My app uses a StringBuilder to assemble paragraphs of text which are then displayed in a TextView within a ScrollView. The displaytext.xml layout file is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="#FFFFFF" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <ScrollView android:id="@+id/ScrollView01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/display_text" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textColor="#000000" > </TextView> </ScrollView> </LinearLayout> and the code that displays the StringBuilder object sbText is setContentView(R.layout.displaytext); TextView tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.display_text); tv.setText(Html.fromHtml(sbText.toString())); This works OK, except that it gets very slow as the amount of text grows. For example, to display 50 paragraphs totalling about 50KB of text takes over 5 seconds just to execute those three lines of code. Can anyone suggest how I can speed this up, please?

Convert charset in mysql query

Hi, I have a question about converting charset from inside mysql query. I have a 2 databases. One for the website (joomla), the other for forum (IPB). I am doing query from inside joomla, which by default have "SET NAMES UTF8". I want to query a table inside the forum databases. A table called "ibf_topics". This table has latin1 encoding. I do the following to select anything from the not-utf8 table. //convert connection to handle latin1. $query = "SET NAMES latin1"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); $query = "select id, title from other_database.ibf_topics"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); //read result into an array. //return connection to handle UTF8. $query = "SET NAMES UTF8"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); After that, when I want to use the selected tile, I use the following: echo iconv("CP1256", "UTF-8", $topic['title']) The question is, is there anyway to avoid all this hassle? For now, I can't change forum database to UTF8 and I can't change joomla database to latin1 :S

Ajax Request using jQuery in Rails

Hi... I am sending an Ajax Request using jQuery. What happens is that I am getting an "405 Method Not Allowed" Error. I am just posting a form, which would get the detail from the form and insert it into the DB. Just the usual stuff.I am using WEBrick that comes as default with the rails package. (Android) Seems like my JSON query is getting double encode

Hi, I am getting some weird errors with my Android App. It appears that this code is double encoding the JSON string. What should be sent is ?{"email":"[email protected]","password":"asdf"} or ?%7B%22email%22:%22..... what the server is seeing is %257B%2522email%2522:%2522 .... which means the server sees %7B%22email%22:%22 ..... This confuses the server. Any ideas why this is happening? Okay. Now I give up. I have been playing with this for hours. I have a variable name $data. I want to access the headers value (on the second line above) - simple: $data->headers I want to access the headers value (on the fourteenth line after the stdClass:: stuff) - how? How can I possibly access the values within the stdClass::__set_state section? I tried var_export($data->parts); but all I get is NULL

Downloading a webpage in C# example

I am trying to understand some example code on this web page: (http://www.csharp-station.com/HowTo/HttpWebFetch.aspx) that downloads a file from the internet. The piece of code quoted below goes through a loop getting chunks of data and saving them to a string until all the data has been downloaded. As I understand it, "count" contains the size of the downloaded chunk and the loop runs until count is 0 (an empty chunk of data is downloaded). My question is, isn't it possible that count could be 0 without the file being completely downloaded? Say if the network connection is interrupted, the stream may not have any data to read on a pass of the loop and count should be 0, ending the download prematurely. Or does ResStream.Read stop the program until it gets data? C#: socket closing if user user exists

Hi to everyone I'm trying to create a server/client application for a school project. This is the scenario: a server on a given port, multiple user connected, each user has it's own username. Now I want to check if a user that try to connect to the user use a valid username, for example if a user with username A it's already connected a new user that want to connect cannot use the username A. If this happen the server answer to the new client with an error code. Mono won't fire the following code: I get internal server error 500, error writing request error. Code works perfectly under normal .net.... any ideas why its broken and how to fix it? Cannot display converted value inside xml field

PS: My bad, there was not an error. I forgot to upload the latest version to the server... I have multimedias and images table. I save images in multimedias table with their images table id numbers. Then whenever I need image's url, with a simple function I get it from images table. The problem I am having is when I try to display image's url inside ImageURL, it just does not happen. WCF REST Starter Kit not filling base class members on POST

I have a WCF REST Starter Kit service. The type handled by the service is a subclass of a base class. For POST requests, the base class members are not correctly populated. The class hierarchy looks like this: [DataContract] public class BaseTreeItem { [DataMember] public String Id { get; set; } [DataMember] public String Description { get; set; } } [DataContract] public class Discipline : BaseTreeItem { ... } The service definition looks like: [WebHelp(Comment = "Retrieve a Discipline")] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "discipline?id={id}")] [OperationContract] public Discipline getDiscipline(String id) { ... } [WebHelp(Comment = "Create/Update/Delete a Discipline")] [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", UriTemplate = "discipline")] public WCF_Result DisciplineMaintenance(Discipline discipline) { ... } Problem: While the GET works fine (returns the base class Id and Description), the POST does not populate Id and Description even though the XML contains the fields.
