HTTPS subdomain does not load site under HTTP

I recently installed an SSL certificate on a subdomain following the steps at cPanel. Lets just say the domain is example.com and the subdomain is sub.example.com. I updated the userdata file for the subdomain and changed the IP address to the IP I wanted to use I updated the example.com zone file and changed the IP for the A Name for the subdomain to the IP I wanted to use Using domain tools I checked that sub.example.com resolved to the new IP which it does. I then installed an SSL certificate on example.com and then on sub.example.com When I visit http://sub.example.com I get the default Apache account screen, and when I visit https://sub.example.com I get the cPanel 404 page. If however I enter https://sub.example.com/admin (the location of my admin section) the page loads and I can login. I thought that this might be a propagation issue however as the subdomain resolves to the IP and I can reach the admin page I suspect it is not a propagation issue and possibly an incorrect zone file. Any thoughts?

What is the proper way to setup Google Apps email accounts for a subdomain?

Let's say I've registered domain.com at enom and set it up to use Google Apps for email by rerouting DNS to enom's servers and editing the MX records there. That works flawlessly. Now let's say I want to have email at a subdomain for that same site. I already have a working subdomain at the host, but I want to catch email traffic at enom before it gets that far. I've set up Google Apps as a new account for the subdomain, successfully verified domain ownership, and now they want me to update MX records. What's the right format? For domain.com, I just put @ for the hostname, and then provided the Address and Pref values that Google gave me. I tried putting subdomain.domain.com as new values under hostname for the subdomain, but that doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to find a workaround where a subdomain is hosted elsewhere but everything else remains as it is. E.g. I use their email service and I want to keep it. The domain is not hosted by Jimdo, but by a host that allows me to edit my zones. It points to the Jimdo NS. I have independent hosting where I have NS information. This is where I want to host my subdomain. My thinking was that I could use ZoneEdit as a "fork" that allows me to keep using my Jimdo page like before and, at the same time, directs a subdomain to another host. Provided this is possible: Question: How do I configure ZoneEdit CNAME or NS records to forward visitors to my website and my email to my Jimdo mail account while pointing a subdomain to another host?

Best way to move site from subdomain to root through cPanel?

I have an old Wordpress blog hosted on a subdomain (sub.mysite.com) with hundreds of posts. The root domain is actually empty and redirected to the subdomain. Now I want to move the site from the subdomain to the root domain. I found some .htaccess examples like this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^sub.example.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [R=301,L] This redirection seems to work if I clone or move the subdomain site into the root domain but, Is there an easier way? I mean, just like when you redirect from www. to non-www. and you only have one site installation. The site would be kept installed on subdomain folder but it would be accessed from root domain, is it possible?

Google shows subdomain of main site instead of add on domain URL

I have my host (lunarpages) set up with a few add on domains to my main account. These show up as sub-domains of my main account, but they can be reached by using the new domain I've created. So: subdomain1.domain.com -- www.mynewsite.com subdomain2.domain.com -- www.myothersite.com etc. The problem is, mynewsite.com shows up in google with that domain, but myothersite.com shows up with subdomain2.domain.com. I don't have a clue what might be causing this to happen. If anyone has an advice or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

Point subdomain to another web hosting

I buy a domain from GoDaddy. Let's call this domain as abc.com. I've a hosting account on web hosting A with abc.com as my primary domain. I created a sub-domain pic.abc.com and I wish it to be pointed to my new hosting account. This web hosting B also use abc.com as the primary domain. The main purpose of doing this because I only want to use web hosting B to host my pic.abc.com contents. That's all. Other content from *.abc.com and abc.com will be remain in web hosting A. How to do this? Note 1: I try to add pic.abc.com as an add-on domain in my web hosting B account. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that. Note 2: I also try to use URL forwarding method using DNS management service like DNS Social. It doesn't work. Note 3: I'm using WordPress on the pic.abc.com site. Both web hosting A and B running cPanel - Apache servers (shared hosting). Thanks in advance!

Pointing a subdomain to Github Pages

I set up an Octopress blog on Github Pages at myusername.github.com. I now want blog.myusername.me (which currently has a Wordpress blog set up) to point to this Octopress blog. So I followed the instructions here on setting up a custom domain: I ran echo 'blog.myusername.me' >> source/CNAME in my Octopress repository, and then ran rake generate and rake deploy to deploy it to Github. I went to Namecheap, and added a new CNAME under my myusername.me domain: "blog - myusername.github.com - CNAME". Waited a couple hours. However, now when I go to myusername.github.com, it redirects me to blog.myusername.me (which is my old Wordpress blog), which seems like the inverse of what I want. (Going to blog.myusername.me directly still shows my Wordpress blog.) I checked http://www.whatsmydns.net/#CNAME/blog.myusername.me and it seems like my DNS has propagated (myusername.github.com shows up in the right-hand side). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I am hosting a webshop with OpenCart and its current URL is e.g. http://mydomain.com/shop/ I have created two subdomains ( http://pg.mydomain.com/ and http://shop.mydomain.com/ ) and both subdomains are already working as they should. However, can I restrict direct access to mydomain.com/shop/ while leaving all the files (index.php, etc.) there? Since both subdomains are pointing to http://mydomain.com/shop/, I thought this would restrict all access. So in the end, I would like my two shops to be accessable through http://pg.mydomain.com/ and http://shop.mydomain.com/, but not http://mydomain.com/shop/ while leaving all the files in http://mydomain.com/shop/.

I just took over the webmaster position in my organization, and I'm trying to set up a development environment separate from the production environment. The two environments are hosted with different companies, both on shared hosting plans. Right now, production is at domain.com and development is at domain2.com What I want is to direct my development team to dev.domain.com More importantly, I don't want the URL to change from dev.domain.com back to domain2.com, but I also be responsive to page changes. For example, if my dev team navigates from dev.domain.com to a page (called "page"), I'd like the URL to show as dev.domain.com/page Is this possible, or am I just dreaming?

We have one domain and one sub-domain. Until last week both of them appear in first page of Google search for very important keyword. Unfortunately Google dropped our main domain from search results. our main site has been in first page for 5 years! About one year ago we build this sub-domain. It simply has been redirected to one of pages of main domain. For solving problem we upload a independent site for sub-domain because we guessed that Google think this is our main page of our site. But problem did not solved. What should we do? our main site offer main services and we we want that will be on first page. Shout down sub-domain? Redirect to main site? Put the link of our main site in sub-domain? (About one year ago we put link of this sub-domain to our main site. Google indexed it and continuously bring that to top.) changing in robots.txt ....

Hi, Im a php developer and I would like to offer subdomain hosting,but need also to be able to calculate bandwidth for each subdomain. For the subdomains creation I will use catch-all and wildcards etc to easily set these up. The one thing im a bit stumped on is how to calculate bandwidth for each subdomain, is this possible within php? or are there better solutions for this perhaps using folders or something? Also a script will be loaded under the subdomain, this will vary per user. Is it worth giving each user a new folder and their own script, or more easy to manage one script for all users? I'm trying to set up a wildcard subdomain on my VPS. Ultimately I want to end up with this: main site: my.domain.tld subdomain: sub1.my.domain.tld - should end up serving my.domain.tld/sub1 I am using plesk 8.6. I have created a DNS A record pointing at my VPS' IP. I have then restarted the DNS server and waited up to 24 hours. But trying ping sub1.my.domain.tld results in an unknown host error. So I know there's more stuff involved, configuring apache etc. But so far, I cannot even get the subdomain working at all, let alone serve up the right content. I have also tried a CNAME record, to no effect. I have also tried creating a regular subdomain with a fixed name, which also does not work. Pre-configured subdomains DO work, like ftp.my.domain.tld or mail.my.domain.tld. I am clearly missing something here, but my hosting provider charges a small fortune for any support request not involving hardware physically burning down, so I'm hesitant to ask them. Any ideas?

How is a subdomain passed to the webserver?

I know that dns resolves an address like example.com to an IP address like 11.22.33.44, but I'm a little confused about how subdomains are resolved, so that when you type http://subdomain.example.com, what actually gets passed to the server at 11.22.33.44? In other words, example.com = 11.22.33.44, but subdomain.example.com/path = ??? Are "subdomain" and "path" passed as http headers, or mapped in the url in some way, or what? Thanks in advance. Edit: If I'm understanding correctly, BloodPhilia says that subdomain.example.com actually is a different domain that in principle could resolve to a totally different IP. But if that's so, then what about hosts that have huge numbers of (what look like) subdomains, but which actually map to some path on the site. For instance, blogspot hosts millions of blogs, and they all look like this: aaa.blogspot.com bbb.blogspot.com ...millions more... yyy.blogspot.com zzz.blogspot.com Those are clearly not subdomains with their own IP's, but rather some mapping like aaa.blogspot.com -- www.blogspot.com/aaa, but how is this accomplished? What actually gets passed to the web server at blogspot.com?

Setting a subdomain to access home machine with windows remote desktop

I'm trying to remotely connect to home machine through Windows Remote Desktop (amongst other things, but this is currently my primary focus). I can do this fine using my home WAN's static IP (thank god for cable!) with port-forwarding, but I would like to access it from a subdomain of my web-site (e.g. home.mydomain.co.uk). In the cPanel for my hosting account, I've gone into DNS zones and altered the A-record to point to my WAN's IP, which I thought should do the job, but I still cannot connect. When I ping the subdomain, I get my web-host's IP, which I guess is to be expected as I believe the DNS of the host domain is used first, then my server handles the redirection of traffic to the IP in the A-record. Is this the correct idea? Do A-record changes suffer from the same propagation delays as DNS record changes, as I suppose that could explain it? Serving Meteor on main domain and Apache on subdomain independently

I'm running a Meteor server on my Ubuntu server. But problems arise when I try to have Apache serving a subdomain on the same server. main.domain.com - Meteor sub.domain.com - Apache Meteor is running on port 80. I have previously tried to have Meteor run on port 3000 and served in reverse proxy with Nginx, but Meteor started to behave badly (tcp/websockets issues) and I spent too many evenings and nights to persist for my own sake. So I reverted my setup to have Meteor being the main server (app works fine), and then install Apache the serve my subdomain. The problem is I cannot have Apache serve on port 80 too since it seems to overrun my Meteor server. From experience, I try to stay away from reverse-proxying Meteor, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to get Apache to dedicate itself to my subdomain and without overwhelming "everything port 80" on my server. How can I have both services behave with each other in this kind of setup?

Redirecting Subdomain with Volusion and GoDaddy

I need to create a subdomain (reviews.basequipment.com) and have it re-direct to our Reviews page at http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies. The genius's at Volusion have never gotten this to work correctly and I have been asking them for years now (yes years). Our nameservers are on Volusion and we are hosted through GoDaddy. Volusion tells me to use their "CPanel" to update DNS Records to this: reviews | CNAME | www.resellerratings.com This doesn't even work when going to reviews.basequipment.com and of course does not do the full job as I want to go to http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies So I have then tried doing a Forward Subdomain in GoDaddy. Added subdomain "reviews" and forward to the link I mentioned above, with no avail (im assuming because my nameservers reside on Volusion). Has anyone had experience doing this, or does anyone know of any suggestions? Volusion is pretty limited with this and as I've said, I have been trying this for years and I've finally decided to consult the community here at stackflow. Thanks in advance.

Pointing a subdomain at a file

Switched hosting recently (Linux, CPanel, WHM). At the old host, there was a subdomain that had a file (instead of a directory) as a root. The file was a CGI script. The said subdomain was created via CPanel by me a while ago. At the new host, I'm trying to recreate this subdomain. And I get the following error: The directory, /home/(...)/cgi-bin/guest.cgi could not be created. Is there a tweak somewhere that enables this functionality? EDIT: tried to repeat the trick on the old site, and I could not. CPanel update broke it, maybe?

One subdomain is not working

Hello there, My main domain works just fine - www.example.com and a subdomain set up by another developer works as well - sub1.example.com. But when I try to set another subdomain up I go through the process everything seems to work. The software creates the default files where the subdomain files should go. But when I try to browse there it doesn't work. My host uses Plesk to do all of the hosting stuff. What do you think the problem is? I doubt it is some sort of cache issue because I had problems on my phone which I tried after problems on the pc. Maybe for some reason Plesk needs time to set this up? I have used Cpanel before and that works instantly.
