  • use correct-resolution background desktop image

    I have a desktop background image (a picture) in a half-dozen different resolutions, that I'd like to deploy to a disparate collection of computers with different monitors and video cards and whatnot. Laptops, netbooks, desktops, widescreen, and even a couple of "tall" screens. I have images to cover most of the cases. I would like Windows 7 to correctly pick the correct desktop background image via group policy. Now, the logon screen is already done. The OEMBackground method is rather clever, and lets you copy files of different resolutions to the machine, and the logon app will calculate the aspect ratio of the monitor and match it to a file as closely as possible. Is there any way to have that functionality on the desktop background as well?

  • "pull" process/job into the background

    I know of terminating a command with & and then moving it into the background by pressing Ctrl-Z and then bg [pid], and I also know of nohup. But say you started a process that turned out to take much longer than one expected, is there a way of pulling, so to speak, this process from another terminal screen into the background so that even if I log off from the server the process would continue?

    Hi guys, I've created an image which is basically a CSS sprite of 3 images together. It's size is 278x123 so they are basically 3 images of 278x41. What I am trying to do is to make an animation of that by changing the background position. Basically I just need to: - set my background position to "0px 0px", then move it to "0px -41px", then "0px -82px" and then loop it again from "0px 0px". It would be also great to have fadeIn() effect between those. Any ideas? Thank you.

  • changing body type without change of center of mass

    I have an box2d project with some bodies in it, which move around without any user interaction. But if the user selects one of the bodies, he should be able to move it around just like he wants to. To keep it short, I want to change the type of the body to "kinematic" while the user controls it and back to "dynamic" afterwards. If I do so the rotation center of the body changes with the change of the type. How can I reset this? The body's fixture is created of a single b2PolygonShape, with its vertices set via SetAsArray(). Greetings philipp EDIT:: So I looked around about setting the local center of bodies. what brought me to this solution: var md = new b2MassData(); this.body.GetMassData( md ); this.body.SetType( b2body.b2_kinematicBody ); this.body.SetMassData( md ); that did not work, so I had a look at the source and found that SetMassData() always returns if the body is not "dynamic". So I tried this: var md = new b2MassData(); this._body.GetMassData( md ); this._body.SetType( b2Body.b2_kinematicBody ); this._body.m_sweep.localCenter.Set( md.center.x, md.center.y ); what actually is modifying the private data of the body. But it works and no errors appear, but can I really do this without the risk of breaking the application, or in other words, under which circumstances could this solution might cause errors? n.b.: I am using box2dweb of the latest release.     I have a layout that contains some text fields and has a background image that's displayed at the top of my activity. I'd like the background image to scale to wrap the content (don't care about aspect ratio). However, the image is larger than content, so the layout instead wraps the background image. Scale a Drawable or background image? Based on this, I created a FrameLayout w/ an ImageView showing the background. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I want the height of the background image to shrink/expand w/ the size of the text views, but with the FrameLayout, the ImageView fits to the size of it's parent, and I can't find a way to make the parent fit to the size the text view layout.     Hi, I need to have an image at the top-center of a web page in css. Now, Im just using the background-image: in css but this puts it at the middle of the page.   • How can I set the time that Windows 7 changes the background in the background slideshow?

    I've set up my Windows 7 background slideshow with a few choice wallpapers and set it to cycle daily, nothing excessive. Glad to see this feature built into Windows now. My problem is that the change happens at 3 in the afternoon, the time when I originally set up the background. I'd like it to switch at night, so I can come in to work each day to a fresh look. Is there a registry entry I can edit to manually set that switch time? Waiting until midnight to set it doesn't count :P

    I often execute GUI programs, such as firefox and evince from shell. If I type "firefox &", firefox is considered as a bash job, so "fg" will bring it to foreground and "hang" the shell. This becomes annoying when I have some background jobs such as vim already running. What I want is to launch firefox and dis-associate it with bash. Consider the following ideal case with my imaginary runbg: $ vim foo.tex ctrl+z and vim is job 1 $ pdflatex foo $ runbg evince foo.pdf evince runs in background and I get me bash prompt back $ fg vim goes foreground Is there any way to do this using existing program? If no, I will write my own runbg.

    How can I simultaneously run dozens of PHP scripts in the background from XAMPP's command line interface? Someone suggested a batch file, but when I tried executing this: start php 1.php start php 2.php start php 3.php It only opened a command prompt window; I closed that window, then two more command prompt windows opened up executing 2.php and 3.php. I want to run as many scripts as I want all simultaneously and all in the background. What is the best way to accomplish this, and how can it be done?

    We want everyone on the Windows Domain to have the same desktop background. This is set up in a Group Policy. This works great in Windows XP but the Windows 7 machines display a black background. I have re-created the Group Policy, done various tests with different types and sizes of files Enabling and Disabling Active Desktop. I have researched and tried some options and patches from Microsoft as well. Any idea what I can try or even how to determine the problem?

  • Why is my background image always disappearing when I log in?

    When logging in lubuntu 12.04, my background image always disappears, leaving the screen with color only and then I have to go to definitions and set the image in the background again. I notice that this does not happen with low-resolution images, only with high ones, but also happens with images that fit my screen resolution (1280 X 720). Any ideas on how to fix this? The image remains at it's location, but on the desktop preferences, the pathway to the file location is lost and set to none.

    Hi, working on a very small site which loads in one go, so there is a div which holds all the background images, and on top of that (i.e. higher z-index) there is a content div which holds everything. I can switch backgrounds easily based on what content is selected.
