• Optimal Activity Stack Order for a Main Menu button?

  I'm developing an app that starts with a main menu, and then continues through three different steps (activities) to a final activity where the task is marked complete. On this last activity, i have several additional options (add note, share, etc..) and i also have a return to main menu button. My question is.. how do i stack the activities so that calling finish() on the final activity will return back to the first activity launched? i am currently just starting the new activity via an intent, so pressing back on this screen doesn't return me to home as i would like. Sorry in advance for being so convoluted in my desc

• Rails table inheritance issue

  I've setup some models in the table inheritance fashion and everything seems to be all fine and dandy. But, when I use a collection select field to select values from one of the models it saves it but it saves the ID of the data and not the actual value of the data. So when I try to display the value on the show view it just shows the corresponding ID and not the actual value. Here is my setup. I'm using formtastic as a side note. • Environment Variable to determine the OS type (Windows XP, Windows 7)

  I want to differrntiate between Windows XP and Windows 7 in a XML file. Thought i will use an environment variable for it inside the XML. However I could not find any system environment variable defined in windows that gives this information. I see the %OSTYPE% variable but it is only available in Windows 7. It is not defined in XP. Is there anyway i could do this? Note that i would like a solution which purely depends on system environment variables. I do not want to create new variables based on executing some command, because i want to use this variable in a XML file.

  I'm trying to get HTML5's audio tag to work in Chrome. The following code works flawlessly in Firefox, any ideas why it isn't working in Webkit? <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function init(){ audio = new Audio("chat.ogg"); audio.play(); } </script> </head> <body onload="init()"> </body> I should also note that I tried this with an mp3 as well. • SVN - When you tag a working copy is it still a cheap copy?

  Using Subversion, in my working copy I make a minor modification (update a version number). I would then like to tag my working copy. Would this tag still be a cheap copy with the modification, or would SVN duplicate the files? I would hate to see my repository grow enormously in size because I'm trying to save a version number change. The reason I ask about creating a tag that contains a modification rather than committing then tagging involves my build server. The build server creates a CCNetLabel which I use to update the version numbers of my projects (AssemblyInfo.cs). When the build is successful it creates a tag. When I use ForceBuild the tag is based on the working copy which would contain the modified version number. I want the tag to contain the appropriate version number. note: It's debatable if I'm creating a branch or a tag, however SVN does not make a distinction between the two.

  The problem: let's say I have two tables Client, and Product, in which Client has its primary key and a column called products (that points to pk's in Product table)... ok, if I need products to point only one row, it's nice, but if I need it to point for... 1000 rows in Product table, the products column would have to be larger enought... but I can't predict this situation. So, how could I design my table and how would I use hibernate with it, to achieve that "pointing" in a optmized and maybe "easy" way. NOTE: I excluded some columns of the "design" presented here, just to keep the simplicity.

• wxPython TreeCtrl without showing root while still showing arrows

  I am making a python tree visualizer using wxPython. It would be used like so: show_tree([ 'A node with no children', ('A node with children', 'A child node', ('A child node with children', 'Another child')) ]) It worked fine but it shows a root with a value of "Tree". I made it so that it would create multiple roots but then learned that I wasn't allowed to do that. I reverted to the original code but used changed it from this: self.tree = wx.TreeCtrl(self) to this: self.tree = wx.TreeCtrl(self, style=wx.TR_HIDE_ROOT). It worked but it didn't show the little arrows on the side so you wouldn't know which nodes had children. Is there any way to hide the root node but keep the arrows. Note: I am on a Mac using Python version 2.5 and wxPython version 2.8.4.0.

(Note it is a GET): public ActionResult MyView(MyDTO dto) { return View(dto) } The problem is that the instance of MyObject is coming back as null, where val1 and val2 have data. Has anyone run across this?

  I store backups of databases in a directory structure year/month/day/time/backup_name an example would be basics_mini/2012/11/05/012232/RATIONAL.0.db2inst1.NODE0000.20110505004037.001 basics_mini/2012/11/06/012251/RATIONAL.0.db2inst1.NODE0000.20110505003930.001 note that timestamp from the backup file cannot be used. Before the automation testing starts the server time is set to 5.5.2011 So the question is how I can get the latest file if I pass the "base directory" (basics_mini) to some function that I am going to code. My thoughts are that I list the base directory and sort by time to get the year. Then I do the same for month, day and time. I wonder if there is any "easier" solution to that in php.

I have two tables (data, transaction) which I insert information into in a serializable transaction (either they are both in, or both out, but not in limbo). SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE BEGIN TRANSACTION INSERT INTO dbo.data (ID, data) VALUES (@Id, data) INSERT INTO dbo.transactions(ID, info) VALUES (@ID, @info) COMMIT TRANSACTION I have a reconcile query which checks the data table for entries where there is no transaction at read committed isolation level. INSERT INTO reconciles (ReconcileID, DataID) SELECT Reconcile = @ReconcileID, ID FROM Data WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM TRANSACTIONS WHERE data.id = transactions.id) Note that the ID is actually a composite (2 column) key, so I can't use a NOT IN operator My understanding was that the second query would exclude any values written into data without their transaction as this insert was happening at serializable and the read was occurring at read committed. I have evidence that reconcile is picking up entries

  I have a vector and I need to see if all the strings in that vector are substrings of another given string. eg vector<string> v; v.push_back("str1"); v.push_back("str2"); string s1 = "str1, str2, str3"; string s2 = "str1, str3"; Is there a way to get true from s1 and false from s2 without looping over the vector? Also, note that due to my environment, I can't use boost. I think if I had boost, I could do this.

• Padding a string in Postgresql with rpad without truncating it

  Using Postgresql 8.4, how can I right-pad a string with blanks without truncating it when it's too long? The problem is that rpad truncates the string when it is actually longer than number of characters to pad. Example: SELECT rpad('foo', 5); ==> 'foo ' -- fine SELECT rpad('foo', 2); ==> 'fo' -- not good, I want 'foo' instead. The shortest solution I found doesn't involve rpad at all: SELECT 'foo' || repeat(' ', 5-length('foo')); ==> 'foo ' -- fine SELECT 'foo' || repeat(' ', 2-length('foo')); ==> 'foo' -- fine, too but this looks ugly IMHO. Note that I don't actually select the string 'foo' of course, instead I select from a column: SELECT colname || repeat(' ', 30-length(colname)) FROM mytable WHERE ... Is there a more elegant solution?

• Casting to specific class in HQL

  My situation is like this.. (note: for those who work with JBPM might already familiar with following data structures and HB mapping) Class LongInstance extends from VariableInstance, with the mapping for field "value" overridden in LongInstance. The mapping for VariableInstance is here and for LongInstance here. VariableInstance is polymorphically mapped to a collection in TokenVariableMap, the mapping is here. The question: how can I query the polymorphic collection using specific/overridden property of the member class? • Simple Scala syntax - trying to define "==" operator - what am I missing?

Why doesn't it work??? • Why a thread is aborted in ASP.NET MVC (again)?

  Here is what I do in a controller action: create and start a new Thread that does a relatively long processing task (~30 seconds on average, but might be several minutes) immediately return the page response so the user knows processing has started (trivially, a Json with a task ID for polling purposes). At some random point, ThreadAbortException is thrown, so the async task does not complete. The exception is not thrown every time, it just happens randomly roughly 25% of the times. Points to note: I'm not calling Response.End or Response.Redirect - there isn't even a request running when the exception is thrown I tried using ThreadPool and I got the same behavior I know running threads in ASP.NET has several caveats but I don't care right now Any suggestion?

  This is at least a documentation error, if not a bug. In VB.NET prior to .NET 4.0 (i.e. VB.NET 7 through 9) an empty Structure declaration fails at compile-time with error BC30281: Structure 'MySimpleEmpty' must contain at least one instance member variable or Event declaration. The following two structures compile successfully in VB10, and not prior: Structure MySimpleEmpty End Structure Public Structure AnotherEmpty Public Const StillEmpty As Boolean = True End Structure I note the documentation for the Error BC30281 stops at VB9, but the documentation for the Structure statement still has the datamemberdeclarations as required even as of VB11 (.NET 4.5 VS2012). These two Structures compile in VB11 (VS2012) as well. (Thanks John Woo.) Is there some blog entry or documentation confirming this is an intended change or a bug in VB10 and later?

• Does it make a difference in performance if I use self.fooBar instead of fooBar?

  Note: I know exactly what a property is. This question is about performance. Using self.fooBar for READ access seems a waste of time for me. Unnecessary Objective-C messaging is going on. The getters typically simply pass along the ivar, so as long as it's pretty sure there will be no reasonable getter method written, I think it's perfectly fine to bypass this heavy guy. Objective-C messaging is about 20 times slower than direct calls. So if there is some high-performance-high-frequency code with hundreds of properties in use, maybe it does help a lot to avoid unnessessary objective-c messaging? Or am I wasting my time thinking about this?
