  • How to enable a Web portal-based enterprise platform on different domains and hosts without customization

    - by S.Jalali
I work at Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company. We have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we would like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Out team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? (3) Can these JavaScript modules be made portable and re-usable object modules for different environments and instances? The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex. Databases used are PostgreSQL and MySQL.

  • How long does it take in practice to warm up large in-memory databases?

    - by Sim
Companies such as Peak Hosting are offering 64 core machines with 512Gb RAM for $2K/month. This is a very interesting choice for in-memory databases such as Memcached/Redis as well as databases whose performance degrades rapidly when the data & indexes don't fit in RAM, such as MongoDB. My main concern with monster machines such as these is the time it takes to warm up an in-memory database. In my experience, theoretical metrics, e.g., that SATA can load 100Mb/sec, fall short of what happens in practice. Even at that rate, 100Mb/sec means that loading up 512Gb RAM machine from SATA disks can take over 1 1/2 hours (!). I am looking for real-world reports of warm-up times for machines with very large memory. Please, share details of the software on the machine, data size, storage configuration, e.g., SATA or SSD, network, hosting/cloud provider, if relevant, etc.

  • node.js on CentOS box is at v0.6.18, yum doesn't update or upgrade it. Why?

    - by ariestav
I'm currently working with a CentOS box that has a version of node installed, when I do: nodejs -v I get v0.6.18 But I noticed on nodejs.org website, that the latest release is 0.8.12, so do: sudo yum update nodejs I get Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * base: centos-mirror.jchost.net * epel: fedora-epel.mirror.lstn.net * extras: centos.mirror.lstn.net * updates: centos.mirror.lstn.net Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update What's the deal? Why doesn't yum find the latest version of node? Do I have to download the .tar.gz from nodejs.org and install it that way?

  • Meeting reminders disappearing after accepting

    - by stayinwett
I have a particular user whose Outlook is acting up. Whenever he accepts a meeting invitation from a specific person, the reminders get turned off in the calendar. Every other person who got the meeting invitation still gets the reminders. This is the only thread that I found somewhat relevant: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/32118199/lost-functionality-when-accepting-meeting-requests.aspx This is weird though because he doesn't have any rules that should cause the meeting invitations to be stored in a weird folder or anything, they are left alone. I tried loading his profile and accepting the invitation on my end, and it went through fine (it was marked down in the calendar with a 15 minute reminder). When I looked at previous meetings he accepted from that person, there is indeed no reminder set. Any suggestions? Windows XPSP3, Outlook 2007, Exchange 2k3

  • Can't boot into my Windows 7 64-bit Acer laptop

    - by John Smith
Boot normally -- it hangs on "Starting Windows" animation forever. Boot safe mode -- it bluescreens. Boot with a recovery CD (or try Repair Installation directly without a CD) -- it hangs on the green loading bar forever. I dual-boot Ubuntu and can get into the Ubuntu partition fine so I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the harddrive, but the Ubuntu partition is tiny and I rarely use it and can't access my Windows files anyway. Is there anything I can try that'll help repair whatever happened? I just want to run a checkdisk utility or something similar that'll repair whatever got botched. • EC2 Windows 2008 VM import Not Working

    - by remack
I am trying to upload a Windows 2008 SP2 server image to Amazon EC2, but once the process is complete, I can't connect to it. I had ops export a VMDK from our datacenter. The image appeared to have a fixed IP, so I loaded it in VMWare player and enabled DHCP. I uploaded it following amazon's instructions: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/vmimport/ I start the new instance and try to RDP to the public DNS; connection fails. My two thoughts are: Loading it in VMWare player messed it up somehow, since the instructions say use an ESX image. The image they made me had the wrong network adapter type. The image has an Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT adapter using the E1G60I32.sys driver.

  • jQuery bug when trying to insert partial elements before() / after() ?

    - by RedGlobe
I'm trying to wrap a div around an element (my 'template' div) by using jQuery's before() and after(). When I try to insert a closing after the selected element, it actually gets placed before the target. Example: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8" /> <title>Div Wrap</title> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> <script> $('document').ready(function() { var beforestr = "<div id=\"wrap\"><div id=\"header\">Top</div><div id=\"page\">"; var afterstr = "</div><div id=\"footer\">Bottom</div></div>"; $('#template').before(beforestr); $('#template').after(afterstr); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="template"> <h1>Page Title</h1> <p>Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Mauris placerat eleifend leo. Quisque sit amet est et sapien ullamcorper pharetra. <script>document.write('This script should still work and might contain variables. Please don\'t recommend concatenation.');</script> Donec non enim in turpis pulvinar facilisis.</p> </div> </body> </html> The result is: <div id="wrap"> <div id="header">Top</div> <div id="page"> </div> </div> <div id="template"> <h1>Page Title</h1> <p>Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Mauris placerat eleifend leo. Quisque sit amet est et sapien ullamcorper pharetra. This script should still work and might contain variables. Please don't recommend concatenation. Donec non enim in turpis pulvinar facilisis.</p> </div> <div id="footer">Bottom</div> Why are my closing wrap and page divs getting placed before the target, when I'm trying to place them after() ? Is there an alternative way to accomplish this (keeping in mind I may need to call script functions within the template div)? As I'm sure you're aware, best practices aren't what I'm going for here.

  • QUiLoader and ignored dynamic properties

    - by Googie
    I'm loading the .ui file, where one of the widgets (QComboBox) has a dynamic property (http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/properties.html#dynamic-properties). The UI file looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ui version="4.0"> <class>PopulateScriptConfig</class> <widget class="QWidget" name="PopulateScriptConfig"> <property name="geometry"> <rect> <x>0</x> <y>0</y> <width>400</width> <height>300</height> </rect> </property> <property name="windowTitle"> <string>Form</string> </property> <layout class="QVBoxLayout" name="verticalLayout"> <item> <widget class="QGroupBox" name="langGroup"> <property name="title"> <string>Language</string> </property> <layout class="QVBoxLayout" name="verticalLayout_3"> <item> <widget class="QComboBox" name="langCombo"> <property name="ScriptingLangCombo" stdset="0"> <bool>true</bool> </property> </widget> </item> </layout> </widget> </item> <item> <widget class="QGroupBox" name="codeGroup"> <property name="title"> <string>Implementation</string> </property> <layout class="QVBoxLayout" name="verticalLayout_2"> <item> <widget class="QPlainTextEdit" name="codeEdit"/> </item> </layout> </widget> </item> </layout> </widget> <resources/> <connections/> </ui> The important part is: <widget class="QComboBox" name="langCombo"> <property name="ScriptingLangCombo" stdset="0"> <bool>true</bool> </property> </widget> I'm loading the file with QUiLoader::load(). Note, that I have extended the QUiLoader class, but only to access createWidget() method, where I can query each widget like this: QWidget* UiLoader::createWidget(const QString& className, QWidget* parent, const QString& name) { QWidget* w = QUiLoader::createWidget(className, parent, name); qDebug() << w->dynamicPropertyNames(); return w; } As a result I see empty list displayed, so it seems like the dynamic property is completly ignored. Any ideas? P.S. I've made sure that I load correct file. 3 times.

  • RAID striping on a desktop machine

    - by Blazemore
I currently have a 120Gib SSD which is pretty fast for things like game loading times and video editing. However, I was wondering about getting another identical drive and hooking it up with a striping RAID array in hardware (I boot multiple operating systems). This would have the dual benefits of providing a larger logical drive, while also providing greater performance. However, I have a few questions: What kind of performance increase can I expect to see with a pair of good quality SSDs? How expensive is a quality desktop RAID controller? Will the controller present the OS with a single logical drive? Does this mean I can still partition it and multi-boot? Basically, can I treat the RAID controller as "a hard drive" at the OS level?

  • When I try to install Windows 7 on dell inspiron 1420 which came with Ubuntu freezes at the beginnin

    - by draganstankovic
I have searched many forums and tried a lot of suggested solutions but nothing works. I am sure that installation disk is ok cause it worked before (I was able to install Windows7 on my other notebook - MSI). What happens is: I boot with installation CD, it says 'Windows is loading files...' Then it says Starting Windows (mouse laser works at that moment). Then I get the screen with window which has a title "Install Windows" with options to choose language, keyboard, etc. and asking me to click next. But, the problem is that at that moment mouse and keyboard don't work at all. Mouse's laser is turned off, and if I press CAPS LOCK on keyboard it doesn't turn the LED on. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Why I'm unable to use up/down arrows in my BIOS?

    - by nexus
My BIOS is loading and when I wanted to change anything, the up/down arrows aren't working. What might be the problem? I want to change boot options, but I'm unable to select the boot from CD option. My BIOS version is f2.3. Do I need to upgrade it? I need my system for 2 more months continuously and I'm afraid if there might be some problem upgrading. But anyway, what might be the cause for this behavior? For you info I have the pavilion dv6 series laptop, BIOS version: f.23 processer: Intel(R) core(TM) i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40ghz 2.40GHZ 2.40 GHZ

  • Computer won't stay powered up

    - by Android
I have just tried to turn my PC on this morning and it won't stay powered up. It will come on as normal for about 5 seconds, not quite long enough for the monitor to wake up. Then it will power off. After about 2 seconds it will start again, it will continue like this until I pull out the plug. Plugging it in again doesn't restart the cycle although pressing the power button does. I have tried to clear the cmos but beyond that I have no ideas. It was working perfectly when I put it in hibernate last night. NOTE: I am using a Dell Optiplex 755 UPDATE 1: I took out the motherboard battery and it almost came on then it displays the message Error loading Operating System UPDATE 2: After taking out the custom video card, it says "No hard drive present"

  • What is and what is not replicated in a glassfish cluster with a mod_jk load balancer?

    - by Navigateur
I have a Glassfish (3.1.2) cluster over 2 computers as nodes, with a mod_jk load balancer. Are servlet instance variables replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure it is? Are all actions, including method calls and disk writes, replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure they are? These may seem like stupid questions, but I'm not seeking "load balancing" as much as I am seeking exact replication to enable future upgrading without any service interruption. How do I achieve this if it is not already the case?

  • How do I block my ISP from framing websites?

    - by PJB
I've noticed recently, as of today, that all the websites I visit (except for a specific few sites such as Google) are all put into a frame. I'm not sure what the reason for this is, there are no ads displayed and everything appears normal. The only reason I found out is because the headers weren't loading correctly and none of the page titles showed up properly - I quickly checked the source code and saw that instead of the source of the page I was expecting to see, there was a single line with a frame. I first thought maybe somekind of trojan, but after going through various checks I've determined it's my ISP and/or somekind of Internet Registry (I traced the IP shown in the source code) What can be done to prevent this frame, short of using a VPN? I feel like I am being spied on. PS: I'm located in South Korea.

  • .htaccess rules not working, but the file seems to be loaded

    - by user221877
I am trying to remove .php at the end of the URL from any page thats loaded. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php Its running on my own server, which has WHM/cPanel, so I can change settings at the server level, I'm just not really sure what I'm looking for. I found the httpd.conf file, but it said it was auto generated by whm, so I tried looking in whm for the correct settings but it had barely any settings related to htaccess. If I fill htaccess with gibberish it stops the site from loading, which I assume means that the .htaccess file is being loaded, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

  • C - Error with read() of a file, storage in an array, and printing output properly

    - by ns1
    I am new to C, so I am not exactly sure where my error is. However, I do know that the great portion of the issue lies either in how I am storing the doubles in the d_buffer (double) array or the way I am printing it. Specifically, my output keeps printing extremely large numbers (with around 10-12 digits before the decimal point and a trail of zeros after it. Additionally, this is an adaptation of an older program to allow for double inputs, so I only really added the two if statements (in the "read" for loop and the "printf" for loop) and the d_buffer declaration. I would appreciate any input whatsoever as I have spent several hours on this error. #include <stdio.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> struct DataDescription { char fieldname[30]; char fieldtype; int fieldsize; }; /* ----------------------------------------------- eof(fd): returns 1 if file `fd' is out of data ----------------------------------------------- */ int eof(int fd) { char c; if ( read(fd, &c, 1) != 1 ) return(1); else { lseek(fd, -1, SEEK_CUR); return(0); } } void main() { FILE *fp; /* Used to access meta data */ int fd; /* Used to access user data */ /* ---------------------------------------------------------------- Variables to hold the description of the data - max 10 fields ---------------------------------------------------------------- */ struct DataDescription DataDes[10]; /* Holds data descriptions for upto 10 fields */ int n_fields; /* Actual # fields */ /* ------------------------------------------------------ Variables to hold the data - max 10 fields.... ------------------------------------------------------ */ char c_buffer[10][100]; /* For character data */ int i_buffer[10]; /* For integer data */ double d_buffer[10]; int i, j; int found; printf("Program for searching a mini database:\n"); /* ============================= Read in meta information ============================= */ fp = fopen("db-description", "r"); n_fields = 0; while ( fscanf(fp, "%s %c %d", DataDes[n_fields].fieldname, &DataDes[n_fields].fieldtype, &DataDes[n_fields].fieldsize) > 0 ) n_fields++; /* --- Prints meta information --- */ printf("\nThe database consists of these fields:\n"); for (i = 0; i < n_fields; i++) printf("Index %d: Fieldname `%s',\ttype = %c,\tsize = %d\n", i, DataDes[i].fieldname, DataDes[i].fieldtype, DataDes[i].fieldsize); printf("\n\n"); /* --- Open database file --- */ fd = open("db-data", O_RDONLY); /* --- Print content of the database file --- */ printf("\nThe database content is:\n"); while ( ! eof(fd) ) { /* ------------------ Read next record ------------------ */ for (j = 0; j < n_fields; j++) { if ( DataDes[j].fieldtype == 'I' ) read(fd, &i_buffer[j], DataDes[j].fieldsize); if ( DataDes[j].fieldtype == 'F' ) read(fd, &d_buffer[j], DataDes[j].fieldsize); if ( DataDes[j].fieldtype == 'C' ) read(fd, &c_buffer[j], DataDes[j].fieldsize); } double d; /* ------------------ Print it... ------------------ */ for (j = 0; j < n_fields; j++) { if ( DataDes[j].fieldtype == 'I' ) printf("%d ", i_buffer[j]); if ( DataDes[j].fieldtype == 'F' ) d = d_buffer[j]; printf("%lf ", d); if ( DataDes[j].fieldtype == 'C' ) printf("%s ", c_buffer[j]); } printf("\n"); } printf("\n"); printf("\n"); } Post edits output: 16777216 0.000000 107245694331284094976.000000 107245694331284094976.000000 Pi 33554432 107245694331284094976.000000 2954938175610156848888276006519501238173891974277081114627768841840801736306392481516295906896346039950625609765296207682724801406770458881439696544971142710292689518104183685723154223544599940711614138798312668264956190761622328617992192.000000 2954938175610156848888276006519501238173891974277081114627768841840801736306392481516295906896346039950625609765296207682724801406770458881439696544971142710292689518104183685723154223544599940711614138798312668264956190761622328617992192.000000 Secret Key 50331648 2954938175610156848888276006519501238173891974277081114627768841840801736306392481516295906896346039950625609765296207682724801406770458881439696544971142710292689518104183685723154223544599940711614138798312668264956190761622328617992192.000000 -0.000000 -0.000000 The number E Expected Output: 3 rows of data ending with the number "e = 2.18281828" To reproduce the problem, the following two files need to be in the same directory as the lookup-data.c file: - db-data - db-description

  • Roughly, what percentage of users will reach changed DNS?

    - by user3722246
If my main server go offline for some reason for +1hrs, I'm planning to make a DNS change so users will access secondary server. It is not a perfect solution to decrease downtime but it is simple and would work. I'm not sure about its usefulness. So I have a question. If I'm going to make a DNS change to an A record for my domain (changing from one IP to another), what percentage of users are moved over to the new info in 2hrs? (roughly) I know this is a vague question and there are lots of variables but any input is welcomed because I had painful downtime experiences and don't want to experience it again. Thanks

  • Windows hangs on startup

    - by Mr_Chimp
I got in to work this week to find four windows xp computers all having the same problem - they are all hanging on the windows loading screen (the one with the logo and the green progress bar). The only thing I could think that would cause this to happen on all of them at the same time are bad windows updates. Can anyone shed some light? Edit: some further details: CAN get to safe mode. System restore DOESN'T help. HDDs are ok. All were working fine last week.

  • Has Javascript developed beyond what it was originally designed to do?

    - by Elliot Bonneville
I've been talking with a friend about the purpose of Javascript, when and how it should be used, etc. He quoted that: JavaScript was designed to add interactivity to HTML pages [...] JavaScript gives HTML designers a programming tool HTML authors are normally not programmers, but JavaScript is a scripting language with a very simple syntax! Almost anyone can put small "snippets" of code into their HTML pages JavaScript can react to events A JavaScript can be set to execute when something happens, like when a page has finished loading or when a user clicks on an HTML element JavaScript can read and write HTML elements A JavaScript can read and change the content of an HTML element JavaScript can be used to validate data A JavaScript can be used to validate form data before it is submitted to a server. This saves the server from extra processing JavaScript can be used to detect the visitor's browser - A JavaScript can be used to detect the visitor's browser, and - depending on the browser - load another page specifically designed for that browser. JavaScript can be used to create cookies - A JavaScript can be used to store and retrieve information on the visitor's computer. However, it seems like Javascript's getting used to do a lot more than these days. My friend also advocates against using Javascript's OOP functionality, claiming that "you shouldn't be processing data, merely validating." Is Javascript really limited to validating data and making flashy graphics on a web page? He goes on to claim "you shouldn't be attempting to access databases through javascript" and also says " in general you don't want to be doing your heavy lifting in javascript". I can't say I agree with his opinion, but I'd like to get some more input on this. So, my question: Has Javascript evolved from the definition above to something more powerful, has the way we use it changed, or am I just plain wrong? While I realize this is a subjective question, I can't find any more information on it, so a few links would be good, if nothing else. I'm not looking for a debate, just an answer.

  • DirectX11 CreateWICTextureFromMemory Using PNG

    - by seethru
I've currently got textures loading using CreateWICTextureFromFile however I'd like a little more control over it, and I'd like to store images in their byte form in a resource loader. Below is just two sets of test code that return two separate results and I'm looking for any insight into a possible solution. ID3D11ShaderResourceView* srv; std::basic_ifstream<unsigned char> file("image.png", std::ios::binary); file.seekg(0,std::ios::end); int length = file.tellg(); file.seekg(0,std::ios::beg); unsigned char* buffer = new unsigned char[length]; file.read(&buffer[0],length); file.close(); HRESULT hr; hr = DirectX::CreateWICTextureFromMemory(_D3D->GetDevice(), _D3D->GetDeviceContext(), &buffer[0], sizeof(buffer), nullptr, &srv, NULL); As a return for the above code I get Component not found. std::ifstream file; ID3D11ShaderResourceView* srv; file.open("../Assets/Textures/osg.png", std::ios::binary); file.seekg(0,std::ios::end); int length = file.tellg(); file.seekg(0,std::ios::beg); std::vector<char> buffer(length); file.read(&buffer[0],length); file.close(); HRESULT hr; hr = DirectX::CreateWICTextureFromMemory(_D3D->GetDevice(), _D3D->GetDeviceContext(), (const uint8_t*)&buffer[0], sizeof(buffer), nullptr, &srv, NULL); The above code returns that the image format is unknown. I'm clearly doing something wrong here, any help is greatly appreciated. Tried finding anything even similar on stackoverflow, and google to no avail.

  • WiX 3 Tutorial: Custom EULA License and MSI localization

    - by Mladen Prajdic
In this part of the ongoing Wix tutorial series we’ll take a look at how to localize your MSI into different languages. We’re still the mighty SuperForm: Program that takes care of all your label color needs. :) Localizing the MSI With WiX 3.0 localizing an MSI is pretty much a simple and straightforward process. First let look at the WiX project Properties->Build. There you can see "Cultures to build" textbox. Put specific cultures to build into the testbox or leave it empty to build all of them. Cultures have to be in correct culture format like en-US, en-GB or de-DE. Next we have to tell WiX which cultures we actually have in our project. Take a look at the first post in the series about Solution/Project structure and look at the Lang directory in the project structure picture. There we have de-de and en-us subfolders each with its own localized stuff. In the subfolders pay attention to the WXL files Loc_de-de.wxl and Loc_en-us.wxl. Each one has a <String Id="LANG"> under the WixLocalization root node. By including the string with id LANG we tell WiX we want that culture built. For English we have <String Id="LANG">1033</String>, for German <String Id="LANG">1031</String> in Loc_de-de.wxl and for French we’d have to create another file Loc_fr-FR.wxl and put <String Id="LANG">1036</String>. WXL files are localization files. Any string we want to localize we have to put in there. To reference it we use loc keyword like this: !(loc.IdOfTheVariable) => !(loc.MustCloseSuperForm) This is our Loc_en-us.wxl. Note that German wxl has an identical structure but values are in German. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><WixLocalization Culture="en-us" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/2006/localization" Codepage="1252"> <String Id="LANG">1033</String> <String Id="ProductName">SuperForm</String> <String Id="LicenseRtf" Overridable="yes">\Lang\en-us\EULA_en-us.rtf</String> <String Id="ManufacturerName">My Company Name</String> <String Id="AppNotSupported">This application is is not supported on your current OS. Minimal OS supported is Windows XP SP2</String> <String Id="DotNetFrameworkNeeded">.NET Framework 3.5 is required. Please install the .NET Framework then run this installer again.</String> <String Id="MustCloseSuperForm">Must close SuperForm!</String> <String Id="SuperFormNewerVersionInstalled">A newer version of !(loc.ProductName) is already installed.</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialog_Title">!(loc.ProductName) setup</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialogControls_Title">!(loc.ProductName) Product check</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialogControls_Description">Plese Enter following information to perform the licence check.</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialogControls_FullName">Full Name:</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialogControls_Organization">Organization:</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialogControls_ProductKey">Product Key:</String> <String Id="ProductKeyCheckDialogControls_InvalidProductKey">The product key you entered is invalid. Please call user support.</String> </WixLocalization>   As you can see from the file we can use localization variables in other variables like we do for SuperFormNewerVersionInstalled string. ProductKeyCheckDialog* strings are to localize a custom dialog for Product key check which we’ll look at in the next post. Built in dialog text localization Under the de-de folder there’s also the WixUI_de-de.wxl file. This files contains German translations of all texts that are in WiX built in dialogs. It can be downloaded from WiX 3.0.5419.0 Source Forge site. Download the wix3-sources.zip and go to \src\ext\UIExtension\wixlib. There you’ll find already translated all WiX texts in 12 Languages. Localizing the custom EULA license Here it gets ugly. We can override the default EULA license easily by overriding WixUILicenseRtf WiX variable like this: <WixVariable Id="WixUILicenseRtf" Value="License.rtf" /> where License.rtf is the name of your custom EULA license file. The downside of this method is that you can only have one license file which means no localization for it. That’s why we need to make a workaround. License is checked on a dialog name LicenseAgreementDialog. What we have to do is overwrite that dialog and insert the functionality for localization. This is a code for LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten.wxs, an overwritten LicenseAgreementDialog that supports localization. LicenseAcceptedOverwritten replaces the LicenseAccepted built in variable. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?><Wix xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/2006/wi"> <Fragment> <UI> <Dialog Id="LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten" Width="370" Height="270" Title="!(loc.LicenseAgreementDlg_Title)"> <Control Id="LicenseAcceptedOverwrittenCheckBox" Type="CheckBox" X="20" Y="207" Width="330" Height="18" CheckBoxValue="1" Property="LicenseAcceptedOverwritten" Text="!(loc.LicenseAgreementDlgLicenseAcceptedCheckBox)" /> <Control Id="Back" Type="PushButton" X="180" Y="243" Width="56" Height="17" Text="!(loc.WixUIBack)" /> <Control Id="Next" Type="PushButton" X="236" Y="243" Width="56" Height="17" Default="yes" Text="!(loc.WixUINext)"> <Publish Event="SpawnWaitDialog" Value="WaitForCostingDlg">CostingComplete = 1</Publish> <Condition Action="disable"> <![CDATA[ LicenseAcceptedOverwritten <> "1" ]]> </Condition> <Condition Action="enable">LicenseAcceptedOverwritten = "1"</Condition> </Control> <Control Id="Cancel" Type="PushButton" X="304" Y="243" Width="56" Height="17" Cancel="yes" Text="!(loc.WixUICancel)"> <Publish Event="SpawnDialog" Value="CancelDlg">1</Publish> </Control> <Control Id="BannerBitmap" Type="Bitmap" X="0" Y="0" Width="370" Height="44" TabSkip="no" Text="!(loc.LicenseAgreementDlgBannerBitmap)" /> <Control Id="LicenseText" Type="ScrollableText" X="20" Y="60" Width="330" Height="140" Sunken="yes" TabSkip="no"> <!-- This is original line --> <!--<Text SourceFile="!(wix.WixUILicenseRtf=$(var.LicenseRtf))" />--> <!-- To enable EULA localization we change it to this --> <Text SourceFile="$(var.ProjectDir)\!(loc.LicenseRtf)" /> <!-- In each of localization files (wxl) put line like this: <String Id="LicenseRtf" Overridable="yes">\Lang\en-us\EULA_en-us.rtf</String>--> </Control> <Control Id="Print" Type="PushButton" X="112" Y="243" Width="56" Height="17" Text="!(loc.WixUIPrint)"> <Publish Event="DoAction" Value="WixUIPrintEula">1</Publish> </Control> <Control Id="BannerLine" Type="Line" X="0" Y="44" Width="370" Height="0" /> <Control Id="BottomLine" Type="Line" X="0" Y="234" Width="370" Height="0" /> <Control Id="Description" Type="Text" X="25" Y="23" Width="340" Height="15" Transparent="yes" NoPrefix="yes" Text="!(loc.LicenseAgreementDlgDescription)" /> <Control Id="Title" Type="Text" X="15" Y="6" Width="200" Height="15" Transparent="yes" NoPrefix="yes" Text="!(loc.LicenseAgreementDlgTitle)" /> </Dialog> </UI> </Fragment></Wix>   Look at the Control with Id "LicenseText” and read the comments. We’ve changed the original license text source to "$(var.ProjectDir)\!(loc.LicenseRtf)". var.ProjectDir is the directory of the project file. The !(loc.LicenseRtf) is where the magic happens. Scroll up and take a look at the wxl localization file example. We have the LicenseRtf declared there and it’s been made overridable so developers can change it if they want. The value of the LicenseRtf is the path to our localized EULA relative to the WiX project directory. With little hacking we’ve achieved a fully localizable installer package.   The final step is to insert the extended LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten license dialog into the installer GUI chain. This is how it’s done under the <UI> node of course.   <UI> <!-- code to be discussed in later posts –> <!-- BEGIN UI LOGIC FOR CLEAN INSTALLER --> <Publish Dialog="WelcomeDlg" Control="Next" Event="NewDialog" Value="LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten">1</Publish> <Publish Dialog="LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten" Control="Back" Event="NewDialog" Value="WelcomeDlg">1</Publish> <Publish Dialog="LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten" Control="Next" Event="NewDialog" Value="ProductKeyCheckDialog">LicenseAcceptedOverwritten = "1" AND NOT OLDER_VERSION_FOUND</Publish> <Publish Dialog="InstallDirDlg" Control="Back" Event="NewDialog" Value="ProductKeyCheckDialog">1</Publish> <!-- END UI LOGIC FOR CLEAN INSTALLER –> <!-- code to be discussed in later posts --></UI> For a thing that should be simple for the end developer to do, localization can be a bit advanced for the novice WiXer. Hope this post makes the journey easier and that next versions of WiX improve this process. • Comments syntax for Idoc Script

    - by kyle.hatlestad
Maybe this is widely known and I'm late to the party, but I just ran across the syntax for making comments in Idoc Script. It's been something I've been hoping to see for a long time. And it looks like it quietly snuck into the 10gR3 release. So for comments in Idoc Script, you simply [[% surround your comments in these symbols. %]] They can be on the same line or span multiple lines. If you look in the documentation, it still mentions making comments using the syntax. Well, that's certainly not an ideal approach. You're stuffing your comment into an actual variable, it's taking up memory, and you have to watch double-quotes in your comment. A perhaps better way in the old method is to start with my comments . Still not great, but now you're not assigning something to a variable and worrying about quotes. Unfortunately, this syntax only works in places that use the Idoc format. It can't be used in Idoc files that get indexed (.hcsp & .hcsf) and use the <!--$...--> format. For those, you'll need to continue using the older methods. While on the topic, I thought I would highlight a great plug-in to Notepad++ that Arnoud Koot here at Oracle wrote for Idoc Script. It does script highlighting as well as type-ahead/auto-completion for common variables, functions, and services. For some reason, I can never seem to remember if it's DOC_INFO_LATESTRELEASE or DOC_INFO_LATEST_RELEASE, so this certainly comes in handy. I've updated his plug-in to use this new comments syntax. You can download a copy of the plug-in here which includes installation instructions.

  • Real Excel Templates I

    - by Tim Dexter
As promised, I'm starting to document the new Excel templates that I teased you all with a few weeks back. Leslie is buried in 11g documentation and will not get to officially documenting the templates for a while. I'll do my best to be professional and not ramble on about this and that, although the weather here has finally turned and its 'scorchio' here in Colorado today. Maybe our stand of Aspen will finally come into leaf ... but I digress. Preamble These templates are not actually that new, I helped in a small way to develop them a few years back with Excel 'meistress' Shirley for a company that was trying to use the Report Manager(RR) Excel FSG outputs under EBS 12. The functionality they needed was just not there in the RR FSG templates, the templates are actually XSL that is created from the the RR Excel template builder and fed to BIP for processing. Think of Excel from our RTF templates and you'll be there ie not really Excel but HTML masquerading as Excel. Although still under controlled release in EBS they have now made their way to the standlone release and are willing to share their Excel goodness. You get everything you have with hte Excel Analyzer Excel templates plus so much more. Therein lies a question, what will happen to the Analyzer templates? My understanding is that both will come together into a single Excel template format some time in the post-11g release world. The new XLSX format for Exce 2007/10 is also in the mix too so watch this space. What more do these templates offer? Well, you can structure data in the Excel output. Similar to RTF templates you can create sheets of data that have master-detail n relationships. Although the analyzer templates can do this, you have to get into macros whereas BIP will do this all for you. You can also use native XSL functions in your data to manipulate it prior to rendering. BP functions are not currently supported. The most impressive, for me at least, is the sheet 'bursting'. You can split your hierarchical data across multiple sheets and dynamically name those sheets. Finally, you of course, still get all the native Excel functionality. Pre-reqs You must be on 10.1.3.4.1 plus the latest rollup patch, 9546699. You can patch upa BIP instance running with OBIEE, no problem You need Excel 2000 or above to build the templates Some patience - there is no Excel template builder for these new templates. So its all going to have to be done by hand. Its not that tough but can get a little 'fiddly'. You can not test the template from Excel , it has to be deployed and then run. Limitations The new templates are definitely superior to the Analyzer templates but there are a few limitations. Re-grouping is not supported. You can only follow a data hierarchy not bend it to your will unless you want to get into macros. No support for BIP functions. The templates support native XSL functions only. No template builder Getting Started The templates make the use of named cells and groups of cells to allow BIP to find the insertion point for data points. It also uses a hidden sheet to store calculation mappings from named cells to XML data elements. To start with, in the great BIP tradition, we need some sample XML data. Becasue I wanted to show the master-detail output we need some hierarchical data. If you have not yet gotten into the data templates, now is a good time, I wrote a post a while back starting from the simple to more complex. They generate ideal data sets for these templates. Im working with the following data set: <EMPLOYEES> <LIST_G_DEPT> <G_DEPT> <DEPARTMENT_ID>10</DEPARTMENT_ID> <DEPARTMENT_NAME>Administration</DEPARTMENT_NAME> <LIST_G_EMP> <G_EMP> <EMPLOYEE_ID>200</EMPLOYEE_ID> <EMP_NAME>Jennifer Whalen</EMP_NAME> <EMAIL>JWHALEN</EMAIL> <PHONE_NUMBER>515.123.4444</PHONE_NUMBER> <HIRE_DATE>1987-09-17T00:00:00.000-06:00</HIRE_DATE> <SALARY>4400</SALARY> </G_EMP> </LIST_G_EMP> <TOTAL_EMPS>1</TOTAL_EMPS> <TOTAL_SALARY>4400</TOTAL_SALARY> <AVG_SALARY>4400</AVG_SALARY> <MAX_SALARY>4400</MAX_SALARY> <MIN_SALARY>4400</MIN_SALARY> </G_DEPT> ... <LIST_G_DEPT> <EMPLOYEES> Simple enough to follow and bread and butter stuff for an RTF template. Building the Template For an Excel template we need to start by thinking about how we want to render the data. Come up with a sample output in Excel. Its all dummy data, nothing marked up yet with one row of data for each level. I have the department name and then a repeating row for the employees. You can apply Excel formatting to the layout. The total is going to be derived from a data element. We'll get to Excel functions later. Marking Up Cells Next we need to start marking up the cells with custom names to map them to data elements. The cell names need to follow a specific format: For data grouping, XDO_GROUP_?group_name? For data elements, XDO_?element_name? Notice the question mark delimter, the group_name and element_name are case sensitive. The next step is to find how to name cells; the easiest method is to highlight the cell and then type in the name. You can also find the Name Manager dialog. I use 2007 and its available on the ribbon under the Formulas section Go thorugh the process of naming all the cells for the element values you have. Using my data set from above. You should end up with something like this in your 'Name Manager' dialog. You can update any mistakes you might have made through this dialog. Creating Groups In the image above you can see there are a couple of named group cells. To create these its a simple case of highlighting the cells that make up the group and then naming them. For the EMP group, highlight the employee row and then type in the name, XDO_GROUP?G_EMP? Notice the 10,000 total is outside of the G_EMP group. Its actually named, XDO_?TOTAL_SALARY?, a query calculated value. For the department group, we need to include the department name cell and the sub EMP grouping and name it, XDO_GROUP?G_DEPT? Notice, the 10,000 total is included in the G_DEPT group. This will ensure it repeats at the department level. Lastly, we do need to include a special sheet in the workbook. We will not have anything meaningful in there for now, but it needs to be present. Create a new sheet and name it XDO_METADATA. The name is important as the BIP rendering engine will looking for it. For our current example we do not need anything other than the required stuff in our XDO_METADATA sheet but, it must be present. Easy enough to hide it. Here's what I have: The only cell that is important is the 'Data Constraints:' cell. The rest is optional. To save curious users getting distracted, hide the metadata sheet. Deploying & Running Templates We should now have a usable Excel template. Loading it into a report is easy enough using the browser UI, just like an RTF template. Set the template type to Excel. You will now be able to run the report and hopefully get something like this. You will not get the red highlighting, thats just some conditional formatting I added to the template using Excel functionality. Your dates are probably going to look raw too. I got around this for now using an Excel function on the cell: =--REPLACE(SUBSTITUTE(E8,"T"," "),LEN(E8)-6,6,"") Google to the rescue on that one. Try some other stuff out. To avoid constantly loading the template through the UI. If you have BIP running locally or you can access the reports repository, once you have loaded the template the first time. Just save the template directly into the report folder. I have put together a sample report using a sample data set, available here. Just drop the xml data file, EmpbyDeptExcelData.xml into 'demo files' folder and you should be good to go. Thats the basics, next we'll start using some XSL functions in the template and move onto the 'bursting' across sheets.
