  Hi, I have a question : I write a little gnome applet, and when we click on a button i want to add a gtk.widget under the "gnome-panel" like the calendar of the clock-applet. But I don't know how to do this. It's my code : listButton = gtk.Button(_("lastest")) self.listTwitt = gtk.TreeView() mainLayout = gtk.VBox() mainLayout.pack_start(listButton) mainLayout.pack_start(self.listTwitt) self.applet.add(mainLayout) With this code, when i click on the button, the list shows up in the gnome panel : it's because I add it in the mainLayout. • How can I avoid causing memory leaks in Firefox?

  It seems that there is a lot of information on memory leaks in IE and how web developers can avoid them, but I can't find much on avoiding leaks in FF. I've found lots of random tips on how end users can tweak their preferences, or tips for extension developers, but little on what I can do as a web developer to make sure my pages don't leak. Am I missing something? It seems lazy to just blame it on the user and say "you've got too many extensions". Or are the major patterns the same as in IE -- circular references and all that? Also, if anyone knows of any tools to troubleshoot leaks in FF, that would be great.   I need little help with transferring data from variables, arrays, lists to my SQL Server. Im not bad in SQL, but im not familiar with DataSet, DataTable objects. My data is now stored in list of strings (List). Every string in that list looks similar to this: QWERTY,19920604,0.91,0.35,0.34,0.35,343840 There are about 900000 rows like this. Target datatypes in SQL Server: BIGINT (primary key, im not inserting it, its identity(1,1)) VARCHAR(10), DATE, DECIMAL(10,2), DECIMAL(10,2), DECIMAL(10,2), DECIMAL(10,2), INT How to convert that data to SQL Server data types? How to insert that data into SQL Server? Also i need some progress bar updates between inserts. I could do this using old-fashion SQL command, but i have learn more modern way :)

• Changing gmail Settings with Ruby

  I need to configure my gmail account(s) programmatically with Ruby. I checked out the apps api and it looks like the simplest possible solution would be to use ClientLogin for logging in and a simple XML PUT for changing the forwarding setting, for example. I wrote a little test script like so: http://gist.github.com/373457 It would appear that the call to ClientLogin works because it comes back with an Auth= token. When it sends the PUT request to google, however, it comes back with a RestClient::Unauthorized exception. I rewrote the script with pure net/https and it turns out the message I'm getting is invalid token, yet I can't figure out what is wrong with my token. Can anyone else see it?

  Hi! I am a beginner in the process of designing and coding a project, I already have all the ideas on my head, but I have a problem impeding me of continuing this project. I feel the code is ugly and unreadable and I cannot continue it this way. The project is a programming language I have on my mind, and it has small graphics capabilities. Even being beginner, I want to code it using DirectX because everybody wants it. And I want to code it entirely, not depend on any wrapper libraries like SDL. I did a refactoring of the DirectX module and it exposed all the weaks. There is Direct3D code everywhere, but the code itself does very little! I would start building a project like this using DirectX or I should use just GDI and the Multimedia API of Windows? This is a good progress for a beginner?

• DDD Infrastructure services

  Hello, I am learning DDD and I am a little bit lost in Infrastructure layer: As I understand, "all good DDD applications" should have 4 layers: Presentation, Application, Domain and Infrastructure. Database should be accessed using Repositories. Repository interfaces should be in Domain layer and repository implementation - in Infrastructure (reference http://stackoverflow.com/questions/693221/ddd-where-to-keep-domain-interfaces-the-infrastructure). Application, Domain and Infrastructure layer should/may have services (reference www.lostechies.com/blogs/jimmy_bogard/archive/2008/08/21/services-in-domain-driven-design.aspx), in example EmailService in Infrastructure layer which sends Email messages. BUT, inside Infrastructure layer we have repository implementations, which are used to access database. So, in this case, repositories are database services? What is the difference between Infrastructure service and repository? Thanks in advance!

  I recently came across Pomodoro Technique as a way to increase productivity, get in the zone, and in general feel a sense of accomplishment at setting some short programming goals and achieving them. So far I have enjoyed it and the sense of accomplishment I get after seeing a bunch of short goals add up at the end of the day to a lot of work done on a programming project. I'm looking for other ideas similar or not to the pomodoro technique to add a little variety to achieving goals, personal productivity, get in the programming zone, etc. Any ideas or techniques that are expressed formally such as in the pomodoro paper, that are not trite fluffy maxims?

• PHP - Using strcpsn() to protect against SQL injection?

  I am making a sort of form validation system and I need to check the SQL database to see if the username is already there. So, my question, is it effective to use a little if statement like this to protect against an attack? if (strcspn($string, "/\?!@#$%^&*()[]{}|:;<>,.\"\'-+=" == strlen($string)){ return true; } So essentially, if the string contains any of these characters, "/\?!@#$%^&*()[]{}|:;<>,.\"\'-+=", then the length will not equal that of the original $string. I am just wondering if this is sufficient to protect, or if there is more that I must do. Thanks.

  I'm working on a program to trigger cut and pastes Pastes i have no problem with (i just dump a string into the clipboard) Cut and or Copys are proving to be a little more difficult The program i have is out of focus and has several hot keys registered with the os ( ctrl+alt+2 ctrl+alt+3 etc) that i want to use to trigger Windows to copy anything that is highlighted in the window that is focused I tried doing a sendkeys SendKeys.Send("^c"); but that seems to work once or twice if at all then stop working. is there a better way to try to trigger windows into coping highlighted content on a different window

  I have a single page website built on bootstrap 3, that I am trying to move to Google Apps Engine. I Scaffold my sites using php, and all the content is showing but not the styles and javascript. My site is basically set up as follows _/js/bootstrap.js _/js/custom.js _/fonts/glypicon ...etc _/css/bootstrap.css _/css/custom.css _/php/ .. all my php files go here ... index.php can someone help me setup my app.yaml for this? • Is there a good web-based project management app with scheduling?

  Ideally something as intuitive as basecamp, with good usability and accessibility. The best I've seen is huddle.net but it's still weak in several areas. Must have: Projects - ability to add people & tasks and schedule tasks to people Calendar - showing when people are busy or available Role based access - Admins and non-admins History - ability to look back at all history Anyone seen a product that's worth a look? Clarification: Must be hosted i.e. not require my own hardware or IT staff I'm looking for an app to schedule people with specific tasks at specific times and monitor the outcomes. I'm already using Mingle (for stories), Basecamp (to run the business) and Exceptional (to track bugs). I'm not looking for a bug-tracking system or a story management application (I already looked at VersionOne, but chose Mingle due to it's nicer UI) My response to the answer being auto-selected: I still don't feel the answer (chosen for me) is the correct one. It's a useful list but little more, and doesn't provide the solution I was seeking.

• How shared hostings, domain names and DNS work together?

  Hi, I 've this little doubt but I couldn't find information about it, probably because I'm not searching the correct thing. When a browser ask for "www.mydomain.com", the DNS server returns an IP Address, then the browser go there... but what does happen then? I mean, that IP address could be a shared hosting that contains hundreds of web pages and domains, so how does it knows where it have to go? Is something that the web server does? is it something that I could implement in a web application? I mean, for example I have a web application that contains accounts, and each account has a default web page. You could access that page passing the account namne, for example "www.mydomain.com/myaccount", but now I want to register "www.myaccount.com" and then it will get the "www.mydomain.com/myaccount" content.   I'm writing a little homebrew ORM (academic interest). I'm trying to adhere to the TDD concept as a training exercise, and as part of that exercise I'm writing documentation for the API as I develop the class. Case in point - I'm working on a classic "getCollection" type mapper class. I want it to be able to retrieve collections of asset X (let's say blog posts) for a specific user, and also collections based on an arbitrary array of numeric values. So - you might have a method like any one of these $User = $UserMapper->load(1); $ArticleCollection = $ArticleMapper->getCollection(range(10,20)); $ArticleCollection = $ArticleMapper->getCollection($User); $ArticleCollection = $ArticleMapper->getCollection($User->getId()); So, in writing the documentation for the getCollection method - I want to declare the @param variable in the Docblock. Is it better to have a unique method for each argument type, or is it acceptable to have a method that delegates to the correct internal method/class based on argument type?

  Hey guys, I am new to android programming and i am trying to make an app that will interface with a website i have. It is a movie website with all of its information stored in SQL database. I know how to write the requests and queries in .asp but dont know how to get information from the database in my app. I want the user to be able to enter a movie title, and through a couple of stored procedures that are in my SQL database, return the info on that movie(actor, budget, genre....). I would like to have little info stored on the device, have all of the queries being sent to my SQL server and just have the info being returned. • How to load mht from stream/string into a WebBrowser control?

  The WebBrowser control loads properly any mht file if I use the Navigate method, but when I use the DocumentText or DocumentStream properties, the source of the mht file is displayed as if I opened the file in notepad. If I write the stream to a temp file then Navigate to it, it works properly, but I don't want to do it this way. This issue seems common, but I didn't find a working solution for it. Some people suggest I should fool IE by implementing IPersistMoniker com interface, ...etc. I have tried with this a little bit, but unfortunately I got the same result. May be I have done something wrong. I still feel their should be a more straightforward solution (other than saving in a temp file first), any idea?

• Does an HTTPS SharePoint Site Need to Use HTTPS-Compliant Web Parts?

  I am new to SharePoint, so this question may be a little naive. However, I sincerely appreciate any help with this. We are planning to create a new sub-site within our company's intranet site, which is built on SharePoint 2007. We want to add a 3rd-party weather web part (which is just a widget to display the local weather forecast) to the home page of the new intranet site. Since the intranet site uses HTTPS, do we need to find an HTTPS-compliant web part? Or, is it possible to use any web part and then configure it to use HTTPS? I'm assuming that if we use a non-HTTPS web part, then users will get some sort of "This page contains both secure and non-secure items" error message when they load the page.

• Split text files Accross threads

  The problem: I have a few text files (10) with numbers in them on every line. I need to have them split across some threads I create using the pthread library. these threads that are created (worker threads) are to find the largest prime number that gets sent to them (and over all the largest prime from all of the text files). My current thoughts on solutions: I am thinking myself to have two arrays and all of the text files in one array and the other array will contain a binary file that I can read say 1000 lines and send the pointer to the index of that binary file in a struct that contains the id, file pointer, and file position and let it crank through that. a little bit of what I am talking about pthread_create(&threads[index],NULL,calc_sqrt,(void *)threadFields[index]);//Pass struct to each worker Struct: typedef struct threadFields{ int *id, *position; FILE *Fin; }tField; If anyone has any insight or a better solution it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

• Is Microsoft CCR gaining any traction?

  Microsoft's Concurrency and Coordination Runtime quite literally saved a project that was running into major issues with deadlocking. Since then I find that I use it more and more frequently for almost anything that requires asynchronous coding producing results that run lighter and faster than before. I can honestly state that it has transformed the way I think about multithread/multicore dev. Despite my personal love for CCR, there appears to be very little buzz surrounding it on the web and was wondering if anyone can offer any reason for this. Are there better alternatives, or is it a lack of promotion from MS, or are people simply happy with the existing tools?

• Subsonic foreign key returning collection?

  I'm just writing my first "Hello World" program using Subsonic, for which I've thrown together a simple little Customer/Invoice/InvoiceItem/Product database. The connection was successfully made to the DB, and it generated all the right ActiveRecord classes. But for some reason, the Invoice class has a property called Customers, which returns a collection of Customer objects, even though the Invoice table has a CustomerID field which has a foreign key to the Customer table. I would have expected a Customer property returning a single Customer object. I must be doing something wrong - but what?

• Final Integration Testing for Q.A.

  A medium sized rails app that our company has been working on is getting close to the end of development and we are going to start doing Q.A. testing on it. We've have been writing unit, functional and integration tests all along and our test coverage is about 99% (even though that really doesn't mean anything). We feel like we have a pretty good test suite but I was wondering if we should be writing final integration tests for every little action we are going to do during our Q.A. process. If so, would using Shoulda or Cucumber be a good idea? We haven't used either of those testing tools yet, but they sound really great. Any ideas or thoughts would be really helpful. Thanks
