    I'm having this issue with a live app. (Unfortunately this is post-mortem debugging - I only have this stack trace. I've never seen this personally, nor am I able to reproduce). I get this Exception: message=Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'Button'. exceptionMessage=Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'Button'. at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateHandle() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.get_Handle() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.PointToScreen(Point p) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) exceptionSource=System.Windows.Forms exceptionTargetSite=Void CreateHandle() It looks like a mouse event is arriving at a form after the form has been disposed. Note there is none of my code in this stack trace. The only weird (?) thing I'm doing, is that I do tend to Dispose() Forms quite aggressively when I use them with ShowModal() (see "Aside" below). But I only do this after ShowModal() has returned (that should be safe right)? I think I read that events might be queued up in the event queue, but I can't believe this would be the problem. I mean surely the framework must be tolerant to old messages? I can well imagine that under stress messages might back-log and surely the window might go away at any time? Any ideas? If you could even suggest ways of reproducing, that might be useful. John Aside: TBH I've never quite understood whether calling Dispose() after Form.ShowDialog() is strictly necessary - the MSDN docs for ShowDialog() are to my mind a bit ambiguous.

  • iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4 missing arm architecture

    Ever since I upgraded to iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4, when I try to compile for device I get a warning for most of my libraries (libxml2.dylib, libobjc.A.dylib etc.) saying that it is missing the required architecture arm in file. Checking the libraries with lipo, I see that they all have arm5-7. Surely someone else had to of run into this.

    Let's say I have the following model: Person <AR def name [self.first_name,self.middle_name,self.last_name].select{|n| n.present?}.join(' ') end end How could I do a search on the virtual attribute with searchlogic, something like: Person.search.name_like 'foo' Of courese I could construct a large statement like: Person.search.first_name_like_or_last_name_like_or_... 'argh' but surely there is a more elegant way.

  • On linux, what can cause dlopen to emit SIGFPE?

    I have a library of dubious origins which is identified by file as a 32 bit executable. However, when I try to dlopen it on a 32 bit CentOS 4.4 machine, dlopen terminates with SIGFPE. Surely if there was something wrong with the format of the binary then dlopen should be handling an error? So the question is: What kinds of problems can cause dlopen to emit SIGFPE?

  • Best way to handle global state

    Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on 'best practices' for using global state in a web application - specifically PHP, although im looking for generic best practices i.e. design patterns etc. At the moment I just use a static class, calling it Configs. I suppose this is similar to using the registry pattern but surely there is a more elegant way of handling global data within an application - i just cant think of a better way though.

    Hi, let's say that I have a table called Items (ID int, Done int, Total int) I can do it by two queries: int total = m.Items.Sum(p=>p.Total) int done = m.Items.Sum(p=>p.Done) But I'd like to do it in one query, something like this: var x = from p in m.Items select new { Sum(p.Total), Sum(p.Done)}; Surely there is a way to call aggregate functions from LINQ syntax...?

    Hi, I need to change the code of some asp.net application but the application is missing its .cs files, there are only .aspx files. As I read in google, I understand that the application is a precompiled website. I am not too familiar with it so the question is, can I somehow retrieve the code-behind .cs files of this application because I need to change some functions there.   • C++: How to extract a string from rapidxml

    In my C++ program I want to parse a small piece of XML, insert some nodes, then extract the new XML (preferably as a std::string) RapidXML (http://rapidxml.sourceforge.net/) has been recommended to me, but I can't see how to retrieve the XML back as a text string. (I could iterate over the nodes and attributes and build it myself, but surely there's a build in function that I am missing) Thank you

  • Why won't anyone accept public fields in C#?

    Seems like every C# static analyzer wants to complain when it sees a public field. But why? Surely there are cases where a public (or internal) field is enough, and there is no point in having a property with its get_ and set_ methods? What if I know for sure that I won't be redefining the field or adding to it (side effects are bad, right?) - shouldn't a simple field suffice?

  • Bash: "xargs cat", adding newlines after each file

    I'm using a few commands to cat a few files, like this: cat somefile | grep example | awk -F '"' '{ print $2 }' | xargs cat It nearly works, but my issue is that I'd like to add a newline after each file. Can this be done in a one liner? (surely I can create a new script or a function that does cat and then echo -n but I was wondering if this could be solved in another way)

    I realise this is an older programming environment, but I have to clean up some VB6 code and I am finding that most of it uses: Resume Next What is the general consensus about the use of Resume Next? Surely, if there is an error, you would want the app to stop what it was doing, rollback any data changes, and inform the user of the error, rather than just resuming. When is it good idea to use Resume?

    Since most widgets have a standard method of setting a listener, setOnXXXListener(), just wondering why there is no setDateChangedListener() method for DatePicker? I know init(int, int, int, OnDateChangedListener) can be used for the same purpose, but surely there must be some reason why Google decided not to use the standard method here. I went through the API docs and couldn't find the reason. Would one of the gurus here know the answer to this?

    In xcode, while compiling apps with gcc, I want to throw compilation time errors if things like NSZombieEnabled is on for a distribution release, thus ensuring that compilation will fail and I won't accidentally do something stupid. I did some googling, but could not figure out how to cause the compiler to bail if a certain condition is met. Surely it must be easy, am I just not finding it?

I'd like to parse the document, replace the destination of the links then close (and serve) the PDF document, all using PHP I know I can do this with PDFLib but I don't want to incur this cost. I could re-write the document with FPDF or DomPDF, but some of these PDFs are quite complex so this would be a major time investment. Surely there must be a way to do this directly to PDF docs, using native PHP? TIA

  • How can I get Rails to interpret a text field as a datetime

    My database has a datetime field, and I want to be able to create new entries. Obviously the Rails datetime_select helper isn't the most user friendly thing to have in your form. I'd rather have a text field for the datetime (or one for the date, and one for the time) and interpret the inputs like PHP strtotime can. I might just be searching the wrong keywords. Surely this has been discussed in great depth somewhere. Thanks :0)

  • Android Emulator and adb problems

    I'm having a problem in that whenever I start a emulator, either manually through the command line, or when debugging from Eclipse, it is never recognized by adb, i.e. 'adb devices' will not list it. I have to manually kill and restart adb every time I want to recognize a new emulator. Surely, something is wrong here? (I'm on Vista 64-bit)

  • Why is System.arraycopy native in Java?

    I was surprised to see in the Java source that System.arraycopy is a native method. Of course the reason is because it's faster. But what native tricks is the code able to employ that make it faster? Why not just loop over the original array and copy each pointer to the new array - surely this isn't that slow and cumbersome?   • PHP URL encoding retaining invalid url characters

    I need to replace url invalid characters with something url valid then convert it back again. This is for a search page with a url like http://my.site/search/this-is-a-search, the search form POSTS then the user redirected to the new url. Php has functions urlencode and urldecode however these do not work at all, and leave invalid characters in my url. Surely I don't need to reinvent the wheel here.
