• Will I get penalised by google for overflow hidden? [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How bad is it to use display: none in CSS? 5 answers I have 2 divs next to each other, div A and div B. Div A displays a whole wordpress post and div B displays about 15 excerpts of posts with the same tag. To get this looking nice I set the hight of div B to be the same as the hight of div A with javaScript. This means alot of post excerpts will be hidden due to overflow hidden on div B. Will Google penalise me for this, and if so, how can I make this work and still please Google? Ps. I would gladly prevent the excerpts from being indexed but the main post must be indexed Ds.

  I am studying the gameloop used in Replica Island to understand a bit about Android game development. The main loop has the below logic... GameThread.java (note the variable names in sample code dont match exact source code) while (!finished) { if (objectManager != null) { renderer.waitDrawingComplete(); //Do more gameloop stuff after drawing is complete... } } I was curious to see what waitDrawingComplete actually does, but found its just an empty syncrhonized method! I guess it does nothing, am I missing something here? • How to force GNOME panels et. al. to display on a different monitor without mirroring?

  So, I recently purchased a new 23" monitor for my PC. However, I can't use it with the PC currently as I am waiting on a replacement heatsink. In the mean time, I wanted to use it with my Dell laptop. I hooked it up to the VGA port, and it seems to be working properly. However, I wanted to know if there was a way I could move all of the main display elements over to the attached monitor? I wanted to shut the LCD panel off on the laptop and hook it up like a desktop. Relevant specs: Ubuntu 10.10 x64 Intel graphics chipset The attached monitor is currently set as the default monitor. Any suggestions are welcome. :)

This option brings in a complimentary color in various shades along with the main color that you select on the color wheel. You also have the option of specifying various adjustments to the schema. You can make it pastel, more contrast, less contrast, gray tones, etc. You can also view a preview page as a light page or a dark page to see how the colors might be applied.  Once you have everything the way you want it, you can switch over to the final tab and get the color list. Now none of us have an excuse for questionable color combinations.

• Site inaccessible by some people, fine for others [on hold]

  A couple of days ago my website www.howellphoto.com (hosted by one.com, wordpress site) started loading really slowly, and I have been unable to access any pages linked from the homepage. Several of my friends have found the same issue, yet many are able to access the site without problem. Live support at one.com have not been all that much help, requesting the ip addresses of a few people who cannot access the site, and saying it could be a firewall issue. Wordpress support (my site was created in prophotoblogs) have been better and have updated all plugins, etc, but can see no issue from their end. My main issue is that even if there was a local fix that I could do on my computer, this would not help wih any potential customers visiting my site for information! This is driving me crazy!!! • XNA stopped compiling my model x files

  So I've a 3d game project I'm working on and I'm using 2 model files (SkyBlock.x and AimedBlock.x). So until now everything was all good and my models files were compiled all okay and I was able to use them within my game. With the latest changes (which I don't know what caused it really) - XNA stopped compiling my model files and instead only outputs files; AimedBlockxnb - 1kb SkyDome.xnb - 1kb SkyDomeTexture.xnb - 1389 kb SkyDomeTexture_0.xnb - 419 kb So I created a test XNA game project and moved all my asset's to new solution content project's and tried compiling them and saw that they're all good. AimedBlockxnb - 2kb SkyDome.xnb - 13kb SkyDomeTexture.xnb - 4097 kb SkyDomeTexture_0.xnb - 683 kb So I guess my main project sucks there but I couldn't came with a solution. I even tried overwriting my game's content project with new game's content project (which was all okay) but it didn't work. Anybody had similar issues?

• Why does IDLE continue to crash? [migrated]

  Idle keeps crashing and I can't figure it out. After restarting the computer and reinstalling Python, none of which seemed to work, I looked to my peers and was told to "install one of the Tcl/Tk". After getting another opinion I was also told that I already had this and found it to be true but decided to try it anyway since it continued to crash. Nothing has improved and I have an assignment due. Any ideas on why this continues to happen and what I can do to fix the crash? • What is the best strategy for licensing a desktop application using a web service, when all I need to know is when people use the product?

  Our company's main application is a desktop program that is used at warehouses and written in C# and Windows Presentation Forms. The next thing we want to be able to do is track when customers open up the application and when it is being used. The reason for this is so we can charge them per month, based on if they are/arn't using the application. My boss is having me research different ways to "license" the product under these requirements. Not having any experience doing this, a few things come to mind. I could create a web application that runs on a server, and every time the desktop application is opened and the user logs in, the application connects to the server and marks a database with the DateTime. Or is there licensing software that I can use to accomplish this? Just looking for tips/advice from people who have experience with this type of stuff.

• A peculiar issue with nm-applet

  There is a somewhat strange error that I've noticed with my gnome sessions. It's not a problem that causes a lot of trouble, but at times it becomes annoying. Anyway, here it is: when I fire up gnome-session-fallback (which is the main one I use), the network applet doesn't run with root permission. From the regular session I can easy edit and add networks, but from fallback session I cannot add/edit anything, or turn off/on the wireless or networking. Any ideas?

• USC gives "failed to download package files" message - how to fix?

  Trying to download a program (Advanced Settings aka Gnome Tweak tool) from USC and getting this error "Failed to Download Package Files: check your internet connection". Under details is info: Failed to fetch http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/network-manager/gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0_0.9.1.90-0ubuntu4_i386.deb 404 Not Found Question: how to fix? Note: I tried downloading another program from USC (GnuCash) and it worked fine. And my internet connect is working fine (able to surf the web, etc) and Ubuntu is fully up to date and is able to download updates. It seems to be a problem just getting the "Advanced Settings" program. (Ubuntu 11.10).

• Will learning wxpython worth it in future? [on hold]

  As we know that microsoft has been pushing Windows 8.1 which strongly uses XAML to design the app and for windows desktop mode WPF is another framework (which probably some thinks it fails) However, in old times, developer write windows form software using MFC or something alike that they have to do their own main loop, etc, etc, and I recently loves python and learning python certainly worth it, since there are still ironpython out there that uses .NET, but I am not sure whether my move to also learn wxpython for building windows software that does not requires .NET worth it also i notice wxpython is somehow old and still uses python 2.7, while today, python already version 3.3, beside that the books are old book published in 2007, and there seems no much hype on building windows form without .NET anymore because .NET is mostly preinstalled in new windows version. So my humble question is, whether should I learn python + wxpython or only python? Is there any benefit that I might not notice for capable in writing windows application that does not use .NET?

• Logitech Wireless Keyboard & mouse not working aftesr upgrade to 12.04?

  I upgraded my Dell Dimension 9200C to 12.04 Precise Pangolin with no issues, I ran it fine for a night but when I went back in a couple days later my Logitech Wireless Keyboard K350 and M510 mouse weren't active when booted. I can boot into an older version from the main the boot screen the mouse and keyboard work, but the network stack is gone. It says the networking manager on this version is not compatible. I'm scratching my head, it isn't the mouse and keyboard, they work fine on my dual boot, and they load fine in Knoppix. They did work fine on 12.04 for 1 night. Open to suggestions before I re-install completely.

  I'm polishing an old project that i released some years ago, and the main purpose on that, is to arrange some folder structures and port the entire code from actionscript to haxe. All the game features, assets and design will remain the same. I have some doubts regarding versioning the project in this circumstance. Assuming that the only thing that will be drastically changed is the code migration, is it correct maintaining the new project changes on the same repository ? I was thinking in tagging it something like V1.1 or Branch the entire project. But i'm afraid that i'm gonna deviate from the versioning patterns. • Should I use events in this case?

  I'm creating a video player, like a custom YouTube player. All of the GUI elements (progress bar, video player, play button, ...) are different classes, but I obviously need them to communicate. When the progress bar is clicked, or the slider is moved, it needs to send a "seek(x)" command to the video player. Similarly, the video player needs to update the progressbar every frame. Currently I'm doing this by having almost all elements have a link to each other. So when I create the progress bar, I'm telling it where the video player is. But after a while this becomes more and more complicated, and I'm wondering if events would be a better way to do this. Or a main controller class that has all the connections. What should I do?

  I have a question regarding Client Side prediction. Ive tried to search topics about my specific problem but couldn't find anything which really answered my problem. Most tutorials and explanations assume that the Client sends messages like "Move my player up by 1 Position", but what if i send messages like "Set my player's velocity to x"? Since it's hard to explain with text, i made a graphic explaining my problem. The main problem is, that the player sets his own velocity, due to Client Side Prediction, earlier than the Server. • Safest way (i.e. HTTPS, POST, PGP) to send decryption keys through the web?

  I am in the final stages of development for my Revit plugin. This plugin is programmed in C#, and distributed via a DLL. One of the DLLs is an encrypted SQLite database (with proprietary data) that is in the form of a DLL. Currently, in development stages, the decryption key for the SQLite database is hardcoded in my main DLL (the program's DLL). For distribution, since DLLs are easily decompilable, I am in need of a new method to decrypt the DLL. My solution is to send our decryption keys from our servers securely to the host's computer. I was looking in POST, thinking it was more secure than GET, but upon research, it appears it's similarly insecure, only more "obscure" than GET. I also looked into HTTPS, but Hostgator requires extra money for HTTPS use. I am in need of some advice - are there any custom solutions I can do to implement this?

  I'm a little confused as to whether I should install Ubuntu on its own partition on my hard drive, use VirtualBox or another virtualization package to install it, or use Wubi to install it directly on top of my current OS (Win 7). I definitely want to learn and use Ubuntu, so this is not just for playing around with it. Also, if I choose to partition, should I partition the hard drive myself or should I let the Ubuntu installation menu do it for me? I understand that I am going to need a main partition, for Ubuntu's core components, and also a swap partition. Then there is the option to add a partition for "home"- I don't understand what combination of these partitioning options I should choose, or whether it is better to partition in Windows before I install Ubuntu or just partition my hard drive when I install Ubuntu itself

• Computer restarts when I choose my Lucid install from GRUB

  Hey, I have 4 OS's on my netbook, it's really more a toy. However, in my main OS (Ubuntu Lucid) is some data I don't like to lose. Today, whenever I choose this install from GRUB, the netbook (Asus eeePC 1001P if it's of help) waits 5 seconds (no kernel messages) and then reboots. The other entries (backtrack, Linux From Scratch, Windows XP) work fine. Can anyone hint me to where the error could be? It's not GRUB, right? So a reinstall wouldn't help? Is it the kernel? I'm afraid I didn't remember when and what the most recent automatic updates were.
