• Display graph without saving using pydot

  Hello all I am trying to display a simple graph using pydot. My question is that is there any way to display the graph without writing it to a file as currently I use write function to first draw and then have to use the Image module to show the files. However is there any way that the graph directly gets printed on the screen without being saved ?? Also as an update I would like to ask in this same question that I observe that while the image gets saved very quickly when I use the show command of the Image module it takes noticeable time for the image to be seen .... Also sometimes I get the error that the image could'nt be opened because it was either deleted or saved in unavailable location which is not correct as I am saving it at my Desktop..... Does anyone know what's happening and is there a faster way to get the image loaded..... Thanks a lot....

  My application checks a number of domains to see if they are valid (approx 100). I have the following code to check a single domain: def self.test_url uri, limit = 10 if limit == 0 return get_error_messages("001") end begin url = URI.parse(uri) response = Net::HTTP.start(url.host, url.port).request_head('/') rescue SocketError => e return get_error_messages("002") end case response when Net::HTTPRedirection then test_url(response['location'], limit - 1) else return get_error_messages(response.code) end end The code checks for the response code while taking into account redirects. This works fine. The only problem I have is when I put this in a loop I want it to run in parallel. So I don't have to wait for domain 1 to respond before I can request domain 2. I have managed this in PHP using curl_multi to run the requests in parallel. Is there a similar thing I can do in Rails?

• C/C++ function definitions without assembly

  Hi, I always thought that functions like printf() are in the last step defined using inline assembly. That deep into stdio.h is burried some asm code that actually tells CPU what to do. Something like in dos, first mov bagining of the string to some memory location or register and than call some int. But since x64 version of Visual Studio doesent support inline assembler at all, it made me think that there are really no assembler-defined functions in C/C++. So, please, how is for example printf() defined in C/C++ without using assembler code? What actually executes the right software interrupt? Thanks.

• How can I refresh a page via jQuery and ensure that there's a connection?

  Hi! I toyed around with .load() and .ajax(), but i didn't get to an end. Here's what I need: Everey minute the function shall check if it can load a certain page. if the connection succeeds, I want the page to be refreshed, if not, nothing shall happen, the script shall retry later. • Creating a relative path to a Database in Asp.net for a library

  In school I am part of a team of four working to create a GUI to translate the paper records of a made-up company and their functionality to a digital format. We're using an ASP.NET website for this purpose. Basically we use stored procedures and C# classes to represent the database. The folder we're using for the project contains the site and the libraries in separate folders. If I try to open the site from the folder containing both these elements the site will not run. I want to know if there is some way I can set up a relative path to the database in the Settings.Settings.cs file (or by some other means) of my libraries so I don't have to constantly change the database location for the connection string value every time we move the project. I suppose I should also mention that the database is in an App_Data folder.

• GCC compiler -- bug or unspecified behavior?

  When I have conflicting definitions of the ivars of a class in objective-c (not redeclaring the class in the same file, but rather naming the same class with diff ivars, no warnings or better yet errors are issued by the compiler. However, both sets of ivars are useable by the appropriate methods in the respective files. For instance Foo.m: @interface foo { int a; } - (int)method; @end @implementation foo - (int)method { return a; } @end Bar.m: @interface foo { float baz; } @end @implementation foo (category) - (float)blah { return baz; } @end compiles without warnings or errors. Is this intentional? Is this an unchecked error? (for the record, a and baz are actually the same memory location.)

• Run .exe packaged in .jar

  I am trying to merge 2 programs I have made to one .jar file. One program is a .jar written in java and the second one is an .exe written in c++. I put both files to the new .jar, wrote this code but it didn't work. When this code was exported to .jar and executed neither of 2 files ran and I got error "no main manifest attribute, in merged.jar" in cmd. • Does a CPU assigns a value atomically to memory?

  Hi! A quick question I've been wondering about for some time; Does the CPU assign values atomically, or, is it bit by bit (say for example a 32bit integer). If it's bit by bit, could another thread accessing this exact location get a "part" of the to-be-assigned value? Think of this: I have two threads and one shared "unsigned int" variable (call it "g_uiVal"). Both threads loop. On is printing "g_uiVal" with printf("%u\n", g_uiVal). The second just increase this number. Will the printing thread ever print something that is totally not or part of "g_uiVal"'s value?   Hi, I have a windows form project using VS2010 and I am deploying using clickonce. I need the application to work offline as well as online. I have configured the prerequisite - .net client profile 4 and set the location to the same as the application. Everything seems to work as expected, but upon testing I have found it takes 5+ minutes to install the .net client profile 4 and it also requires a reboot. Why does it take so long to install offline (I thought this was going to be mega fast like promised? And why does it require a reboot!!!!????

  friends, I have to trouble you as I couldn't find a solution after trying for a long time. I have 3 columns of data. x, y, and the stress value (S) at every point (x, y). I want to generate a 2D color plot displaying continuous color change with the magnitude of the stress (S). The stress values increase from -3*10^4 Pa to 4*10^4 Pa. • Is this plain stupid: GIT Sharing Via DropBox?

  I realize that there are similar questions, but my question is slightly different. I'm wondering whether sharing a bare repository via a synchronized DropBox folder on multiple computers would work for sharing code via GIT. Really what I want to know is: is sharing a GIT repo via DropBox (the repo gets updated on each person's local drive) the same as sharing it from one centralized location, e.g., via SSH, git or HTTP? Is this the same or different from sharing a GIT repo via a shared network drive? Note: This is not an empirical question: it seems to work fine. I'm asking whether the way a GIT repo is structured is compatible with this way of sharing. EDIT To clarify/repeat, I'm talking about keeping the GIT repository on DropBox as a bare repository. I'm not talking about keeping the actual files that are under source control in DropBox.

• Mercurial adding new file gives no match found error

  I have a strange problem with updating Mercurial. Everytime when I add a file to my repository and then update another location of the repository (for example with in CI process), the error "no match found" occures. Then when I remove to whole folder and clone it again there are no problems and the new added file(s) are there. Updating and removing doesnt give problems When I do "a" Verify the following is shown: data/test.txt.i@54: missing revlog! 54: empty or missing test.txt test.txt@54: b80de5d13875 in manifests not found 3 integrity errors encountered! (first damaged changeset appears to be 54) Any idea what could be causing this?

• How do I print array values in a range when values are supplied?

  My php reads in xml and I want to ouput the values within a given range. I have no way of knowing the size of the array or the range. However, I do know where to start; I have a $key that holds my current location. I also know where to stop; I have the word "ENDEVENTS" between each set. I want to get the values from my current position ($key) to my end position ("ENDEVENTS"). for example i may have an array set like this: Array( [0]=1 [1]=apple [2]=straw [3]=bike [4]=ENDEVENTS [5]=15 [6]=hair [7]=shirt [8]=nose [9]=kiwi [10]=ENDEVENTS ) My code knows when I'm on 15 (in this example $key=5). I want to print 6 through 9. I tried using foreach but it's thats causing issues with what I'm trying to produce. Any ideas?

  Hello, Hopefully my title was descriptive enough to attract the right help. I want to write a function that will return 1 thing, and modify a provided pointer in another. My current function declaration is . . . char * afterURL replaceURLS(char * body) What I want to do is copy all of body's data into a new string, and set body to point to this new data. • Can I modify an ASP.NET AJAX History Point?

  I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 with AJAX and have enabled history on the Script Manager. I have 2 pages, Default.aspx and Default2.aspx. I'm using the AJAX History on the Default.aspx page and saving history points on the server-side. There are some dropdowns on Default.aspx that I don't want to save a history point for each change but would like to save the latest state so that when I click on a link on Default.aspx that navigates to Default2.aspx, when I click the back button on Default2.aspx to return I want the dropdowns to reflect what they were prior to clicking on the hyperlink. So what I'd like to do is modify the history point that I originally set on one of my ajax async postbacks on the client-side before the page navigates away to Default2.aspx. There is a location.hash javascript property that looks like it may do what I want but when I modify the value the Script Manager Navigate event is firing. Is there a way to prevent this event from firing? And would this then do the job?

  Hi, This is my doubt on what we regard as a "unit" while unit-testing. say I have a method like this, public String myBigMethod() { String resultOne = moduleOneObject.someOperation(); String resultTwo = moduleTwoObject.someOtherOperation(resultOne); return resultTwo; } ( I have unit-tests written for someOperation() and someOtherOperation() seperately ) and this myBigMethod() kinda integrates ModuleOne and ModuleTwo by using them as above, then, is the method "myBigMethod()" still considered as a "unit" ? Should I be writing a test for this "myBigMethod()" ? Say I have written a test for myBigMethod()... If testSomeOperation() fails, it would also result in testMyBigMethod() to fail... Now testMyBigMethod()'s failure might show a not-so-correct-location of the bug. One-Cause causing two tests to fail doesn't look so good to me. But donno if there's any better way...? Is there ? Thanks !
