  • Is it possible to cache an asp page on the server side?

    Let's assume you have a big complex index page, that shows news articles and stuff. It's not going to change very often. Can you cache it somehow on the serverside, so requests don't force to server to dynamically generate the entire page every time someone visits it? Or does ASP.NET do this automatically? If so, how does it know if something has changed?

    I'm using asp.net and want to filter a search result everytime the user enter letters in a textbox. For exmaple this website do exactly what I want: http://www.prisjakt.nu/ (try searching in the right top corner). I have tried just putting my textbox and the gridview with the search result in an updatepanel, it's working but it's really slow, can I make it faster and how? Is there any articles or something about this?

  • DDD and avoiding CRUD

    It seems that on most articles I read, CRUD is to be avoided in DDD as we are dealing with modeling business process and not data. However, I find it hard to see not to have CRUD operations on certain entities. For example, in a school grading system, before teachers can grade students, a SchoolYear has to be present or perhaps a GradingPeriod. I can't see how we can manage GradingPeriods without CRUD. Could someone enlighten me on this?

Now, people at work, which may not be HTML savvy, will be creating new articles and then posting them to this knowledge base. Is there something you can recommend that would allow such type of user to create a document on somthing similar to Microsoft Word but web based and then publish? Or do I have to write it from scratch? Thanks for any help.

    I have a table of Hits, Articles and Categories Now, a Hit belongs_to an Article/Category (depends on where it was done). so I have a column on Hits table with the name 'parenttype' That tells me 'Article' or 'Category'. I wrote in the Hit model (extends ORM) protected $_belongs_to= array( 'page' => array('model'=> $this->parenttype) ); Now it complains about $this-parenttype not being expected?

    We are running our applications on .NET 3.5 and are planning on either updating to .NET 4.0 or switching entirely to the Java platform, J2EE v6, as we've heard from some clients that "it's better." Can anyone either explain some of the large differences between the two platforms and maybe what kind of costs would be associated with switching to Java rather than just updating, or point me to some articles or papers that make such comparisons?     I have read articles about the differences between SOAP and REST as a web service communication protocol, but I think that the biggest advantage for REST over SOAP are : REST is more dynamic, no need for creating and updating UDDI. REST is not restricted to XML format. REST web services can send plain text, JSON, and also XML. But SOAP is more standardized (Ex; security). So, am I correct in these points? Thanks

    All the articles I Googled on this subject are dated back in 2004-2005. Basically I am structuring precanned searches, and it is based off of categories the client will input. Example content/(term name)/index.htm Does it matter if I used the raw term with a space, which is converted to %20 in the URL, or should I convert the link to '-' and remove that before querying for results? I already have it working, but does anyone know if this definitely has a negative impact on SEO and ranking?
