a lot of pages) and I think it could be much easier to change something on the webserver.

• Serial port and checkboxes updating

  in my app' i'm recieving data from serial port and save them into two bool arrays. And depends on these array i'm setting checkboxes. But checkboxes are not updating only when i change the tabs.... • How should I properly format this code?

  Hi, I've a small issue here. I am using an if statement with UIAlertView and I have two situations, both result in UIAlertViews. However, in one situation, I want to dismiss just the UIAlertView, the other, I want the UIAlertView to be dismissed and view to return to root view.
