• Website looks weird in internet explorer 7, but fine in IE 6 and 8

  I used many different browsers while I was coding for a new site (Firefox, Chrome, IE8, Opera, Safari, Mobile devices, etc...). It looked the same across all browsers. I recently uploaded the site onto the server and got to look at it from work, using Internet Explorer 7 and It looks horrible. Elements are floating wild all over the place, but I cant figure out why. The weird thing is I just looked at it from IE6, and it looks fine, with the exception of unsupported transparencies in PNG's. If anybody has IE7, you can view the site here. Thanks

• Checking if date parsing is correct

  Hello, I have this code for checking whether the Date is OK or not, but it's not ckecking all the cases. For example when text="03/13/2009" as this date doesn't exist in the format "dd/MM/yyyy" it parses the date as 03/01/2010. Is there any way to change this behaviour and getting an exception when I try to parse a Date which is not correct? • TcpListener.Start() does not open the port

  Hello, I have a class that inherits from the TcpListener, this class Shadows the Start method just to call the base Start() and the base BeginAcceptTcpClient(). From time to time the method is called but the port is not opened (netstat does not show the port open). The class looks like this Public Class ExtendedTcpListener Inherits System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener Public Shadows Sub Start() SyncLock (m_stopLock) MyBase.Start() MyBase.BeginAcceptTcpClient(AddressOf Me.CompleteAcceptTcpClient, Me) My.Application.Log.WriteEntry("Extended Tcp Listener started ...", TraceEventType.Verbose) End SyncLock End Sub Any idea on what's happening or how to debug the issue? As the Start() is called without exception I expected to find the port always opened (the log is always written). Extra information: when the Start method works fine it works each time until app is restarted. When the Start method does not work it won't work again until the app is restarted.

  I have marked certain properties in my domain object for the nhibernate validation 'framework'. If I do this in my controller explicitly: ICollection<IValidationResult> test = bla.ValidationResults(); I get the validation errors which I could add to my asp.net mvc modelstate ideally, i would like an exception being thrown during: bla = blaRepository.SaveOrUpdate(bla); if i try to save or update the domain object. why is this not happening? my domain object bla derives from Entity. do I have to register something somehow? My question is how can I do the rendering on the command line, by using HAML program. • How can I prompt for input using Selenium/Webdriver and use the result?

  I would like to allow for user input and make some decisions based on it. If I do this: driver.execute_script("prompt('Enter smth','smth')") I get a nice prompt, but I cannot use it's value. Is there any way of showing an input box to the user, and use the value typed there?   This piece of code used to work in MVC 1 but it does not since I upgraded to MVC 2: <%=Html.ActionLink(Resources.Localize.Routes_WidgetsCreate, "Create" + "?modal=true", "Widget", null, new { rel = "shadowbox;height=600;width=700", title = Resources.Localize.Routes_WidgetsCreate })%> I am aware it has something to do with the way ActionLink encodes things, so the result that comes out is something like this: "http://localhost:53704/Widget/Create%3fmodal%3dtrue" The problem is, when clicked, the Shadowbox modal opens up and inside, where the request View should be rendered is this exception: Server Error in '/' Application. A potentially dangerous Request.Path value was detected from the client (?). What can I do to get past that? Do you recommend another way of sending params to the view besides in QueryString (in this case I need "modal" because in the view I select CSS styles based on whether we are rendering modal or not)?

  Hello. I wish to use the Translator classes of Zend framework in my app, but I don't want to include the whole framework. I grabbed the: Locale folder Translate folder Exception.php Loader.php Locale.php Registry.php Translate.php and copied into a custom folder named zend.translator. Obviously I had to edit all them to adjust the includes to the new path... Is this the way to go? I'm worried to have to edit all those files every time a new version is released.

  I am trying to use NHiberanate with NDbUnit but I cannot as NDbUnit tried to load MySql.Data version 1.0.10.1 and NHibernate tries to load version 6.2.2.0 and I can only reference one of them.   I have a route like following, ideally I would like it to match: domain.com/layout/1-slug-is-the-name-of-the-page routes.MapRoute( "Layout", // Route name "layout/{id}-{slug}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = @"\d+$" } ); But when I hit the url, I am keep on getting this exception: The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter 'id' of non-nullable type 'System.Int32' for method 'System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult Index(Int32)' in .... The above route will match the following though: domain.com/layout/1-slug or domain.com/layout/1-slug_permalink Seems like the hyphen that separates the ID from the Slug is causing issues.

• How do I fix this JBoss EJB client authentication issue?

  I have an EJB deployed under JBoss (we're moving a project to it from Weblogic), I can get an EJBHome reference to the EJB via a JNDI lookup. The login-config.xml is set to use the module org.jboss.security.auth.spi.BaseCertLoginModule. When my client code tries to invoke the create method via reflection, calling invoke, I get an InvocationException which wraps an AccessException, which wraps a final exception of javax.security.auth.login.FailedLoginException: Password Incorrect/Password Required at org.jboss.security.auth.spi.UsernamePasswordLoginModule.login(UsernamePasswordLoginModule.java:213).... Am I missing some client code to use BaseCertLoginModule instead of UsernamePasswordLoginModule? Thanks in advance, any suggestions appreciated, apologies for not posting the entire stacktrace but it's on a secured network without internet access.

• MVC2: "File not found" after view is painted

  This is wierd. First, I'm building a site based on someone else's framework (Piers Lawson: Creating a RESTful Web Service using MVC ), so I'm not entirely sure what's going on under the covers. But when I run it in VS 2010 by pressing F5, it brings up the Home page, and THEN traps an error in Application_Error. The error is "File does not exist" exception. But I have no idea what file it's looking for. Where does flow control go after the View is finished displaying? How can I break to find out what it's looking for?

But if #1 is replaced by Pattern p = Pattern.compile("\d");, it gives compiler error saying illegal escape character. In #1 I also tried printing the pattern specified in the command line arguments. It prints \d, which means it is just getting replaced by \d in #2. So then why won't it throw any exception? At the end it's string argument that Pattern.compile() is taking, doesn't it detect illegal escape character then? Can someone please explain why is this behaviour?

  We are using JMX for communication between different EARs on the same Websphere application server (6.1). All works well if we only use Java types as arguments, but if we use or own the problem is that we get ClassCastExceptions on the receiver side. This is obviously a classloader problem: if the jar with the argument types is put into the JRE endorsed directory, such that all classloaders use exactly the same class, the Exception disappear. But we would much prefer to put the library that defines the argument types in the EAR itself. Now my question: is there a trick to persuade WAS to serialize and deserialize the arguments during the JMX call? I guess in this case the ClassCastException would dissappear.

• How to implement List, Set, and Map in null free design?

  Its great when you can return a null/empty object in most cases to avoid nulls, but what about Collection like objects? In Java, Map returns null if key in get(key) is not found in the map. The best way I can think of to avoid nulls in this situation is to return an Entry<T> object, which is either the EmptyEntry<T>, or contains the value T. Sure we avoid the null, but now you can have a class cast exception if you don't check if its an EmptyEntry<T>. Is there a better way to avoid nulls in Map's get(K)? And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null, so don't say just use nulls.

  This isn't a direct coding question but more of a OS handling mechanism. I was reading somebody's previous question regarding C# and file handling. Apparently C# was throwing an exception regarding a file being locked when trying to access this. So my question is, does C# use an internal lock to handle file I/O between processes, or does the OS use some type of mutual exclusion for file I/O? From what I learned about operating systems, well at least unix, is that the OS doesn't implement any type of mutual exclusion for processes trying to access the same file.

  Hi guys, I'm unhappy from GAE because - One can't have a global variable and the 'synchronize' keyword. Instead one have to catch a basically DB transcational exception and retry in a while loop - which will eat all my free CPU time and will start costing me money as I reach the google's qouata. Is it safe to use synchronize inside a doPost() in tomcat? (i guess that it's ok as long as all the servlets are running on on 1 VM?). • Rspec-rails doesn't seem to find my models

  Hi - I'm trying out rspec, and immediately hit a wall when it doesn't seem to load db records I know exist. Here's my fairly simple spec (no tests yet). require File.expand_path(File.dirname(__FILE__) + '../spec_helper') describe SomeModel do before :each do @user1 = User.find(1) @user2 = User.find(2) end it "should do something fancy" end I get an ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound exception, saying it couldn't find User w/ ID=1 or ID=2, which I know for a fact exist. I set both test and development databases to point to the same schema in database.yml, so this shouldn't be database mixup. I also ran script/generate rspec after installing the gems (rspec, rspec-rails), and gem.config both environment.rb and test.rb. Any idea what I'm missing? thanks. EDIT Seems I was running the tests with rake spec:models, which emptied the db and thus no records were found. When I used % spec spec/models/some_model_spec.rb, everything worked as expected.

  Is it valid to declare @OneToOne and @NotNull on both sides of a relationship, such as: class ChangeEntry { @OneToOne(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @NotNull ChangeEntryDetails changeEntryDetails; } class ChangeEntryDetails { @OneToOne(cascase=CascadeType.ALL) @NotNull ChangeEntry changeEntry; } I can't find anything that says this is invalid, but it seems that during persistence at least one side of the relationship must be violated. (Eg., if writing changeEntry first, changeEntryDetails will be null temporarily). When trying this, I see an exception thrown not-null property references a null or transient value. I'd like to avoid relaxing the constraint if possible, because both sides must be present.

  If I have the following input (excluding quotes): "The ancestral territorial imperatives of the trumpeter swan" How can I collapse all multiple spaces to a single space so that the input is transformed to: "The ancestral territorial imperatives of the trumpeter swan" This is going to be used in a trigger function on insert/update (which already trims leading/trailing spaces). Currently, it raises an exception if the input contains multiple adjacent spaces, but I would rather it simply transforms it into something valid before inserting. What is the best approach? I can't seem to find a regular-expression replace function for PL/pgSQL. There is a text_replace function, but this will only collapse at most two spaces down to one (meaning three consecutive spaces will collapse to two). Calling this function over and over is not ideal.
