    Hoje (20/03/2010) fizemos o evento Community Launch em Londrina. O dia começou às 09:00h com abertura online realizada pela Microsoft (Rodrigo Dias, Fabio Hara e Rogério Cordeiro), apresentando a Copa Microsoft de Talentos, informações sobre o Road Show <LINK> e produtos Microsoft que estarão no foco deste ano. Após a abertura, alguns influenciadores Microsoft da região apresentaram algumas palestras técnicas, mais voltadas a DEV, sobre os assuntos: As Novidades da Plataforma .NET (André Nobre) - Download Entity Framework 4 (Carlos dos Santos) Silverlight 4 (Marcio Althmann) A minha apresentação foi focada em 3 novidades que podem ser aplicadas no dia-a-dia dos participantes, algo bem pontual, envolvendo web forms, paralelismo e Dynamic Language Runtime. O destaque (IMHO) fica para o paralelismo, algo totalmente aplicável nas aplicações, que nos dá um resultado incrível. Apesar de já existir anteriormente, o fato de estar embutido na plataforma incentiva a rápida adoção da tecnologia.   • Since a few days, Dropbox stopped syncing

    Theres a new problem with nautilus-dropbox and is the worst for a service like Dropbox: stopped syncing and their tech support don't believe their users. The problem is: start dropbox it downloads index creates folders start to download files stop downloading files or the speed is like 0.3k/seg even deleting everything doesn't work, even syncing a single folder with a few files, not even configuring a different limit speed or let all your bandwith, nothing works for me and i have found many users with the same problem. it's strange, i have two computers with ubuntu 14.04 and one with windows 7, and in one of the linux machines it works fine, but not in the other one. Both of them are x64. The answers from the tech support starts with "delete everything and reinstall" to "you may be blocking port 443", yeah, sure (and if i do that half of internet dissapears, idiot), but nothing works. Someone has some idea? i cant find any log file (at least a text log file like in /var/log) to understand what is dropbox doing and what is not working.     Hi, I'm a jQuery total n00b. In my rails app this what happen: I'm on the homepage, I click this link: <a href='/betas/new' rel='facebox'>Sign up</a> A beautiful facebox popup shows up and render this views and the containing form: # /app/views/invites/new <% form_tag({ :controller => 'registration_code', :action => 'create' }, :id => 'codeForm') do %> <%= text_field_tag :code %> <br /> <%= submit_tag 'Confirm' %> <% end %> I clink on submit and if the code is valid the user is taken on another page in another controller: def create # some stuff redirect_to :controller => 'users', :action => 'type' end Now I would like to render that page INSIDE the SAME popup contains the form, after the submit button is pressed but I have NO IDEA how to do it. I've tried FaceboxRender but this happens: Original version: # /controllers/users_controller def type end If I change it like that nothing happens: # /controllers/users_controller def type respond_to do |format| format.html format.js { render_to_facebox } end end If I change it like that (I know is wrong but I'm a n00b so it's ok :-): # /controllers/users_controller def type respond_to do |format| format.html { render_to_facebox } format.js end end I got this rendered: try { jQuery.facebox("my raw HTML from users/type.html.erb substituted here")'); throw e } Any solutions?   • Replace JBoss error page with Axis2 fault XML response

    I'm developing a webservice with Axis2 1.4.1 on JBoss 4.2.3/Tomcat 5.5.27 and Java 1.5.0 (15-b04). It works flawlessly but when an exception happens I get a JBoss error 500 HTML page instead of an Axis2 XML/SOAP fault. This behavoir is vexing, because it difficults to handle errors in the webservice client or in SoapUI while developing. Can I change this to get the SOAP fault? Maybe it's just an Axis2 or JBoss parameter, but I didn't find any clue about.   • Libqxt under Qt Creator

    I want to create a tiny app which needs global shortcuts. So, I have downloaded the current version of libqxt (0.5.1) and opened as a project in Qt Creator. Libqxt compiles without problems in this way, so I thought that adding this in the tab Dependencies of my project it would get added automatically in the build, like Eclipse does with JAR libraries (I know that are different IDEs but it seems to be a common feature among them). What happens? Qt Creator compiles qxt before my project, when needed, but when I want to include its headers Qt Creator keeps warning me that it cannot find them. Probably I am missing the correct name of headers (I tried the headers showed in qxt documentation: http://doc.libqxt.org/0.5.0/classQxtGlobalShortcut.html) By the way, I looked the code for global shortcuts and I think I can rip it out and use it in my app as is and I am going to credit qxt team and open the code of my app.

The toolkit has a set of folders (e.g. ar, it, es, fr) that contain localized resources. These folders are not copied in the bin directory of the WebApps when the solution is built in MSBuild, but they are copied when it is built in Visual Studio. How can I solve this in a clean manner? I know I could write a (quite convoluted) task that copies the directories after the compile, but it does not seem the right solution to me. Also, neither Google, SO and MSDN could provide more details on this kind of issue.

Now, since access to the resource depends on many parameters, this class is instantiated and disposed several times during the normal execution of the program. The shared resource does not support concurrency, so some kind of locking is needed. The first thing that came into my mind is having a static instance in the class, and acquire locks on it, like this: // This thing is static! static readonly object MyLock = new object(); // This thing is NOT static! MyResource _resource = ...; public DoSomeWork() { lock(MyLock) { _resource.Access(); } } Does that make sense, or would you use another approach?

  • Advice on designing and building distributed application to track vehicles

    I'm working on application for tracking vehicles. There will be about 10k or more vehicles. Each will be sending ~250bytes in each minute. Data contains gps location and everything from CAN Bus (every data that we can read from vehicle computer and dashboard). Data are sent by GSM/GPRS (using UDP protocol). Estimated rows with this data per day is ~2000k. I see there 3 main blocks. 1. Multithreaded Socket Server (MSS) - I have it. MSS stores received data to the queue (using NServiceBus). 2. Rule Processor Server (RPS) - this is core of this system. This block is responsible for parsing received data, storing in the database, processing rules, sending messages to Notifier Server (this will be sending e-mails/sms texts). Rule example. As I said between received bytes there will be information about current speed. When speed will be above 120 then: show alert in web application for specified users, send e-mail, send sms text. (There can be more than one instance of RPS). 3. Web application - allows reporting and defining rules by users, monitoring alerts, etc. I'm looking for advice how to design communication between RPS and Web application. Some questions: - Should Web application and RPS have separated databases or one central database will be enough? I have one domain model in web application. If there will be one central database then can I use the same model (objects) on RPS? So, how to send changed rules to RPS? I try to decouple this blocks as much as possible. I'm planning to create different instance of application for each client (each client will have separated database). One client will be have 10k vehicles, others only 100 vehicles.

    I'm using SubSonic 3.0 (SimpleRepository) to handle database access in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application. It would be nice to handle a transaction for every web request, committing if everything went smooth and rolling back in case of exception. Is this possible? If so, how? I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I just couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I have built my own solution (create a TransactionScope in the controller, then commit/rollback in OnActionExecuted), but it turns out to be very unreliable.

    After having had code-golf contests on ordinary mathematical expressions, I just thought it would also be quite interesting how short an evaluation function for postfix notation (RPN) can be. Examples for RPN: 1 2 + == 3 1 2 + 3 * == 9 0 1 2 3 + + - 2 6 * + 3 / 1 - == 1 3 2 / 2.0 + == 3.5 To make things shorter, only +, -, * and /, all just in their binary version, must be supported. Operators/Operands are delimited by one space, divsions by zero don't have to be handled. The resulting code should be a function that takes the postfix string as input and returns the resulting number.
