  • error LNK2019 for ZLib sample compare.

    - by Nano HE
    Hello. I created win32 console application in vs2010 (without select the option of precompiled header). And I inserted the code below. but *.obj link failed. Could you provide me more information about the error. I searched MSDN, but still can't understand it. #include <stdio.h> #include "zlib.h" // Demonstration of zlib utility functions unsigned long file_size(char *filename) { FILE *pFile = fopen(filename, "rb"); fseek (pFile, 0, SEEK_END); unsigned long size = ftell(pFile); fclose (pFile); return size; } int decompress_one_file(char *infilename, char *outfilename) { gzFile infile = gzopen(infilename, "rb"); FILE *outfile = fopen(outfilename, "wb"); if (!infile || !outfile) return -1; char buffer[128]; int num_read = 0; while ((num_read = gzread(infile, buffer, sizeof(buffer))) > 0) { fwrite(buffer, 1, num_read, outfile); } gzclose(infile); fclose(outfile); } int compress_one_file(char *infilename, char *outfilename) { FILE *infile = fopen(infilename, "rb"); gzFile outfile = gzopen(outfilename, "wb"); if (!infile || !outfile) return -1; char inbuffer[128]; int num_read = 0; unsigned long total_read = 0, total_wrote = 0; while ((num_read = fread(inbuffer, 1, sizeof(inbuffer), infile)) > 0) { total_read += num_read; gzwrite(outfile, inbuffer, num_read); } fclose(infile); gzclose(outfile); printf("Read %ld bytes, Wrote %ld bytes, Compression factor %4.2f%%\n", total_read, file_size(outfilename), (1.0-file_size(outfilename)*1.0/total_read)*100.0); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { compress_one_file(argv[1],argv[2]); decompress_one_file(argv[2],argv[3]);} Output: 1>------ Build started: Project: zlibApp, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1> zlibApp.cpp 1>d:\learning\cpp\cppvs2010\zlibapp\zlibapp\zlibapp.cpp(15): warning C4996: 'fopen': This function or variable may be unsafe.   • CUDA: Memory copy to GPU 1 is slower in multi-GPU

    - by zenna
    My company has a setup of two GTX 295, so a total of 4 GPUs in a server, and we have several servers. We GPU 1 specifically was slow, in comparison to GPU 0, 2 and 3 so I wrote a little speed test to help find the cause of the problem. //#include <stdio.h> //#include <stdlib.h> //#include <cuda_runtime.h> #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <sstream> #include <string> #include <cutil.h> __global__ void test_kernel(float *d_data) { int tid = blockDim.x*blockIdx.x + threadIdx.x; for (int i=0;i<10000;++i) { d_data[tid] = float(i*2.2); d_data[tid] += 3.3; } } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { int deviceCount; cudaGetDeviceCount(&deviceCount); int device = 0; //SELECT GPU HERE cudaSetDevice(device); cudaEvent_t start, stop; unsigned int num_vals = 200000000; float *h_data = new float[num_vals]; for (int i=0;i<num_vals;++i) { h_data[i] = float(i); } float *d_data = NULL; float malloc_timer; cudaEventCreate(&start); cudaEventCreate(&stop); cudaEventRecord( start, 0 ); cudaMemcpy(d_data, h_data, sizeof(float)*num_vals,cudaMemcpyHostToDevice); cudaMalloc((void**)&d_data, sizeof(float)*num_vals); cudaEventRecord( stop, 0 ); cudaEventSynchronize( stop ); cudaEventElapsedTime( &malloc_timer, start, stop ); cudaEventDestroy( start ); cudaEventDestroy( stop ); float mem_timer; cudaEventCreate(&start); cudaEventCreate(&stop); cudaEventRecord( start, 0 ); cudaMemcpy(d_data, h_data, sizeof(float)*num_vals,cudaMemcpyHostToDevice); cudaEventRecord( stop, 0 ); cudaEventSynchronize( stop ); cudaEventElapsedTime( &mem_timer, start, stop ); cudaEventDestroy( start ); cudaEventDestroy( stop ); float kernel_timer; cudaEventCreate(&start); cudaEventCreate(&stop); cudaEventRecord( start, 0 ); test_kernel<<<1000,256>>>(d_data); cudaEventRecord( stop, 0 ); cudaEventSynchronize( stop ); cudaEventElapsedTime( &kernel_timer, start, stop ); cudaEventDestroy( start ); cudaEventDestroy( stop ); printf("cudaMalloc took %f ms\n",malloc_timer); printf("Copy to the GPU took %f ms\n",mem_timer); printf("Test Kernel took %f ms\n",kernel_timer); cudaMemcpy(h_data,d_data, sizeof(float)*num_vals,cudaMemcpyDeviceToHost); delete[] h_data; return 0; } The results are GPU0 cudaMalloc took 0.908640 ms Copy to the GPU took 296.058777 ms Test Kernel took 326.721283 ms GPU1 cudaMalloc took 0.913568 ms Copy to the GPU took[b] 663.182251 ms[/b] Test Kernel took 326.710785 ms GPU2 cudaMalloc took 0.925600 ms Copy to the GPU took 296.915039 ms Test Kernel took 327.127930 ms GPU3 cudaMalloc took 0.920416 ms Copy to the GPU took 296.968384 ms Test Kernel took 327.038696 ms As you can see, the cudaMemcpy to the GPU is well double the amount of time for GPU1. This is consistent between all our servers, it is always GPU1 that is slow. Any ideas why this may be? All servers are running windows XP.

  • processing an audio wav file with C

    - by sa125
    Hi - I'm working on processing the amplitude of a wav file and scaling it by some decimal factor. I'm trying to wrap my head around how to read and re-write the file in a memory-efficient way while also trying to tackle the nuances of the language (I'm new to C). The file can be in either an 8- or 16-bit format. The way I thought of doing this is by first reading the header data into some pre-defined struct, and then processing the actual data in a loop where I'll read a chunk of data into a buffer, do whatever is needed to it, and then write it to the output. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct header { char chunk_id[4]; int chunk_size; char format[4]; char subchunk1_id[4]; int subchunk1_size; short int audio_format; short int num_channels; int sample_rate; int byte_rate; short int block_align; short int bits_per_sample; short int extra_param_size; char subchunk2_id[4]; int subchunk2_size; } header; typedef struct header* header_p; void scale_wav_file(char * input, float factor, int is_8bit) { FILE * infile = fopen(input, "rb"); FILE * outfile = fopen("outfile.wav", "wb"); int BUFSIZE = 4000, i, MAX_8BIT_AMP = 255, MAX_16BIT_AMP = 32678; // used for processing 8-bit file unsigned char inbuff8[BUFSIZE], outbuff8[BUFSIZE]; // used for processing 16-bit file short int inbuff16[BUFSIZE], outbuff16[BUFSIZE]; // header_p points to a header struct that contains the file's metadata fields header_p meta = (header_p)malloc(sizeof(header)); if (infile) { // read and write header data fread(meta, 1, sizeof(header), infile); fwrite(meta, 1, sizeof(meta), outfile); while (!feof(infile)) { if (is_8bit) { fread(inbuff8, 1, BUFSIZE, infile); } else { fread(inbuff16, 1, BUFSIZE, infile); } // scale amplitude for 8/16 bits for (i=0; i < BUFSIZE; ++i) { if (is_8bit) { outbuff8[i] = factor * inbuff8[i]; if ((int)outbuff8[i] > MAX_8BIT_AMP) { outbuff8[i] = MAX_8BIT_AMP; } } else { outbuff16[i] = factor * inbuff16[i]; if ((int)outbuff16[i] > MAX_16BIT_AMP) { outbuff16[i] = MAX_16BIT_AMP; } else if ((int)outbuff16[i] < -MAX_16BIT_AMP) { outbuff16[i] = -MAX_16BIT_AMP; } } } // write to output file for 8/16 bit if (is_8bit) { fwrite(outbuff8, 1, BUFSIZE, outfile); } else { fwrite(outbuff16, 1, BUFSIZE, outfile); } } } // cleanup if (infile) { fclose(infile); } if (outfile) { fclose(outfile); } if (meta) { free(meta); } } int main (int argc, char const *argv[]) { char infile[] = "file.wav"; float factor = 0.5; scale_wav_file(infile, factor, 0); return 0; } I'm getting differing file sizes at the end (by 1k or so, for a 40Mb file), and I suspect this is due to the fact that I'm writing an entire buffer to the output, even though the file may have terminated before filling the entire buffer size. Also, the output file is messed up - won't play or open - so I'm probably doing the whole thing wrong. Any tips on where I'm messing up will be great. Thanks!

  • Padding error - when using AES Encryption in Java and Decryption in C

    - by user234445
    Hi All, I have a problem while decrypting the xl file in rijndael 'c' code (The file got encrypted in Java through JCE) and this problem is happening only for the excel files types which having formula's. Remaining all file type encryption/decryption is happening properly. (If i decrypt the same file in java the output is coming fine.) While i am dumped a file i can see the difference between java decryption and 'C' file decryption. od -c -b filename(file decrypted in C) 0034620 005 006 \0 \0 \0 \0 022 \0 022 \0 320 004 \0 \0 276 4 005 006 000 000 000 000 022 000 022 000 320 004 000 000 276 064 0034640 \0 \0 \0 \0 \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f 000 000 000 000 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 0034660 od -c -b filename(file decrypted in Java) 0034620 005 006 \0 \0 \0 \0 022 \0 022 \0 320 004 \0 \0 276 4 005 006 000 000 000 000 022 000 022 000 320 004 000 000 276 064 0034640 \0 \0 \0 \0 000 000 000 000 0034644 (the above is the difference between the dumped files) The following java code i used to encrypt the file. public class AES { /** * Turns array of bytes into string * * @param buf Array of bytes to convert to hex string * @return Generated hex string */ public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { File file = new File("testxls.xls"); byte[] lContents = new byte[(int) file.length()]; try { FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(file); fileInputStream.read(lContents); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e1) { e1.printStackTrace(); } try { KeyGenerator kgen = KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES"); kgen.init(256); // 192 and 256 bits may not be available // Generate the secret key specs.   • C program runs in Cygwin but not Linux (Malloc)

    - by Shawn
    I have a heap allocation error that I cant spot in my code that is picked up on vanguard/gdb on Linux but runs perfectly on a Windows cygwin environment. I understand that Linux could be tighter with its heap allocation than Windows but I would really like to have a response that discovers the issue/possible fix. I'm also aware that I shouldn't typecast malloc in C but it's a force of habit and doesn't change my problem from happening. My program actually compiles without error on both Linux & Windows but when I run it in Linux I get a scary looking result: malloc.c:3074: sYSMALLOc: Assertion `(old_top == (((mbinptr) (((char *) &((av)-bins[((1) - 1) * 2])) - __builtin_offsetof (struct malloc_chunk, fd)))) && old_size == 0) || ((unsigned long) (old_size) = (unsigned long)((((__builtin_offsetof (struct malloc_chunk, fd_nextsize))+((2 * (sizeof(size_t))) - 1)) & ~((2 * (sizeof(size_t))) - 1))) && ((old_top)-size & 0x1) && ((unsigned long)old_end & pagemask) == 0)' failed. • Confusion related to sigwait in multiprocess system

    - by user34790
    I am having difficulty in understanding IPC in multiprocess system. I have this system where there are three child processes that send two types of signals to their process group. There are four types of signal handling processes responsible for a particular type of signal. There is this monitoring process which waits for both the signals and then processes accordingly. When I run this program for a while, the monitoring process doesn't seem to pick up the signal as well as the signal handling process. I could see in the log that the signal is only being generated but not handled at all. My code is given below #include <cstdlib> #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> #include <unistd.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/wait.h> #include <sys/time.h> #include <signal.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <cstdio> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <pthread.h> using namespace std; double timestamp() { struct timeval tp; gettimeofday(&tp, NULL); return (double)tp.tv_sec + tp.tv_usec / 1000000.; } double getinterval() { srand(time(NULL)); int r = rand()%10 + 1; double s = (double)r/100; } int count; int count_1; int count_2; double time_1[10]; double time_2[10]; pid_t senders[1]; pid_t handlers[4]; pid_t reporter; void catcher(int sig) { printf("Signal catcher called for %d",sig); } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { void signal_catcher_int(int); pid_t pid,w; int status; if(signal(SIGUSR1, SIG_IGN) == SIG_ERR) { perror("1"); return 1; } if(signal(SIGUSR2 ,SIG_IGN) == SIG_ERR) { perror("2"); return 2; } if(signal(SIGINT,signal_catcher_int) == SIG_ERR) { perror("3"); return 2; } //Registering the signal handler for(int i=0; i<4; i++) { if((pid = fork()) == 0) { cout << i << endl; //struct sigaction sigact; sigset_t sigset; int sig; int result = 0; sigemptyset(&sigset); if(i%2 == 0) { if(signal(SIGUSR2, SIG_IGN) == SIG_ERR) { perror("2"); return 2; } sigaddset(&sigset, SIGUSR1); sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, &sigset, NULL); } else { if(signal(SIGUSR1, SIG_IGN) == SIG_ERR) { perror("2"); return 2; } sigaddset(&sigset, SIGUSR2); sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, &sigset, NULL); } while(true) { int result = sigwait(&sigset, &sig); if(result == 0) { cout << "The caught signal is " << sig << endl; } } exit(0); } else { cout << "Registerd the handler " << pid << endl; handlers[i] = pid; } } //Registering the monitoring process if((pid = fork()) == 0) { sigset_t sigset; int sig; int result = 0; sigemptyset(&sigset); sigaddset(&sigset, SIGUSR1); sigaddset(&sigset, SIGUSR2); sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, &sigset, NULL); while(true) { int result = sigwait(&sigset, &sig); if(result == 0) { cout << "The monitored signal is " << sig << endl; } else { cout << "error" << endl; } } } else { reporter = pid; } sleep(3); //Registering the signal generator for(int i=0; i<1; i++) { if((pid = fork()) == 0) { if(signal(SIGUSR1, SIG_IGN) == SIG_ERR) { perror("1"); return 1; } if(signal(SIGUSR2, SIG_IGN) == SIG_ERR) { perror("2"); return 2; } srand(time(0)); while(true) { volatile int signal_id = rand()%2 + 1; cout << "Generating the signal " << signal_id << endl; if(signal_id == 1) { killpg(getpgid(getpid()), SIGUSR1); } else { killpg(getpgid(getpid()), SIGUSR2); } int r = rand()%10 + 1; double s = (double)r/100; sleep(s); } exit(0); } else { cout << "Registered the sender " << pid << endl; senders[i] = pid; } } while(w = wait(&status)) { cout << "Wait on PID " << w << endl; } } void signal_catcher_int(int the_sig) { //cout << "Handling the Ctrl C signal " << endl; for(int i=0; i<1; i++) { kill(senders[i],SIGKILL); } for(int i=0; i<4; i++) { kill(handlers[i],SIGKILL); } kill(reporter,SIGKILL); exit(3); } Any suggestions? Further I could see very less signal processing by the monitoring process Can anyone please provide some insights. What's going on?

  • How to use pipes for nonblocking IPC (UART emulation)

    - by codebauer
    I would like to write some test/emulation code that emulates a serial port connection. The real code looks like this: DUT <- UART - testtool.exe My plan is to use create a test application (CodeUnderTest.out) on linux that forks to launch testool.out with two (read & write) named pipes as arguments. But I cannot figure out how to make all the pipe IO non-blocking! The setup would look like this:. CodeUnderTest.out <- named pipes - testTool.out (lauched from CodeUnderTest.out) I have tried opening the pipes as following: open(wpipe,O_WRONLY|O_NONBLOCK); open(rpipe,O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK); But the write blocks until the reader opens the wpipe. Next I tried the following: open(wpipe,O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK); open(rpipe,O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK); But then the reader of the first message never gets any data (doesn't block though) I also tried adding open and close calls around each message, but that didn't work either... Here is some test code: #include <stdio.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> pid_t pid; char* rpipe, *wpipe,*x; FILE *rh,*wh; int rfd,wfd; void openrpipe( void ) { rfd = open(rpipe,O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK); rh = fdopen(rfd,"rb"); printf("%sopeningr %x\n",x,rh); } void openwpipe( void ) { //Fails when reader not already opened //wfd = open(wpipe,O_WRONLY|O_NONBLOCK); wfd = open(wpipe,O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK); wh = fdopen(wfd,"wb"); printf("%sopeningw %x\n",x,wh); } void closerpipe( void ) { int i; i = fclose(rh); printf("%sclosingr %d\n",x,i); } void closewpipe( void ) { int i; i = fclose(wh); printf("%sclosingw %d\n",x,i); } void readpipe( char* expect, int len) { char buf[1024]; int i=0; printf("%sreading\n",x); while(i==0) { //printf("."); i = fread(buf,1,len,rh); } printf("%sread (%d) %s\n",x,i,buf); } void writepipe( char* data, int len) { int i,j; printf("%swriting\n",x); i = fwrite(data,1,len,rh); j = fflush(rh); //No help! printf("%sflush %d\n",x,j); printf("%swrite (%d) %s\n",x,i,data); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { rpipe = "readfifo"; wpipe = "writefifo"; x = ""; pid = fork(); if( pid == 0) { wpipe = "readfifo"; rpipe = "writefifo"; x = " "; openrpipe(); openwpipe(); writepipe("paul",4); readpipe("was",3); writepipe("here",4); closerpipe(); closewpipe(); exit(0); } openrpipe(); openwpipe(); readpipe("paul",4); writepipe("was",3); readpipe("here",4); closerpipe(); closewpipe(); return( -1 ); } BTW: To use the testocd above you need to pipes in the cwd: mkfifo ./readfifo mkfifo ./writefifo

  • Linked List exercise, what am I doing wrong?

    - by Sean Ochoa
    Hey all. I'm doing a linked list exercise that involves dynamic memory allocation, pointers, classes, and exceptions. Would someone be willing to critique it and tell me what I did wrong and what I should have done better both with regards to style and to those subjects I listed above? /* Linked List exercise */ #include <iostream> #include <exception> #include <string> using namespace std; class node{ public: node * next; int * data; node(const int i){ data = new int; *data = i; } node& operator=(node n){ *data = *(n.data); } ~node(){ delete data; } }; class linkedList{ public: node * head; node * tail; int nodeCount; linkedList(){ head = NULL; tail = NULL; } ~linkedList(){ while (head){ node* t = head->next; delete head; if (t) head = t; } } void add(node * n){ if (!head) { head = n; head->next = NULL; tail = head; nodeCount = 0; }else { node * t = head; while (t->next) t = t->next; t->next = n; n->next = NULL; nodeCount++; } } node * operator[](const int &i){ if ((i >= 0) && (i < nodeCount)) throw new exception("ERROR: Invalid index on linked list.", -1); node *t = head; for (int x = i; x < nodeCount; x++) t = t->next; return t; } void print(){ if (!head) return; node * t = head; string collection; cout << "["; int c = 0; if (!t->next) cout << *(t->data); else while (t->next){ cout << *(t->data); c++; if (t->next) t = t->next; if (c < nodeCount) cout << ", "; } cout << "]" << endl; } }; int main (const int & argc, const char * argv[]){ try{ linkedList * myList = new linkedList; for (int x = 0; x < 10; x++) myList->add(new node(x)); myList->print(); }catch(exception &ex){ cout << ex.what() << endl; return -1; } return 0; }

  • Creating my own Stack

    - by Malaken
    I am creating my own stack for my data structures class. For our assignment we are using the assignment to convert a real-time infix equation into a postfix equation. I thought my program: took input determines if it was digit or number(operand) prints it out determines if input is operator (+,-,/,*) adds to stack or prints out, depending on stack precedence Instead it prints out the operands as expect, but I get this error when I enter an operator .../dorun.sh line 33: 4136 Segmentation fault sh "$" [code] #include using namespace std; class DishWell{ public: char ReturnEnd(){ return Well.back(); } void Push(char x){ Well.push_back(x); } void Pop(){ Well.pop_back(); } bool IsEmpty(){ return Well.empty(); } private: vector<char> Well; }; #include <iostream> bool Precidence(char Input, char Stack){ int InputPrecidence,StackPrecidence; switch (Input){ case '*': InputPrecidence = 4; break; case '/': InputPrecidence = 4; break; case '+': InputPrecidence = 3; break; case '-': InputPrecidence = 3; break; case '(': InputPrecidence = 2; break; default: InputPrecidence = 0; } switch (Stack){ case '*': StackPrecidence = 4; break; case '/': StackPrecidence = 4; break; case '+': StackPrecidence = 3; break; case '-': StackPrecidence = 3; break; case '(': StackPrecidence = 2; break; default: StackPrecidence = 0; } if(InputPrecidence>StackPrecidence) return true; else return false; } int main(int argc, char** argv) { DishWell DishTray; char Input; bool InputFlag; InputFlag = true; while(InputFlag){ cin>>Input; if((((Input>='a'&&Input<='z')||(Input>='A'&&Input<='Z'))|| (Input>='0'&&Input<='9')))//If Digit or Number cout<<Input; if((Input=='*'||Input=='/'||Input=='+'||Input=='-')){//if operand if(Precidence(Input,DishTray.ReturnEnd())) DishTray.Push(Input); else if(!Precidence(Input,DishTray.ReturnEnd())) cout<<Input; } else if(!((((Input>='a'&&Input<='z')||(Input>='A'&&Input<='Z'))|| (Input>='0'&&Input<='9')))||((Input=='*'||Input=='/'||Input=='+'||Input=='-')))//if not digit/numer or operand InputFlag = false; } while(!DishTray.IsEmpty()){ cout<<DishTray.ReturnEnd(); DishTray.Pop(); } return 0; [code] My code is very length, I know, but I appreciate help. • Segmentation. strcmp [C]

    Hello, I have a file with format: [name][number][amount] number is taken as a string. and im using it in a strcmp. Problem is that i get a segmentation fault. • Errors with the Basic OpenCV Hello World

    - by GuyNoir
    I'm simply trying to run the basic openCV hello world tutorial code, but I'm getting errors. I have everything properly linked and built, but it's not working. This seems like it should be extremely easy, but it's not working. OpenCV is properly installed, and I even attempted to place opencv_core220d and opencv_highgui220d in the Debug folder of my project, but no luck. • Compiler issues on VC++ 2008 Express, Seemingly correct code throws errors.

    - by Anthony Clever
    Hi there, I've been trying to get back into coding for a while, so I figured I'd start with some simple SDL, now, without the file i/o, this compiles fine, but when I throw in the stdio code, it starts throwing errors. This I'm not sure about, I don't see any problem with the code itself, however, like I said, I might as well be a newbie, and figured I'd come here to get someone with a little more experience with this type of thing to look at it. I guess my question boils down to: "Why doesn't this compile under Microsoft's Visual C++ 2008 Express?" I've attached the error log at the bottom of the code snippet. Thanks in advance for any help. #include "SDL/SDL.h" #include "stdio.h" int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { FILE *stderr; FILE *stdout; stderr = fopen("stderr", "wb"); stdout = fopen("stdout", "wb"); SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_EVERYTHING); fprintf(stdout, "SDL INITIALIZED SUCCESSFULLY\n"); SDL_Quit(); fprintf(stderr, "SDL QUIT.\n"); fclose(stderr); fclose(stdout); return 0; } /* 1>------ Build started: Project: opengl_crap, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1>Compiling... 1>main.cpp 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(6) : error C2090: function returns array 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(6) : error C2528: '__iob_func' : pointer to reference is illegal 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(6) : error C2556: 'FILE ***__iob_func(void)' : overloaded function differs only by return type from 'FILE *__iob_func(void)' 1> c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 9.0\vc\include\stdio.h(132) : see declaration of '__iob_func' 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(7) : error C2090: function returns array 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(7) : error C2528: '__iob_func' : pointer to reference is illegal 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(9) : error C2440: '=' : cannot convert from 'FILE *' to 'FILE ***' 1> Types pointed to are unrelated; conversion requires reinterpret_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(10) : error C2440: '=' : cannot convert from 'FILE *' to 'FILE ***' 1> Types pointed to are unrelated; conversion requires reinterpret_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(13) : error C2664: 'fprintf' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'FILE ***' to 'FILE *' 1> Types pointed to are unrelated; conversion requires reinterpret_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(15) : error C2664: 'fprintf' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'FILE ***' to 'FILE *' 1> Types pointed to are unrelated; conversion requires reinterpret_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(17) : error C2664: 'fclose' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'FILE ***' to 'FILE *' 1> Types pointed to are unrelated; conversion requires reinterpret_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast 1>c:\documents and settings\owner\my documents\visual studio 2008\projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\main.cpp(18) : error C2664: 'fclose' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'FILE ***' to 'FILE *' 1> Types pointed to are unrelated; conversion requires reinterpret_cast, C-style cast or function-style cast 1>Build log was saved at "file://c:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\opengl_crap\opengl_crap\Debug\BuildLog.htm" 1>opengl_crap - 11 error(s), 0 warning(s) ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ========== */

  • Clear data at serial port in Linux in C?

    - by ipkiss
    Hello guys, I am testing the sending and receiving programs with the code as The main() function is below: include include include include include include include "read_write.h" int fd; int initport(int fd) { struct termios options; // Get the current options for the port... tcgetattr(fd, &options); // Set the baud rates to 19200... cfsetispeed(&options, B9600); cfsetospeed(&options, B9600); // Enable the receiver and set local mode... options.c_cflag |= (CLOCAL | CREAD); options.c_cflag &= ~PARENB; options.c_cflag &= ~CSTOPB; options.c_cflag &= ~CSIZE; options.c_cflag |= CS8; // Set the new options for the port... tcsetattr(fd, TCSANOW, &options); return 1; } int main(int argc, char **argv) { fd = open("/dev/pts/2", O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY | O_NDELAY); if (fd == -1) { perror("open_port: Unable to open /dev/pts/1 - "); return 1; } else { fcntl(fd, F_SETFL, 0); } printf("baud=%d\n", getbaud(fd)); initport(fd); printf("baud=%d\n", getbaud(fd)); char sCmd[254]; sCmd[0] = 0x41; sCmd[1] = 0x42; sCmd[2] = 0x43; sCmd[3] = 0x00; if (!writeport(fd, sCmd)) { printf("write failed\n"); close(fd); return 1; } printf("written:%s\n", sCmd); usleep(500000); char sResult[254]; fcntl(fd, F_SETFL, FNDELAY); if (!readport(fd,sResult)) { printf("read failed\n"); close(fd); return 1; } printf("readport=%s\n", sResult); close(fd); return 0; } read_write.h: #include <stdio.h> /* Standard input/output definitions */ include /* String function definitions */ include /* UNIX standard function definitions */ include /* File control definitions */ include /* Error number definitions */ include /* POSIX terminal control definitions */ int writeport(int fd, char *chars) { int len = strlen(chars); chars[len] = 0x0d; // stick a after the command chars[len+1] = 0x00; // terminate the string properly int n = write(fd, chars, strlen(chars)); if (n < 0) { fputs("write failed!\n", stderr); return 0; } return 1; } int readport(int fd, char *result) { int iIn = read(fd, result, 254); result[iIn-1] = 0x00; if (iIn < 0) { if (errno == EAGAIN) { printf("SERIAL EAGAIN ERROR\n"); return 0; } else { printf("SERIAL read error %d %s\n", errno, strerror(errno)); return 0; } } return 1; } and got the issue: In order to test with serial port, I used the socat (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualSerialPort ) to create a pair serial ports on Linux and test my program with these port. The first time the program sends the data and the program receives data is ok. However, if I read again or even re-write the new data into the serial port, the return data is always null until I stop the virtual serial port and start it again, then the write and read data is ok, but still, only one time. (In the real case, the sending part will be done by another device, I am just taking care of the reading data from the serial port. I wrote both parts just to test my reading code.) Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot.

  • Can someone code review my small SDL app? Want to make sure I didn't make any beginner mistakes

    - by SDLFunTimes
    In an effort to teach myself the SDL library (hence my stack overflow handle :) ) I wanted to try my hand at a side-scroller. My code is complete but I want some feedback (mostly because I have an atrocious amount of if and else statements for what seems like some simple logic). My "program" is a c++ side-scroller where you move a single sprite across the screen. No jumping, bad guys, guns, scores, levels or anything. I wanted to use this as a base to build up upon. So I figured if my base is wrong I could end up with some pretty bad future apps. It's also multi-threaded. Next up on this I would like to make the person sprite animated (so it looks like he's walking rather than sliding) as well as make the person go faster when the arrow buttons are held down longer). The code is kind of long but here's my main method. There's a link at the bottom for the whole program: #include <iostream> #include "SDL.h" #include "game.hpp" using std::cout; using std::endl; const int SCREENW = 200; const int SCREENH = 200; const int BPP = 32; const int FPS = 24; int event_loop(void* stuff); int display_loop(void* stuff); int main(int argc, char** argv) { SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_EVERYTHING | SDL_INIT_EVENTTHREAD); SDL_Thread* events_thurd; SDL_Thread* display_thurd; SDL_Surface* screen = SDL_SetVideoMode(SCREENW, SCREENH, BPP, SDL_SWSURFACE); SDL_EnableKeyRepeat(SDL_DEFAULT_REPEAT_DELAY, SDL_DEFAULT_REPEAT_INTERVAL); SDL_Event event; Game* thug_aim = new Game(&event, screen, SCREENW, SCREENH, BPP); events_thurd = SDL_CreateThread(event_loop, (void*)thug_aim); display_thurd = SDL_CreateThread(display_loop, (void*)thug_aim); SDL_WaitThread(events_thurd, NULL); SDL_KillThread(display_thurd); delete thug_aim; return 0; } int event_loop(void* stuff) { Game* gamez = (Game*)stuff; SDL_Event* event = gamez->get_event(); while(1) { while(SDL_PollEvent(event)) { if(event->type == SDL_QUIT) { return 0; } else if(event->type == SDL_KEYDOWN) { if(event->key.keysym.sym == SDLK_LEFT || event->key.keysym.sym == SDLK_RIGHT) { gamez->move(event->key.keysym.sym); } } else if(event->type == SDL_KEYUP) { if(event->key.keysym.sym == SDLK_LEFT || event->key.keysym.sym == SDLK_RIGHT) { gamez->stop_move(event->key.keysym.sym); } } else { //not an event that concerns this game } } } } int display_loop(void* stuff) { Game* gamez = (Game*)stuff; double period = 1 / FPS * 1000; Uint32 milli_period = (Uint32)period; //get some of the attributes from gamez SDL_Rect* background_rect = gamez->get_background_rect(); SDL_Rect* person_rect = gamez->get_person_rect(); SDL_Surface* screen = gamez->get_screen(); SDL_Surface* background = gamez->get_background(); SDL_Surface* person = gamez->get_person(); Uint32 start, end; int sleep; while(1) { start = SDL_GetTicks(); //blit background SDL_BlitSurface(background, background_rect, screen, NULL); //blit person SDL_BlitSurface(person, NULL, screen, person_rect); end = SDL_GetTicks(); sleep = milli_period - (end - start); if(sleep < 0) { sleep = 0; } SDL_Delay((Uint32)sleep); if(SDL_Flip(gamez->get_screen()) != 0) { cout << "error drawing to screen: " << SDL_GetError() << endl; } } } Here's the link to the .zip file of all my code (please ignore some of the variable names ;-) ): Anyway can you guys take a look and tell me what you think? url edit: holy crap I didn't know 2shared was such a shitty site. Looking for a better uploader than that or rapidshare / mediafire.

  • Getting timing consistency in Linux

    - by Jim Hunziker
    I can't seem to get a simple program (with lots of memory access) to achieve consistent timing in Linux. I'm using a 2.6 kernel, and the program is being run on a dual-core processor with realtime priority. I'm trying to disable cache effects by declaring the memory arrays as volatile. Below are the results and the program. What are some possible sources of the outliers? • C++ match string in file and get line number

    - by Corey
    I have a file with the top 1000 baby names. I want to ask the user for a name...search the file...and tell the user what rank that name is for boy names and what rank for girl names. If it isn't in boy names or girl names, it tells the user it's not among the popular names for that gender. The file is laid out like this: Rank Boy-Names Girl-Names 1 Jacob Emily 2 Michael Emma . . . Desired output for input Michael would be: Michael is 2nd most popular among boy names. If Michael is not in girl names it should say: Michael is not among the most popular girl names Though if it was, it would say: Micheal is (rank) among girl names The code I have so far is below.. I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks for any help. #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> #include <cctype> using namespace std; void find_name(string name); int main(int argc, char **argv) { string name; cout << "Please enter a baby name to search for:\n"; cin >> name; /*while(!(cin>>name)) { cout << "Please enter a baby name to search for:\n"; cin >> name; }*/ find_name(name); cin.get(); cin.get(); return 0; } void find_name(string name) { ifstream input; int line = 0; string line1 = " "; int rank; string boy_name = ""; string girl_name = ""; input.open("/<path>/babynames2004.rtf"); if (!input) { cout << "Unable to open file\n"; exit(1); } while(input.good()) { while(getline(input,line1)) { input >> rank >> boy_name >> girl_name; if (boy_name == name) { cout << name << " is ranked " << rank << " among boy names\n"; } else { cout << name << " is not among the popular boy names\n"; } if (girl_name == name) { cout << name << " is ranked " << rank << " among girl names\n"; } else { cout << name << " is not among the popular girl names\n"; } } } input.close(); }

  • Bewildering SegFault involving STL sort algorithm.

    - by just_wes
    Hello everybody, I am completely perplexed at a seg fault that I seem to be creating. I have: vector<unsigned int> words; and global variable string input; I define my custom compare function: bool wordncompare(unsigned int f, unsigned int s) { int n = k; while (((f < input.size()) && (s < input.size())) && (input[f] == input[s])) { if ((input[f] == ' ') && (--n == 0)) { return false; } f++; s++; } return true; } When I run the code: sort(words.begin(), words.end()); The program exits smoothly. However, when I run the code: sort(words.begin(), words.end(), wordncompare); I generate a SegFault deep within the STL. The GDB back-trace code looks like this: #0 0x00007ffff7b79893 in std::string::size() const () from /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/libstdc++.so.6 #1 0x0000000000400f3f in wordncompare (f=90, s=0) at text_gen2.cpp:40 #2 0x000000000040188d in std::__unguarded_linear_insert<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, unsigned int, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__last=..., __val=90, __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:1735 #3 0x00000000004018df in std::__unguarded_insertion_sort<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__first=..., __last=..., __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:1812 #4 0x0000000000402562 in std::__final_insertion_sort<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__first=..., __last=..., __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:1845 #5 0x0000000000402c20 in std::sort<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<unsigned int*, std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> > >, bool (*)(unsigned int, unsigned int)> (__first=..., __last=..., __comp=0x400edc <wordncompare(unsigned int, unsigned int)>) at /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.4/include/g++-v4/bits/stl_algo.h:4822 #6 0x00000000004012d2 in main (argc=1, args=0x7fffffffe0b8) at text_gen2.cpp:70 I have similar code in another program, but in that program I am using a vector instead of vector. For the life of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

  • Trying to write a std::iterator : Compilation error

    - by Naveen
    I am trying to write an std::iterator for the CArray<Type,ArgType> MFC class. This is what I have done till now: template <class Type, class ArgType> class CArrayIterator : public std::iterator<std::random_access_iterator_tag, ArgType> { public: CArrayIterator(CArray<Type,ArgType>& array_in, int index_in = 0) : m_pArray(&array_in), m_index(index_in) { } void operator++() { ++m_index; } void operator++(int) { ++m_index; } void operator--() { --m_index; } void operator--(int) { --m_index; } void operator+=(int n) { m_index += n; } void operator-=(int n) { m_index -= n; } typename ArgType operator*() const{ return m_pArray->GetAt(m_index); } typename ArgType operator->() const { return m_pArray->GetAt(m_index); } bool operator==(const CArrayIterator& other) const { return m_pArray == other.m_pArray && m_index == other.m_index; } bool operator!=(const CArrayIterator& other) const { return ! (operator==(other)); } private: CArray<Type,ArgType>* m_pArray; int m_index; }; I also provided two helper functions to create the iterators like this: template<class Type, class ArgType> CArrayIterator<Type,ArgType> make_begin(CArray<Type,ArgType>& array_in) { return CArrayIterator<Type,ArgType>(array_in, 0); } template<class Type, class ArgType> CArrayIterator<Type,ArgType> make_end(CArray<Type,ArgType>& array_in) { return CArrayIterator<Type,ArgType>(array_in, array_in.GetSize()); } To test the code, I wrote a simple class A and tried to use it like this: class A { public: A(int n): m_i(n) { } int get() const { return m_i; } private: int m_i; }; struct Test { void operator()(A* p) { std::cout<<p->get()<<"\n"; } }; int main(int argc, char **argv) { CArray<A*, A*> b; b.Add(new A(10)); b.Add(new A(20)); std::for_each(make_begin(b), make_end(b), Test()); return 0; } But when I compile this code, I get the following error: Error 4 error C2784: 'bool std::operator <(const std::_Tree<_Traits &,const std::_Tree<_Traits &)' : could not deduce template argument for 'const std::_Tree<_Traits &' from 'CArrayIterator' C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\xutility 1564 Vs8Console Can anybody throw some light on what I am doing wrong and how it can be corrected? I am using VC9 compiler if it matters.

    Try this code I created,when I use it in Borland C++ and try the remove-function a debug session opens up and it points to a file called "xstring",and it is saying "EAccessViolation". it points to this line in the file: return (compare(0, _Mysize, _Right._Myptr(), _Right.size())); //--------------------------------------------------------------------------- #include<iostream> #include<string> #include<fstream> #include<list> #pragma hdrstop using namespace std; struct Mail{ string name; string ammount; }; //---------------------------Call_Functions----------------------------- void new_mail(list<Mail>& l); void show_mail(list<Mail> l); void remove(list<Mail>& l); //---------------------------------Menu-------------------------------------- #pragma argsused int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { list<Mail> mail; bool contin = true; char answ; do{ cout<<'\n'<<'\t'<<'\t'<<"Menu"<<endl <<'\t'<<'\t'<<"----"<<endl <<"1. • (static initialization order?!) problems with factory pattern

    - by smerlin
    Why does following code raise an exception (in createObjects call to map::at) alternativly the code (and its output) can be viewed here intererestingly the code works as expected if the commented lines are uncommented with both microsoft and gcc compiler (see here), this even works with initMap as ordinary static variable instead of static getter. The only reason for this i can think of is that the order of initialization of the static registerHelper_ object (factory_helper_)and the std::map object (initMap) are wrong, however i cant see how that could happen, because the map object is constructed on first usage and thats in factory_helper_ constructor, so everything should be alright shouldnt it ? I am even more suprised that those doNothing() lines fix the issue, because that call to doNothing() would happen after the critical section (which currently fails) is passed anyway. EDIT: debugging showed, that without the call to factory_helper_.doNothing(), the constructor of factory_helper_ is never called. #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <map> #define FACTORY_CLASS(classtype) \ extern const char classtype##_name_[] = #classtype; \ class classtype : FactoryBase<classtype,classtype##_name_> namespace detail_ { class registerHelperBase { public: registerHelperBase(){} protected: static std::map<std::string, void * (*)(void)>& getInitMap() { static std::map<std::string, void * (*)(void)>* initMap = 0; if(!initMap) initMap= new std::map<std::string, void * (*)(void)>(); return *initMap; } }; template<class TParent, const char* ClassName> class registerHelper_ : registerHelperBase { static registerHelper_ help_; public: //void doNothing(){} registerHelper_(){ getInitMap()[std::string(ClassName)]=&TParent::factory_init_; } }; template<class TParent, const char* ClassName> registerHelper_<TParent,ClassName> registerHelper_<TParent,ClassName>::help_; } class Factory : detail_::registerHelperBase { private: Factory(); public: static void* createObject(const std::string& objclassname) { return getInitMap().at(objclassname)(); } }; template <class TClass, const char* ClassName> class FactoryBase { private: static detail_::registerHelper_<FactoryBase<TClass,ClassName>,ClassName> factory_helper_; static void* factory_init_(){ return new TClass();} public: friend class detail_::registerHelper_<FactoryBase<TClass,ClassName>,ClassName>; FactoryBase(){ //factory_helper_.doNothing(); } virtual ~FactoryBase(){}; }; template <class TClass, const char* ClassName> detail_::registerHelper_<FactoryBase<TClass,ClassName>,ClassName> FactoryBase<TClass,ClassName>::factory_helper_; FACTORY_CLASS(Test) { public: Test(){} }; int main(int argc, char** argv) { try { Test* test = (Test*) Factory::createObject("Test"); } catch(const std::exception& ex) { std::cerr << "caught std::exception: "<< ex.what() << std::endl; } #ifdef _MSC_VER system("pause"); #endif return 0; }
