CentOS - Yum doesn't update anymore?

I've been trying to use yum now, but for some reason, not even the search work anymore. I even tried putting packages I already downloaded in the search criteria and is the same. powershell run java process problem

Dear Sirs, I'm trying to run a java process via Powershell in Windows XP. Here's the command: java.exe -cp .;./common.jar -Dcontext=atest1 -Dresourcepath=. DW_Install So, the classpath is . and .\common.jar (I think java takes the wrong slashes, right?) There are two environment variables, one "atest1" the other "." and the class to execute main on is DW_Install (in the default package). This command works in cmd.exe, but doesn't is PS. What's going on? What is PS doing while parsing this command that CMD doesn't do (or vice versa)? Aaron

Vmware server: Browser does not load user interface

I have the latest vmware server isntalled on ubuntu 8.04 lts 64 bit. I access the user interface over this url, which matches my ip and port settings: https://10.1.1.99:11222/ui Sometimes it works in fierofox 3.6, but sometimes not. Same in Google Chrome. When it does not work, what happens is that the cert is checked, the browser is loading something, but the result is a white page. Sometimes the favicon of vmware (blue with 3 squares) appears, but only the white page. And sometimes it works. I reload many times, most of the time the whit epage appears again. On some days I succeed. But on many days not. I can give more info if someone tells me what is needed. Please help, we need this badly.

How do I setup a local DNS server on Mac OS Lion?

I had some serious lag to resolve website address and sometimes things simply wouldn't load (pages kept loading for 5+ minutes without even a timeout error). So I had setup a local dns server/cache using BIND on Leopard and Snow Leopard. Now that I have Lion, i have the same problem, but the instructions no longer apply to Lion and I can't find a way to do it. Has anyone attempted to do this? Are there viable alternatives for DNS servers on OS X 10.7? For those who are wondering I already tried several external DNS server. Only my computer has this issue on the network.

Rails development environment Resque.enqueue does not create jobs

I am having the same problem like Rails custom environment Resque.enqueue does not create jobs , but the solution there doesn't work for me. I'm using Resque for a couple of asynchronous jobs. It works just fine for the staging environment, but for some reason it stopped working on development environment. For example, if I run the following: $ rails c development > Resque.enqueue(MyLovelyJob, 1) Nothing is enqueued. I check Resque using resque-web If I run it on staging - it works just fine. $ rails c staging > Resque.enqueue(MyLovelyJob, 1) I have tried to duplicate the 2 environment, and they seem to use absolutely the same configurations (database.yml , config/environment , etc.), but development is still not working. I already have Java 1.6, but I need to test something with 1.5. I have downloaded the .bin file from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp using the Sun Download Manager. I am trying to load the .arx file for a particular program, once the User clicks on the customized tab in AUtoCAD. Requirements are: 1.When User Clicks on the customized tab, it loads the .arx 2.Runs the program 3.Unload the .arx file. I achieved Point 2 by acedRegCmds-(); I tried getting point 1 and 3 working, by using acedArxLoad(_T("C:\Example\Example.arx")); command, but it did not work. Any help with the same would be highly appreciated Also just curious, should loading multiple commands in LISP work for this?

How can I force my browser to search Google in English?

I'm too bored of seeing sites like Google and such show up in my native language, I would rather like them to be in English. Yet, I have to explicitly change the URL to .com and en and that kind of parameters in order for them to show up in English. Can I somehow force this? So, how is Google configured? However, it is set to English on the site itself so it has to be my browser: Then, how does my browser land up on non-english pages, like Google? It usually shows up in non-English when I'm performing a search, which uses: {google:baseURL}search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}{google:searchFieldtrialParameter}{google:instantFieldTrialGroupParameter}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s When performing a search, it fills these variables in with non-english values. In Varnish, is it normal for the number of freed bytes to be 60% of those allocated?

I have an installation of Varnish 3.02 on an Amazon EC2 Medium Linux instance in front of two relatively low-traffic websites. After an uptime of 2 hours, there are 3400 objects in the cache. Using varnishstat, I checked the variables SMA.s0.c_bytes and SMA.s0.c_freed, which I assume correspond to the total number of bytes allocated since startup and the number freed, respectively. No objects should have had time to expire during these two hours, but still about 60% of the memory allocated since startup (330MB out of 560MB) has already been freed. Do you know if this is normal? If not, do you know what kind of configuration could be wrong?

MySQL com_select?

I'm looking to tune my query cache a bit. According to 7.6.3.4. Query Cache Status and Maintenance in the manual: The Com_select value is given by this formula: Qcache_inserts + Qcache_not_cached + queries with errors found during the column-privileges check However in 5.1.5. Server Status Variables it suggests that this is maintained by the DBMS. Having said that mysql> show status like 'Com_select%'; Always returns a value of 1 - and I'm pretty sure I've run more than one non-cached select query on my database since it started. It looks as if other people are similarly confused. Is this status variable redundant? Which bit of the manual is wrong? TIA

Windows 7 x64 Hard Freezing (again)

Awhile ago, my computer was randomly freezing a few minutes after booting, and I ended up replacing the CPU and mobo after testing the RAM and hard drive, I also couldn't find anything wrong with the video card. So after replacing the presumably faulty hardware, everything worked fine for about a month and a half. All of a sudden, My computer is randomly freezing a few minutes after loading up any intensive application (games, mostly). Most of the time it just freezes with the current frame until I hard reset, although once it printed a BSOD message stating that dxgmms1.sys was to blame. The only difference between these two episodes I can think of is that I can do word/internet/work without issue now, as opposed to the near uselessness my computer was rendered last time. For those of you who want to know, I tested my memory with memtest86 (for 64 bit machines). I can't figure out what could have started this latest round of issues, the event logger just states that a kernel-power event has occurred (like last time) but I think thats just a generic "this machine has rebooted after a sudden shutdown" message.

iTunes memory usage

Why does iTunes use upwards of 70 megs of ram when it is minimized to my system tray playing music? -- Update -- I understand that iTunes is a resource hog :) What I'm trying to find out, is what part of iTunes is using all that ram. Is it the music library? If I have a smaller music library, will it use less ram? Is it loading all the Album Artwork into ram for some dumb reason? Additionally, is there any recommendations on what someone could do to reduce the amount of ram it is using?

How to update a keyboard layout DLL on Windows?

Information about keyboard layout is stored in keyboard layout DLLs on Windows. One can make a custom layout using a tool like Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964665.aspx). It creates the dynamical library and also an installer which places the DLL at a right place and also puts necessary information to registry so the layout can be used. Now my question. How can one update his custom layout? One could uninstall the layout and install the new version which effectively replaces the DLL file. However this alone doesn't work because it seems that the old copy of the DLL stays loaded somewhere and is used when one sets the layout instead of loading new version. So is there a way how to tell the system that its “keyboard layout cache” is invalid? Of course I could reboot the whole system but I'd like to avoid it as it's annoying and seems to be poor design to reboot whole system just to reload a DLL.

Why is the size of windows off by 226x238 if defined via the Window Rules?

I have installed Sawfish 1.8.2 from source on my new Ubuntu 12.04 installation following the Debian instructions, but I had this problem also with the stock 1.5.3. Whenever I define dimensions in the Window Rules for a window, the size is off by exactly 226x238 pixels, which means that 100x100 turns into 326x328. That's a very odd behavior, given that Sawfish is saving and loading the dimensions of the windows correctly (if saved via the window menu). Some additional system information: $ uname -a Linux Dagon 3.2.0-24-generic-pae #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 21 18:54:21 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux $ sawfish --version sawfish version 1.8.2 nvidia proprietary driver, 9600GT Two monitors, 1920x1080 + 1440x900 in one session. Positionng the windows is working fine, only the dimensions are off by that odd number. Does somebody have an idea why?

How to disable 3G USB Modem internal storage from being loaded by linux kernel?

Hi, I've got a problem with my 3G modem [Huawei E122]. It has internal storage and kernel assigns a device [/dev/sdX] to it. Because of that, every second time my machine will not boot - kernel panic - as my usb hdd gets assigned /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda. I cannot use LABEL nor UUID in root= kernel parameter, as it is only available when using initrd, and I can't use it - I am using Debian on my router - mips architecture machine. I have to prevent this from happening, as my router has to start everyday and I have to be sure it works ok. I don't have physical access to restart it when something goes wrong. I don't use my modem internal storage, there's no SD card inserted. However kernel detects the reader and loads it. I can not prevent loading od usb drivers since my hdd is on USB as well. I will appreciate any ideas.

Apache on Windows random long wait times

I have a development machine with Apache installed as a service on Windows. The installation is fresh out of the box, with no changes to configuration aside from adding the PHP module. From day one, I've had a problem that looks like this: Essentially, Apache is freezing for about 11 seconds before replying on random requests. This appears to happen more frequently when the host hasn't been connected to in a while, but this is not always the case. I've eliminated MySQL, PHP, and the specific application; this long wait problem will occur even when loading a static file such as favicon.ico. Thus, the only factor remaining is Apache, which is freezing for consistently around 10-11 seconds before replying. The problem is not the DNS problem that many people point to; as you can see, the DNS lookup is instant, and the problem occurs both on localhost and 127.0.0.1. Thanks for the time.

Dual AJAX Requests at different times

Alright, I'm trying to make an AJAX Chat system that polls the chat database every 400ms. That part is working, the part of which isn't is the Active User List. When I try to combine the two requests, the first two requests are made, then the whole thing snowballs and the usually timed (12 second) Active User List request starts updating every 1ms and the first request NEVER happens again. GRUB2 Boot Configuration

Recently i installed GRUB2, everything is working fine. When my system is started my monitor is showing something like the following "Minimal BASH-Like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename." Press "Esc" key to enter the menu. Boot windows... and when i press the Esc key it then shows the GRUB2 menu showing list of operating systems installed on my system How the remove "Minimal BASH-Like line editing ...." text. I only need this line Press "Esc" key to enter the menu. Boot windows... Note: Both my WindowsXP and Fedora12 are working fine and loading with no problem.

I want to make my ftp server over the internet i made it on Debian linux computer and i changed the port of it to 201 my local ip is 192.168.1.3 so i can access it from any computer on my network through ftp :// mylocalip:201 it appear to me the login page i login with my linux user and can see the files on my ftp server to make it public i make port mapping on my router for port 201 when i try ftp :// mypublicip:201 it give me the login page and when i entered the login data it is loading infinity without open my ftp server files when i made it over default port 21 it works fine. can any one tell me what is the problem here?

Why is Firefox so slow and heavy?

For some reason, when I go to links the pages seem slow and heavy. It also has a lot of lag spikes between page loads. Basically it seems to freeze then load it all at once fast. I'm currently using Firefox 25. But when I use the same Chrome version, it seems to be very fast and smooth page loading. The CPU it takes on average is about 400,000k. Elastix, how to MOVE files from one server to other server?

In my office, i have to schedule for moving a file from one computer to other computer (Both are using Elastix). My idea is using cron, scp, and rm to do this. So here are the script that i use: scp -r /home/data/* [email protected]:/home/data1 && rm -r /home/data/* That script did the copy, but not remove the source file. I already read this question: Hov to _MOVE_ files with scp? The problem is, the computer doesn't have an internet connection. I've got an late 2009 macbook pro 13' and yesterday I replaced the native hd (new hd: Hitachi; same form factor). I choosed "Restore from Time Machine" in the options menu on the snow leopard install discs and waited several hours to complete. After an reboot the mac shows up a white screen with apple logo and tiny loading animation. Nothing happens. After another restart; the same. Now I cant boot from CD using the C-Key and I have no idea how to fix that problem.
