  • How to make Delphi Prism indexed properties visible to C# when properties are not default

    I have several Delphi Prism classes with indexed properties that I use a lot on my C# web applications (we are migrating a big Delphi Win32 system to ASP.Net). My problem is that it seems that C# can't see the indexed properties if they aren't the default properties of their classes. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm completely lost. I know that this question looks a lot like a bug report, but I need to know if someone else knows how to solve this before I report a bug. If I have a class like this: TMyClass = public class private ... method get_IndexedBool(index: Integer): boolean; method set_IndexedBool(index: Integer; value: boolean); public property IndexedBool[index: Integer]: boolean read get_IndexedBool write set_IndexedBool; default; // make IndexedBool the default property end; I can use this class in C# like this: var myObj = new TMyClass(); myObj[0] = true; However, if TMyClass is defined like this: TMyClass = public class private ... method get_IndexedBool(index: Integer): boolean; method set_IndexedBool(index: Integer; value: boolean); public property IndexedBool[index: Integer]: boolean read get_IndexedBool write set_IndexedBool; // IndexedBool is not the default property anymore end; Then the IndexedBool property becomes invisible in C#. The only way I can use it is doing this: var myObj = new TMyClass(); myObj.set_IndexedBool(0, true); I don't know if I'm missing something, but I can't see the IndexedBool property if I remove the default in the property declaration. Besides that, I'm pretty sure that it is wrong to have direct access to a private method of a class instance. Any ideas?

  • Mouse settings/properties dialog box won't open in Windows 7

    Hi, I have a problem trying to open my computer's mouse settings by either going to the command prompt and typing, 'control mouse', 'main.cpl' (as researched online) or simply by trying to go to the Control Panel and clicking on 'Mouse' under Hardware and Sound section. I have also tried running cmd as Administrator and trying the above commands but that is of no help. Lastly, if I search for 'mouse' and click 'Mouse' from the Windows search bar, that doesn't work either. In the past I had bought and installed Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 software and have just now bought and installed HP's Wireless Comfort Mobile mouse. Any help in this regard is highly recommended. I won't be able to restore or reinstall my laptop since it's a heavy use machine. Thanks! Yasser

  • Use of properties vs backing-field inside owner class

    I love auto-implemented properties in C# but lately there's been this elephant standing in my cubicle and I don't know what to do with him. If I use auto-implemented properties (hereafter "aip") then I no longer have a private backing field to use internally. This is fine because the aip has no side-effects. But what if later on I need to add some extra processing in the get or set? Now I need to create a backing-field so I can expand my getters and setters. This is fine for external code using the class, because they won't notice the difference. But now all of the internal references to the aip are going to invoke these side-effects when they access the property. Now all internal access to the once aip must be refactored to use the backing-field. So my question is, what do most of you do? Do you use auto-implemented properties or do you prefer to always use a backing-field? What do you think about properties with side-effects?

I am reading the properties before creating the Preferences in OnCreate().   • SQLAuthority News – Wireless Router Security and Attached Devices – Complex Password

    In the last four days (April 21-24), I have received calls from friends who told me that they have got strange emails from me. To my surprise, I did not send them any emails. I was not worried until my wife complained that she was not able to find one of the very important folders containing our daughter’s photo that is located in our shared drive. This was alarming in my par, so I started a search around my computer’s folders. Again, please note that I am by no means a security expert. I checked my entire computer with virus and spyware, and strangely, there I found nothing. I tried to think what can cause this happening. I suddenly realized that there was a power outage in my area for about two hours during the days I have mentioned. Back then, my wireless router needed to be reset, and so I did. I had set up my WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] very well. My key was very simple ( ‘SQLAuthority1′), and I never thought of changing it. (It is now replaced with a very complex one). While checking the Attached Devices, I found out that there was another very strange computer name and IP attached to my network. And so as soon as I found out that there is strange device attached to my computer, I shutdown my local network. Afterwards, I reconfigured my wireless router with a more complex security key. Since I created the complex password, I noticed that the user is no more connecting to my machine. Subsequently, I figured out that I can also set up Access Control List. I added my networked computer to that list as well. When I tried to connect from an external laptop which was not in the list but with a valid security key, I was not able to access the network, neither able to connect to it. I wasn’t also able to connect using a remote desktop, so I think it was good. If you have received any nasty emails from me (from my gmail account) during the afore-mentioned days, I want to apologize. I am already paying for my negligence of not putting a complex password; by way of losing the important photos of my daughter. I have already checked with my client, whose password I saved in SSMS, so there was no issue at all. In fact, I have decided to never leave any saved password of production server in my SSMS. However, I believe that safety is an illusion of many times. I need your help and advice if there is anymore I can do to stop unauthorized access. I am seeking advice and help through your comments.   • Delayed "rendering" of WPF/Silverlight Dependency Properties?

    Is there a way to know the first time a Dependency Property is accessed through XAML binding so I can actually "render" the value of the property when needed? I have an object (class derived from Control) that has several PointCollection Dependency Properties that may contain 100's or 1000's of points. Each property may arrange the points differently for use in different types shapes (Polyline, Polygon, etc - its more complicated then this, but you get the idea). Via a Template different XAML objects use TemplateBinding to access these properties. Since my object uses a Template I never know what XAML shapes may be in use for my object - so I never know what Properties they may or may not bind to. I'd like to only fill-in these PointCollections when they are actually needed. Normally in .NET I'd but some logic in the Property's getter, but these are bypassed by XAML data binding. I need a WPF AND Silverlight compatible solution. I'd love a solution that avoids any additional complexities for the users of my object.

  • No Properties path set - looking in classpath

    For whatever reason my project has decided it cannot find my transaction.properties file. It is located in the : src/main/resource However it looks in looks in target/classes/ The file also resides yet throws the errors(see below) These all seem to stem from the whole in the init of code I have no acces to which is always fun.     Apple, for memory management issues, recommend defining outlets on properties, not in the attribute declaration. But, as far as I know, declaring properties exposes the class to external classes, so this could be dangerous. On UIViewController we have the main view definition and the logic, so MVC is slightly cheated in this cases. What is the beteer approach, Apples's recommendation for memory-management or armored classes?

  • Passing arguments between classes - use public properties or pass a properties class as argument?

    So let's assume I have a class named ABC that will have a list of Point objects. I need to make some drawing logic with them. Each one of those Point objects will have a Draw() method that will be called by the ABC class. The Draw() method code will need info from ABC class. I can only see two ways to make them have this info: Having Abc class make public some properties that would allow draw() to make its decisions. Having Abc class pass to draw() a class full of properties. The properties in both cases would be the same, my question is what is preferred in this case. Maybe the second approach is more flexible? Maybe not? I don't see here a clear winner, but that sure has more to do with my inexperience than any other thing. If there are other good approaches, feel free to share them. Here are both cases: class Abc1 { public property a; public property b; public property c; ... public property z; public void method1(); ... public void methodn(); } and here is approach 2: class Abc2 { //here we make take down all properties public void method1(); ... public void methodn(); } class Abc2MethodArgs { //and we put them here. this class will be passed as argument to //Point's draw() method! public property a; public property b; public property c; ... public property z; } Also, if there are any "formal" names for these two approaches, I'd like to know them so I can better choose the tags/thread name, so it's more useful for searching purposes. Is it in the root (ie "src") or within a package... And how do I access this file, if it is placed in "src"- my code will be within a package (and the package's directory will be under src)- so how do I access the properties file, which is in "src", from a class within a package?

    I have a j2ee app using Struts2. I have a gloabl properties file which is declared in struts.properties which resides in WEB-INF/classes. It has the following setting: struts.custom.i18n.resources=mypropertyfile mypropertyfile also resides in WEB-INF/classes Say for example it contains the following: pdf.test.title=PDF Test then on jsp I use the following to make use of the property file <s:text name="pdf.test.title"/> This setup was working on Sun App server 8.2 but is not working on GlassFish App Server (I see pdf.test.title on the browser rather than PDF Test). I do not have access to GlassFish App server to try and tweak the setting to make it work. So I want to make changes to the code and see if that will help. My question is: What are some other ways to use properties file in a J2EE app? (using Struts2 or not). I'm also open to ways suggested to make changes on glassfish to make this work? Build/version #'s GlassFish = 9.1_02 (build b04-fcs) Struts2 = 2.0.6 JRE6

I have these (simplified) classes: public enum PersonType { Student, Professor, Employee } class Person { public string Name { get; set; } public PersonType Type { get; set; } } class Student : Person { public string MatriculationNumber { get; set; } } class Subject { public string Name { get; set; } public int WeeklyHours { get; set; } } class Professor : Person { public List<Subject> Subjects { get; set; } } Now I want to get the objects where the Property values differ: List<Person> oldPersonList = ... List<Person> newPersonList = ... List<Difference> = GetDifferences(oldPersonList, newPersonList); public List<Difference> GetDifferences(List<Person> oldP, List<Person> newP) { //how to check the properties without casting and checking //for each type and individual property?? //can this be done with Reflection even in Lists?? } In the end I would like to have a list of Differences like this: class Difference { public List<string> ChangedProperties { get; set; } public Person NewPerson { get; set; } public Person OldPerson { get; set; } } The ChangedProperties should contain the name of the changed properties.

  • Properties in User-Control Ctor are duplicated to the hosting form

    An annoying behavior of Visual Studio (2008)'s designer is to duplicate any property of a control, which is set inside the control's constructor code to the InitializeComponent() method of the hosting form. For example, if I create a new user control and write the following line in its Ctor: this.Text = "Hard Coded Name"; then this same line will appear inside the InitializeComponent() method of any form hosting this control. As long as it's about this kind of properties, it's only annoying because if I were to change the Text property inside the control to: "Better Hard Coded Name", I'd have to go over all hosting controls and manually change the Text value over there too. The real problem is with ".Add(something)" properties - like if my control is a TableLayoutPanel and I want it to have a certain number of columns and rows. Any col or row style set inside the user control will be duplicated in the hosting form and we end up with having twice as wanted. The count (e.g. ColumnCount) will be as planned but if I were to add cols later on, things will get messy. Is there a way to signal VS's designer not to duplicate properties? What can I do to avoid this behavior?

  • Why C# doesn't implement indexed properties ?

    I know, I know... Eric Lippert's answer to this kind of question is usually something like "because it wasn't worth the cost of designing, implementing, testing and documenting it". But still, I'd like a better explanation... I was reading this blog post about new C# 4 features, and in the section about COM Interop, the following part caught my attention : By the way, this code uses one more new feature: indexed properties (take a closer look at those square brackets after Range.) But this feature is available only for COM interop; you cannot create your own indexed properties in C# 4.0. OK, but why ? I already knew and regretted that it wasn't possible to create indexed properties in C#, but this sentence made me think again about it. I can see several good reasons to implement it : the CLR supports it (for instance, PropertyInfo.GetValue has an index parameter), so it's a pity we can't take advantage of it in C# it is supported for COM interop, as shown in the article (using dynamic dispatch) it is implemented in VB.NET it is already possible to create indexers, i.e. to apply an index to the object itself, so it would probably be no big deal to extend the idea to properties, keeping the same syntax and just replacing this with a property name It would allow to write that kind of things : public class Foo { private string[] _values = new string[3]; public string Values[int index] { get { return _values[index]; } set { _values[index] = value; } } } Currently the only workaround that I know is to create an inner class (ValuesCollection for instance) that implements an indexer, and change the Values property so that it returns an instance of that inner class. This is very easy to do, but annoying... So perhaps the compiler could do it for us ! An option would be to generate an inner class that implements the indexer, and expose it through a public generic interface : // interface defined in the namespace System public interface IIndexer<TIndex, TValue> { TValue this[TIndex index] { get; set; } } public class Foo { private string[] _values = new string[3]; private class <>c__DisplayClass1 : IIndexer<int, string> { private Foo _foo; public <>c__DisplayClass1(Foo foo) { _foo = foo; } public string this[int index] { get { return _foo._values[index]; } set { _foo._values[index] = value; } } } private IIndexer<int, string> <>f__valuesIndexer; public IIndexer<int, string> Values { get { if (<>f__valuesIndexer == null) <>f__valuesIndexer = new <>c__DisplayClass1(this); return <>f__valuesIndexer; } } } But of course, in that case the property would actually return a IIndexer<int, string>, and wouldn't really be an indexed property... It would be better to generate a real CLR indexed property. What do you think ? Would you like to see this feature in C# ? If not, why ?

  • How to force VS to react on a changing of an attached property in design time?

    Imagine, we have a wpf class library with a window1.xaml and a resource dictionary res.xaml defined in it. I know how to use styles that defined in the res.xaml for the controls that defined into the window: <Window x:Class="...Window1"> <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="res.xaml"/> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> <\Window.Resources> </Window> So we can use the dictionary's styles for all elements into the window (except the window element... I don't know how to set the style from the res.xaml for the window :( ). I saw the article where describes how to create and use attached property to add resource dictionaries to a FrameworkElement.Resources.MergedDictionaries list. It's good! We can do the same as we done in the example above but we can use the window style now. It looks like this: <Window x:Class="...Window1" xmlns: resources="..." resources:SharedResources.MergedDictionaries="res.xaml"> </Window> That's good but VS2008 cannot recognize resources from res.xaml in design time. So we have a sad situation: all styles from res.xaml are available in run-time but in the design-time VS cannot display the window (it can't find the mentioned styles). Does anybody know how to fix this situation?
