• How to register assemblies using Windsor in ASP.NET MVC

  This is how my project looks: TestMvc (my web project) has a reference to the DomainModel.Core assembly where my interfaces and business objects reside. The class that implements the interfaces in DomainModel.Core is in a different assembly called DomainModel.SqlRepository; the reason behind it is that if I just want to create a repository for Oracle I just have to deploy the new dll, change the web.config and be done with it. When I build the solution, if I look at the \bin folder of my TestMvc project, there is no reference to the DomainModel.SqlRepository, which makes sense because it's not being reference anywhere. Problem arises when my windsor controller factory tries to resolve that assembly, since it's not on the \bin directory. So is there a way to point windsor to a specific location, without adding a reference to that assembly? My web.config looks like this: <component id="UserService" service="TestMvc.DomainModel.Core.Interface, TestMvc.DomainModel.Core" type="TestMvc.DomainModel.SqlRepository.Class, TestMvc.DomainModel.SqlRepository" lifestyle="PerWebRequest" /> There's many ways around this, like copying the dll as part of the build, add the reference to the project so it will get copied to the \bin folder or install it on the GAC and add an assembly reference in the web.config. I guess my question is specific to Windsor, to see if I can give the location of my assembly and it will resolve it.

• Boost.Python wrapping hierarchies avoiding diamond inheritance

  I'm having some trouble seeing what the best way to wrap a series of classes with Boost.Python while avoiding messy inheritance problems. Say I have the classes A, B, and C with the following structure: struct A { virtual void foo(); virtual void bar(); virtual void baz(); }; struct B : public A { virtual void quux(); }; struct C : public A { virtual void foobar(); }; I want to wrap all classes A, B, and C such that they are extendable from Python. The normal method for accomplishing this would be along the lines of: struct A_Wrapper : public A, boost::python::wrapper<A> { //dispatch logic for virtual functions }; Now for classes B and C which extend from A I would like to be able to inherit and share the wrapping implementation for A. So I'd like to be able to do something along the lines of: struct B_Wrapper : public B, public A_Wrapper, public boost::python::wrapper<B> { //dispatch logic specific for B }; struct C_Wrapper : public C, public A_Wrapper, public boost::python::wrapper<C> { //dispatch logic specific for C } However, it seems like that would introduce all manner of nastiness with the double inheritance of the boost wrapper base and the double inheritance of A in the B_Wrapper and C_Wrapper objects. Is there a common way that this instance is solved that I'm missing? thanks.

• rails best practices where to place unobtrusive javascript

  Hi there, my rails applications (all 2.3.5) use a total mix of inline javascript, rjs, prototype and jquery. Let's call it learning or growing pains. Lately i have been more and more infatuated with unobtrusive javascript. It makes your html clean, in the same way css cleaned it up. But most examples i have seen are small examples, and they put all javascript(jquery) inside application.js Now i have a pretty big application, and i am thinking up ways to structure my js. I like somehow that my script is still close to the view, so i am thinking something like orders.html.erb orders.js where orders.js contains the unobtrusive javascript specific to that view. But maybe that's just me being too conservative :) I have read some posts by Yehuda Katz about this very problem here and here, where he tackles this problem. It will go through your js-files and only load those relevant to your view. But alas i can't find a current implementation. So my questions: how do you best structure your unobtrusive javascript; manage your code, how do you make sure that it is obvious from the html what something is supposed to do. I guess good class names go a long way :) how do you arrange your files, load them all in? just a few? do you use content_for :script or javascript_include_tag in your view to load the relevant scripts. Or ... ? do you write very generic functions (like a delete), with parameters (add extra attributes?), or do you write very specific functions (DRY?). I know in Rails 3 there is a standard set, and everything is unobtrusive there. But how to start in Rails 2.3.5? In short: what are the best practices for doing unobtrusive javascript in rails? :)

• Apple Script error: Can't get Folder

  I started using apple script today, because I wanted to be able to automatically send files to someone when they go into a specific folder. I first tried with automator, but the files were never attached into emails, so i figured i could try with apple script. At first, I tried simply create an email with an attached file. The email was created, but the file was not attached. After a while, I stumbled onto this post that was trying to list files from a folder, so I tried that just to compare it to my code. It gave me an error telling me it is impossible to list files from that folder. So I tried setting a path to a specific folder, and I got an error saying the path can't be made. This is the code I used for the last part: tell application "Finder" set folderPath to folder "Macintosh HD: Users:Jonathan:Desktop:Send_Mail" set fileList to name of every file in folderPath end tell and this is the error I got. error "Finder got an error: Can’t get folder \"Macintosh HD: Users:Jonathan:Desktop:Send_Mail\"." number -1728 from folder "Macintosh HD: Users:Jonathan:Desktop:Send_Mail". I later tried with another folder, and I always get this error, even when using the Users folder for example. Any Suggestions? thanks

• how can I add a custom non-DataTable column to my DataView, in a winforms ADO.net application?

  Hi, How could I (/is it possible) to add a custom column to my DataView, and in this column display the result of a specific calculation. That is, I currently have a dataGridView which has a binding to a DataView, based on the DataTable from my database. I'd like to add an additional column to the dataGridView to display a number which is calculated by looking at this current row plus it's children row. In other words the info for the column isn't just derivable from the row data itself. Specific questions might be: a) where to add the column itself? to the DataView I assume? b) which method / event to trigger the re-calculation of the value of this custom column from ( / how do I control this) Thanks PS. • Is there a way to unit test an async method?

  I am using Xunit and NMock on .NET platform. I am testing a presentation model where a method is asynchronous. The method creates an async task and executes it so the method returns immediately and the state I need to check aren't ready yet. I can set a flag upon finish without modifying the SUT but that would mean I would have to keep checking the flag in a while loop for example, with perhaps timeout. What are my options?

  I'm curious if it's common practice outside of the GAE platform to be able to defer tasks to background workers via webhooks. I find it particularly useful to speed up the front-end of webapps, by delegating any long process to background tasks. I'd like to hear about open source software allowing to implement a TaskQueue-like API, with webhooks preferably, if anyone has some experience in this area. Thanks!

• Speed up login to StarTeam?

  I'm working on a program that accesses StarTeam using the StarTeam SDK for .NET. And I've noticed that it takes about 10 seconds to login to the StarTeam server. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to speed that up. Edit I used this command to run the StarTeam Cross Platform client with debugging output: stjava.exe StarTeamCP.stjava -- -netmon It appears that the delay happens when it send the command SRVR_CMD_GET_USER_PERSONAL_INFO. So I don't think there's anything I can do to speed it up.

• Missing AVFoundation.framework

  Hi, AVFoundation.framework is not where the documentation says it should be. I have iPhone SDK 2.2 installed (never had previous sdk versions installed) and I can't find that folder under /System/Library/Frameworks I did find it under /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.2.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/ folder but if I add it from that location, then the compiler can't find the header files. I tried copying the entire AVFoundation.framework folder to /System/Library/Framework, but it still can't find the header files. How can I use AVFoundation classes? Thanks, Alex

• TextMate tips for Rails Development

  Working on Rails code for a bit has started me on the spiral into obsessively customising my dev environment (I say obsessive as at the last Rails meetup I went to there was some guy who was raving about shaving milliseconds off each line of code and therefore upto half an hour a day... I hope I don't become that guy...) I spend most of my time in TextMate so it seemed like a great place to start the optimising... So far I've added a few TextMate bundles like Git Bundle, Project Plus and the theme from Railscasts. I've noticed some of the other TextMate users I've come into contact with using heaps of nifty keyboard shortcuts and other plugins to help make their dev environment more friendly. Looking around the net, I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of shortcuts and plugins available... So I was hoping to hear from other Rails developers out there: What are some good keyboard shortcuts and plugins that I should be aware of for TextMate with specific reference to Rails Development? I've read this question on SO: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/99807/what-are-some-useful-textmate-shortcuts but I was wondering if there was something a bit more specific to Rails development.

• Best Practice: QT4 QList<Mything*>... on Heap, or QList<Mything> using reference?

  Hi Folks, Learning C++, so be gentle :)... I have been designing my application primarily using heap variables (coming from C), so I've designed structures like this: QList<Criteria*> _Criteria; // ... Criteria *c = new Criteria(....); _Criteria.append(c); All through my program, I'm passing pointers to specific Criteria, or often the list. So, I have a function declared like this: QList<Criteria*> Decision::addCriteria(int row,QString cname,QString ctype); Criteria * Decision::getCriteria(int row,int col) which inserts a Criteria into a list, and returns the list so my GUI can display it. I'm wondering if I should have used references, somehow. Since I'm always wanting that exact Criteria back, should I have done: QList<Criteria> _Criteria; // .... Criteria c(....); _Criteria.append(c); ... QList<Criteria>& Decision::addCriteria(int row,QString cname,QString ctype); Criteria& Decision::getCriteria(int row,int col) (not sure if the latter line is syntactically correct yet, but you get the drift). All these items are specific, quasi-global items that are the core of my program. So, the question is this: I can certainly allocate/free all my memory w/o an issue in the method I'm using now, but is there are more C++ way? Would references have been a better choice (it's not too late to change on my side). TIA Mike

• IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

  I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project.   I'm familiar with printing time difference in milliseconds: long time = System.currentTimeMillis(); //do something that takes some time... long completedIn = System.currentTimeMillis() - time(); But, is there a nice way print a complete time in a specified format (eg: HH:MM:SS) either using Apache Commons or even the dreaded platform API's Date/Time objects? In other words, what is the shortest, simplest, no nonsense way to write this in Java?

  Hello, I have an issue creating a custom report for an e-commerce store running on osCommerce. The client wants the report to have the following columns: Date, Order ID, Product Class, Product Price, Product Tax, Shipping, Order Total The criteria for generating the report are Date Range and Product Class (Textbooks for example) The client wants the report to list each Textbook purchased on its own line. Orders with multiple textbooks would display a separate line for each Textbook in the order. I have it all working except for one part: the shipping amount is order-specific (based on the order total), not product-specific, and is displaying for each product. I need it to display only for the first product of each order, so it is not counted more than once.   Version: Eclipse 4.2 Codename: Juno I don't see a fast view bar in eclipse 4.2. I can't rightclick on a view and enable fast view. The fast view options under General - Perspectives does nothing. Was the fast view feature removed or am I missing something? I've looked up at http://help.eclipse.org/juno/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.user%2Ftasks%2Ftasks-9b.htm , but that didn't helped either.

Un-focused MSN Messenger conversation windows are a good example of this behavior: they turn orange as soon as a remote user sends an instance message. My code targets the Windows 7 platform, but working on older Windows OS would be nice too.
