• Why is there no IronPerl (Perl for .Net)?

  I'm a bit disappointed that there doesn't seem to be any effort to make Perl a first-class citizen of the .Net world. I've read a few 'reasons' in the past but I don't see why they can't be overcome (different garbage collectors, hard-to-parse syntax, part of CPAN modules couldn't be ported, different communities, ...). Activestate has a Perl.Net product but it's a hack (in the good sense) around a standard interpreter and some syntactic sugar to interoperate with .Net assemblies. A few years ago they stopped they visual studio integration of Perl citing lack of interest. That was a while ago, before all the changes to .Net to make it more 'dynamic'. Am I the only one who yearns for IronPerl?

• Populate a combo box with one data tabel and save the choice in another.

  I have two data tables in a data set for example lets say Servers: | Server | Ip | Users: | Username | Password | Server | and there is a foreign key on users that points to servers. How do I make a combo box that list all of the servers. Then how do I make the selected server in that combo box be saved in the data set in the Server column of the users table. • Middleware for MongoDB or CouchDB with jQuery Ajax/JSON frontend

  I've been using the following web development stack for a few years: java/spring/hibernate/mysql/jetty/wicket/jquery For certain requirements, I'm considering switching to a NoSQL datastore with an AJAX frontend. I would probably build the frontend with jQuery and communicate with the web application middleware using JSON. I'm leaning toward MongoDB because of more dynamic query capabilities, but am still considering CouchDB. I'm not sure what to use in the middle. Probably something RESTful? My preference is to stick with Java (or maybe Scala or Groovy) since I'm using tools like Drools for rules and Shiro for security. But then again, I want to pick something that is quick an easy to work with, so I'm open to other solutions. If you are building ajax/json/nosql solutions, I'd like to hear details about what tools you are using and any pros/cons you've found to using them. Thanks!

  Hi, I am using Kohana V 3.0.3. I was looking for ACL library and found from http://dev.kohanaphp.com/projects A2 Kohana's ACL module. Apparently it's found that, it manages Roles,Resources and Rules using config file and authenticate object basis. I want it to be dynamic, like Resources and Rules should be loaded from database dynamically if valid user logs in. Auth part is done now looking for ACL part. Is it possible to use same A2 module with database or need to rewrite own logic?

• Java Web Service - Faulty Services - ClassNotFound Exception

  My Project has 2 java files (A.java and B.java in same package). A.java uses methods in B.java. And, an external jar has been added in the project build path. In order to create a web service (bottom up) from the class, I created a new Dynamic Web Project in Eclipse with axis2 as the runtime platform, and imported A.java and B.java source files. Next, since all my methods that need to be exposed are contained in A.java, I right click on it and created web service using the standard settings. When I deploy the web service on my apache, I get "Fault Service" and a few ClassNotFound Exceptions for some of the classes in my external jar file (I have already imported it as an external jar). Does the external jar needs to be imported in another way?

• Using Knockout.js to bind bootstrap daterange picker and parse span contents

  I'm new to knockout and trying to get what should be a simple task up and running. I'm working on an MVC4 .NET app with the intention of binding a date range picker to make ajax requests for updating Highchart graph data. I'm using Dan Grossman's bootstrap-themed date picker and it's been great so far (https://github.com/dangrossman/bootstrap-daterangepicker). The basic goal is to watch the span that this jQuery date ranger picker updates, and then use knockout to pass this value to another part of the app for the ajax request. I've tried everything I can find online.. valueUpdate:change on the span to using some jQuery within knockout to get the same goal done, to using a subscribe function to watch the value of the span before and after the date picker is used. Apparently this uses the jQuery .change() event handler, which is only good on inputs, selects, and textareas.. not spans. • A good web 'desktop' JavaScript, CSS, or both, library that likes ASP.NET Web Forms

  I've come across, in passing, several suites of functions, widgets, frameworks, etc. that seek to produce a desktop like experience on the web. Most are JavaScript and CSS tools that handle web content on an emulation of the desktop-paradigmed UI, e.g. TreeView + Content == Explorer. Is there such a library nicely compatible with ASP.NET Forms without weeks of grief? I'll also settle for something similar, but instead of native ASP.NET, a library for any of the open source CMS products for ASP.NET. (Umbraco is at the top of my list, followed by mojoPortal. I aspire to the level of coding their creators easily demonstrate in the product. [PS, I don't want a 'desktop' ux per se, just light and simple dynamic layout for drag 'n drop, dock windows, a dock bar?.. and other fancy magic.

  Does anyone know if there is a way of specifying the Format of a calendar extender with a dynamic value from the aspx? I tried this but it doesnt seem to set the format at all. • MVVM Good Design. DataSet or a RowViewModel

  I have just started learning MVVM and having a dilemna. If I have a a main ViewModel and inside this model I have a number of datasets. Now should I be creating a new ViewModel for each row inside the dataset? Or expose the DataSet itself as a DependencyProperty? For now the dataset has about 20 rows inside it, and the thought of iterating through each row to create a ViewModel binding to each row.... might not be the best option for performance reasons and memory reasons in the future, like when there are 1000+ rows. Should I still go ahead and create a RowViewModel and iterate through the dataset? And have an ObservableCollection of it or just expose the dataset? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Writing an Iron Python debugger

  As a learning exercise I'm writing myself a simple extension / plugin / macro framework using IronPython - I've gotten the basics working but I'd like to add some basic debugging support to make my script editor easier to work with. I've been hunting around on the internet a bit and I've found a couple of good resources on writing managed debuggers (including Mike Stall's excellent .Net Debugging blog and the MSDN documentaiton on the CLR Debugging API) - I understand that IronPython is essentially IL however apart from that I'm a tad lost on how to get started, in particular: Are there any significant differences between debugging a dynamic language (such as IronPython) to a static one (such as C#)? Do I need to execute my script in a special way to get IronPython to output suitable debugging information? Is debugging a script running inside the current process going to cause deadlocks, or does IronPython execute my script in a child process? Am I better off looking into how to produce a simple C# debugger first to get the general idea? (I'm not interested in the GUI aspect of making a debugger for now - I've already got a pretty good idea of how this might work)

• swfobject in Uploadify not working with IE 7 or 8

  I am using Uploadify and have a pop up which is loaded by jQuery by Ajax. The page on which the popup lives on has an include to swfobject (from Google's Code Api) and the Uploadify button should appear. This works great on FF and Chrome but IE gives me a javascript error Unknown runtime error line 4 character 5942 Anyone got any ideas how to fix this problem? • Google Maps & jQuery InfoWindow Replacement

  Hi all, So I'm rewriting my first google maps app and I'm looking at how I create info windows on click of a marker and it seems very inefficent to be adding a listener for each. Previously I've used GInfoWindow and EBubble (http://econym.org.uk/gmap/ebubble.htm). I was thinking that I could use jQuery to show a div with dynamic data if I had a hook for each marker to show the window and relevant marker info (pulled from JSON). I can see each marker has a unique id (e.g. mtgt_unnamed_2822) but I'm not sure how to predicte this. Has anyone tried this before or know how to go about it? Thanks Denis

• ASP.NET url MAX_PATH limit

  Hi, I've found an issue with ASP.NET that I know at least has stumped one other person out there. We were trying to use an HttpModule to handle wildcard requests to a web application. The generated url is dynamic and could potentially be several hundred characters long. Unfortunately there appears to be a limitation in the aspnet_isapi.dll file that limits the length of the path in the url to MAX_PATH which is hardcoded at 260 chars. Has anyone else ran into this and found a way around this limit? Query string parameters are not an option. Thanks, Greg Ballard

  Hi guys, I'm tring to create a generic collection of dynamic type at runtime of Silverlight application. My code: Type listType = Type.GetType("System.Collections.ObjectModel.ObservableCollection`1[[" + type.AssemblyQualifiedName + "]], System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e", true); type - is variable of Type type. That Type is creating at runtime. At that code line I've got error: Could not load file or assembly ', Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. How can I resolve that error?

  Hello all, Recently I've switched to Ninject 2.0 release and started getting the following error: Error occured: Error activating SomeController More than one matching bindings are available. Sometimes it occurs, sometimes it does not. I'm using NinjectHttpApplication for automatic controllers injection. • libcurl .NET does not want to work on Win64

  I wrote multi-threaded FTP uploader on C#.NET using libcurl.NET. Everything works fine on my machine, but when I give application (exe + libcurl.dll + 2 libcurl C# binding DLLs) to my friend who is running Win64, application crashes. After adding exception catcher to whole Main() function, I was able to get readable error message: "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format (Exception from HRESULT = 0x8007000b)" After googling for a while, I found an advice to enable unmanaged code in my project settings. I've recompiled my application and LibCurlNet.dll with this flag set but it did not help. What can cause such problem?

But when I fire the function event from a Onclick Button the result is perfect but when I fire the same function event on the page load of the ReportViewer ..I do not get the result. About function , i am creating dataset, and adapter with Sqlquery from runtime passing the parameter value from a session in the query and binding the data to the labels. But as I said I want the result on the pageload event of the reportviewer.

  Hi there, I have just created a mailchimp account and I have one question. I'm quite new to mailchimp. In my customer dashboard (of magento) i want to create a list subscribe form. Now I have a list of checkboxes that i run using a for next loop. I want to put these checkboxes in my mailchimp form and according to what the customer choices, the mailchimp list is updated. Ex. I have various categories (Apparel, furniture etc) these are set up from Magento backend and they have to be dynamic. These checkboxes are set up in a table. In Mailchimp I want to create user lists or one list with a group containing sub categories, that are created by my Magento code. I was wondering if this is possible.   Hi, I have a wpf datagrid with many rows, each row has some specific behaviors like selection changed of column 1 combo will filter column 2 combo, and what is selected in row 1 column 1 combo cannot be selected in row 2 column 1 combo, etc... So I am thinking of having a view model for the main datagrid, and another for each row. Is that a good MVVM implementation? It is so that I can handle each row's change event effectively. Question is, how do I create "each row" as a user control view? within the datagrid. • Cannot use Html.ActionLink in asp.net mvc spark files

  I'm using the spark view engine with my asp.net mvc application. In my aspx pages, I can succesfully use Html.Actionlink, but when I attempt it in spark files, it doesnt show up in intellisense, and when i try to run it anyway, i get: Dynamic view compilation failed. c:\Users\midas\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\ChurchMVC\ChurchMVC\Views\Home\Index.spark(73,25): error CS1061: 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' does not contain a definition for 'ActionLink' and no extension method 'ActionLink' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I do have system.web.mvc referenced, and I have added in _global.spark. None of that helps. Any ideas?
