  • Firefox 16 freezes or crashes when playing Youtube or flash videos

    Using the most up to date Firefox (16.0.2), and Adobe Flash. Whenever I go to any youtube video or flash video on another page, Firefox starts the video, but only plays the audio, and then when I make any click on anywhere within Firefox, it gets completely stuck. It freezes and the only way to get it to close is to go to task manager. I restarted in Safe Mode and it did the same thing. Windows 7 64 bit.

  • SVN command that returns wether a user has a valid login for a repository?

    Hi there, I'm trying to find out an SVN command that would return some kind of true / false value depending on wether the user running it has access to a given repository. I'm building a tool for automated deployment and part of the process is checking out the code from the SVN repository. I'd like to find out if the user running the tool has a valid login already. If there's no valid login, just show a message and exit the tool (handling the SVN login internally is not an option at the moment). Plan B would be parsing the file in svn.simple looking for the repo URL, but thought about asking first. Thanks, Juan

  • Does moving a file outside NTFS loose data in alternate data streams?

    I have a lot of files on machine running Windows Server 2008 which I wanted to move to a Fedora machine. How can I keep the attributes stored in, for example, media files (date taken, rating, length, etc) while transfering it to outside the realm of NTFS's Alternate Data Streams. I'm aware that similar metadata exists in other file systems, but what happens when you move these files? And what's the best way to retain them in other file systems?

  • CD Burned in XP isn't readable in Vista

    I burned a CD on XP using the built-in burning software and I can read the CD on that machine, but when I insert it into my Vista machine, I can't read the files. It shows the correct volume label, and the correct 'free space', but I can't access the actual files. Am I missing something obvious? (Both systems are fully up-to-date)

  • 3D in Windows 7 on Thinkpad R51

    I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, and now the 3D doesn't work. According to dxdiag DirectX 11 is installed, but when I open up World of Warcraft, this error comes up. World of Warcraft World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up-to-date. There are no alerts from Windows to update any drivers. Why doesn't the 3D work?

    I have a proxy server that runs Ubuntu Server 11.10, Squid 2.7.STABLE9. I installed sarg (version 2.3.1 Sep-18-2010) to generate reports using the ordinary apt-get install, and added a cron job to generate a report of the day every 5 minutes (that will overwrite the 5-minutes-older one): */5 * * * * /root/proxy_report.sh And the content of /root/proxy_report.sh is: #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/sarg -nd `date +"%d/%m/%Y"` > /dev/null 2>&1 And I added another cron job to generate a full report every hour at :32 (not to collide with the 5 minutes job): */32 * * * * /root/proxy_report_full.sh And the content of /root/proxy_report_full.sh is : #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/sarg -n > /dev/null 2>&1 And I added a small script to remove the yesterday full report (the full report that ends in yesterday that won't be overwritten by the new today full report) in /etc/rc.local to run at startup: /usr/bin/rm_yesterday.sh &>> /var/log/rm_yesterday Where /usr/bin/rm_yesterday.sh: #!/bin/bash find /var/www/sarg/ | grep `date -d Apr1 +"%Y%b%d"`-* | grep -v `date +"%Y%b%d"` | xargs rm -rf * Apr1 is the starting date of the proxy... ** I've placed it in /usr/bin to be mounted early at startup... That arrangement went OK for about a month and a half, except for one time I noticed some errors and reports wasn't generated, and fixed that by making an offset (the two minutes in 32 of the second cron job). Or it comes with the standard Ubuntu? I don't remember I installed it manuallly. The question is: What could've gone wrong? Does it have something to do with rotating the log? I have installed Clamav and it has managed to pickup the infected files which have a pattern of starting with either /*km0ae9gr6m*/ or /*gootkitstart*/ and ending with /*qhk6sa6g1c*/ or /*gootkitend*/ My Plesk panel is up to date and security patches were installed. How can I isolate the security vulnerability on the server?

    As you might know sandboxing software doesn't work in 64bit Windows due to patchguard. What are the alternatives for a person looking to test untrusted / temporary software? Edit: @Nick I'd prefer an alternative to VMs as I'm not happy with the extended startup time, the extra login sequences and the memory overhead that accompanies booting a VM solution to test something out ocassionally as a home user. Also it's another system that needs to be kept secure and up to date.

  • Javascript on a desktop wallpaper (XP)

    I have a desktop wallpaper shipped out by my domain, it's a HTML wallpaper that displays information like today's date, etc. It also has the internet usage rules. Using jquery I've made it so that the rules are hidden and displayed when you click on the section heading. The JS runs fine and it hides the rules, but it appears that once the desktop "loses focus" the javascript stops and clicking the headings does nothing. Anyone know a way to keep javascript running?

All my drivers are up to date, downloaded directly from the vendor site, installed with administrative privileges, etc. Yet, all OpenGL applications cannot render the interface (or any visuals). Examples are Blender (3D modeling software) and Babo Violent (top-down FPS). All the controls, sound effects and music are live, but the screen is black or light gray, respectively. What can one do?

  • Confused with DKIM, SPF and Exim Configs

    I've now spent 2 hours trying to figure out this issue and I am about to give up and go to bed. I've been having issues with Gmail rejecting emails from my VPS server because of false spam alerts (probably caused by lfd sending too many emails). So I changed my Exim config to send emails from a different IP (my VPS comes with 3) and that fixed the issue. I also enabled DKIM and SPF on my domains for added measure. But now, all my emails appear as ("From: Sender Name via server.domain1.com") where server.domain1.com is my VPS hostname. I previously had the same issue in Outlook and turning off "Set SMTP Sender: headers" solved that problem. But I believe adding the DKIM and SPF now makes Gmail add "via server.domain1.com" to my messages. How do I fix this?   • Linux Program Source Management

    This particular problem has little do with SubVersion Repositories and more to do with the management of installed programs. My question revolves around the problem of installing a program from source. If I where to build a distro with no package management system what possibilities would I have for maintaining the program is up to date. My only idea would be to keep a record of all the programs installed from source and perform a periodic check to identify if a new version is out.
