• Why increase pointer by two while finding loop in linked list, why not 3,4,5?

  I had a look at question already which talk about algorithm to find loop in a linked list. I have read Floyd's cycle-finding algorithm solution, mentioned at lot of places that we have to take two pointers. One pointer( slower/tortoise ) is increased by one and other pointer( faster/hare ) is increased by 2. When they are equal we find the loop and if faster pointer reaches null there is no loop in the linked list. Now my question is why we increase faster pointer by 2. Why not something else? Increasing by 2 is necessary or we can increase it by X to get the result. Is it necessary that we will find a loop if we increment faster pointer by 2 or there can be the case where we need to increment by 3 or 5 or x.

  Hi, i have simple question may be someone asked it before me but i could not find it.Let say i have datatable that has some data from the database and i want to bind it to a combobox i use standart code like this comboBox1.BeginUpdate( ); comboBox1.ValueMember = "id"; comboBox1.DisplayMember = "name"; comboBox1.DataSource = dt; comboBox1.EndUpdate( ); The problem is during this binding the event SelectedValueChanged is fired.The problem is that rebind combo several times when outher values change and every time i must do sometihn like this comboBox1.SelectedIndexChanged -= new System.EventHandler( this.comboBox1_SelectedValueChanged ); my question is there a smarter way to skip the event when i comes from databinding not from user input.The problem is that i want to do it some how globaly in my control that inherits combobox and not to do it everytime in every from Best Regards, Iordand

• How to automate login to Google API to get OAuth 2.0 token to access known user account

  Ok, so this question has been asked before here. In the response/answer to the question, the user tells him to store the token in the application (session and not db, although it doesn't matter where you store it). After going through the documentation on Google, it seems that the token has an expiration date after which it is no longer valid. Now, we could obviously automatically refresh the token every fixed interval, thereby prolonging the lifespan of the token, but for some reason, this manual process feels like a hack. My questions is: Is this most effective (/generally accepted) way to access google calendar/app data for a known user account by manually logging in and persisting the token in the application? Or is there another mechanism that allows us to programmatically login to this user account and go through the OAuth steps?

My question is: Let's say I have the following code.. char* buf = (char*) malloc(1024); ... for(; i<20; i++) { if(read(fd, buf, 1024) == -1) { // read off a file and store in buffer perror("read failed"); return 1; } ... } free(buf); what i'm trying to get at is that - what if an error occurs at read()? does that mean my allocated memory never gets freed? • What can I use the Google App Engine for?

  This question possibly doesn't belong here. We'll see how the answers pan out, if this doesn't belong here please move it to where it belongs. I'm following the getting started guide for Google App Engine, and I'm seeing what it can and can't do. Basically, I'm seeing it's very similar to an MVC pattern. You create your model, then create a View that uses that Model to display information. Not only that, but it uses a controller of some kind in this fashion: application = webapp.WSGIApplication( [('/', MainPage)], debug=True) My question is, why would you use this Google App Engine if it's the same as using a number of other MVC frameworks? Is the only benefit you gain the load balancing being handled by Google automagically? What is a good example of something you would need the App Engine for? I'm trying to learn, so thanks for the discussion.

  Hi, This is a question about installing driver. I have the following files : aaa.cat aaa.inf x86\ttt.sys I can install this driver by clicking "update driver" in device manager. But now I need to install this driver on Windows (XP, Vista and Win7) by using C++. How could I do this? On the other hand, I can't use install shield or other tool to do the job. That is why I am asking this question. Thanks in advance. I have found this page, which mentioned SetupInstallFile and SetupInstallFileEx functions. • Install windows service without InstallUtil.exe

  Hi, I'm trying to deploy a windows service but not quite sure how to do it right. I built it as a console app to start with, I've now turned it into a windows service project and just call my class from the OnStart method in the service. I now need to install this on a server which doesn't have Visual Studio on it, which if I've understood it correctly means I can't use the InstallUtil.exe and have to create an installer class instead. Is this correct? I did have a look at a previous question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/255056/install-a-net-windows-service-without-installutil-exe, but I just want to make sure I've understood it correctly. If I create the class that question's accepted answer links to, what is the next step? Upload MyService.exe and MyService.exe.config to the server, double click the exe file and Bob's my uncle? • Loss of precision - int -> float or double

  I have an exam question i am revising for and the question is for 4 marks "In java we can assign a int to a double or a float". Will this ever loose infromation and why? I have put that because ints are normally of fixed length or size - the precision for sotring data is finite, where storing information in floating point can be infinite, essentially we loose infromation because of this Now i am a little sketchy as to whetehr or not i am hitting the right areas here. I very sure it will loose precision but i cant exactly put my finger on why. Can i getsome help please Thanks

• ASP Force Download

  In PHP I can do: header("Content-type: application/octet-stream") and then anything that I output is downloaded instead of showing in the browser. Is there a similar way to do this in ASP? I have seen about all the file streaming and such using ADODB.Stream, but that doesn't seem to work for me and always requires another file to load the content from. Bit of an ASP noob, so go easy on me. :p All I want to do is have a script that outputs a CSV and that will force download instead of showing in the browser. • Maven Quick-start Guide

  I'm tasked with getting a development environment set up for a new program at work. The lead has chosen Eclipse as the IDE for its OSGi support and Maven as the build utility. I've struggled through getting Maven integrated with Eclipse and I'm grudgingly declaring success and moving forward. My question: is there any sort of guide to getting started with Maven? I've found boatloads of documentation, most all of it very, very detailed and simultaneously unhelpful. I downloaded a 300+ page book that goes into excruciating detail about POMs, but doesn't tell you how to initialize a project from existing source. Hopefully, this question will result in a pointer to something I missed or a collection of links for those who follow me.

  Hi there, This is just a general question relating to some high-performance computing I've been wondering about. A certain low-latency messaging vendor speaks in its supporting documentation about using raw sockets to transfer the data directly from the network device to the user application and in so doing it speaks about reducing the messaging latency even further than it does anyway (in other admittedly carefully thought-out design decisions). My question is therefore to those that grok the networking stacks on Unix or Unix-like systems. How much difference are they likely to be able to realise using this method? Feel free to answer in terms of memory copies, numbers of whales rescued or areas the size of Wales ;) Their messaging is UDP-based, as I understand it, so there's no problem with establishing TCP connections etc. Any other points of interest on this topic would be gratefully thought about! In naive bayes we have formula like cmap=argmax.P(d|c).P(c) I have standarize the amount of training document of each class, so I got a same P(c) value for each class (0.25). Here's my question: What if a testing document token doesn't have any token which belong to any of those 4 class(in document training)? Resulted to all of the class have same value of P(d|c).P(c). Which class should i pick? What if the token exist, and 2 class or more have same value of P(d|c).P(c) what should I do? Thank you..

So I apologize in advance, but if some piece of code would help, please let me know and Ill add it. The question is, how do I confirm that a pdf loaded in a web browser when using Ruby/Cucumber/Watir Webdriver? My test clicks on a random link that should load a pdf in a new browser window, so I cant check the url because it will vary with each test. Any ideas how I can make sure the correct pdf loads after clicking the link that should load it?

Are there uni's that still teach Pascal, for example? I mean, it was good 30 years ago, but... now? Why? Why not Java, C#, Haskell? Related: Is it backwards to still teach LISP?   hello, i'm beginner at android development. i want to create an activity, which shows a question with 4 answers, and at the bottom of the screen i want to place a timer. i have already found timer example, and i created a question with the answers. the problem that they are 2 different projects and activities, and i am looking for the best way to implement it. i think i can't show 2 activities on one screen, but i can show 2 views or shell i use the ViewGroup, or maybe to copy-paste one of the activities code to another ( its the easiest way but probably the most ugliest way to implement it). please tell me what is the best way, that i will study and not to waste time to study all the ways and only then to choose one of them. thanks!

• iPhone toolbar shared by multiple views

  Another iPhone noob question. The app I'm building needs to show a shared custom UIToolbar for multiple views (and their subviews) within a UITabBarController framework. The contents of the custom toolbar are the same across all the views. I'd like to be able to design the custom toolbar as a xib and handle UI events from its own controller class (I'm assuming I can subclass UIToolbar to do so?). That way I could define IBOutlet & IBAction items, etc. Then I could associate this custom toolbar with eachs of the UITabBarController views (and their subviews). But I'm having trouble finding out whether that's possible - and if so, how to do it. In particular, I want to be able to push new views onto UINavigationControllers that are each associated with parent UITabBarController tabs. So, to summarize, I want a: custom toolbar shared by multiple views which are managed by multiple navigation controllers and the navigation controllers are associated with different tabs of a parent tab bar controller The tab bar controller itself is launched modally, though I don't believe that's relevant. Anyway, the tab bar controller is working, as are its child navigation controllers. I'm just having a little trouble figuring out how to persist the shared toolbar to the various subviews. I'd settle for a good clean way of implementing programmatically... though I'd prefer the flexibility of keeping the toolbar's visual design in a xib. Anyone have any suggestions?

My question is: is it necessary to use Runnable in this example? Can I use any different interface? Something like: ID(int), namePerson(string), homeLocation(string), workLocation(string) where homeLocation and workLocation can both be null. Now I want all the different locations that are used merged into a single list. • Hibernate object equality checking

  As far as I understand(correct me if I am wrong) Hibernate uses object reference to check the object equality. When Hibernate identifies that there are more than one objects attached to same DB record, it throws following exception. "a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session" My question is, does Hibernate use equal() method to check the object equality (The default equal method uses object reference)? If it is true, will overridden equal() method change the Hibernate behavior? Note: My question is not about the issues of implementing equal() or hashCode() methods in a Hibernate persisted object. • Unix timestamp and mysql date: birthdate

  Hi, I have a really basic question concerning unix timestamp and mysql date. I'm trying to build a small website where users can register and fill in their birthdate. Problem is that unix starts with Jan 01 1970. Now if i calculate age for users, form dates like date('m.d.Y', $unix_from_db) and so on it will fail with users older that 40 years, right? So what would be the rigth way for doing this. Sorry, for basic question like this, but I'm inexperienced with php and mysql.

• Displaying "broken" sprites?

  I'm quite new to the world of 2D-Engines. I figured out how to load images and display those as sprites and stuff, but theres one question that bugs me. For instance, when a "rocket" hits an object it will deal damage to it and leave a crater behind. I'd like to have the crater shown on that object. That would require "skipping" some of the pixels of that image when rendering, doesn't it? My question is, how would you do such a thing? What data strcture would you use to save this? How to display a "broken" sprite?
