  • MS Publisher 2003 - hangs when saving to desktop

    We have a win 7 home prem pc, amd cpu, 8G ram, plenty of free disk space. Whenever user is working in publisher 20003, and tries to save a publisher 2003 document to the desktop, the save as dialog hangs and takes 2-3 minutes to display the desktop save location. I've tested excel 2003, it has no problems immediately displaying the desktop save as location and saving the file.

    Tried using direct connection using Ethernet cable and using windows easy transfer, but no luck, also tried using ad-hoc, home group, and connecting through a router both wired and wireless but no luck, im getting a little frustrated as I need to transfer these files because im selling one of them this afternoon! All I need to do is transfer some documents and files. The windows 7 pc recognizes the vista pc but vista cant recognize the win 7.

    Hey I have to make a file system with an encrypted partition with on ubuntu server. something like Unencrypted: / - 10 GB /home - 10GB /var - 5GB -------------- Encrypted: /opt - 50GB This I can figure out in the setup, just partition as normal, setup /tmp as a encrypted volume with dm-crypt. However im not sure how to mirror this entire drive, so that if either failed i could still boot. and how will that affect the encrypted partition. Any help would be appreciated.

    I am trying to connect to mysql server which is installed on my home pc from another pc. I allowed all connection in mysql configuration. There's no firewall blocking on the pc I am trying to connect from. I used the command- mysql -h Some.Host.IP -u SomeUser -p SomePassword I am getting- ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'Some.Host.IP' (10060) I can connect through php!! What's the problem? How do I solve it?

    I have apache installed on my ubuntu machine. you can access the server from other machines with http://linux-server The local path on the machine is /var/www I have installed vsftpd on the machine as well so I can ftp to the server from another machine with ftp://linux-server however it takes me to /home/myUserName I want the ftp to take me to the same place as the http. So how can I change the FTP path? Thanks!

  • Install Windows SteadyState without an internet connection?

    Based on the results of this post, I'm trying to install Windows SteadyState on a bunch of computers with no internet connection (but all with legitimate copies of windows XP pro). The problem is that the installer asks to be connected to the Windows Genuine Advantage server, and I can't manage that. Is there a workaround? I can use internet at my home, but cannot have the school install and pay for a connection. Maybe there's another program that would work just as well?

  • Icons in windows 8 changed automatically

    The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically ! Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon. My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change.   • Cannot see folders on my external drive [closed]

    I have a Windows Vista Home Premium machine, and am using a WD portable drive. My external drive is showing that it is occupying space, but I am no longer able to see any of my folders in there. Out of the 1 TB, its shows that 600 gigs are free, but the folders are gone! Please suggest some way of retrieving the files (I think they're must be some way to retireve them, since the disk utilization shows that something is on the disk). Appreciate your help!

    so at home we had the idea of instead of buying 3 different pc's we would somehow create a "server" for the computers where a cable would come to our screens and keyboard and mouses, so the actual pc was somewhere else in the house with all the others. One option is the smallest of the Amazon cloud machines. The question becomes can I make one of these machines a domain controller? Cost wise the Amazon machine is cheaper than the power costs of keeping a server (or a PC) up and running in his home office 24x7 thanks to the high cost of power in Southern California.

  • VNC connection through machine with only SSH port open

    I would like to make a VNC connection from home to a Windows machine at work. The Windows machine is not accessible from the outside, but there is a Linux box that does have port 22 open, so it would seem that this can be done. I suspect it's just a command that "forwards" connections to port 22 on the Linux machine to the Windows machine? Just can't find an example that does exactly this though Thanks in advance!

    Can I access my iMac based iTunes library from my iPad over my home wifi? I know I can sync them up but the library is too big. Edit; just to clear(er), the movies, podcasts etc which are stored on the iMac, I want to watch them on my iPad without syncing.     When my new Dell laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and 4GB RAM sleeps (not when it hibernates), it will drain the battery overnight. My old Dell laptop with XP Pro (2 GB RAM) could sleep for days without running out of battery. Is it normal that Windows 7 sleep is this power-hungry or should I troubleshoot my new machine? Edit: I know how to set the different sleep/hibernate settings. That is not what I'm asking.

  • Installing ArchLinux into Ubuntu 12.04 root

    Is it possible to install 2 linux distros into 1 root, so they share same uuid and guid, configs and packages + same user /home folder ? For example: I have Ubuntu and Windows 7 already in dual boot on my laptop. Could I install Arch's base, base-devel and kernel, so it won't conflict with Ubuntu on the same root folder? P.S I don't feel like repartitioning my drive again, 'cause there's very complicated hierarchy, which occupies the entire disk. =)
