• About sqlite use.

  Hi, There are some things my application needs to do on first start up(first startup after update) . These actions could be described in a .txt file and then when it is the case read the file and do according to it ,or on the other hand (I lean to use this option) a sqlite database could be used to store the information . The apk file would be shipped with an .txt file/prebuild sql db stored in res/raw or res.asset and then copied into proper space and used. This I have figured out how !, though I'm not sure which option of this two would be the fittest ? One thing that is unclear to me is how could sqlite version mismatch affect me, and if it serious enough to take into consideration ? I 'm using Android api level 4 (Android 1.6) and the future application might be used on several different devices , with different api levels.

• Storing Templates and Object-Oriented vs Relational Databases

  I'm designing some custom blog software, and have run into a conundrum regarding database design. The software requires that there be multiple content types, each of which will require different entry forms and presentation templates. My initial instinct is to create these content types as objects, then serialize them and store them in the database as JSON or YAML, with the entry forms and templates as simple strings attached to the "contentTypes" table. This seems cumbersome, however. Are there established best practices for dealing with this design? Is this a use case where I should consider an object database? If I should be using an object database, which should I consider? I am currently working in Python and would prefer a capable Python library, but can move to Java if need be.

• How to refresh an activity? Map View refresh fails

  Hi Guys, after implementing some Android Apps, including several Map activities, I try to refresh the activity when the GPS listener's onLocationChanged() mehtod is called. I have no idea how to tell the map activity to refresh on its own and display the new coords... the coords to store will have to be in global values, so that the location listener will have access to it. • What to write in "Web location" field when starting an "New website" in Visual Studio 2010?

  I want a website to be deployed automatically to a local IIS (built in Windows XP Pro SP3), avoiding VisualStudio-built-in server if possible. I'd like development source files to be stored in a project folder outside wwwroot (I wouldn't mind built files to be copied to wwwroot each time I press F5). I don't store my projects inside default directories inside "My documents". What should I specify as in "Web location" when starting an "New website" in Visual Studio 2010? A deployment path in wwwroot, a folder where I'd like to save my project, or something else? I want the website to be a part of a complex solution in VS 2010, also icludinc a class libray project, a WinForms application project, a Windows Service project and a common Entitity Framework data model.

• Serializing array in PHP, preventing injection

  I'm writing a PHP script which uses serialized arrays to store data. How can I prevent injection in serialization? It would be very easy to name your account: something";s:6:"access";s:5:"admin"; for a simple example. The user could then add the rest of the needed parameters somehow. Would addslashes work for this? Does the php unserialize pick up on that as being an escaped character? If so, is it possible to apply addslashes to an entire array without iterating through? I have many similar methods in a servlet. And I have many servlets too. If I want to disable cache throughout the application, what should I do? • calculated colum or stored proceedure or just php funcion needed ?

  I have an order table in MySQL database and is has a field/column which store the dattime stamp of when the order was placed and I need to calculate when the order must be shipped. I could probably figure out how to right a function to calculate the ship date and call that when ever needed but I think, not sure it may moake more sense to have the shipdate as a column that is somehow calculate in mysql. that being said I have Never used a stored procedure or created a calculated field. the later I think would be best but again not sure. I used to make calculated field all the time in FMP but I've gotten away from that program. if someone could point me in the right direction or tell me why it would be better to do it one way over another I'd appreciate it . thanks Mike

  Hi, I have a datagrid with customer data such as ID, name, email, phone etc. When I select a row (with a button or selectionchanged) I want to store that row's columns in variables like dim email as string dim name as string email = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell name = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell If I have a datatable with only one row I know I can get column data with: dim email as string = CustomerDataTableInstance.rows(0).Item("Email") I don't know how to get the selected row number though when I have several rows and the user clicks one/uses the keyboard. The datagrid is bound to a datatable, not a class with object collections. Any help is appreciated!

The content script handles the storage functionality (chrome.storage manipulation). Whenever, a user changes a setting in the options page, I want to send a message to the content script to store the new data. Something like Dictonary<string,object,bool> would be ideal, but doesn't exist. • Is frameworks really necessary for this problem?

  Hi Guys I'm creating an online music store application (in Java) for signed and unsigned artist for my client. I'm currently using Struts 1.3.10 (I was recommended Spring but Spring setup is sort of similar to Struts) for my Web application. My Database is currently a MySQL 5 (or higher) and I'm using a DAO pattern to talk to it. There are limitations to using Struts and DAO's (e.g. Multiple File upload in Struts is not implemented the same way as multiple String parameters, and for DAO's, there lacks a Publish-Subscribe feature). Is what I'm doing the best way forward or should I go straight Hibernate (or similar) and move out of Struts? What are the performance implications or technical issues that you've experienced with the same setup I have? The client doesn't care how I do it as long as it is done.

This web server will post data to a SQL server and we're trying to determine the best methodology to handle this. Things that concern us are web service authentication, SOAP, and whether or not to store the database on the DMZ or the local network. This same scenario will apply to ASP.Net apps. • How to think in data stores instead of databases?

  As an example, Google App Engine uses data stores, not a database, to store data. Does anybody have any tips for using data stores instead of databases? It seems I've trained my mind to think 100% in object relationships that map directly to table structures, and now it's hard to see anything differently. I can understand some of the benefits of data stores (e.g. performance and the ability to distribute data), but some good database functionality is sacrificed (e.g. joins). Does anybody who has worked with data stores like BigTable have any good advice to working with them?

• API access to a manually-created Google Map

  I have a number of public custom Google Maps created via http://maps.google.com/ - obviously associated with my google account. Can I access these maps via the Google Maps javascript api? The api doesn't appear to work with the manually created maps located on maps.google.com from what I can tell? And if not, is there another way to store overlay data (markers, etc) that the javascript api can grab and load into the map on the client's browser? Am thinking a service like dabbleDB, except that I don't think they offer write access via javascript (this would be necessary for the user adding markers to the map, for example) Obviously I could create a db layer on my server, but am looking for a 'cloud' solution that removes the strain from my databases!!

  I'm writing a database of all DVDs I have at home. One of the fields, actors, I would like it to be a set of values from an other table, which is storing actors. So for every film I want to store a list of actors, all of which selected from a list of actors, taken from a different table. Is it possible? How do I do this?   Hello I'm trying to develop a function that can sort through a string that looks like this: Donny went to the {park|store|{beach with friends|beach alone}} so he could get a breath of freash air. What I intend to do is search the text recursively for {} patterns where there is no { or } inside the {}, so only the innermost sandwiched text is selected, where I will then run a php to array the contents and select one at random, repeating process until the whole string has been parsed, showing a complete sentence. I just cannot wrap my head around regular expressions though. Appreciate any help!

  All, We are building a windows-ce (6.0R3) based device that requires guaranteed and audit-ready message delivery (including store & forward) up to and down from the cloud. I have been looking for choices beyond: MSMQ a proprietary solution (what our prototype device is using) AMQP (research on using this in our context is now starting) ... are there any others?
