• Git on Windows 7 expecting Linux? /dev/null not found error

  I have installed git (not GitHub) on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, and I cannot get it to work. Opening Git Bash outputs the following: Welcome to Git (version 1.9.4-preview20140815) Run 'git help git' to display the help index. Run 'get help <command>' to display help for specific commands. sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory Andy@ANDY-DELL ~ $ If I open the Git GUI, I get a this box: Title: git-gui: fatal error Content: fatal: open /dev/null or dup failed: No such file or directory Git Gui requires Git 1.5.0 or later. I also tried GitHub for Windows, but I got an internet connection error when attempting to clone a repo, even though my connection is fine. Is this possibly related? I have learned so far that /dev/null is the Linux version of the Windows NUL, but why is it trying to do this on Windows? Thanks in advance.

  I want to set both the script and the "Use automatic configuration script" checkbox in Windows 7 using a script that immediately affects anything using wininet.dll (Internet Explorer, Chrome, .NET apps, etc). I've done a before/after registry diff, and tried doing this through the registry, but things like the reg files below require the apps to be restarted. Chaning the settings by pressing the "LAN Settings" button through this Control panel shortcut has immediate affect: %windir%\system32\control.exe Inetcpl.cpl,,4 How can I script this immediate effect?   I have a hybrid asp.net web forms / mvc application that I recently converted to .net 4 with mvc2. I have set-up that application to run on IIS 7.5 (on Windows 7) and the web forms part of the site is running okay but the MVC part is not. Whenever I try and access a page that needs to go through the routing engine I get HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 I'm debugging this web site through VS2010 (so I've set-it-up to use IIS instead of Cassini) and when I put a break point in the Application_Start function it is never hit so the routes are never registered. When I put a break point in the Page_Load function in one of the aspx page code-behinds it gets hit. So it seems that the problem is that the route is not being registered. What am I missing?

• Can I change the file system on the OS partition on Server 2008 R2?

  I have a client using R1Soft Continuous Data Protection backup, and two of the Server 2008 R2 boxes were erroring out with these errors: Unable to obtain NTFS volume data for device '\\?\Volume{f612849e-7125-11e0-8772-806e6f6e6963}': Incorrect function. Unable to discover information for filesytem volume '\\?\Volume{f612849e-7125-11e0-8772-806e6f6e6963}'; Unable to obtain NTFS volume So I backed up all the registry entries with this, {f612849e-7125-11e0-8772-806e6f6e6963}, in it, and deleted them based on some VERY sparse info from R1Soft. I then decided to restore them before I rebooted, and do a system state backup first using MS backup, and even it errored out saying that there were FAT32 partitions. This was a major clue as the only two computers with problems had these FAT32 partitions. I figured if MS backup can't backup something, any other program is likely to have problems. Also, now that I realized the servers had FAT32 partitions on them, the error referencing NTFS takes on more weight. The partitions on both servers have the label "OS", but on one of the computers, it is given a letter, but on the other not. So I am thinking if I just convert the file systems from FAT32 to NTFS, it may solve the backup problem. So the question is this: Can I just convert those partitions, and does anyone have any concrete knowledge of any major downsides, like the servers not coming back up (of course, I would do one at a time)? My thinking is that the answer is probably at least 95% no, but they are production servers, so I wanted to get some second opinions.

• How can I get TFS 2010 to build each project to a separate directory?

  In our project, we'd like to have our TFS build put each project into its own folder under the drop folder, instead of dropping all of the files into one flat structure. To illustrate, we'd like to see something like this: DropFolder/ Foo/ foo.exe Bar/ bar.dll Baz baz.dll This is basically the same question as was asked here, but now that we're using workflow-based builds, those solutions don't seem to work. The solution using the CustomizableOutDir property looked like it would work best for us, but I can't get that property to be recognized. I customized our workflow to pass it in to MSBuild as a command line argument (/p:CustomizableOutDir=true), but it seems MSBuild just ignores it and puts the output into the OutDir given by the workflow. I looked at the build logs, and I can see that the CustomizableOutDir and OutDir properties are both getting set in the command line args to MSBuild. I still need OutDir to be passed in so that I can copy my files to TeamBuildOutDir at the end. Any idea why my CustomizableOutDir parameter isn't getting recognized, or if there's a better way to achieve this?

  I am supporting an ASP.Net 3.5 web application and users are experiencing a timeout error after 30 seconds when trying to run a report. Looking around the web it seems it's easy enough to change the timeout in the code, unfortunately I'm not able to access the code and recompile. Is there anyway to configure the default for either the web app, the worker process, IIS or the whole machine? • Why do (Russian) characters in some received emails change when reading in David InfoCenter?

  I'm using David InfoCenter as email Software, and I have troubles with some of my emails in Russian. It's only a few letters, in some emails (sent from different people), like for example the "R" ("P" in russian) will be shown as a "T". In other emails in Russian, the problem doesn't appear. Isn't it strange? Does anyone had the same problem already and found where it came from? When I transmit that email to an external mailbox (internet email account), it's even worse, and gives me symbols instead of all Russian letters... The default encoding was "Russian (ISO)", I changed it to "Russian (Windows)", but same problem. Another weird reaction is when I write an intern email and name it TEST in Russian (????), with ???? in the text window, it changes the title to "Oano"? But the content stays in Russian... With Mailinator I got the following, for message and subject "????": Subject: ???? However the physical folders located inside a website cannot be read using this class. And for my case i need to read sub folders located within a website and later on set permission on them. For my requirement i dont need to work on Virtual Directories/Web Service Applications (which can be easily obtained using the code below..).   I have a UISearchBar added as my table header with the following code. searchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] initWithFrame:self.tableView.bounds]; searchBar.tintColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:185.0/255 alpha:1.0]; [searchBar sizeToFit]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = searchBar; Then I set my UISearchDisplayController up as follows. searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:searchBar contentsController:self]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; Everything functions as I would like except that the UISearchDisplayController has added a blue(ish) border above the search bar — this bar does not recognise the tintColor I have set on the search bar. Is it possible to change the color of this bar? It is obviously not absolutely crucial but that line is going to bug me forever if it stays blue like that!

Precisely if i am pointed at the right class (like IISWebVirtualDirSetting etc ) that i may use for retrieving the list of physical folders within a website then it will be quite helpful. I am not working in Powershell and i don't really need a solution that involves powershell or vbscripts. Any alternative programmatic way of doing the same in C#/ASP.Net will also be highly appreciated.

• Windows somehow got convinced that a file is a folder. How do I change it back?

  I recently moved an external drive from my usb-enabled router to my desktop machine, and ran into some permissions-related issues. A number of files were giving me errors when I tried to take ownership or set permissions, and in all my fiddling on a particular file, it somehow got switched to a folder.   When I run GTK applications on KDE, they use the QtCurve theme that matches my color and font scheme as configured in the KDE System Settings application. However GTK applications run as superuser use the old default GNOME, regardless of whether I run them with kdesudo, gksudo, or sudo on a terminal. For example, here's gedit run as superuser on top, and under my normal user account on the bottom: Strangely, KDE applications run with kdesudo display the default Oxygen styling but use my settings when run with sudo on a terminal. Is there any way to configure the stying GTK applications use when run as superuser on KDE?

• MacBook Pro 15in High-res hard to read. What setting should I change?

  I just bought a new MacBook Pro with the high-res screen (1680x1050), but I noticed that all text is so small that to read it my face has to be like 18 inches away. When I adjusted the resolution to be the next sizes down (1440 x 852, and 1440 x 852 stretched), as well as all the other smaller sizes it made everything look blurry (similarly to when you use Command + Scroll to zoom in, how the text is really soft on the edges, and difficult to read). Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing, or another resolution settings area that I can use. I feel like this 2800 dollar notebook may be only good for movie watching otherwise. • How to change the fonts used in Foxit Reader?

  I really want to use Foxit Reader as my default PDF reader for its Tab Interface, and low memory footprint. Having tried mutiple times over the years the only thing that is stopping me are the Fonts. PDF in Adobe Reader looks Regular, but PDF Rendered in Foxit Looks Ugly. Would this solution works in Chrome as well? Since i record Chrome is using Foxit Reader as its embedded PDF engine. And is there any reasons why Fonts are used differently in Adobe and Foxit Reader?
