  Group, Part 1: I'm currently working on a command line utility that can take args and update a local database. The only issue I have is once i established a "Data connection"..how can I use those args for queries and searches. For example: ~//arrInput.exe "parm1" "pram2" "pram3" Part 2: I would like to take in command line args and use them as input parms for a "stored proc".   hi all. i'm writing a component that is to be used across multiple websites. each website has it's own stylesheets and displays certain things differently. all of my html is wrapped within a div with an id: <div id="myComponent">...</div> my component however is to look consistent across all of the sites. this is fine as i apply styling to most of the attributes in my component. div#myComponent p {font-size:11px;} etc however i've come across a site that removes the border from all input fields input {border: medium none;} i need to 'un-apply' this directive for the input fields within my component, and preferrably use the browser's default styling for inputs, as the border style for input type="text" will need be different to input type="button". how would you achieve this?

• Kohonen SOM Maps: Normalizing the input with unknown range

  According to "Introduction to Neural Networks with Java By Jeff Heaton", the input to the Kohonen neural network must be the values between -1 and 1. It is possible to normalize inputs where the range is known beforehand: For instance RGB (125, 125, 125) where the range is know as values 0 and 255: 1. Divide by 255: (125/255) = 0.49 (0.49,0.49,0.49) 2. Multiply by two and subtract one: ((0.49*2)-1)=-0.02 (-0.02,-0.02,-0.02) The question is how can we normalize the input where the range is unknown like our height or weight. Also, some other papers mention that the input must be normalized to the values between 0 and 1. Which is the proper way, "-1 and 1" or "0 and 1"?

  Consider a link to a page for a user's profile. A page is creating that URL like this: //Model.Name has value "<bad guy>" Html.ActionLink("foo, "ViewUser", new { id=5, title=Url.Encode(Model.Name) }) The actual outcome was http://mysite/Users/5/%253cbad%2guy%253e When navigating to that URL, the server generates a HTTP Error 400 - Bad Request. Question: Given that the Model.Name may contain Unicode characters, or characters otherwise illegal in URLs, what's the best way to strip out illegal characters, or otherwise encode them? The problem surfaces when testing out 'interesting' user inputs with < and >, but anything could come from the user, and therefore be put in a URL by way of Model.Name.

• C# Monte Carlo Simulation Package Needed

  I'm relative new to C# and doing a project using Monte Carlo Simulation. Basically my question is the following. I have two uncertain variable inputs, A and B, and they will go through a model and give an output C. So C = f(A,B). I know A's probability distribution (Triangular) and B's probability distribution (Discrete). How can I get the probability distribution of C? What I have done now is that I can generate random numbers based on A's triangular distribution as well as B's discrete distribution. Each pair of randomly generated A and B gives a resultant C. I've run this model 1000 times thus I can get 1000 possible values of C. The difficulty is to get the corresponding probabilities of each value of C. Obviously it's not 1/1000 unless C is uniformly distributed. Is there any Monte Carlo Simulation package/library I can use?

  First, my use case: I'm trying to use YQL's built in XPATH capabilities to scrape content from Yahoo! Fantasy Sports. It uses some sort of cookie-based authentication scheme. Basically, the sequence is: 1) Do an HTTP GET on the Yahoo! Login page 2) Parse the hidden inputs from the response and do an HTTP PUT with your Yahoo! Login on the form URL 3) Use the cookies returned from step 2 to GET any of the Fantasy Sports! websites that you have access to My question is, does YQL support doing this to scrape data? The only authentication based examples I've seen use OAuth, but I haven't seen any examples of using YQL to parse websites with cookie-based authentication schemes

  Hi, I read about Big-O Notation from here and had few questions on calculating the complexity.So for the below code i have calculated the complexity. need your inputs for the same. private void reverse(String strToRevers) { if(strToRevers.length() == 0) { return ; } else { reverse(strToRevers.substring(1)); System.out.print(strToRevers.charAt(0)); } } If the memory factor is considered then the complexity of above code for a string of n characters is O(n^2). The explanation is for a string that consists of n characters, the below function would be called recursively n-1 times and each function call creates a string of single character(stringToReverse.charAT(0)). Hence it is n*(n-1)*2 which translates to o(n^2). Let me know if this is right ?

  Hi, I have a program that is compressing a string in an unknown way. I know a few inputs and the output produced, but I am not sure what is being used to compress the string. Here are my examples. • Working with DataBinding and Page_Load in ASP.NET MVP

  I'm using WebForms MVP to create some simple reporting applications. Most of these applications consist of a few search criteria inputs and a ComponentArt datagrid that I'm populating with data from the database. Most of the markup is in a UserControl, which is in a content page with a master page. My problem is that the control's Page_Load event is firing before the control events that caused the postback in the first place. Basically, the user clicks the search button, and Page_Load is fired BEFORE Search_Click. This is messing with the databinding scheme I've been using. So that's the question: Why is my Page_Load event firing before the event handler, and what can I do about it? I don't THINK this problem is related to WebForms MVP or ComponentArt, but obviously I could be wrong. Thanks.

  Hi guys, i have a form which allows the user to key in the data and then submit. if everything works well on this action result, then i will redirect the user back to a thank you page. my problem right now is that when the user click on the back button, they will be able to go back to the form page and the inputs will still be there. and if the user just click on submit again, i will be getting some potential weird bugs. so in terms of asp.net mvc, what's the best way to handle users who click on the back button? thanks!

I have to build a program in C (recursion is a must here but loops are allowed as well) which does the following: The user inputs 2 different strings.For example: String 1 - ABC String 2 - DE The program is supposed to print strings which are combined of the ones the user has entered. the rule is that the inner order of the letters in each string (1&2) must remain.   Hello, I'm validating a text field in my form as follows: $name = new Zend_Form_Element_Text('name'); $name->setLabel('First Name:') ->setRequired(true) ->addFilter(new Zend_Filter_StringTrim()) ->addValidator('regex',true,array('/^[(a-zA-Z0-9)]+$/')) ->addErrorMessage('Please enter a valid first name'); What I'm trying to accomplish is - how can i display a meaningful error message? Eg: If first name is 'XYZ-', how can i display '- is not allowed in first name.' Is there a way I can access what character the regex is failing for? Would you recommend something else altogether? I thought about writing a custom validator but the regex is pretty simple, so I don't see the point. I couldn't find a decent documentation for the zend 'regex' validator anywhere. If I don't override the default error message, I simple get something like : ';;;hhbhbhb' does not match against pattern '/^[(a-zA-Z0-9)]+$/' - which I obviously don't want to display to the user. I'd appreciate your inputs.

  I've search for answers for this and I can't seem to find an answer to what should be somewhat simple. This is related to another question I asked, but it's different. What's the best way to take a user's search phrase and throw it into a CONTAINSTABLE(table, column, @phrase, topN ) phrase? Say, for example the user inputs: Books by "Dr. Seuss" What's the best way to turn that into something that will return results in my ContainsTAble() phrase? I was previously parsing the search phrase and writing something like ISABOUT("Books" WEIGHT(1.0), "by" WEIGHT(0.9), "Dr. Seuss" WEIGHT(0.8)) as my @phrase but ISABOUT seems to be returning odd results... especially when one word searches are entered. Considering the fact that a window cannot be made alpha blended over another window unless you take a snap of the background, I had to resort to OpenGL.   Using MVC3 and Ajax.BeginForm I surprisingly discovered that mvc ajax forms submits elements with the attribute disabled="disabled". I have tested both select and text inputs. I was suprised because they should not be submited and they will not when using Html.BeginForm. Is there some hidden option or a workaround for this? • Java ServerSocket Multiple Listen Instances

  i have a java game app that uses sockets to communicate with each other. the issue is when i do a socket listen (server), i can run another instance of the game on the same machine using the same port as before to listen, and it results in listening again. now i have two instances of the application both listening on the same port. you can imagine only one connects when a connection comes through. the question is: how do i prevent the app from listening on the same port as another instance is already listening to? thanks in advance. EDIT: serverSocket = new ServerSocket(serverPort, backlog); im using this. should i try to use: ServerSocket(int port, int backlog, InetAddress bindAddr) instead?
