• Mobile Apps for Oracle E-Business Suite

  Many things have changed in the mobile space over the last few years. Here's an update on our strategy for mobile apps for the E-Business Suite. Mobile app strategy We're building our family of mobile apps for the E-Business Suite using Oracle Mobile Application Framework.  This framework allows us to write a single application that can be run on Apple iOS and Google Android platforms. Mobile apps for the E-Business Suite will share a common look-and-feel. The E-Business Suite is a suite of over 200 product modules spanning Financials, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and many other areas. Our mobile app strategy is to release standalone apps for specific product modules.  Our Oracle Timecards app, which allows users to create and submit timecards, is an example of a standalone app. Some common functions that span multiple product areas will have dedicated apps, too. An example of this is our Oracle Approvals app, which allows users to review and approve requests for expenses, requisitions, purchase orders, recruitment vacancies and offers, and more. You can read more about our Oracle Mobile Approvals app here: Now Available: Oracle Mobile Approvals for iOS Our goal is to support smaller screen (e.g. smartphones) as well as larger screens (e.g. tablets), with the smaller screen versions generally delivered first.  Where possible, we will deliver these as universal apps.  An example is our Oracle Mobile Field Service app, which allows field service technicians to remotely access customer, product, service request, and task-related information.  This app can run on a smartphone, while providing a richer experience for tablets. Deploying EBS mobile apps The mobile apps, themselves (i.e. client-side components) can be downloaded by end-users from the Apple iTunes today.  Android versions will be available from Google play. You can monitor this blog for Android-related updates. Where possible, our mobile apps should be deployable with a minimum of server-side changes.  These changes will generally involve a consolidated server-side patch for technology-stack components, and possibly a server-side patch for the functional product module. Updates to existing mobile apps may require new server-side components to enable all of the latest mobile functionality. All EBS product modules are certified for internal intranet deployments (i.e. used by employees within an organization's firewall).  Only a subset of EBS products such as iRecruitment are certified to be deployed externally (i.e. used by non-employees outside of an organization's firewall).  Today, many organizations running the E-Business Suite do not expose their EBS environment externally and all of the mobile apps that we're building are intended for internal employee use.  Recognizing this, our mobile apps are currently designed for users who are connected to the organization's intranet via VPN.  We expect that this may change in future updates to our mobile apps. Mobile apps and internationalization The initial releases of our mobile apps will be in English.  Later updates will include translations for all left-to-right languages supported by the E-Business Suite.  Right-to-left languages will not be translated. Customizing apps for enterprise deployments The current generation of mobile apps for Oracle E-Business Suite cannot be customized. We are evaluating options for limited customizations, including corporate branding with logos, corporate color schemes, and others. • Oracle R Enterprise 1.1 Download Available

• SSH access failure from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS VM

  I installed 2 VMs on VirtualBox. VM 1: Windows XP with FreeSSHd and PuTTY installed.IP address: 10.0.0.2 VM 2: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server Edition with OpenSSH installed.IP address: 10.0.0.3 From VM 1, I run PuTTY with the IP address of VM 2 (10.0.0.3) and port number 22. I get prompted to input the username and password of VM 2 and everything works fine.From VM 2, I run on the terminal (Ubuntu): ssh [email protected] , I get prompted to enter the password of VM 1. I do so, but it says my password is invalid (while it is the correct one). I even deactived the Firewall on VM 1, but still the problem is here: my password is not accepted from VM 2. Is this due to some settings maybe I must do on VM 1 (Windows XP) so as I can access it with SSH ? Maybe it has something to do with the Firewall of Windows XP ?Important information: ping 10.0.0.2 from VM 1 and ping 10.0.0.3 from VM 2 are working successfully.

• Setting up SQL Server 2005 to use all available memory in 32bit Windows Server 2003 - and verifying

  There are a number of questions along this line - but they either sometimes contradict each other, or don't show how to properly verify that everything is actually working - hopefully this can be comprehensive... I'm running SQL Server 2005 SP3 Standard on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard. My server has 8GB of memory installed - my system is almost entirely used as a Database Server - there are some services running on them, but the OS + services can run within 1Gb of RAM. What I've done (please tell me if I'm doing something wrong): /3GB in the boot.ini. (To increase the amount of user-space memory available - info) /PAE in the boot.ini. (Windows claimed to be doing PAE even without this switch, somethow.) Enabled AWE in SQL Server. Enabled Lock Pages in Memory Option for users SYSTEM and Local Service. (info). SQL Server Standard doesn't seem to use this until Cumulative Update 4, which isn't installed on my server. (info) Set Min/Max Memory to : 1024Mb/5112Mb After doing all the above, we definately saw a level of improvement - but I'd like now to verify my settings, make sure that I'm making full use of the memory available. (There appeared to be a slowdown when max = 7Gb, so I edged off from that value, but it might have been just perceptual.) To verify, I checked the following levels in PerfMon : Process(sqlserv):Working Set : 76386304 SQL Server(Memory Manager) : Total Server Memory : 3538944 (I saw a doc that noted that this wasn't the full memory used by SQL Server, so I'm not sure whether to trust it) So -- my questions... Should my max be around 7Gb? If not, what should it be? Why is total server memory at 3.5G, when it's been allocated 5G? What is the proper metric for the amount of memory allocated to SQL Server? The Working Set seems a bit large... Am I possibly missing any steps in the setup? Any recommended resources on starting to tune the caching system now? Thanks

• Why can't I copy .zip files from a server to a server in a different domain?

  At work, we're using a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM as our build server. At the end of the build process for any of our projects, we copy the packaged deployment files to a folder on the server where they'll be deployed. (This is done in a batch command by a service account.) For most of our projects, which deploy to a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM, this step goes swimmingly. But for one project, which deploys to a Windows Server 2003 R2 VM which resides in a different domain on our network, the .zip files return "Access is denied" and don't copy, though all of the other files copy correctly. Our sysadmins say they haven't prevented this in group policy or by other means. If I'm logged in the build server as myself and run the copy in the command window, I can't copy the .zip files over either, so it's not just a matter of the service account's permissions. If I log into the 2003 server and then copy from the build server to the 2003 server, using the command window, it works, whether I run as myself or as our service account. Only .zip files cause the "Access is denied" problem. Even a (fake) .exe file copies correctly. All of our other projects have .zip files, and they copy to their 2008 R2 server correctly. Is there a way I can get the Windows Server 2003 R2 VM to accept .zip files copied from our build server?

• Windows 7 Desktop/Start Menu Redirection: Server O/S: Windows Server 2003 And Server 2008

  Hi, I am new here so I am might be asking a question which has already been answered [however I can't see it in the suggested answers above] I manage a network which is split into a parent domain and a child domain. Recently I have been looking at when to migrate to Windows 7. The child domain users [authenticated by the 2008 based (child) domain] get the redirected Desktop [as expected] but not the Start Menu. The parent domain users [authenticated by the 2003 based (parent) domain] get neither desktop nor Start Menu redirected. Does anyone here know how to successfully redirect the properties for these users as desired? Many thanks.

  I have a WSUS 3.2 Installed on a Windows Server 2003 R2. SQL Server 2005. I want to move the WSUS DB from this server, to our new SQL Server 2008 R2 on a new Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine. • Oracle’s New Approach to Cloud-based Applications User Experiences

  By Misha Vaughan It was an exciting Oracle OpenWorld this year for customers and partners, as they got to see what their input into the Oracle user experience research and development process has produced for cloud-delivered applications. The result of all this engagement and listening is a focus on simplicity, mobility, and extensibility. These were the core themes across Oracle OpenWorld sessions, executive roundtables, and analyst briefings given by Jeremy Ashley, Oracle's vice president of user experience. The highlight of every meeting with a customer featured the new simplified UI for Oracle’s cloud applications.    Attendees at some sessions and events also saw a vision of what is coming next in the Oracle user experience, and they gave direct feedback on whether this would help solve their business problems.  What did attendees think of what they saw this year? Rebecca Wettemann of Nucleus Research was part of  an analyst briefing on next-generation user experiences from Oracle. Here’s what she told CRM Buyer in an interview just after the event:  “Many of the improvements are incremental, which is not surprising, as Oracle regularly updates its application,” Rebecca Wettemann, vice president of Nucleus Research, told CRM Buyer. "Still, there are distinct themes to this latest set of changes. One is usability. Oracle Sales Cloud, for example, is designed to have zero training for onboarding sales reps, which it does," she explained. "It is quite impressive, actually—the intuitive nature of the application and the design work they have done with this goal in mind. The software uses as few buttons and fields as possible," she pointed out. "The sales rep doesn't have to ask, 'what is the next step?' because she can see what it is."  What else did we hear? Oracle OpenWorld is a time when we can take a broader pulse of our customers’ and partners’ concerns. This year we heard some common user experience themes on the following: · A desire to continue to simplify widely used self-service tasks · A need to understand how customers or partners could take some of the UX lessons learned on simplicity and mobility into their own custom areas and projects  · The continuing challenge of needing to support bring-your-own-device and corporate-provided mobile devices to end users · A desire to harmonize user experiences across platforms for specific business-use cases  What does this mean for next year? Well, there were a lot of things we could only show to smaller groups of customers in our Oracle OpenWorld usability labs and HQ lab tours, to partners at our Expo, and to analysts under non-disclosure agreements. But we used these events as a way to get some early feedback about where we are focusing for the year ahead. • Good Laptop .NET Developer VM Setup

  I was torn between putting this question on this site or SuperUsers. I've tried to do a good bit of searching on this, and while I find plenty of info on why to go with a VM or not, there isn't much practical advise on HOW to best set things up. Here's what I currently HAVE: HP EliteBook 1540, quad-core, 8GB memory, 500GB 7200 RPM HD, eSATA port. Descent machine. Should work just fine. Windows 7 64-bit Host OS. This also acts as my day-to-day basic stuff (email, Word Docs, etc...) OS. VMWare Desktop Windows 7 64-bit Guest OS with all my .NET dev tools, frameworks, etc loaded on it. It's configured to use 2 cores and up to 6GB of memory. I figure that the dev env will need more than email, word, etc... So, this seemed like a good option to me, but I find with the VM running, things tend to slow down all around on both the host and guest OS. Memory and CPU utilization don't seem to be an issue, but I/O does. I tried running the VM on an external eSATA drive, figuring that the extra channel might pick up the slack. Things only got worse (could be my eSATA enclosure). So, for all of that I have basically two questions in one. Has anyone used this sort of setup and are there any gotchas either around the VMWare configuration or anything else I may have missed here that you can point me to? Is there another option that might work better? For example, I've considered trying a lighter weight Host OS and run both of my environments as VMs? I tried this with Server 2008 Hyper-V, but I lose too much laptop functionality going this route, so I never completed setup. I'm not averse to Linux as a host OS, though I'm no Linux expert. If I'm missing any critical info, feel free to ask. Thanks in advance for your help. Steve
