    I am trying to identify all the <UL> that contain a menu list by defining the ID like this: <ul id="menutop"> <li><a href="#">item1</a></li> <li><a href="#">item2</a></li> <li><a href="#">item3</a></li> </ul> <ul id="menumain"> <li><a href="#">item1</a></li> <li><a href="#">item2</a></li> <li><a href="#">item3</a></li> </ul> As per what I understand, I could use: ul[id|='menu']>li>a {color:#f00;} (<a> direct child of a <li> direct child of an <ul> that has its id starting with menu) But it doesn't work. Searching a bit brought me this [question][1] which suggests that ID is an attribute and not a property so I don't get why it isn't working. What am I doing wrong?   • Wondering where to begin

    Hello all. After being interested for years and years (and years), I have finally decided to start learning how to create software and web applications. Base on recommendations, I have started with learning the basics of web design first (which I am almost done with) and then will move on to the meat of my process: learning the languages. Problem is, I don't know where to start :/ PHP, Ruby, Perl...and where would SQL, JavaScript and .NET fit into the mix? I am assuming they build on each other/play off of each other somewhat so following some sort of 'order' will make the process more logical and digestible. You're probably thinking, "Just go to school for computer engineering, duh!" But I already have a degree and don't plan on going back to school. I believe I have an adequate aptitude for this sort of thing, and although it will be challenging, with the support of the community I know I can do it on my own.   • Begin Viewing Query Results Before Query Ends

    OK, so say I have a table with 500K rows, then I ad-hoc query with unsupported indexing which requires a full table scan. I would like to immediately view the first rows returned while the full table scan continues. Then I want to scroll thru the next results. In the meantime, I would like to display the progress of the table scan, example: "SEARCHING.. FOUND 23 OF 500,000 ROWS SO FAR". If I scroll too far ahead, I want to display a message like: "REACHED LAST ROW IN LOOK-AHEAD BUFFER.. QUERY HAS NOT COMPLETED".. Can this be done? Maybe like: spawn/exec, declare scroll cursor, open, fetch, etc.?

  • Starting Game Programming in C++, where to begin for optimal cross-platform development?

    I wish to begin learning game development in C++. I have knowledge in syntax and the console using Visual C++ 2010, however I want to begin programming. My only problem is that I want to be able to support many platforms including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. As I get better, I also hope I can submit games to XBLIG (or XBLA) and Steam, and even the Google Play Store (But that would take some porting and major redesign of controls). I have looked into c++ and SDL but I have no idea how to get started. I have Visual C++ 2010 installed and I hope I can still use that as other C++ IDEs are quit outdated. Because I want to stick with Visual C++ and SDL (unless there is a better library than SDL), there is not much room for debate but rather how to create projects to support cross-platform development.

  • Package management fails in update-manager with gzip problems and compilation errors. U12.04LTS

    Similar to but not the same as Package management system corrupted. Cannot install or remove packages. U12.04LTS (an earlier problem) with package management system. Followed all of L. D. James suggestions in his answer to no avail. This time as well as the gzip error I am also getting compilation errors. The difference may be due to a lack of compilation in my earlier problem so it may be the same error. The packages concerned are enumerated in the output from update-manager below. Also included below that is the output from apt-get -f install apt-get autoremove gives same output. Tried update without SSL updates - 9 to install and got "Unhandled Error in aptdaemon". Output number 3 below. One at a time - output 4 - is for firefox, first in the list of packages. Falls over at libssl1.0.0 despite deselection of it from update ... Tried apt-get install --reinstall dpkg which succeeded, apt-get install --reinstall tar and apt-get install --reinstall gzip both of which failed at libssl1.0.0 as ever. Terminology on the page may include "Your download will begin shortly. If it does not, try this direct link". What is the purpose of this page? It seems to draw away from the general experience of downloading a file. Is this beneficial for bookmarking? Less experienced users? Analytics?

I mess around with some 2d and 3d softwares like unity,gamemaker,UE... and tried to modelate (maya,3dmax),I use them a little,nothing professional, but all i've got is the sensation that i can't go really far. I feel like i am learning really slow, even having the will and some basics knows. But I want to change that, i want to really learn, to progress. I think that a good idea is meeting people like me, and start a non-commercial project or something. Thanks for your time,really. Greetings, SYNOXYS.

    Like the title says; is it a bad practice to quit a company after a few years, only to begin as a consultant for the same 'customer'? I've been lucky enough to come in to a company in the oil business from the beginning, developing software for relatively new and unused technology. Long before I even got this job, I've wanted to start my own consulting firm. Is it morally wrong of me to quit my job after a few years, only to hire myself out as a 'specialist' or consultant on our systems?
