  • WCF MustUnderstand headers are not understood

    - by raghur
    Hello everyone, I am using a Java Web Service which is developed by one of our vendor which I really do not have any control over it. I have written a WCF router which the client application calls it and the router sends the message to the Java Web Service and returns the data back to the client. The issue what I am encountering is, I am successfully able to call the Java web service from the WCF router, but, I am getting the following exceptions back. Router config file is as follows: <customBinding> <binding name="SimpleWSPortBinding"> <!--<reliableSession maxPendingChannels="4" maxRetryCount="8" ordered="true" />--> <!--<mtomMessageEncoding messageVersion ="Soap12WSAddressing10" ></mtomMessageEncoding>--> <textMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="64" maxWritePoolSize="16" messageVersion="Soap12WSAddressing10" writeEncoding="utf-8" /> <httpTransport manualAddressing="false" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" allowCookies="false" authenticationScheme="Anonymous" bypassProxyOnLocal="true" keepAliveEnabled="true" maxBufferSize="65536" transferMode="Buffered" unsafeConnectionNtlmAuthentication="false"/> </binding> </customBinding> Test client config file <customBinding> <binding name="DocumentRepository_Binding_Soap12"> <!--<reliableSession maxPendingChannels="4" maxRetryCount="8" ordered="true" />--> <!--<mtomMessageEncoding messageVersion ="Soap12WSAddressing10" ></mtomMessageEncoding>--> <textMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="64" maxWritePoolSize="16" messageVersion="Soap12WSAddressing10" writeEncoding="utf-8"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> </textMessageEncoding> <httpTransport manualAddressing="false" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" allowCookies="false" authenticationScheme="Anonymous" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" keepAliveEnabled="true" maxBufferSize="65536" proxyAuthenticationScheme="Anonymous" realm="" transferMode="Buffered" unsafeConnectionNtlmAuthentication="false" useDefaultWebProxy="true" /> </binding> </customBinding> If I use the textMessageEncoding I am getting <soap:Text xml:lang="en">MustUnderstand headers: [{http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing}To, {http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing}Action] are not understood.</soap:Text> If I use mtomMessageEncoding I am getting The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error. My Router class is as follows: [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single, ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Multiple, AddressFilterMode = AddressFilterMode.Any, ValidateMustUnderstand = false)] public class EmployeeService : IEmployeeService { public System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message ProcessMessage(System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message requestMessage) { ChannelFactory<IEmployeeService> factory = new ChannelFactory<IEmployeeService>("client"); factory.Endpoint.Behaviors.Add(new MustUnderstandBehavior(false)); IEmployeeService proxy = factory.CreateChannel(); Message responseMessage = proxy.ProcessMessage(requestMessage); return responseMessage; } } The "client" in the above code under ChannelFactory is defined in the config file as: <client> <endpoint address="http://JavaWS/EmployeeService" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="wsHttp" contract="EmployeeService.IEmployeeService" name="client" behaviorConfiguration="clientBehavior"> <headers> </headers> </endpoint> </client> Really appreciate your kind help. Thanks in advance, Raghu

  • WCF app Deployed on Win7 Machine and get connection refused error

    - by Belliez
    I have created a Sync Framework application based on the following sample from microsoft and deployed it to a new Windows 7 machine for testing. The app runs ok but when I attempt to communicate I get the following error: Could not connect to http://localhost:8000/RelationalSyncContract/SqlSyncService/. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8000. I am wondering if there is something I am missing. This is my first experience using WCF and followed microsoft sample code. I have disabled the firewall and opened port 8000 for both TCP and UDP. Not sure what to look at next. Below is my App.config file if this helps: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"/> <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="32768" /> </system.web> <!-- When deploying the service library project, the content of the config file must be added to the host's app.config file. System.Configuration does not support config files for libraries. --> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="WebSyncContract.SyncServiceBehavior" name="WebSyncContract.SqlWebSyncService"> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="largeMessageHttpBinding" contract="WebSyncContract.ISqlSyncContract"> <identity> <dns value="localhost"/> </identity> </endpoint> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange"/> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="http://localhost:8000/RelationalSyncContract/SqlSyncService/"/> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <!-- We are using Server cert only.--> <binding name="largeMessageHttpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="204857600"> <readerQuotas maxArrayLength="1000000"/> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="WebSyncContract.SyncServiceBehavior"> <!-- To avoid disclosing metadata information, set the value below to false and remove the metadata endpoint above before deployment --> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="True"/> <!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. Set to false before deployment to avoid disclosing exception information --> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="True"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> <startup><supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/></startup></configuration> Thank you, your help is much appreciated.

  • Deploying WCF Tutorial App on IIS7: "The type could not be found"

    - by Jimmy
    Hello, I've been trying to follow this tutorial for deploying a WCF sample to IIS . I can't get it to work. This is a hosted site, but I do have IIS Manager access to the server. However, in step 2 of the tutorial, I can't "create a new IIS application that is physically located in this application directory". I can't seem to find a menu item, context menu item, or what not to create a new application. I've been right-clicking everywhere like crazy and still can't figure out how to create a new app. I suppose that's probably the root issue, but I tried a few other things (described below) just in case that actually is not the issue. Here is a picture of what I see in IIS Manager, in case my words don't do it justice: This is "deployed" at http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalcService/Service.svc . The error says: The type 'Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could not be found. I also tried to create a virtual dir (IISHostedCalc) in dotnetpanel that points to IISHostedCalcService . When I navigate to http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalc/Service.svc , then there is a different error: This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. Interestingly enough, if I click on View Applications, it seems like the virtual directory is an application (see image below)... although, as per the error message above, it doesn't work. As per the tutorial, there was no compiling involved; I just dropped the files on the server as follow inside the folder IISHostedCalcService: service.svc Web.config <dir: App_Code> Service.cs service.svc contains: <%@ServiceHost language=c# Debug="true" Service="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService"%> (I tried with quotes around the c# attribute, as this looks a little strange without quotes, but it made no difference) Web.config contains: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService"> <!-- This endpoint is exposed at the base address provided by host: http://localhost/servicemodelsamples/service.svc --> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.ICalculator" /> <!-- The mex endpoint is explosed at http://localhost/servicemodelsamples/service.svc/mex --> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Service.cs contains: using System; using System.ServiceModel; namespace Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples { [ServiceContract] public interface ICalculator { [OperationContract] double Add(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Subtract(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Multiply(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Divide(double n1, double n2); } public class CalculatorService : ICalculator { public double Add(double n1, double n2) { return n1 + n2; } public double Subtract(double n1, double n2) { return n1 - n2; } public double Multiply(double n1, double n2) { return n1 * n2; } public double Divide(double n1, double n2) { return n1 / n2; } } }

  • How can I generate a client proxy for a WCF service with an HTTPS endpoint?

    - by ng5000
    Might be the same issue as this previuos question: WCF Proxy but not sure... I have an HTTPS service connfigured to use transport security and, I hope, Windows credentials. The service is only accessed internally (i.e. within the intranet). The configuration is as follows: <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="WCFTest.CalculatorService" behaviorConfiguration="WCFTest.CalculatorBehavior"> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress = "https://localhost:8000/WCFTest/CalculatorService/" /> </baseAddresses> </host> <endpoint address ="basicHttpEP" binding="basicHttpBinding" contract="WCFTest.ICalculatorService" bindingConfiguration="basicHttpBindingConfig"/> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpsBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange"/> </service> </services> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttpBindingConfig"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType = "Windows"/> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="WCFTest.CalculatorBehavior"> <serviceAuthorization impersonateCallerForAllOperations="false" principalPermissionMode="UseWindowsGroups" /> <serviceCredentials > <windowsAuthentication allowAnonymousLogons="false" includeWindowsGroups="true" /> </serviceCredentials> <serviceMetadata httpsGetEnabled="True"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="False" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> When I run the service I can't see the service in IE. I get a "this page can not be displayed" error. If I try and create a client in VS2008 via the "add service reference" wizard I get this error: There was an error downloading 'https://localhost:8000/WCFTest/CalculatorService/'. There was an error downloading 'https://localhost:8000/WCFTest/CalculatorService/'. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'https://localhost:8000/WCFTest/CalculatorService/'. An error occurred while making the HTTP request to https://localhost:8000/WCFTest/CalculatorService/. This could be due to the fact that the server certificate is not configured properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be caused by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and the server. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. I think I'm missing some fundamental basics here. Do I need to set up some certificates? Or should it all just work as it seems to do when I use NetTcpBinding? Thanks

  • How do you pass user credentials from WebClient to a WCF REST service?

    - by Alex
    I am trying to expose a WCT REST service and only users with valid username and password would be able to access it. The username and password are stored in a SQL database. Here is the service contract: public interface IDataService { [OperationContract] [WebGet(ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] byte[] GetData(double startTime, double endTime); } Here is the WCF configuration: <bindings> <webHttpBinding> <binding name="SecureBinding"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="Basic"/> </security> </binding> </webHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="DataServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <serviceCredentials> <userNameAuthentication userNamePasswordValidationMode="Custom" customUserNamePasswordValidatorType= "CustomValidator, WCFHost" /> </serviceCredentials> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="DataServiceBehavior" name="DataService"> <endpoint address="" binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="SecureBinding" contract="IDataService" /> </service> </services> I am accessing the service via the WebClient class within a Silverlight application. However, I have not been able to figure out how to pass the user credentials to the service. I tried various values for client.Credentials but none of them seems to trigger the code in my custom validator. I am getting the following error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Here is some sample code I have tried: WebClient client = new WebClient(); client.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("name", "password", "domain"); client.OpenReadCompleted += new OpenReadCompletedEventHandler(GetData); client.OpenReadAsync(new Uri(uriString)); If I set the security mode to None, the whole thing works. I also tried other clientCredentialType values and none of them worked. I also self-hosted the WCF service to eliminate the issues related to IIS trying to authenticate a user before the service gets a chance. Any comment on what the underlying issues may be would be much appreciated. Thanks. Update: Thanks to Mehmet's excellent suggestions. Here is the tracing configuration I had: <system.diagnostics> <sources> <source name="System.ServiceModel" switchValue="Information, ActivityTracing" propagateActivity="true"> <listeners> <add name="xml" /> </listeners> </source> <source name="System.IdentityModel" switchValue="Information, ActivityTracing" propagateActivity="true"> <listeners> <add name="xml" /> </listeners> </source> </sources> <sharedListeners> <add name="xml" type="System.Diagnostics.XmlWriterTraceListener" initializeData="c:\Traces.svclog" /> </sharedListeners> </system.diagnostics> But I did not see any message coming from my Silverlight client. As for https vs http, I used https as follows: string baseAddress = "https://localhost:6600/"; _webServiceHost = new WebServiceHost(typeof(DataServices), new Uri(baseAddress)); _webServiceHost.Open(); However, I did not configure any SSL certificate. Is this the problem?

  • WCF endpoint exception

    - by Lijo
    Hi Team, I am just trying with various WCF(in .Net 3.0) scenarios. I am using self hosting. I am getting an exception as "Service 'MyServiceLibrary.NameDecorator' has zero application (non-infrastructure) endpoints. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no service element matching the service name could be found in the configuration file, or because no endpoints were defined in the service element." I have a config file as follows (which has an endpoint) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="Lijo.Samples.NameDecorator" behaviorConfiguration="WeatherServiceBehavior"> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="http://localhost:8010/ServiceModelSamples/FreeServiceWorld"/> </baseAddresses> </host> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Lijo.Samples.IElementaryService" /> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="WeatherServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="False"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> And a Host as using System.ServiceModel; using System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher; using System.ServiceModel.Channels; using System.ServiceModel.Description; using System.Runtime.Serialization; namespace MySelfHostConsoleApp { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { System.ServiceModel.ServiceHost myHost = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyServiceLibrary.NameDecorator)); myHost.Open(); Console.ReadLine(); } } } My Service is as follows using System.ServiceModel; using System.Runtime.Serialization; namespace MyServiceLibrary { [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://Lijo.Samples")] public interface IElementaryService { [OperationContract] CompanyLogo GetLogo(); } public class NameDecorator : IElementaryService { public CompanyLogo GetLogo() { CircleType cirlce = new CircleType(); CompanyLogo logo = new CompanyLogo(cirlce); return logo; } } [DataContract] public abstract class IShape { public abstract string SelfExplain(); } [DataContract(Name = "Circle")] public class CircleType : IShape { public override string SelfExplain() { return "I am a Circle"; } } [DataContract(Name = "Triangle")] public class TriangleType : IShape { public override string SelfExplain() { return "I am a Triangle"; } } [DataContract] [KnownType(typeof(CircleType))] [KnownType(typeof(TriangleType))] public class CompanyLogo { private IShape m_shapeOfLogo; [DataMember] public IShape ShapeOfLogo { get { return m_shapeOfLogo; } set { m_shapeOfLogo = value; } } public CompanyLogo(IShape shape) { m_shapeOfLogo = shape; } } } Could you please help me to understand what I am missing here? Thanks Lijo

  • The maximum message size quota for incoming messages (65536) has been exceeded.

    - by DaleyKD
    My WCF Service has an OperationContract that accepts, as a parameter, an array of objects. This can potentially be quite large. After looking for fixes for Bad Request: 400, I found the real reason: the maximum message size. I know this question has been asked before in MANY places. I've tried what everyone says: "Increase the sizes in the client and server config files." I have. It still doesn't work. My Service's web.config: <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="myService"> <endpoint name="myEndpoint" address="" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="myBinding" contract="Meisel.WCF.PDFDocs.IPDFDocsService" /> </service> </services> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="myBinding" closeTimeout="00:11:00" openTimeout="00:11:00" receiveTimeout="00:15:00" sendTimeout="00:15:00" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" maxBufferPoolSize="2147483647" transferMode="Buffered" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="2147483647" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="2147483647" maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647" /> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <serviceHostingEnvironment multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> </system.serviceModel> My Client's app.config: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="BasicHttpBinding_IPDFDocsService" closeTimeout="00:11:00" openTimeout="00:11:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:11:00" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxBufferPoolSize="2147483647" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" transferMode="Buffered" useDefaultWebProxy="true"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="2147483647" maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647" /> <security mode="None"> <transport clientCredentialType="None" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" /> <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" /> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:8451/PDFDocsService.svc" behaviorConfiguration="MoreItemsInObjectGraph" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_IPDFDocsService" contract="PDFDocsService.IPDFDocsService" name="BasicHttpBinding_IPDFDocsService" /> </client> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="MoreItemsInObjectGraph"> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647" /> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> What can I possibly be missing or doing wrong? It's as though the service is ignoring what I typed in the maxReceivedBufferSize.   • What is the cause of exception in wcf peer-to-peer service with callbacks ?

    - by miensol
    I've been playing around with WCF peer to peer, one way operation contract and callbacks. I have a following service: [ServiceContract(CallbackContract = typeof(ICodeFoundCallback))] public interface ICodeSearch { [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void Search(string searchQuery); } public interface ICodeFoundCallback { [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void Found(string found); } public class CodeSearchService : ServiceWithCallback<ICodeFoundCallback>, ICodeSearch { public void Search(string searchQuery) { Console.WriteLine("Searching for :" + searchQuery); Callback(t=> t.Found(searchQuery)); } } public class ServiceWithCallback<T> { protected void Callback(Action<T> call) { var callbackChanel = OperationContext.Current.GetCallbackChannel<T>(); call(callbackChanel); } } with such config on server <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="CodeSearch.Service.CodeSearchService" behaviorConfiguration="CodeSearchServiceBehavior"> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.p2p://CodeSearchService"/> </baseAddresses> </host> <endpoint name="CodeSearchServiceEndpoint" address="" binding="netPeerTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BindingUnsecure" contract="CodeSearch.Service.ICodeSearch" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="CodeSearchServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <bindings> <netPeerTcpBinding> <binding name="BindingUnsecure"> <security mode="None"/> <resolver mode="Pnrp"/> </binding> </netPeerTcpBinding> <customBinding> <binding name="CodeSearchServiceEndpoint"> <binaryMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="64" maxWritePoolSize="16" maxSessionSize="2048"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> </binaryMessageEncoding> <peerTransport maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" port="0"> <security mode="None" /> </peerTransport> </binding> </customBinding> </bindings> <system.serviceModel> And simple client generated by Visual studio tooling. When I run two or more servers, and client invokes Search method: search method is called on each server first server calls client callback properly second server throws ArgumentException "A property with the name 'TransactionFlowProperty' already exists" when invoking client callback (Found method) I've no idea what is going on since as far as I know transaction flow is by default set to none. Could anyone help me solve this issue ?

  • Unable to host WCF service correctly in IIS7

    - by user206736
    I have a WCF Service library written in .NET 4.0. I have a WCF application (in order to host this service in IIS) within the same solution. It contains the WCF library assembly reference and a service.svc file pointing to the service from the library along with a web.config that is a replica of the WCF service library's app.config. The WCF application is set to host the service in IIS7 (the virtual directory has been set). The same solution contains an ASP.NET Webforms solution to which I have added a service reference pointing to the WCF service I hosted in IIS (as mentioned). When i start an instance of this ASP.NET Web application, I get a message saying that "The WCF service has been hosted" and the ASP.NET application can access the data from it correctly. However, when i try and access this data via a service reference added to an MVC 2 Web Application on the same machine in a different solution (pointing to the service hosted in IIS), I get a "The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed." protocol exception . However, the MVC application is able to access the service data if I manually invoke an instance of the WCF Application that I was using to host the WCF Service Library from the other solution. I am using VS2010 Beta 2 as my development IDE. I have been stuck with this issue for a while now. Any help would be appreciated. My service config is as follows:- <system.serviceModel> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="CruxServices.BasicSearchServiceBehavior" name="CruxServices.BasicSearch.BasicSearch"> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" name="WSBindingEndpoint" bindingConfiguration="WSBindingConfig" contract="CruxServices.BasicSearch.Interfaces.IPropertyListFilter"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" name="MexEndpoint" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="http://localhost/CruxServices" /> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="CruxServices.BasicSearchServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="WSBindingConfig"> <security mode="None"> <transport clientCredentialType="None"/> <message establishSecurityContext="false"/> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings>

  • WCF .svc Accessible Over HTTP But Accessing WSDL Causes "Connection Was Reset"

    - by Wolfwyrd
    I have a WCF service which is hosted on IIS6 on a Win2003 SP2 machine. The WCF service is hosting correctly and is visible over HTTP giving the usual "To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service" message. However accessing the .svc?WSDL link causes the connection to be reset. The server itself is returning a 200 in the logs for the WSDL request, an example of which is shown here, the first call gets a connection reset, the second is a successful call for the .svc file. 2010-04-09 11:00:21 W3SVC6 MACHINENAME 10.79.42.115 GET /IntegrationService.svc wsdl 80 - 10.75.33.71 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322;+.NET+CLR+1.0.3705;+InfoPath.1;+.NET+CLR+3.0.04506.30;+MS-RTC+LM+8;+.NET+CLR+3.0.4506.2152;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;) - - devsitename.mydevdomain.com 200 0 0 0 696 3827 2010-04-09 11:04:10 W3SVC6 MACHINENAME 10.79.42.115 GET /IntegrationService.svc - 80 - 10.75.33.71 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+5.1;+en-GB;+rv:1.9.1.9)+Gecko/20100315+Firefox/3.5.9+(.NET+CLR+3.5.30729) - - devsitename.mydevdomain.com 200 0 0 3144 457 265 My Web.Config looks like: <system.serviceModel> <serviceHostingEnvironment > <baseAddressPrefixFilters> <add prefix="http://devsitename.mydevdomain.com" /> </baseAddressPrefixFilters> </serviceHostingEnvironment> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="My.Service.IntegrationServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="My.Service.IntegrationServiceBehavior" name="My.Service.IntegrationService"> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="My.Service.Interfaces.IIntegrationService" bindingConfiguration="NoSecurityConfig" /> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="NoSecurityConfig"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> </system.serviceModel> I'm pretty much stumped by this one. It works fine through the local dev server in VS2008 but fails after deployment. For further information, the targeted machine does not have a firewall (it's on the internal network) and the logs show the site thinks it's fine with 200 OK responses. I've also tried updating the endpoint with the full URL to my service however it still makes no difference. I have looked into some of the other options - creating a separate WSDL manually and exposing it through the metadata properties (really don't want to do that due to the maintenance issues). If anyone can offer any thoughts on this or any other workarounds it would be greatly appreciated.

  • IErrorHandler doesn't seem to be handling my errors in WCF .. any ideas?

    - by John Nicholas
    Have been readign around on IErrorHandler and want to go the config route. so, I have read the following in an attempt to implement it. MSDN Keyvan Nayyeri blog about the type defintion Rory Primrose Blog I have got it to compile and from the various errors i have fixed it seems like WCF is actually loading the error handler. My problem is that the exception that i am throwing to handle in the error handler doesn;t get the exception passed to it. • WCF: Configuring Known Types

    - by jerbersoft
    I want to know as to how to configure known types in WCF. For example, I have a Person class and an Employee class. The Employee class is a sublass of the Person class. Both class are marked with a [DataContract] attribute. I dont want to hardcode the known type of a class, like putting a [ServiceKnownType(typeof(Employee))] at the Person class so that WCF will know that Employee is a subclass of Person. Now, I added to the host's App.config the following XML configuration: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.runtime.serialization> <dataContractSerializer> <declaredTypes> <add type="Person, WCFWithNoLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=null"> <knownType type="Employee, WCFWithNoLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0,Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null" /> </add> </declaredTypes> </dataContractSerializer> </system.runtime.serialization> <system.serviceModel> ....... </system.serviceModel> </configuration> I compiled it, run the host, added a service reference at the client and added some code and run the client. But an error occured: The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://www.herbertsabanal.net:person. The InnerException message was 'Error in line 1 position 247. Element 'http://www.herbertsabanal.net:person' contains data of the 'http://www.herbertsabanal.net/Data:Employee' data contract. The deserializer has no knowledge of any type that maps to this contract. Add the type corresponding to 'Employee' to the list of known types - for example, by using the KnownTypeAttribute attribute or by adding it to the list of known types passed to DataContractSerializer.'. Please see InnerException for more details. Below are the data contracts: [DataContract(Namespace="http://www.herbertsabanal.net/Data", Name="Person")] class Person { string _name; int _age; [DataMember(Name="Name", Order=0)] public string Name { get { return _name; } set { _name = value; } } [DataMember(Name="Age", Order=1)] public int Age { get { return _age; } set { _age = value; } } } [DataContract(Namespace="http://www.herbertsabanal.net/Data", Name="Employee")] class Employee : Person { string _id; [DataMember] public string ID { get { return _id; } set { _id = value; } } } Btw, I didn't use class libraries (WCF class libraries or non-WCF class libraries) for my service. I just plain coded it in the host project. I guess there must be a problem at the config file (please see config file above). Or I must be missing something. Any help would be pretty much appreciated.

  • WCF Stream.Read always returns 0 in client

    - by G_M
    I've spent most of my day trying to figure out why this isn't working. I have a WCF service that streams an object to the client. The client is then supposed to write the file to its disk. But when I call stream.Read(buffer, 0, bufferLength) it always returns 0. Here's my code: namespace StreamServiceNS { [ServiceContract] public interface IStreamService { [OperationContract] Stream downloadStreamFile(); } } class StreamService : IStreamService { public Stream downloadStreamFile() { ISSSteamFile sFile = getStreamFile(); BinaryFormatter bf = new BinaryFormatter(); MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream(); bf.Serialize(stream, sFile); return stream; } } Service config file: <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="StreamServiceNS.StreamService"> <endpoint address="stream" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_IStreamService" name="BasicHttpEndpoint_IStreamService" contract="SWUpdaterService.ISWUService" /> </service> </services> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="BasicHttpBinding_IStreamService" transferMode="StreamedResponse" maxReceivedMessageSize="209715200"></binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior> <serviceThrottling maxConcurrentCalls ="100" maxConcurrentSessions="400"/> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <serviceHostingEnvironment multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> </system.serviceModel> Client: TestApp.StreamServiceRef.StreamServiceClient client = new StreamServiceRef.StreamServiceClient(); try { Stream stream = client.downloadStreamFile(); int bufferLength = 8 * 1024; byte[] buffer = new byte[bufferLength]; FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"C:\test\testFile.exe", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write); int bytesRead; while ((bytesRead = stream.Read(buffer, 0, bufferLength)) > 0) { fs.Write(buffer, 0, bytesRead); } stream.Close(); fs.Close(); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine("Error: " + e.Message); } Client app.config: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="BasicHttpEndpoint_IStreamService" maxReceivedMessageSize="209715200" transferMode="StreamedResponse"> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="http://[server]/StreamServices/streamservice.svc/stream" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpEndpoint_IStreamService" contract="StreamServiceRef.IStreamService" name="BasicHttpEndpoint_IStreamService" /> </client> </system.serviceModel> (some code clipped for brevity) I've read everything I can find on making WCF streaming services, and my code looks no different than theirs. I can replace the streaming with buffering and send an object that way fine, but when I try to stream, the client always sees the stream as "empty". The testFile.exe gets created, but its size is 0KB. What am I missing?

  • Why does File::Slurp return a scalar when it should return a list?

    - by BrianH
    I am new to the File::Slurp module, and on my first test with it, it was not giving the results I was expecting. It took me a while to figure it out, so now I am interested in why I was seeing this certain behavior. My call to File::Slurp looked like this: my @array = read_file( $file ) || die "Cannot read $file\n"; I included the "die" part because I am used to doing that when opening files. My @array would always end up with the entire contents of the file in the first element of the array. Finally I took out the "|| die" section, and it started working as I expected. Here is an example to illustrate: perl -de0 Loading DB routines from perl5db.pl version 1.22 Editor support available. Enter h or `h h' for help, or `man perldebug' for more help. main::(-e:1): 0 DB<1> use File::Slurp DB<2> $file = '/usr/java6_64/copyright' DB<3> x @array1 = read_file( $file ) 0 'Licensed material - Property of IBM.' 1 'IBM(R) SDK, Java(TM) Technology Edition, Version 6' 2 'IBM(R) Runtime Environment, Java(TM) Technology Edition, Version 6' 3 '' 4 'Copyright Sun Microsystems Inc, 1992, 2008. I have a feeling this might be more of a Perl precedence question instead of a File::Slurp question. I looked in the File::Slurp module and it looks like it is set to croak if there is a problem, so I guess the proper way to do it is to allow File::Slurp to croak for you. Now I'm just curious why I was seeing these differences.

  • WCF service using duplex channel in different domains

    - by ds1
    I have a WCF service and a Windows client. They communicate via a Duplex WCF channel which when I run from within a single network domain runs fine, but when I put the server on a separate network domain I get the following message in the WCF server trace... The message with to 'net.tcp://abc:8731/ActiveAreaService/mex/mex' cannot be processed at the receiver, due to an AddressFilter mismatch at the EndpointDispatcher. Check that the sender and receiver's EndpointAddresses agree. So, it looks like the communication just work in one direction (from client to server) if the components are in two separate domains. The Network domains are fully trusted, so I'm a little confused as to what else could cause this? Server app.config <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="JobController.ActiveAreaBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="false" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="JobController.ActiveAreaBehavior" name="JobController.ActiveAreaServer"> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.tcp://SERVER:8731/ActiveAreaService/" /> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> but I also add an end point programmatically in Visual C++ host = gcnew ServiceHost(ActiveAreaServer::typeid); NetTcpBinding^ binding = gcnew NetTcpBinding(); binding->MaxBufferSize = Int32::MaxValue; binding->MaxReceivedMessageSize = Int32::MaxValue; binding->ReceiveTimeout = TimeSpan::MaxValue; binding->Security->Mode = SecurityMode::Transport; binding->Security->Transport->ClientCredentialType = TcpClientCredentialType::Windows; ServiceEndpoint^ ep = host->AddServiceEndpoint(IActiveAreaServer::typeid, binding, String::Empty); // Use the base address Client app.config <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="NetTcpBinding_IActiveAreaServer" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxBufferSize="65536" maxConnections="10" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign" /> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://SERVER:8731/ActiveAreaService/" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="NetTcpBinding_IActiveAreaServer" contract="ActiveArea.IActiveAreaServer" name="NetTcpBinding_IActiveAreaServer"> <identity> <userPrincipalName value="[email protected]" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> Any help is appreciated!   • EF Code first + Delete Child Object from Parent?

    - by ebb
    I have a one-to-many relationship between my table Case and my other table CaseReplies. I'm using EF Code First and now wants to delete a CaseReply from a Case object, however it seems impossible to do such thing because it just tries to remove the CaseId from the specific CaseReply record and not the record itself.. short: Case just removes the relationship between itself and the CaseReply.. it does not delete the CaseReply. My code: // Case.cs (Case Object) public class Case { [Key] public int Id { get; set; } public string Topic { get; set; } public string Message { get; set; } public DateTime Date { get; set; } public Guid UserId { get; set; } public virtual User User { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<CaseReply> Replies { get; set; } } // CaseReply.cs (CaseReply Object) public class CaseReply { [Key] public int Id { get; set; } public string Message { get; set; } public DateTime Date { get; set; } public int CaseId { get; set; } public Guid UserId { get; set; } public virtual User User { get; set; } public virtual Case Case { get; set; } } // RepositoryBase.cs public class RepositoryBase<T> : IRepository<T> where T : class { public IDbContext Context { get; private set; } public IDbSet<T> ObjectSet { get; private set; } public RepositoryBase(IDbContext context) { Contract.Requires(context != null); Context = context; if (context != null) { ObjectSet = Context.CreateDbSet<T>(); if (ObjectSet == null) { throw new InvalidOperationException(); } } } public IRepository<T> Remove(T entity) { ObjectSet.Remove(entity); return this; } public IRepository<T> SaveChanges() { Context.SaveChanges(); return this; } } // CaseRepository.cs public class CaseRepository : RepositoryBase<Case>, ICaseRepository { public CaseRepository(IDbContext context) : base(context) { Contract.Requires(context != null); } public bool RemoveCaseReplyFromCase(int caseId, int caseReplyId) { Case caseToRemoveReplyFrom = ObjectSet.Include(x => x.Replies).FirstOrDefault(x => x.Id == caseId); var delete = caseToRemoveReplyFrom.Replies.FirstOrDefault(x => x.Id == caseReplyId); caseToRemoveReplyFrom.Replies.Remove(delete); return Context.SaveChanges() >= 1; } } Thanks in advance.

  • WCF zero application endpoint exception

    - by Lijo
    Hi Team, I am just trying with various WCF(in .Net 3.0) scenarios. I am using self hosting. I am getting an exception as "Service 'MyServiceLibrary.NameDecorator' has zero application (non-infrastructure) endpoints. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no service element matching the service name could be found in the configuration file, or because no endpoints were defined in the service element." I have a config file as follows (which has an endpoint) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="Lijo.Samples.NameDecorator" behaviorConfiguration="WeatherServiceBehavior"> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="http://localhost:8010/ServiceModelSamples/FreeServiceWorld"/> </baseAddresses> </host> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Lijo.Samples.IElementaryService" /> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="WeatherServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="False"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> And a Host as using System.ServiceModel; using System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher; using System.ServiceModel.Channels; using System.ServiceModel.Description; using System.Runtime.Serialization; namespace MySelfHostConsoleApp { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { System.ServiceModel.ServiceHost myHost = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyServiceLibrary.NameDecorator)); myHost.Open(); Console.ReadLine(); } } } My Service is as follows using System.ServiceModel; using System.Runtime.Serialization; namespace MyServiceLibrary { [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://Lijo.Samples")] public interface IElementaryService { [OperationContract] CompanyLogo GetLogo(); } public class NameDecorator : IElementaryService { public CompanyLogo GetLogo() { CircleType cirlce = new CircleType(); CompanyLogo logo = new CompanyLogo(cirlce); return logo; } } [DataContract] public abstract class IShape { public abstract string SelfExplain(); } [DataContract(Name = "Circle")] public class CircleType : IShape { public override string SelfExplain() { return "I am a Circle"; } } [DataContract(Name = "Triangle")] public class TriangleType : IShape { public override string SelfExplain() { return "I am a Triangle"; } } [DataContract] [KnownType(typeof(CircleType))] [KnownType(typeof(TriangleType))] public class CompanyLogo { private IShape m_shapeOfLogo; [DataMember] public IShape ShapeOfLogo { get { return m_shapeOfLogo; } set { m_shapeOfLogo = value; } } public CompanyLogo(IShape shape) { m_shapeOfLogo = shape; } } } Could you please help me to understand what I am missing here?   • WCF using windows service

    - by Lijo
    Hi, I am creating a WCF service which is to be hosted in Windows Service. I created a console application as follows I went to management console (services.msc) and started the service. But I got the following error "The LijosWindowsService service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service" I went to the event viewer and got the following "Service cannot be started. System.InvalidOperationException: Service 'Lijo.Samples.WeatherService' has zero application (non-infrastructure) endpoints. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no service element matching the service name could be found in the configuration file, or because no endpoints were defined in the service element." Could you please let me know what is the missing link here? • WCF Endpoints & Binding Configuration Issues

    - by CodeAbundance
    I am running into a very strange issue here folks. For simplicity I created a project for the sole purpose of testing the issue outside the framework of a larger application and still encountered what is either a bug in WCF within Visual Studio 2010 or something related to my WCF newbie skill set : ) Here is the issue: I have a WCF endpoint I created running inside of an MVC3 project called "SimpleMethod". The method runs inside of a .svc file on the root of the application and it returns a bool. Using the "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I have added the endpoint to my Web.Config along with a called "LargeImageBinding". Here is the service: [OperationContract] public bool SimpleMethod() { return true; } And the Web.Config generated by the Config Tool: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="LargeImageBinding" closeTimeout="00:10:00" /> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <services> <service name="WCFEndpoints.ServiceTestOne"> <endpoint address="/ServiceTestOne.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="LargeImageBinding" contract="WCFEndpoints.IServiceTestOne" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name=""> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <serviceHostingEnvironment multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> The service renders fine and you can see the endpoint when you navigate to: http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc - Now the issue occurs when I create a separate project to consume the service. I add a service reference to a running instance of the above project, point it to: http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc Here is the weird part. The service automatically generates just fine but In the Web.Config the endpoint that is generated looks like this: <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc/ServiceTestOne.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IServiceTestOne" contract="ServiceTestOne.IServiceTestOne" name="WSHttpBinding_IServiceTestOne"> As you can see it lists the "ServiceTestOne.svc" portion of the address twice! When I make a call to the the service I get the following error: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. I tried removing the extra "/ServiceTestOne.svc" at the end of the endpoint address in the above config, and I get the same exact error. Now what DOES work is if I go back to the WCF application and remove the custom endpoint and binding references in the Web.Config (everything in the "services" and "bindings" tags) then go back to the consumer application, update the reference to the service and make the call to SimpleMethod()....BOOM works like a charm and I get back a bool set to true. The thing is, I need to make custom binding configurations in order to allow for access to the service outside of the defaults, and from what I can tell, any attempt to create custom bindings makes the endpoints seem to run fine, but fail when an actual method call is made. Can anyone see any flaw in how I am putting this together? Thank you for your time - I have been running in circles with this for about a week!

  • WCF - Define multiple services in a single APP.Config file?

    - by Goober
    Scenario I have a windows forms application. I want to use two different WCF Services that are in no way connected. HOWEVER, I'm not sure how to go about defining the services in my APP.CONFIG file. From what I have read, it is possible to do what I have done below, but I cannot be sure that the syntax is correct or the tags are all present where necessary and I needed some clarification. Question. So is the below the correct way to setup two services in A SINGLE APP.CONFIG FILE? I.E: <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service> <!--SERVICE ONE--> <endpoint> </endpoint> <binding> </binding> </service> <service> <!--SERVICE TWO--> <endpoint> </endpoint> <binding> </binding> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> CODE <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <!--SERVICE ONE--> <service> <endpoint address="" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="tcpServiceEndPoint" contract="ListenerService.IListenerService" name="tcpServiceEndPoint" /> <binding name="tcpServiceEndPoint" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxBufferSize="65536" maxConnections="10" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:05:00" enabled="true" /> <security mode="None"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign" /> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </service> <!--SERVICE TWO--> <service> <endpoint address="" binding="netTcpBinding" contract="UploadObjects.IResponseService" bindingConfiguration="TransactedBinding" name="UploadObjects.ResponseService"/> <binding name="TransactedBinding"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> EDIT What do the BEHAVIOURS represent? How do they relate to the service definitions?

  • Azure - Part 4 - Table Storage Service in Windows Azure

    - by Shaun
    In Windows Azure platform there are 3 storage we can use to save our data on the cloud. They are the Table, Blob and Queue. Before the Chinese New Year Microsoft announced that Azure SDK 1.1 had been released and it supports a new type of storage – Drive, which allows us to operate NTFS files on the cloud. I will cover it in the coming few posts but now I would like to talk a bit about the Table Storage.   Concept of Table Storage Service The most common development scenario is to retrieve, create, update and remove data from the data storage. In the normal way we communicate with database. When we attempt to move our application over to the cloud the most common requirement should be have a storage service. Windows Azure provides a in-build service that allow us to storage the structured data, which is called Windows Azure Table Storage Service. The data stored in the table service are like the collection of entities. And the entities are similar to rows or records in the tradtional database. An entity should had a partition key, a row key, a timestamp and set of properties. You can treat the partition key as a group name, the row key as a primary key and the timestamp as the identifer for solving the concurrency problem. Different with a table in a database, the table service does not enforce the schema for tables, which means you can have 2 entities in the same table with different property sets. The partition key is being used for the load balance of the Azure OS and the group entity transaction. As you know in the cloud you will never know which machine is hosting your application and your data. It could be moving based on the transaction weight and the number of the requests. If the Azure OS found that there are many requests connect to your Book entities with the partition key equals “Novel” it will move them to another idle machine to increase the performance. So when choosing the partition key for your entities you need to make sure they indecate the category or gourp information so that the Azure OS can perform the load balance as you wish.   Consuming the Table Although the table service looks like a database, you cannot access it through the way you are using now, neither ADO.NET nor ODBC. The table service exposed itself by ADO.NET Data Service protocol, which allows you can consume it through the RESTful style by Http requests. The Azure SDK provides a sets of classes for us to connect it. There are 2 classes we might need: TableServiceContext and TableServiceEntity. The TableServiceContext inherited from the DataServiceContext, which represents the runtime context of the ADO.NET data service. It provides 4 methods mainly used by us: CreateQuery: It will create a IQueryable instance from a given type of entity. AddObject: Add the specified entity into Table Service. UpdateObject: Update an existing entity in the Table Service. DeleteObject: Delete an entity from the Table Service. Beofre you operate the table service you need to provide the valid account information. It’s something like the connect string of the database but with your account name and the account key when you created the storage service on the Windows Azure Development Portal. After getting the CloudStorageAccount you can create the CloudTableClient instance which provides a set of methods for using the table service. A very useful method would be CreateTableIfNotExist. It will create the table container for you if it’s not exsited. And then you can operate the eneities to that table through the methods I mentioned above. Let me explain a bit more through an exmaple. We always like code rather than sentence.   Straightforward Accessing to the Table Here I would like to build a WCF service on the Windows Azure platform, and for now just one requirement: it would allow the client to create an account entity on the table service. The WCF service would have a method named Register and accept an instance of the account which the client wants to create. After perform some validation it will add the entity into the table service. So the first thing I should do is to create a Cloud Application on my VIstial Studio 2010 RC. (The Azure SDK 1.1 only supports VS2008 and VS2010 RC.) The solution should be like this below. Then I added a configuration items for the storage account through the Settings section under the cloud project. (Double click the Services file under Roles folder and navigate to the Setting section.) This setting will be used when to retrieve my storage account information. Since for now I just in the development phase I will select “UseDevelopmentStorage=true”. And then I navigated to the WebRole.cs file under my WCF project. If you have read my previous posts you would know that this file defines the process when the application start, and terminate on the cloud. What I need to do is to when the application start, set the configuration publisher to load my config file with the config name I specified. So the code would be like below. I removed the original service and contract created by the VS template and add my IAccountService contract and its implementation class - AccountService. And I add the service method Register with the parameters: email, password and it will return a boolean value to indicates the result which is very simple. At this moment if I press F5 the application will be established on my local development fabric and I can see my service runs well through the browser. Let’s implement the service method Rigister, add a new entity to the table service. As I said before the entities you want to store in the table service must have 3 properties: partition key, row key and timespan. You can create a class with these 3 properties. The Azure SDK provides us a base class for that named TableServiceEntity in Microsoft.WindowsAzure.StorageClient namespace. So what we need to do is more simply, create a class named Account and let it derived from the TableServiceEntity. And I need to add my own properties: Email, Password, DateCreated and DateDeleted. The DateDeleted is a nullable date time value to indecate whether this entity had been deleted and when. Do you notice that I missed something here? Yes it’s the partition key and row key I didn’t assigned. The TableServiceEntity base class defined 2 constructors one was a parameter-less constructor which will be used to fill values into the properties from the table service when retrieving data. The other was one with 2 parameters: partition key and row key. As I said below the partition key may affect the load balance and the row key must be unique so here I would like to use the email as the parition key and the email plus a Guid as the row key. OK now we finished the entity class we need to store onto the table service. The next step is to create a data access class for us to add it. Azure SDK gives us a base class for it named TableServiceContext as I mentioned below. So let’s create a class for operate the Account entities. The TableServiceContext need the storage account information for its constructor. It’s the combination of the storage service URI that we will create on Windows Azure platform, and the relevant account name and key. The TableServiceContext will use this information to find the related address and verify the account to operate the storage entities. Hence in my AccountDataContext class I need to override this constructor and pass the storage account into it. All entities will be saved in the table storage with one or many tables which we call them “table containers”. Before we operate an entity we need to make sure that the table container had been created on the storage. There’s a method we can use for that: CloudTableClient.CreateTableIfNotExist. So in the constructor I will perform it firstly to make sure all method will be invoked after the table had been created. Notice that I passed the storage account enpoint URI and the credentials to specify where my storage is located and who am I. Another advise is that, make your entity class name as the same as the table name when create the table. It will increase the performance when you operate it over the cloud especially querying. Since the Register WCF method will add a new account into the table service, here I will create a relevant method to add the account entity. Before implement, I should add a reference - System.Data.Services.Client to the project. This reference provides some common method within the ADO.NET Data Service which can be used in the Windows Azure Table Service. I will use its AddObject method to create my account entity. Since the table service are not fully implemented the ADO.NET Data Service, there are some methods in the System.Data.Services.Client that TableServiceContext doesn’t support, such as AddLinks, etc. Then I implemented the serivce method to add the account entity through the AccountDataContext. You can see in the service implmentation I load the storage account information through my configuration file and created the account table entity from the parameters. Then I created the AccountDataContext. If it’s my first time to invoke this method the constructor of the AccountDataContext will create a table container for me. Then I use Add method to add the account entity into the table. Next, let’s create a farely simple client application to test this service. I created a windows console application and added a service reference to my WCF service. The metadata information of the WCF service cannot be retrieved if it’s deployed on the Windows Azure even though the <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> had been set. If we need to get its metadata we can deploy it on the local development service and then changed the endpoint to the address which is on the cloud. In the client side app.config file I specified the endpoint to the local development fabric address. And the just implement the client to let me input an email and a password then invoke the WCF service to add my acocunt. Let’s run my application and see the result. Of course it should return TRUE to me. And in the local SQL Express I can see the data had been saved in the table.   Summary In this post I explained more about the Windows Azure Table Storage Service. I also created a small application for demostration of how to connect and consume it through the ADO.NET Data Service Managed Library provided within the Azure SDK. I only show how to create an eneity in the storage service. In the next post I would like to explain about how to query the entities with conditions thruogh LINQ. I also would like to refactor my AccountDataContext class to make it dyamic for any kinds of entities.   Hope this helps, Shaun   All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. • Fitting it together, database, reporting, applications in C#

    - by alvonellos
    Introduction Preamble I was hesitant to post this, since it's an application whose intricate details are defined elsewhere, and answers may not be helpful to others. Within the past few weeks (I was actually going to write a blog post about this after I finished) I've discovered that the barrier I'm encountering is one that's actually quite common for newer developers. This question is not so much about a specific thing as it is about piecing those things together. I've searched the internet far and wide, and found many tutorials on how to create applications that are kind of similar to what I'm looking for. I've also looked at hiring another, more experienced, developer to help me along, but all I've gotten are unqualified candidates that don't have the experience necessary and won't take care of the client or project like I will. I'd rather have the project never transpire than to release a solution that is half-baked. I've asked professors at my school, but they've not turned up answers to my question. I'm an experienced developer, and I've written many applications that are -- very abstractly -- close to what I'm doing, but my experiences from those applications aren't giving me enough leverage to solve this particular problem. I just hope that posting this article isn't a mistake for me to write. Project Description I have a project I'm working on for a client that is a rewrite of an application, originally written in Foxpro 2.6 by someone before me, that performs some analysis (which, sadly, I'm not allowed to disclose as per of my employment contract) on financial data. One day, after a long talk between the client and I -- where he intimately described his frustrations with all the bugs I've been hacking out of this code for 6 months now -- he told me to just rewrite it and gave me a month to write a good 1/8 of this 65k LOC Foxpro monstrosity. this 65k line of code foxpro monstrosity. It'll take me a good 3 - 6 months to rewrite this software (I know things the original programmer did not, like inheritance) going as I am right now, but I'm quickly discovering that I'm going to need to use databases. Prior to this contract I didn't even know about foxpro, and so I've had to learn foxpro on the fly, write procedures and make modifications to the database. I've actually come to like it, and this project would be rewritten in Foxpro if it were still a supported language, because over the past few months, I've come to like the features of Foxpro that make it so easy to develop data-driven applications. I once perfomed an experiment, comparing C# to Foxpro. What took me 45 minutes in C# took me two in Foxpro, and I knew C# prior to Foxpro. I was hoping to leverage the power of C#, but it intimidates me that in foxpro, you can have one line of code and be using a database. Prior to this, I have never written any serious database development from scratch. All the applications that I've written are in a different league. They are either completely data-naive or data-naive enough that I can get away with not using a database through serialization or by designing algorithms that work with the data in a manner that is stateless, so there is no need to worry about databases. I've come to realize, very quickly, that serialization and my efficacy with data structures has been my crutch all these years that's prevented me from adventuring into databases, and has consequently hindered my success in real-world programming. Sure, I've written some database stuff in Perl and Python, and I've done forms and worked with relational databases and tables, I'm a wizard in Access and Excel (seriously) and can do just about anything, but it just feels unnatural writing SQL code in another language... I don't mind writing SQL, and I don't It's that bridge between the database and the program code that drives me absolutely bonkers. I hope I'm not the only one to think this, but it bothers me that I have to create statements like the following string sSql = "SELECT * from tablename" When there's really no reason for that kind of unchecked language binding between two languages and two API's. Don't get my wrong, SQL is great, but I don't like the idea that, when executing commands on a SQL database, that one must intermix database and application software, and there's no database independence, which means that different versions of different databases can break code. This isn't very nice. The nicest thing about Foxpro is the cohesiveness between programming language and database. It's so easy, and Foxpro makes it easy, because the tool just fits the task. I can see why so many developers have created a career with this language, because it lowered the barrier of entry to data-driven applications that so many businesses need. It was wonderful. For my purposes today, with the demands and need for community support, extensibility, and language features, Foxpro isn't a solution that I feel would be the right tool for the job. I'm also worried about working too heavy with the database, because I've seen data-driven .NET applications have issues with database caches, running out of memory, and objects in the database not being collected. (Memory leaks) And OH the queries. Which one, how, and why? There are a plethora of different ways that a database can be setup, I think I counted 5 or 6 different kinds of database applications alone that I can chose from. That is a great mountain for me to climb when I don't even know where to begin when it comes to writing data-driven applications. The problem isn't that I don't know SQL or that I don't know C#. I know both and have worked with both extensively. It's making them work together that's the problem, and it's something I've never done in C# before. Reports The client likes paper. The data needs to be printed out in a format that is extensible, layered, and easy to use. I have never done reporting before, and so this is a bit of a problem. From the data source comes crystal reports, and so there's a dependency on the database, from what I understand. Code reuse A large part of the design decision that I've gone through so far is to break the task of writing a piece of this software into routines and modular DLL's and so forth such that much of the code can be reused. For example, when I setup this database, I want to be able to reuse the same database code over and over again. I also want to make sure that when the day comes that another developer is here, that he/she will be able to pick up just where I left off. The quicker I develop these applications, the better off I am. Tasks & Goals In my project, I need to write routines that apply algorithms and look for predefined patterns in financial data. Additionally, I need to simulate trading based on predefined algorithms and data. Then I need to prepare reports on that data. Additionally, I need to have a way to change the code base for this application quickly and effectively, without hacking together some band-aid solution for a problem that really needs a trauma ward. Special Considerations The solution must be fast, run quickly on existing hardware, and not be too much of a pain to maintain and write. I understand that anything I write I'm married to -- I'm responsible for the things that I write because my reputation and livelihood is dependent on it. Do I really need a database? What about performance? Performance was such a big issue that I hand wrote a data structure that is capable of performing 2 billion operations, using a total of 4 gigs of memory in under 1/4 of a second using the standard core two duo processor. I could not find a similar, pre-written data structure in C# to perform this task. What setup do I use in terms of database? What about reporting? I'd prefer to have PDF's generated, but I'd like to be able to visually sketch those reports and then just have a ReportFactory of some sort, that when I pass some variables in, it just does that data. About Me I'm a lone developer for a small business in this area. This is the first time I've done this and I've never had the breadth and depth of my knowledge tested. I'm incredibly frustrated with this project because I feel incredibly overwhelmed with the task at hand. I'm looking for that entry level point where I can draw a line and say "this is what I need to do" Conclusion I may have not been clear enough on my post. I'm still new to this whole thing, and I've been doing my best to contribute back to the community that I've leached so much knowledge from. I'd be glad to edit my post and add more information if possible. I'm looking for a big-picture solution or design process that helps me get off the ground in this world of data-driven applications, because I have a feeling that it's going to be concentric to my entire career as a programmer for some time. Specifically, if you didn't get it from the rest of the post (I may not have been clear enough) I really need some guidance as to where to go in terms of the design decisions for this project. Some things that'll be useful will be a pro/con list for the different kinds of database projects available in VS2010. I've tried, but generating that list has been as hard as solving the problem itself... If you could walk a developer writing a data-driven application for the first time in C#, how would you do that? Where would you point them to?

  • Latest Security Updates for Java are Available for Download

    - by Akemi Iwaya
    Oracle has released new updates that patch 40 security holes in their Java Runtime Environment software. Anyone who needs or actively uses the Java Runtime Environment for work or gaming should promptly update their Java installation as soon as possible. One thing to keep in mind is that there are limitations placed on updates for older versions of Java as shown in the following excerpt. If you are using an older version, then it is recommended that you update to the Java SE 7 release if possible (depending on your usage circumstances). From the The H Security blog post: Only the current version of Java, Java SE 7, will be updated for free; downloads of the new version, Java SE 7 Update 25, are available and existing installs should auto-update. Mac OS X users will get an updated Java SE 6 for their systems as an automatic update; Java SE 7 on Mac OS X is updated by Oracle. Users of other older versions of Java will only get updates if they have a maintenance contract with Oracle. Affected Product Releases and Versions: JDK and JRE 7 Update 21 and earlier JDK and JRE 6 Update 45 and earlier JDK and JRE 5.0 Update 45 and earlier JavaFX 2.2.21 and earlier Note: If you do not need Java on your system, we recommend uninstalling it entirely or disabling the browser plugin. You can download and read through the details about the latest Java updates by visiting the links shown below.

  • Getting beyond basic web programming languages. How to be awesome?

    - by user73962
    I'm a web developer that's done a bunch of projects using PHP, JQuery/JS, Mysql using PhPMyAdmin, CSS, HTML and a tiny bit of XML. Basically lots of work with CMS's and freehand coding. I'm looking to take things to the next level. I've done a lot of freelance and small contract work, but I'm dying to excel. I'm tired of acting as tech support for all these "non-tech" companies that barely know how to use their own computers..."really, you didn't think to backup your files before switching to a new server??". Think of potential employers as amazon, netflix, twitter, google, etc. I don't necessarily want to work for these guys specifically, but potentially organizations like this. I could be wrong, but I feel like a big company like this would laugh at me if I interviewed. For example, how helpful is knowing Ruby, SQL (commands without interface), C++, API's, Oracle, Java, debugging, qa, etc? (I realize this is a very random list). I use Notepad ++, but have heard that the bigger boys use IDE interfaces. I'm not really interested in building desktop apps, only web related stuff. I feel like I've reached my potential and want to really take it up a notch. I see a lot of projects on GitHub and I'm amazed at what people have created. Note - my degree is in economics but I've done web dev since high school. I definitely wish I took more comp sci/programming courses in college. I'm 27 and want to be awesome at web dev before it's too late. Not just decent. Any advice? Book suggestions? Thanks
