• HUD keeps popping up when watching movie in movie player

  When I watch a movie in Movie Player, the HUD pops up every 8 minutes or so. I am not touching the keyboard or the mouse at all. Alt makes the bar go away, and then 7-8 minutes later, it pops up again. This happens when I'm watching fullscreen or not fullscreen. Can you help me fix this? I've been using VLC instead (because it does not have this problem), but I don't like it as much as Movie Player.

• How can I create a 3D model in Java without using modeling software?

I have been recently creating and updating games using AWT, Swing, and Graphics, but I want to delve farther into Java. I have looked into Java3D, but it's not what I want. I want to use Images and then crop the Image and place the respective textures in their respective places. I already know how to do the cropping and 2D Image editing, but how do I go 3D?

• acer 1551 suspend/hibernate bug?

  I put 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer 1551. It does not want to wake from suspend or hibernate. I have tried several different solutions to the apparent problem, but none have worked for me. Similar problem: Acer Aspire 1551 Will Not Wake After Suspend I tried what it suggested, no go. Also, I think it is taking my acer a while to boot-up what can I look into that may be causing it? I am new to ubuntu, and would like some help! thanks

  I applied for a Web developer job in Quebec City, and they called me back for a phone interview. Everything went well, it last for over a hours, and at the end they ask me to send code simple and a portfolio, but in my research about the company and their products I found a PHP error(bug) in their app. Should I tell them or I would that make me look like a total jerk and blow my chance for a interview? I know it might sound stupid. As a junior developer I did 2 interviews they didn't go so well. I am very interested in this position part of my question is like a big lack of confidence so to make it short should I tell them about where is the error and how to fix it? Thanks

• How can I import models from Blender into jMonkeyEngine?

  I have some blender model files (Blender version 2.6) which I would like to use with the jMonkeyEngine SDK. However, when I use Blender's native .obj exporter, I can't import it in jMonkeyEngine (the model simply fails to import or looks messed up). I've tried importing .obj files or .blend files directly into the jMonkeyEngine SDK to no avail. I've also tried to use various OGRE exporters to export .scene and .material files, but only the .scene file is created. Is there a simple way to simply export files from Blender into the jMonkeyEngine SDK? EDIT: I seem to have found something in Blender. When I go under addons, there's a warning in the OGRE exporter; "'.mesh' output requires OgreCommandLineTools". However, I have already installed those tools under the C drive. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

• Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta Released!

  Just thought I’d pass on the word that the Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta is now available to download. VS2010 SP1 Beta ships with a go live license which means you can start using it for production work though I’m not sure I’m going to be that brave until I check it out a bit first. Jason Zanders has a blog post outlining the new features/fixes included in the beta. Here are a couple BREAKING news items you’ll want to TakeNote of… VS2010 SP1 Beta BREAKS ASP.NET MVC 3 RC Razor IntelliSense. A new ASP.NET MVC 3 RC2 installer will be released very soon that will allow you to upgrade in-place. VS2010 SP1 Beta BREAKS the Visual Studio Async CTP. To configure windows search to search by contents you need configure the following: You need to make sure Windows Search Services feature is activated.(Check this article for details) Then, configure Windows Search by Open file explorer: Press Alt button –> go to tools –> Folder options –> search tab –> Here select, “Always search file names and content(this might take several minutes)” Press okay. Now your searches will work for file content like the good old days of XP. Another way to search the contents in file without Search configuration is to Type “contents:” in the Windows Explorer search box followed by the word, searches text files. This is a search filter which seems to be undocumented?

This is the brainchild of Jen McCown, who posted the second of these recently. I’m actually a bit late in responding, as I haven’t got it in my head to look for these posts yet. Still, Jen says I can still contribute now, hence this post. The theme this time is on Tech Giants. I could list people all day for those I admire in the SQL Server space, and go on even longer if I branch out to other areas. But I actually want to highlight four guys that I admire so much for their skills, integrity and general awesomeness that I hired them. Yes – the guys that work for me at LobsterPot Solutions, being Ben McNamara, David Gardiner, Roger Noble and Ashley Sewell. I admire them all, and they present the company with a platform on which to grow.

• rts libgdx design?

  I am attempting to create a simple rts multi-player strategy game using libgdx. I am stumped at the moment. I want the underlying game world to run at all times and be aware of where all items are on the map.. so if player A logs in and moves unit to some location on the grid and logs off, that unit info is still there and can be accessed again by player A when they log back on to move somewhere else (if it didnt get attacked during the playerA was logged off). How can i do this? Do i create a main game world on the server and when players connect make client just sequentially request whats in each visible tile? Is there an easier way to get this done? Or go SQL route? Whats better?

This month's Oracle Profit magazine features an interview with KIND Healthy Snacks Founder and CEO Daniel Lubetzky entitled "Better Business". • Asciidoctor / NetBeans

  With Jason Lee's NetBake plugin (https://bitbucket.org/jdlee/netbake), when you've installed JRuby and then the Asciidoctor gem, you're good to go to use Asciidoctor with NetBeans IDE. New Asciidoc files can be created, which have a Source view... ...and a Visual view. The current content of the text editor is parsed by the Asciidoctor gem and the resulting HTML is displayed in a JEditorPane: Awestruct support is also part of the NetBake plugin, with a new project type and other related features. An Options window is included for configuring the plugin: I've been in touch with Jason and we're discussing separating the Asciidoctor parts from the Awestruct parts and then putting them seperately as plugins on the NetBeans Plugin Portal.

• Magento Bulk Product Import + Modules Nightmare

  Have 5,000 products in CSV file File has been re-saved as UT8 file in google documents and exported to CSV from excel File loads perfectly with all fields in demo of magento store manager (except we dont want to buy it:) When trying to upload in regular Magento..keep getting error messages on column duplicates....yes we have hundreds of duplicates as the titles of products in fields correspond with different sizes, etc...no way around it Any solutions around this or any open source software similar to store manager that can do the trick. Ready to give up and go to paid solution such as Big Commerce Also, Uploaded a bunch of free modules/keys...of open source bulk import products from magentocommerce but I cant find them anywhere in the main admin panel to use...there is no menu item for them anywhere??

• What are the relative merits for implementing an Erlang-style "Continuation" pattern in C#

  What are the relative merits (or demerits) for implementing an Erlang-style "Continuation" pattern in C#. I'm working on a project that has a large number of Lowest priority threads and I'm wondering if my approach may be all wrong. It would seem there is a reasonable upper limit to the number of long-running threads that any one Process 'should' spawn. With that said, I'm not sure what would signal the tipping-point for too many thread or when alternate patterns such as "Continuation" would be more suitable. In this case, many of the threads do a small amount of work and then sleep until woken to go again (Ex. Heartbeat, purge caches, etc...). This continues for the life of the Process.

• BizTalk 2009 - Project Creation Failed

  A couple of weeks ago I had some issue with my BizTalk Server 2009 development environment  which resulted in a reinstall of Visual Studio 2008 and the Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1. Following this reinstall I began to have problems when trying to create  BizTalk 2009 projects: Error Details: “Create BizTalk Project …. Project Creation Failed” It turns out that this is a known issue with BizTalk Server 2009 and Visual Studio 2008, whereby the installation of the Visual Studio Service Pack 1 can cause corruption to the BizTalk installation preventing the creation of any new projects. To resolve this issue go to control panel > add or remove programs > Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009 and select Change or Remove.  When the window opens choose “Repair”.  Upon completion you should once again be able to create BizTalk projects.

I am considering putting together some effects specifically geared toward games and indie developers that desire to get a working prototype quickly off the ground. Is there a need for this, or is there another standard "go-to" spot for this kind of thing? I want to offer value to the community but wanted to assess the need first. • can't use flash in ubuntu 13.10

  Since I upgraded to ubuntu 13.10, my flash isn't working anymore in firefox or opera. It only works in Google Chrome as it is included in the browser. I did check that I have flash plugin for firefox and so on installed. Everthing did work before the upgrade. When I try to install from adobe's website, it doens't pick up anymore the apt installer/ software center. You have to physically to go and look for the correct program to install flash, but I don't know where to look for it or choose it. Is there a other way like in terminal or somewhere else to reinstall it? Or what can I do?

• Developing an ELO like point system for a multiplayer gaming site

  I'm currently working on a gaming site where users will submit virtual players for different games, like Chess, Nash, Backgammon, Go, etc. The idea is that users don't compete themselves, but through their virtual players. There will be leagues, tournaments, and other competition formats. The question is which would be a good rating system for users in this environment. Take into account that every user may have many different virtual players playing in many different games. As a general guideline I would like to guarantee the following properties: Users who have a lot of mediocre players should not score higher than users with a few very good players. A user with a high rating should not be penalized if he adds a new bad player, until he has had enough time to improve his player. Users who don't play often should not score higher than users who play every day. Thanks in advance.
