  • TwoWay Binding With ItemsControl

    - by Andrew
    I'm trying to write a user control that has an ItemsControl, the ItemsTemplate of which contains a TextBox that will allow for TwoWay binding. However, I must be making a mistake somewhere in my code, because the binding only appears to work as if Mode=OneWay. This is a pretty simplified excerpt from my project, but it still contains the problem: <UserControl x:Class="ItemsControlTest.UserControl1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <StackPanel> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Path=.}" x:Name="myItemsControl"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBox Text="{Binding Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=LostFocus, Path=.}" /> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> <Button Click="Button_Click" Content="Click Here To Change Focus From ItemsControl" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </UserControl> Here's the code behind for the above control: using System; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; using System.Collections.ObjectModel; namespace ItemsControlTest { /// <summary> /// Interaction logic for UserControl1.xaml /// </summary> public partial class UserControl1 : UserControl { public ObservableCollection<string> MyCollection { get { return (ObservableCollection<string>)GetValue(MyCollectionProperty); } set { SetValue(MyCollectionProperty, value); } } // Using a DependencyProperty as the backing store for MyCollection. This enables animation, styling, binding, etc... public static readonly DependencyProperty MyCollectionProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("MyCollection", typeof(ObservableCollection<string>), typeof(UserControl1), new UIPropertyMetadata(new ObservableCollection<string>())); public UserControl1() { for (int i = 0; i < 6; i++) MyCollection.Add("String " + i.ToString()); InitializeComponent(); myItemsControl.DataContext = this.MyCollection; } private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { // Insert a string after the third element of MyCollection MyCollection.Insert(3, "Inserted Item"); // Display contents of MyCollection in a MessageBox string str = ""; foreach (string s in MyCollection) str += s + Environment.NewLine; MessageBox.Show(str); } } } And finally, here's the xaml for the main window: <Window x:Class="ItemsControlTest.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:src="clr-namespace:ItemsControlTest" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <src:UserControl1 /> </Grid> </Window> Well, that's everything. I'm not sure why editing the TextBox.Text properties in the window does not seem to update the source property for the binding in the code behind, namely MyCollection. Clicking on the button pretty much causes the problem to stare me in the face;) Please help me understand where I'm going wrong. Thanx! Andrew

  • In WPF, Selecting ItemContainerStyle based on data bound content

    - by Bart Roozendaal
    In #WPF you have ItemTemplateSelectors. But, can you also select an ItemContainerStyle based on the datatype of a bound object? I am databinding a scatterview. I want to set some properties of the generated ScatterViewItems based on the object in their DataContext. A mechanism similar to ItemTemplateSelector for styles would be great. Is that at all possible? I am now binding to properties in the objects that I am displaying to get the effect, but that feels like overhead and too complex (and most importantly, something that our XU designers can't do by themselves). This is the XAML that I am using now. Your help is greatly appreciated. <s:ScatterView x:Name="topicsViewer"> <s:ScatterView.ItemTemplateSelector> <local:TopicViewerDataTemplateSelector> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type mvc:S7VideoTopic}"> <Grid> <ContentPresenter Content="{Binding MediaElement}" /> <s:SurfaceButton Visibility="{Binding MailToVisible}" x:Name="mailto" Tag="{Binding Titel}" Click="mailto_Click" HorizontalAlignment="Right" VerticalAlignment="Top" Background="Transparent" Width="62" Height="36"> <Image Source="/Resources/MailTo.png" /> </s:SurfaceButton> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Height="32"> <s:SurfaceButton Tag="{Binding MediaElement}" x:Name="btnPlay" Click="btnPlay_Click"> <Image Source="/Resources/control_play.png" /> </s:SurfaceButton> <s:SurfaceButton Tag="{Binding MediaElement}" x:Name="btnPause" Click="btnPause_Click"> <Image Source="/Resources/control_pause.png" /> </s:SurfaceButton> <s:SurfaceButton Tag="{Binding MediaElement}" x:Name="btnStop" Click="btnStop_Click"> <Image Source="/Resources/control_stop.png" /> </s:SurfaceButton> </StackPanel> </Grid> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type mvc:S7ImageTopic}"> <Grid> <ContentPresenter Content="{Binding Resource}" /> <s:SurfaceButton Visibility="{Binding MailToVisible}" x:Name="mailto" Tag="{Binding Titel}" Click="mailto_Click" HorizontalAlignment="Right" VerticalAlignment="Top" Background="Transparent" Width="62" Height="36"> <Image Source="/Resources/MailTo.png" /> </s:SurfaceButton> </Grid> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type local:Kassa}"> <ContentPresenter Content="{Binding}" Width="300" Height="355" /> </DataTemplate> </local:TopicViewerDataTemplateSelector> </s:ScatterView.ItemTemplateSelector> <s:ScatterView.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="s:ScatterViewItem"> <Setter Property="MinWidth" Value="200" /> <Setter Property="MinHeight" Value="150" /> <Setter Property="MaxWidth" Value="800" /> <Setter Property="MaxHeight" Value="700" /> <Setter Property="Width" Value="{Binding DefaultWidth}" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="{Binding DefaultHeight}" /> <Setter Property="s:ScatterViewItem.CanMove" Value="{Binding CanMove}" /> <Setter Property="s:ScatterViewItem.CanScale" Value="{Binding CanScale}" /> <Setter Property="s:ScatterViewItem.CanRotate" Value="{Binding CanRotate}" /> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> </Style> </s:ScatterView.ItemContainerStyle> </s:ScatterView> Bart Roozendaal, Sevensteps

  • How to parametrize WPF Style?

    - by Konstantin
    Hi! I'm looking for a simplest way to remove duplication in my WPF code. Code below is a simple traffic light with 3 lights - Red, Amber, Green. It is bound to a ViewModel that has one enum property State taking one of those 3 values. Code declaring 3 ellipses is very duplicative. Now I want to add animation so that each light fades in and out - styles will become even bigger and duplication will worsen. Is it possible to parametrize style with State and Color arguments so that I can have a single style in resources describing behavior of a light and then use it 3 times - for 'Red', 'Amber' and 'Green' lights? <UserControl.Resources> <l:TrafficLightViewModel x:Key="ViewModel" /> </UserControl.Resources> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" DataContext="{StaticResource ViewModel}"> <StackPanel.Resources> <Style x:Key="singleLightStyle" TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}"> <Setter Property="StrokeThickness" Value="2" /> <Setter Property="Stroke" Value="Black" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="{Binding Width, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Width" Value="60" /> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="LightGray" /> </Style> </StackPanel.Resources> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Red"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Red" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Amber"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Red" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Green"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Green" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> </StackPanel>

  • WPF Combobox binding: can't change selection.

    - by SteveCav
    After wasting hours on this, following on the heels of my Last Problem, I'm starting to feel that Framework 4 is a master of subtle evil, or my PC is haunted. I have three comboboxes and a textbox on a WPF form, and I have an out-of-the-box Subsonic 3 ActiveRecord DAL. When I load this "edit record" form, the comboboxes fill correctly, they select the correct items, and the textbox has the correct text. I can change the TextBox text and save the record just fine, but the comboboxes CANNOT BE CHANGED. The lists drop down and highlight, but when you click on an item, the item selected stays the same. Here's my XAML: <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="10,10,0,0"> <TextBlock Width="80">Asset</TextBlock> <ComboBox Name="cboAsset" Width="180" DisplayMemberPath="AssetName" SelectedValuePath="AssetID" SelectedValue="{Binding AssetID}" ></ComboBox> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="10,10,0,0"> <TextBlock Width="80">Status</TextBlock> <ComboBox Name="cboStatus" Width="180" DisplayMemberPath="JobStatusDesc" SelectedValuePath="JobStatusID" SelectedValue="{Binding JobStatusID}" ></ComboBox> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="10,10,0,0"> <TextBlock Width="80">Category</TextBlock> <ComboBox Name="cboCategories" Width="180" DisplayMemberPath="CategoryName" SelectedValuePath="JobCategoryID" SelectedValue="{Binding JobCategoryID}" ></ComboBox> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="10,10,0,0"> <TextBlock Width="80">Reason</TextBlock> <TextBox Name="txtReason" Width="380" Text="{Binding Reason}"/> </StackPanel> Here are the relevant snips of my code (intJobID is passed in): SvcMgrDAL.Job oJob; IQueryable<SvcMgrDAL.JobCategory> oCategories = SvcMgrDAL.JobCategory.All().OrderBy(x => x.CategoryName); IQueryable<SvcMgrDAL.Asset> oAssets = SvcMgrDAL.Asset.All().OrderBy(x => x.AssetName); IQueryable<SvcMgrDAL.JobStatus> oStatus = SvcMgrDAL.JobStatus.All(); cboCategories.ItemsSource = oCategories; cboStatus.ItemsSource = oStatus; cboAsset.ItemsSource = oAssets; this.JobID = intJobID; oJob = SvcMgrDAL.Job.SingleOrDefault(x => x.JobID == intJobID); this.DataContext = oJob; Things I've tried: -Explicitly setting IsReadOnly="false" and IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" -Changing the combobox ItemSources from IQueryables to Lists. -Building my own Job object (plain vanilla entity class). -Every binding mode for the comboboxes. The Subsonic DAL doesn't implement INotifyPropertyChanged, but I don't see as it'd need to for simple binding like this. I just want to be able to pick something from the dropdown and save it. Comparing it with my last problem (link at the top of this message), I seem to have something really wierd with data sources going on. Maybe it's a Subsonic thing?

  • xaml : Retrigger opacity animation on multiple conditions

    - by Sdry
    I have a problem figuring out how datatriggers and multidatatriggers work. I am trying to display a message, and depending on the type of message keep it displayed( + having a background), or having it fade out by a double animation on the opacity property (+ having a transparent background). My xaml view has a game object as datacontext, which has a dependency property of type GameMessage, of which the constructor looks like this: public GameMessage(bool containsMessage, string message, bool canFadeAway) { ContainsMessage = containsMessage; Message = message; CanFadeAway = canFadeAway; } pretty straight forward, I want to display the message when ContainsMessage =equals true, and trigger a fade out animation if canFadeAway equals true. But also set the background based on canFadeAway. <Canvas Name="messageCanvas" Width="300" Height="100" Style="{StaticResource fadeInOut}"> <TextBlock Name="txtMessage" Text="{Binding Path=GameMessage.Message}" Canvas.Top="25" Canvas.Left="0" Foreground="{StaticResource MessageForegroundBrush}"> </TextBlock> </Canvas> Now, the Style and triggers is where I get into trouble: <Style.Triggers> <MultiDataTrigger> <MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Binding="{Binding Path=GameMessage.ContainsMessage}" Value="True"/> <Condition Binding="{Binding Path=GameMessage.CanFadeAway}" Value="False"/> </MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Setter Property="Background" Value="{StaticResource MessageBackgroundBrush}" /> <Setter Property="Opacity" Value="8" /> </MultiDataTrigger> <MultiDataTrigger> <MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Binding="{Binding Path=GameMessage.ContainsMessage}" Value="True"/> <Condition Binding="{Binding Path=GameMessage.CanFadeAway}" Value="True"/> </MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="Opacity" Value="8" /> </MultiDataTrigger> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Path=GameMessage.CanFadeAway}" Value="True"> <DataTrigger.EnterActions> <BeginStoryboard > <Storyboard BeginTime="0:0:0" > <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetProperty="Opacity" From="8" To="0" Duration="0:0:1" BeginTime="0:0:0" /> </Storyboard> </BeginStoryboard> </DataTrigger.EnterActions> <DataTrigger.ExitActions> <BeginStoryboard> <Storyboard> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetProperty="Opacity" To="8" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> </Storyboard> </BeginStoryboard> </DataTrigger.ExitActions> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> The problem is in resetting the opacity when the GameMessage Property ( of type GameMessage) is of type true,msg",true, and gets replaced by a GameMessage object of the same kind. The opcacity remains 0, and messages only get restored again when I have a message of kind true,"msg,false. After the animation, the opacity is 0, and where I would expect the second multidatatrigger to set it back to 8, and then have the animation performed by the Datatrigger, it doesnt. What would be the best way to get this working ?

  • Dynamic Scoped Resources in WPF/XAML?

    - by firoso
    I have 2 Xaml files, one containing a DataTemplate which has a resource definition for an Image brush, and the other containing a content control which presents this DataTemplate. The data template is bound to a view model class. Everything seems to work EXCEPT the ImageBrush resource, which just shows up white... Any ideas? • Custom UserControl property not being set via XAML DataBinding in Silverlight 4

    - by programatique
    I have a custom user control called GoalProgressControl. Another user control contains GoalProgressControl and sets its GoalName attribute via databinding in XAML. However, the GoalName property is never set. When I check it in debug mode GoalName remains "null" for the control's lifetime. How do I set the GoalName property? Is there something I am doing incorrectly? I am using .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4. I am relatively new to XAML and Silverlight so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attempted to change GoalProgressControl.GoalName into a POCO property but this causes a Silverlight error, and my reading leads me to believe that databound properties should be of type DependencyProperty. I've also simplified my code to just focus on the GoalName property (the code is below) with no success. Here is GoalProgressControl.xaml: <UserControl x:Class="GoalView.GoalProgressControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" DataContext="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" Height="100"> <Border Margin="5" Padding="5" BorderBrush="#999" BorderThickness="1"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding GoalName}"/> </Border> </UserControl> GoalProgressControl.xaml.cs: public partial class GoalProgressControl : UserControl, INotifyPropertyChanged { public GoalProgressControl() { InitializeComponent(); } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; public void NotifyPropertyChanged(string propertyName) { if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } public static DependencyProperty GoalNameProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("GoalName", typeof(string), typeof(GoalProgressControl), null); public string GoalName { get { return (String)GetValue(GoalProgressControl.GoalNameProperty); } set { base.SetValue(GoalProgressControl.GoalNameProperty, value); NotifyPropertyChanged("GoalName"); } } } I've placed GoalProgressControl on another page: <Grid Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Grid.ColumnSpan="2" Margin="5" Background="#eee" Height="200"> <Border BorderBrush="#999" BorderThickness="1" Background="White"> <StackPanel> <hgc:SectionTitleBar x:Name="ttlGoals" Title="Personal Goals" ImageSource="../Images/check.png" Uri="/Pages/GoalPage.xaml" MoreVisibility="Visible" /> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Path=GoalItems}"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <!--TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=[Name]}"/--> <goal:GoalProgressControl GoalName="{Binding Path=[Name]}"/> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> </StackPanel> </Border> </Grid> Please note the commented out "TextBlock" item above. If I comment in the TextBlock and comment out the GoalProgressControl, the binding works correctly and the TextBlock shows the GoalName correctly. Also, if I replace the "GoalName" property above with a simple text string (ex "hello world"), the control renders correctly and "hello world" is shown on the control when it renders.

  • How to validate and entry on a datagrid that is bound to an adapter

    - by Ziv
    Hi, I've been using C# for a while and began a program now to learn WPF-which means I know almost nothing of it. I used this tutorial as a guide to do what I wanted to do (which is binding a database to a datagrid), after a hard struggle to add the adapter as the source of the datagrid I now want to enable editing with validation on some of the cells. My problem is that the data is sent straight from the adapter and not through an object collection (I had a hard time getting to this situation, see the first half of the tutorial on how to bind the adapter and dataset through the resources) but the tutorial doesn't show a way to validate the datagrid if the data is sent through an adapter-only through a collection. To make it clear-how do I validate input in a datagrid that is bound to an adapter through a resource? The relevant code: (XAML) <Window.Resources> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="DiscsDataProvider" ObjectType="{x:Type local:DiscsDataProvider}" /> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="Discs" ObjectInstance="{StaticResource ResourceKey=DiscsDataProvider}" MethodName="GetDiscs" /> <Style x:Key="CellEditStyle" TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}"> <Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0"/> <Setter Property="Padding" Value="0"/> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Yellow"/> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="Validation.HasError" Value="true"> <Setter Property="ToolTip" Value="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=(Validation.Errors)[0].ErrorContent}"/> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Window.Resources> For the datagrid: <Grid Width="auto" Height="auto"> <DockPanel DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource ResourceKey=Discs}}"> <DataGrid Margin="12,0,0,12" Name="View_dg" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Width="533" Height="262" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" ItemsSource="{Binding}" AutoGenerateColumns="False" CanUserAddRows="False" CanUserDeleteRows="False" CanUserResizeColumns="True"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=ContainerID}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="True" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="False" Header="Container" /> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=ID}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="True" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="True" Header="ID" /> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=Title}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="True" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="False" Header="Title" /> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=SubTitle}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="False" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="False" Header="Sub Title" /> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=Type}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="True" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="False" Header="Type" /> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=Volume}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="False" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="False" Header="Volume" /> <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=TotalDiscs}" CanUserReorder="False" CanUserResize="True" CanUserSort="False" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource CellEditStyle}" IsReadOnly="False" Header="Total Discs" /> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> </DockPanel> and C#: public class DiscsDataProvider { private DiscsTableAdapter adapter; private DB dataset; public DiscsDataProvider() { dataset = new DB(); adapter = new DiscsTableAdapter(); adapter.Fill(dataset.Discs); } public DataView GetDiscs() { return dataset.Discs.DefaultView; } }

  • Changing color of HighlighBrushKey in XAML

    - by phil
    Hi, I have the following problem. The background color in a ListView is set LightGreen or White, whether a boolflag is true or false. Example Screen Window1.xaml: <Window.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type ListViewItem}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Path=BoolFlag}" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="LightGreen" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Window.Resources> <StackPanel> <ListView ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Personen}" SelectionMode="Single" SelectionChanged="ListViewSelectionChanged"> <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=Vorname}" Header="Vorname" /> <GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=Nachname}" Header="Nachname" /> <GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=Alter}" Header="Alter" /> <GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=BoolFlag}" Header="BoolFlag" /> </GridView> </ListView.View> </ListView> </StackPanel> Window1.xaml.cs: public partial class Window1 : Window { private IList<Person> _personen = new List<Person>(); public Window1() { _personen.Add(new Person { Vorname = "Max", Nachname = "Mustermann", Alter = 18, BoolFlag = false, }); _personen.Add(new Person { Vorname = "Karl", Nachname = "Mayer", Alter = 27, BoolFlag = true, }); _personen.Add(new Person { Vorname = "Josef", Nachname = "Huber", Alter = 38, BoolFlag = false, }); DataContext = this; InitializeComponent(); } public IList<Person> Personen { get { return _personen; } } private void ListViewSelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { Person person = e.AddedItems[0] as Person; if (person != null) { if (person.BoolFlag) { this.Resources[SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey] = Brushes.Green; } else { this.Resources[SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey] = Brushes.RoyalBlue; } } } } Person.cs: public class Person { public string Vorname { get; set; } public string Nachname { get; set; } public int Alter { get; set; } public bool BoolFlag { get; set; } } Now I want to set the highlight color of the selected item, depending on the boolflag. In Code-Behind I do this with: private void ListViewSelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { Person person = e.AddedItems[0] as Person; if (person != null) { if (person.BoolFlag) { this.Resources[SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey] = Brushes.Green; } else { this.Resources[SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey] = Brushes.RoyalBlue; } } } } This works fine, but now I want to define the code above in the XAML-file. With <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey}" Color="Green" /> I can overwrite the default-value. However, it works, but the color is set to Green for all selected items. I have tried different ways to switch the color of HighlightBrushKey between Green and Blue in XAML, depending on the boolflag, but I didn't succeed. May you can help me and give me some examples?

  • Templates and inheritance

    - by mariusz
    Hello, I have a big problem. I use additional controls for Wpf. One of them is Telerik RadWindow This control is already templated. Now I want to create custom Window with will inherit from RadWindow, and make custom template, eg. One base window will contains grid and two buttons, second base window will contain two grids (master - detail). The problem is that templates do not support inheritance. Perhaps is another way to template only the content of Winodow? My code, that doesn't work (empty window appears, so template doesn't apply) <Style TargetType="{x:Type local:TBaseRjWindow}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:TBaseRjContent}"> <Border Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"> <Grid Name="mGrid"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition MaxHeight="40" MinHeight="30" /> <RowDefinition MaxHeight="40" MinHeight="30" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition MaxHeight="40" MinHeight="30" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <telerik:RadGridView Margin="10,10,10,10" Name="grid" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" ScrollMode="Deferred" AutoGenerateColumns="False" Width="Auto" > </telerik:RadGridView> <telerik:RadDataPager Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" x:Name="radDataPager" PageSize="50" AutoEllipsisMode="None" DisplayMode="First, Previous, Next, Text" Margin="10,0,10,0"/> <StackPanel Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Margin="5 5 5 5" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="20" Width="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Center" > <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btAdd" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Dodaj" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btEdit" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Edytuj" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btDelete" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Usun" /> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Name="addFields" Background="LightGray" Visibility="Collapsed" VerticalAlignment="Top" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Width="Auto" Height="Auto" Orientation="Horizontal"> <GroupBox Header="Szczegoly" Margin="2 2 2 2" > <Grid VerticalAlignment="Top" DataContext="{Binding SelectedItem, ElementName=grid}" Name="_gAddFields" Margin="0 0 0 0" Width="Auto" Height="Auto" > </Grid> </GroupBox> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="0" Margin="5 5 5 5" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="25" Width="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Center" > <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btSave" IsDefault="True" Width="60" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Zapisz" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btOK" IsDefault="True" Width="60" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Akceptuj" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btCancel" IsCancel="True" Width="60" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Anuluj" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> Please help

  • wpftoolkit DataGridTemplateColumn Template binding

    - by Guillaume
    I want my datagrid columns to share a cell/celledit template. I have the solution do that (thanks to WPF DataGridTemplateColumn shared template?). Now what I would love to is improving the readability by avoiding all the node nesting. My current view looks like that: <wpftk:DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding Tests}" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <wpftk:DataGrid.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="CustomCellTemplate"> <TextBlock Text="{TemplateBinding Content}"/> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="CustomCellEditingTemplate"> <TextBox Text="{TemplateBinding Content}"></TextBox> </DataTemplate> </wpftk:DataGrid.Resources> <wpftk:DataGrid.Columns> <wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn Header="Start Date"> <wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <ContentPresenter ContentTemplate="{StaticResource CustomCellTemplate}" Content="{Binding StartDate}"/> </DataTemplate> </wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellEditingTemplate> <DataTemplate> <ContentPresenter ContentTemplate="{StaticResource CustomCellEditingTemplate}" Content="{Binding StartDate}"/> </DataTemplate> </wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellEditingTemplate> </wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn> <!--and again the whole block above for each columns...--> </wpftk:DataGrid.Columns> </wpftk:DataGrid> What I would like to achieve is to bind the value at the DataGridTemplateColumn level and propagate it to the template level. Anyone know how to do that? What I tried to do is something like that: <wpftk:DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding Tests}" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <wpftk:DataGrid.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="CustomCellTemplate"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding}"/> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="CustomCellEditingTemplate"> <TextBox Text="{Binding}"></TextBox> </DataTemplate> </wpftk:DataGrid.Resources> <wpftk:DataGrid.Columns> <wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn Header="Start Date" Binding="{Binding StartDate}" CellTemplate="{StaticResource CustomCellTemplate}" CellEditingTemplate="{StaticResource CustomCellEditingTemplate}"/> <wpftk:DataGridTemplateColumn Header="End Date" Binding="{Binding EndDate}" CellTemplate="{StaticResource CustomCellTemplate}" CellEditingTemplate="{StaticResource CustomCellEditingTemplate}"/> </wpftk:DataGrid.Columns> </wpftk:DataGrid> Obviously the binding porperty is not a valid property of the DataGridTemplateColumn but maybe by playing with the datacontext and some relative source could do the trick but frankly I can't find a way to implement that. Not sure if what I want is possible and i'm willing to accept a "no way you can do that" as an answer NOTE: The TextBlock/TextBox in the template is just for test (the real template is much more complex) DataGridTextColumn will not do the trick Thanks in advance

  • MasterDetails Loading on Demand problem

    - by devnet247
    Hi As an exercise to learn wpf and understand how binding works I have an example that works.However when I try to load on demand I fail miserably. I basically have 3 classes Country-City-Hotels If I load ALL in one go it all works if I load on demand it fails miserably. What Am I doing wrong? Works <Window x:Class="MasterDetailCollectionViewSource.CountryCityHotelWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="CountryCityHotelWindow" Height="300" Width="450"> <Window.Resources> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding}" x:Key="cvsCountryList"/> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCountryList},Path=Cities}" x:Key="cvsCityList"/> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCityList},Path=Hotels}" x:Key="cvsHotelList"/> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" Text="Countries"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="0" Text="Cities"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="0" Text="Hotels"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstCountries" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCountryList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstCities" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCityList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstHotels" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsHotelList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> </Grid> </Window> DOES NOT WORK Xaml is the same as above, however I have added the following that fetches stuff on demand. It loads the countries only as opposed to the other one where it Loads everything at once and not code behind is necessary. public CountryCityHotelWindow() { InitializeComponent(); //Load only country Initially lstCountries.ItemsSource=Repository.GetCountries(); DataContext = lstCountries; } private void OnSelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { var lstBox = (ListBox)e.OriginalSource; switch (lstBox.Name) { case "lstCountries": var country = lstBox.SelectedItem as Country; if (country == null) return; lstCities.ItemsSource = Repository.GetCities(country.Name); break; case "lstCities": var city = lstBox.SelectedItem as City; if (city == null) return; lstHotels.ItemsSource = Repository.GetHotels(city.Name); break; case "lstHotels": break; } } What Am I doing Wrong? Thanks

  • How to bind to the sum of two data bound values in WPF?

    - by Sheridan
    I have designed an analog clock control. It uses the stroke from two ellipses to represent an outer border and an inner border to the clock face. I have exposed properties in the UserControl that allow a user to alter the thickness of these two borders. The Ellipse.StrokeThickness properties are then bound to these UserControl properties. At the moment, I am binding the UserControl property for the outer border thickness to the margins of the inner elements so that they are not hidden when the border size is increased. <Ellipse Name="OuterBorder" Panel.ZIndex="1" StrokeThickness="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Stroke="{StaticResource OuterBorderBrush}" /> <Ellipse Name="InnerBorder" Panel.ZIndex="5" StrokeThickness="{Binding InnerBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Margin="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Stroke="{StaticResource InnerBorderBrush}"> ... <Ellipse Name="Face" Panel.ZIndex="1" Margin="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Fill="{StaticResource FaceBackgroundBrush}" /> ... The problem is that if the inner border thickness is increased, this does not affect the margins and so the hour ticks and numbers can become partially obscured or hidden. So what I really need is to be able to bind the margin properties of the inner controls to the sum of the inner and outer border thickness values (they are of type double). I have done this successfully using 'DataContext = this;', but am trying to rewrite the control without this as I hear it is not recommended. I also thought about using a converter and passing the second value as the ConverterParameter, but didn't know how to bind to the ConverterParameter. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. EDIT Thanks to Kent's suggestion, I've created a simple MultiConverter to add the input values and return the result. I've hooked the SAME multibinding with converter XAML to both a TextBlock.Text property and the TextBlock.Margin property to test it. <TextBlock> <TextBlock.Text> <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource SumConverter}" ConverterParameter="Add"> <Binding Path="OuterBorderThickness" ElementName="This" /> <Binding Path="InnerBorderThickness" ElementName="This" /> </MultiBinding> </TextBlock.Text> <TextBlock.Margin> <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource SumConverter}" ConverterParameter="Add"> <Binding Path="OuterBorderThickness" ElementName="This" /> <Binding Path="InnerBorderThickness" ElementName="This" /> </MultiBinding> </TextBlock.Margin> </TextBlock> I can see the correct value displayed in the TexBlock, but the Margin is not set. Any ideas? EDIT Interestingly, the Margin property can be bound to a data property of type double, but this does not seem to apply within a MultiBinding. As advised by Kent, I changed the Converter to return the value as a Thickness object and now it works. Thanks Kent.

  • DataGrid : Binding with two different classes with lists ? WPF C#

    - by MyRestlessDream
    It is my first question on StackOverflow so I hope I am doing nothing wrong ! Sorry if it is the case ! I need some help because I can not find the solution of my problem. Of course I have searched everywhere on the web but I can not find it (can not post the links that I am using because of my low reputation :( ). Moreover, I am new in C# and WPF (and self-learning). I used to work in C++/Qt so I do not know how everything works in WPF. And sorry for my English, I am French. My problem My basic classes are that an Employee can use a computer. The id of the computer and the date of use are stored into the class Connection. I would like to display the list information in a DataGrid and in RowDetailsTemplate like here : http://i.stack.imgur.com/Bvn1z.png So it will do a binding to the Employee class but also to the Connection class with only the last value of the property (here the last value of the list "Computer ID" and the last value of the list "Connection Date" on this last computer). So it is a loop in the different lists. How can I do it ? Is it too much to do ? :( I succeed to get the Employee informations but I do not know how to bind the list of computer. When I am trying, it shows me "(Collection)" so it does not go inside the list :( Summary of Questions How to display/bind a value from a list AND from a different class in a DataGrid ? How to display all the values of a list into the RowDetailsTemplate ? Under Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2010 Pro version. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EDIT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution I have used the solution of Stefan Denchev. Here the modification of my class : http://i.stack.imgur.com/Ijx5i.png And the code used: <DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding}" Name="table"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="First Name" Binding="{Binding FirstName}"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Last Name" Binding="{Binding LastName}"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Gender" Binding="{Binding Gender}"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Last computer used" Binding="{Binding LastComputerID}"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Last connection date" Binding="{Binding LastDate}"/> </DataGrid.Columns> <DataGrid.RowDetailsTemplate> <DataTemplate> <DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding ListOfConnection}"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Computer ID" Binding="{Binding ComputerID}"/> <DataGridTemplateColumn> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <ListView ItemsSource="{Binding ListOfDate}"/> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> </DataTemplate> </DataGrid.RowDetailsTemplate> </DataGrid> With in code behind : List<Employee> allEmployees = WorkflowMgr.Instance.AllEmployees; table.DataContext = allEmployees; And it works ! I have tryed to improve my fake example :) Hope it will help to another developer !

  • Setting up a new Silverlight 4 Project with WCF RIA Services

    - by Kevin Grossnicklaus
    Many of my clients are actively using Silverlight 4 and RIA Services to build powerful line of business applications.  Getting things set up correctly is critical to being to being able to take full advantage of the RIA services plumbing and when developers struggle with the setup they tend to shy away from the solution as a whole.  I’m a big proponent of RIA services and wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my experiences in setting up these types of projects.  In late 2010 I presented a RIA Services Master Class here in St. Louis, MO through my firm (ArchitectNow) and the information shared in this post was promised during that presentation. One other thing I want to mention before diving in is the existence of a number of other great posts on this subject.  I’ve learned a lot from many of them and wanted to call out a few of them.  The purpose of my post is to point out some of the gotchas that people get caught up on in the process but I would still encourage you to do as much additional research as you can to find the perfect setup for your needs. Here are a few additional blog posts and articles you should check out on the subject: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee707351(VS.91).aspx http://adam-thompson.com/post/2010/07/03/Getting-Started-with-WCF-RIA-Services-for-Silverlight-4.aspx Technologies I don’t intend for this post to turn into a full WCF RIA Services tutorial but I did want to point out what technologies we will be using: Visual Studio.NET 2010 Silverlight 4.0 WCF RIA Services for Visual Studio 2010 Entity Framework 4.0 I also wanted to point out that the screenshots came from my personal development box which has a number of additional plug-ins and frameworks loaded so a few of the screenshots might not match 100% with what you see on your own machines. If you do not have Visual Studio 2010 you can download the express version from http://www.microsoft.com/express.  The Silverlight 4.0 tools and the WCF RIA Services components are installed via the Web Platform Installer (http://www.microsoft.com/web/download). Also, the examples given in this post are done in C#…sorry to you VB folks but the concepts are 100% identical. Setting up anew RIA Services Project This section will provide a step-by-step walkthrough of setting up a new RIA services project using a shared DLL for server side code and a simple Entity Framework model for data access.  All projects are created with the consistent ArchitectNow.RIAServices filename prefix and default namespace.  This would be modified to match your companies standards. First, open Visual Studio and open the new project window via File->New->Project.  In the New Project window, select the Silverlight folder in the Installed Templates section on the left and select “Silverlight Application” as your project type.  Verify your solution name and location are set appropriately.  Note that the project name we specified in the example below ends with .Client.  This indicates the name which will be given to our Silverlight project. I consider Silverlight a client-side technology and thus use this name to reflect that.  Click Ok to continue. During the creation on a new Silverlight 4 project you will be prompted with the following dialog to create a new web ASP.NET web project to host your Silverlight content.  As we are demonstrating the setup of a WCF RIA Services infrastructure, make sure the “Enable WCF RIA Services” option is checked and click OK.  Obviously, there are some other options here which have an effect on your solution and you are welcome to look around.  For our example we are going to leave the ASP.NET Web Application Project selected.  If you are interested in having your Silverlight project hosted in an MVC 2 application or a Web Site project these options are available as well.  Also, whichever web project type you select, the name can be modified here as well.  Note that it defaults to the same name as your Silverlight project with the addition of a .Web suffix. At this point, your full Silverlight 4 project and host ASP.NET Web Application should be created and will now display in your Visual Studio solution explorer as part of a single Visual Studio solution as follows: Now we want to add our WCF RIA Services projects to this same solution.  To do so, right-click on the Solution node in the solution explorer and select Add->New Project.  In the New Project dialog again select the Silverlight folder under the Visual C# node on the left and, in the main area of the screen, select the WCF RIA Services Class Library project template as shown below.  Make sure your project name is set appropriately as well.  For the sample below, we will name the project “ArchitectNow.RIAServices.Server.Entities”.   The .Server.Entities suffix we use is meant to simply indicate that this particular project will contain our WCF RIA Services entity classes (as you will see below).  Click OK to continue. Once you have created the WCF RIA Services Class Library specified above, Visual Studio will automatically add TWO projects to your solution.  The first will be an project called .Server.Entities (using our naming conventions) and the other will have the same name with a .Web extension.  The full solution (with all 4 projects) is shown in the image below.  The .Entities project will essentially remain empty and is actually a Silverlight 4 class library that will contain generated RIA Services domain objects.  It will be referenced by our front-end Silverlight project and thus allow for simplified sharing of code between the client and the server.   The .Entities.Web project is a .NET 4.0 class library into which we will put our data access code (via Entity Framework).  This is our server side code and business logic and the RIA Services plumbing will maintain a link between this project and the front end.  Specific entities such as our domain objects and other code we set to be shared will be copied automatically into the .Entities project to be used in both the front end and the back end. At this point, we want to do a little cleanup of the projects in our solution and we will do so by deleting the “Class1.cs” class from both the .Entities project and the .Entities.Web project.  (Has anyone ever intentionally named a class “Class1”?) Next, we need to configure a few references to make RIA Services work.  THIS IS A KEY STEP THAT CAUSES MANY HEADACHES FOR DEVELOPERS NEW TO THIS INFRASTRUCTURE! Using the Add References dialog in Visual Studio, add a project reference from the *.Client project (our Silverlight 4 client) to the *.Entities project (our RIA Services class library).  Next, again using the Add References dialog in Visual Studio, add a project reference from the *.Client.Web project (our ASP.NET host project) to the *.Entities.Web project (our back-end data services DLL).  To get to the Add References dialog, simply right-click on the project you with to add a reference to in the Visual Studio solution explorer and select “Add Reference” from the resulting context menu.  You will want to make sure these references are added as “Project” references to simplify your future debugging.  To reiterate the reference direction using the project names we have utilized in this example thus far:  .Client references .Entities and .Client.Web reference .Entities.Web.  If you have opted for a different naming convention, then the Silverlight project must reference the RIA Services Silverlight class library and the ASP.NET host project must reference the server-side class library. Next, we are going to add a new Entity Framework data model to our data services project (.Entities.Web).  We will do this by right clicking on this project (ArchitectNow.Server.Entities.Web in the above diagram) and selecting Add->New Project.  In the New Project dialog we will select ADO.NET Entity Data Model as in the following diagram.  For now we will call this simply SampleDataModel.edmx and click OK. It is worth pointing out that WCF RIA Services is in no way tied to the Entity Framework as a means of accessing data and any data access technology is supported (as long as the server side implementation maps to the RIA Services pattern which is a topic beyond the scope of this post).  We are using EF to quickly demonstrate the RIA Services concepts and setup infrastructure, as such, I am not providing a database schema with this post but am instead connecting to a small sample database on my local machine.  The following diagram shows a simple EF Data Model with two tables that I reverse engineered from a local data store.   If you are putting together your own solution, feel free to reverse engineer a few tables from any local database to which you have access. At this point, once you have an EF data model generated as an EDMX into your .Entites.Web project YOU MUST BUILD YOUR SOLUTION.  I know it seems strange to call that out but it important that the solution be built at this point for the next step to be successful.  Obviously, if you have any build errors, these must be addressed at this point. At this point we will add a RIA Services Domain Service to our .Entities.Web project (our server side code).  We will need to right-click on the .Entities.Web project and select Add->New Item.  In the Add New Item dialog, select Domain Service Class and verify the name of your new Domain Service is correct (ours is called SampleService.cs in the image below).  Next, click "Add”. After clicking “Add” to include the Domain Service Class in the selected project, you will be presented with the following dialog.  In it, you can choose which entities from the selected EDMX to include in your services and if they should be allowed to be edited (i.e. inserted, updated, or deleted) via this service.  If the “Available DataContext/ObjectContext classes” dropdown is empty, this indicates you have not yes successfully built your project after adding your EDMX.  I would also recommend verifying that the “Generate associated classes for metadata” option is selected.  Once you have selected the appropriate options, click “OK”. Once you have added the domain service class to the .Entities.Web project, the resulting solution should look similar to the following: Note that in the solution you now have a SampleDataModel.edmx which represents your EF data mapping to your database and a SampleService.cs which will contain a large amount of generated RIA Services code which RIA Services utilizes to access this data from the Silverlight front-end.  You will put all your server side data access code and logic into the SampleService.cs class.  The SampleService.metadata.cs class is for decorating the generated domain objects with attributes from the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace for validation purposes. FINAL AND KEY CONFIGURATION STEP!  One key step that causes significant headache to developers configuring RIA Services for the first time is the fact that, when we added the EDMX to the .Entities.Web project for our EF data access, a connection string was generated and placed within a newly generated App.Context file within that project.  While we didn’t point it out at the time you can see it in the image above.  This connection string will be required for the EF data model to successfully locate it’s data.  Also, when we added the Domain Service class to the .Entities.Web project, a number of RIA Services configuration options were added to the same App.Config file.   Unfortunately, when we ultimately begin to utilize the RIA Services infrastructure, our Silverlight UI will be making RIA services calls through the ASP.NET host project (i.e. .Client.Web).  This host project has a reference to the .Entities.Web project which actually contains the code so all will pass through correctly EXCEPT the fact that the host project will utilize it’s own Web.Config for any configuration settings.  For this reason we must now merge all the sections of the App.Config file in the .Entities.Web project into the Web.Config file in the .Client.Web project.  I know this is a bit tedious and I wish there were a simpler solution but it is required for our RIA Services Domain Service to be made available to the front end Silverlight project.  Much of this manual merge can be achieved by simply cutting and pasting from App.Config into Web.Config.  Unfortunately, the <system.webServer> section will exist in both and the contents of this section will need to be manually merged.  Fortunately, this is a step that needs to be taken only once per solution.  As you add additional data structures and Domain Services methods to the server no additional changes will be necessary to the Web.Config. Next Steps At this point, we have walked through the basic setup of a simple RIA services solution.  Unfortunately, there is still a lot to know about RIA services and we have not even begun to take advantage of the plumbing which we just configured (meaning we haven’t even made a single RIA services call).  I plan on posting a few more introductory posts over the next few weeks to take us to this step.  If you have any questions on the content in this post feel free to reach out to me via this Blog and I’ll gladly point you in (hopefully) the right direction. Resources Prior to closing out this post, I wanted to share a number or resources to help you get started with RIA services.  While I plan on posting more on the subject, I didn’t invent any of this stuff and wanted to give credit to the following areas for helping me put a lot of these pieces into place.   The books and online resources below will go a long way to making you extremely productive with RIA services in the shortest time possible.  The only thing required of you is the dedication to take advantage of the resources available. • WPF ComboBox Binding to non string object

    - by Mike L
    I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template? Here is the XAML: <Window x:Class="MvvmLight1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="300" Width="300" DataContext="{Binding Main, Source={StaticResource Locator}}"> <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Skins/MainSkin.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <DataTemplate x:Key="DataTemplate1"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding CourtCode}"/> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text=" - "/> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding CourtDescription}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ResourceDictionary> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <ComboBox x:Name="cmbAbbrevDescriptions" Height="35" Margin="25,75,25,25" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding Codes}" ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource DataTemplate1}" SelectedItem="{Binding selectedCode}" /> <ComboBox x:Name="cmbStrings" Height="35" Margin="25" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding strs}" SelectedItem="{Binding selectedStr}"/> </Grid> </Window> And, if helpful, here is the ViewModel: using GalaSoft.MvvmLight; using MvvmLight1.Model; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace MvvmLight1.ViewModel { public class MainViewModel : ViewModelBase { public const string CodesPropertyName = "Codes"; private List<Court> _codes = null; public List<Court> Codes { get { return _codes; } set { if (_codes == value) { return; } var oldValue = _codes; _codes = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(CodesPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string selectedCodePropertyName = "selectedCode"; private Court _selectedCode = null; public Court selectedCode { get { return _selectedCode; } set { if (_selectedCode == value) { return; } var oldValue = _selectedCode; _selectedCode = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(selectedCodePropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string strsPropertyName = "strs"; private List<string> _strs = null; public List<string> strs { get { return _strs; } set { if (_strs == value) { return; } var oldValue = _strs; _strs = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(strsPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string selectedStrPropertyName = "selectedStr"; private string _selectedStr = ""; public string selectedStr { get { return _selectedStr; } set { if (_selectedStr == value) { return; } var oldValue = _selectedStr; _selectedStr = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(selectedStrPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the MainViewModel class. /// </summary> public MainViewModel() { Codes = new List<Court>(); Court code1 = new Court(); code1.CourtCode = "ABC"; code1.CourtDescription = "A Court"; Court code2 = new Court(); code2.CourtCode = "DEF"; code2.CourtDescription = "Second Court"; Codes.Add(code1); Codes.Add(code2); Court code3 = new Court(); code3.CourtCode = "DEF"; code3.CourtDescription = "Second Court"; selectedCode = code3; selectedStr = "Hello"; strs = new List<string>(); strs.Add("Goodbye"); strs.Add("Hello"); strs.Add("Ciao"); } } } And here is the ridiculously trivial class that is being exposed: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace MvvmLight1.Model { public class Court { public string CourtCode { get; set; } public string CourtDescription { get; set; } } } Thanks!

  • Am I going about this the right way?

    - by Psytronic
    Hey Guys, I'm starting a WPF project, and just finished the base of the UI, it seems very convoluted though, so I'm not sure if I've gone around laying it out in the right way. I don't want to get to start developing the back-end and realise that I've done the front wrong, and make life harder for myself. Coming from a background of <DIV's and CSS to style this is a lot different, and really want to get it right from the start. Essentially it's a one week calendar (7 days, Mon-Sunday, defaulting to the current week.) Which will eventually link up to a DB and if I have an appointment for something on this day it will show it in the relevant day. I've opted for a Grid rather than ListView because of the way it will work I will not be binding the results to a collection or anything along those lines. Rather I will be filling out a Combo box within the canvas for each day (yet to be placed in the code) for each event and on selection it will show me further details. XAML: <Window x:Class="WOW_Widget.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" • Big smart ViewModels, dumb Views, and any model, the best MVVM approach?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    The following code is a refactoring of my previous MVVM approach (Fat Models, skinny ViewModels and dumb Views, the best MVVM approach?) in which I moved the logic and INotifyPropertyChanged implementation from the model back up into the ViewModel. This makes more sense, since as was pointed out, you often you have to use models that you either can't change or don't want to change and so your MVVM approach should be able to work with any model class as it happens to exist. This example still allows you to view the live data from your model in design mode in Visual Studio and Expression Blend which I think is significant since you could have a mock data store that the designer connects to which has e.g. the smallest and largest strings that the UI can possibly encounter so that he can adjust the design based on those extremes. Questions: I'm a bit surprised that I even have to "put a timer" in my ViewModel since it seems like that is a function of INotifyPropertyChanged, it seems redundant, but it was the only way I could get the XAML UI to constantly (once per second) reflect the state of my model. So it would be interesting to hear anyone who may have taken this approach if you encountered any disadvantages down the road, e.g. with threading or performance. The following code will work if you just copy the XAML and code behind into a new WPF project. XAML: <Window x:Class="TestMvvm73892.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:TestMvvm73892" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.Resources> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="DataSourceCustomer" ObjectType="{x:Type local:CustomerViewModel}" MethodName="GetCustomerViewModel"/> </Window.Resources> <DockPanel DataContext="{StaticResource DataSourceCustomer}"> <StackPanel DockPanel.Dock="Top" Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=FirstName}"/> <TextBlock Text=" "/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=LastName}"/> </StackPanel> <StackPanel DockPanel.Dock="Top" Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=TimeOfMostRecentActivity}"/> </StackPanel> </DockPanel> </Window> Code Behind: using System; using System.Windows; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Threading; namespace TestMvvm73892 { public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); } } //view model public class CustomerViewModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { private string _firstName; private string _lastName; private DateTime _timeOfMostRecentActivity; private Timer _timer; public string FirstName { get { return _firstName; } set { _firstName = value; this.RaisePropertyChanged("FirstName"); } } public string LastName { get { return _lastName; } set { _lastName = value; this.RaisePropertyChanged("LastName"); } } public DateTime TimeOfMostRecentActivity { get { return _timeOfMostRecentActivity; } set { _timeOfMostRecentActivity = value; this.RaisePropertyChanged("TimeOfMostRecentActivity"); } } public CustomerViewModel() { _timer = new Timer(CheckForChangesInModel, null, 0, 1000); } private void CheckForChangesInModel(object state) { Customer currentCustomer = CustomerViewModel.GetCurrentCustomer(); MapFieldsFromModeltoViewModel(currentCustomer, this); } public static CustomerViewModel GetCustomerViewModel() { CustomerViewModel customerViewModel = new CustomerViewModel(); Customer currentCustomer = CustomerViewModel.GetCurrentCustomer(); MapFieldsFromModeltoViewModel(currentCustomer, customerViewModel); return customerViewModel; } public static void MapFieldsFromModeltoViewModel(Customer model, CustomerViewModel viewModel) { viewModel.FirstName = model.FirstName; viewModel.LastName = model.LastName; viewModel.TimeOfMostRecentActivity = model.TimeOfMostRecentActivity; } public static Customer GetCurrentCustomer() { return Customer.GetCurrentCustomer(); } //INotifyPropertyChanged implementation public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; private void RaisePropertyChanged(string property) { if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(property)); } } } //model public class Customer { public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } public DateTime TimeOfMostRecentActivity { get; set; } public static Customer GetCurrentCustomer() { return new Customer { FirstName = "Jim", LastName = "Smith", TimeOfMostRecentActivity = DateTime.Now }; } } }

  • Master Details and collectionViewSource in separate views cannot make it work.

    - by devnet247
    Hi all, I really cannot seem to make/understand how it works with separate views It all works fine if a bundle all together in a single window. I have a list of Countries-Cities-etc... When you select a country it should load it's cities. Works So I bind 3 listboxes successfully using collection sources and no codebehind more or less (just code to set the datacontext and selectionChanged). you can download the project here http://cid-9db5ae91a2948485.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/PublicFolder/2MasterDetails.zip <Window.Resources> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding}" x:Key="cvsCountryList"/> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCountryList},Path=Cities}" x:Key="cvsCityList"/> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCityList},Path=Hotels}" x:Key="cvsHotelList"/> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" Text="Countries"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="0" Text="Cities"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="0" Text="Hotels"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstCountries" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCountryList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstCities" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCityList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstHotels" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsHotelList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> </Grid> Does not work I am trying to implement the same using a view for each eg(LeftSideMasterControl -RightSideDetailsControls) However I cannot seem to make them bind. I am putting together a quick demo before we go for the full implementation I have a treeview on the left with Continent Country City structure when a user select the city it should populate some textboxes in a tabcontrol on the right hand side I made it sort of work but cannot make it work with composite objects. In a nutshell can you spot what is wrong with my zaml or code. Why is not binding to a my CityDetails.ClubsCount or CityDetails.PubsCount? What I am building is based on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/TreeViewWithViewModel.aspx Thanks a lot for any suggestions or reply DataModel public class City { public City(string cityName) { CityName = cityName; } public string CityName { get; set; } public string Population { get; set; } public string Area { get; set; } public CityDetails CityDetailsInfo { get; set; } } public class CityDetails { public CityDetails(int pubsCount,int clubsCount) { PubsCount = pubsCount; ClubsCount = clubsCount; } public int ClubsCount { get; set; } public int PubsCount { get; set; } } ViewModel public class CityViewModel : TreeViewItemViewModel { private City _city; private RelayCommand _testCommand; public CityViewModel(City city, CountryViewModel countryViewModel):base(countryViewModel,false) { _city = city; } public string CityName { get { return _city.CityName; } } public string Area { get { return _city.Area; } } public string Population { get { return _city.Population; } } public City City { get { return _city; } set { _city = value; } } public CityDetails CityDetailsInfo { get { return _city.CityDetailsInfo; } set { _city.CityDetailsInfo = value; } } } XAML <DockPanel> <DockPanel LastChildFill="True"> <Label DockPanel.Dock="top" Content="Title " HorizontalAlignment="Center"></Label> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> <StatusBarItem Content="Status Bar" ></StatusBarItem> </StatusBar> <Grid DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="2*"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <TreeView Name="tree" ItemsSource="{Binding Continents}"> <TreeView.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="{x:Type TreeViewItem}"> <Setter Property="IsExpanded" Value="{Binding IsExpanded,Mode=TwoWay}"/> <Setter Property="IsSelected" Value="{Binding IsSelected,Mode=TwoWay}"/> <Setter Property="FontWeight" Value="Normal"/> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True"> <Setter Property="FontWeight" Value="Bold"></Setter> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </TreeView.ItemContainerStyle> <TreeView.Resources> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:ContinentViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Width="16" Height="16" Margin="3,0" Source="Images\Continent.png"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding ContinentName}"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:CountryViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Width="16" Height="16" Margin="3,0" Source="Images\Country.png"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding CountryName}"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:CityViewModel}" > <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Width="16" Height="16" Margin="3,0" Source="Images\City.png"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding CityName}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </TreeView.Resources> </TreeView> <GridSplitter Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Background="LightGray" Width="5" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"/> <Grid Grid.Column="2" Margin="5" > <TabControl> <TabItem Header="Details" DataContext="{Binding Path=SelectedItem.City, ElementName=tree, Mode=OneWay}"> <StackPanel > <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding CityName}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding Area}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding Population}"/> <!-- DONT WORK WHY--> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding SelectedItem.CityDetailsInfo.ClubsCount}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding SelectedItem.CityDetailsInfo.PubsCount}"/> </StackPanel> </TabItem> </TabControl> </Grid> </Grid> </DockPanel> </DockPanel>

  • Trouble updating my datagrid in WPF

    - by wrigley06
    As the title indicates, I'm having trouble updating a datagrid in WPF. Basically what I'm trying to accomplish is a datagrid, that is connected to a SQL Server database, that updates automatically once a user enters information into a few textboxes and clicks a submit button. You'll notice that I have a command that joins two tables. The data from the Quote_Data table will be inserted by a different user at a later time. For now my only concern is getting the information from the textboxes and into the General_Info table, and from there into my datagrid. The code, which I'll include below compiles fine, but when I hit the submit button, nothing happens. This is the first application I've ever built working with a SQL Database so many of these concepts are new to me, which is why you'll probably look at my code and wonder what is he thinking. public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } public DataSet mds; // main data set (mds) private void Window_Loaded_1(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { try { string connectionString = Sqtm.Properties.Settings.Default.SqtmDbConnectionString; using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString)) { connection.Open(); //Merging tables General_Info and Quote_Data SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT General_Info.Quote_ID, General_Info.Open_Quote, General_Info.Customer_Name," + "General_Info.OEM_Name, General_Info.Qty, General_Info.Quote_Num, General_Info.Fab_Drawing_Num, " + "General_Info.Rfq_Num, General_Info.Rev_Num, Quote_Data.MOA, Quote_Data.MOQ, " + "Quote_Data.Markup, Quote_Data.FOB, Quote_Data.Shipping_Method, Quote_Data.Freight, " + "Quote_Data.Vendor_Price, Unit_Price, Quote_Data.Difference, Quote_Data.Vendor_NRE_ET, " + "Quote_Data.NRE, Quote_Data.ET, Quote_Data.STI_NET, Quote_Data.Mfg_Time, Quote_Data.Delivery_Time, " + "Quote_Data.Mfg_Name, Quote_Data.Mfg_Location " + "FROM General_Info INNER JOIN dbo.Quote_Data ON General_Info.Quote_ID = Quote_Data.Quote_ID", connection); SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); da.Fill(dt); MainGrid.ItemsSource = dt.DefaultView; mds = new DataSet(); da.Fill(mds, "General_Info"); MainGrid.DataContext = mds.Tables["General_Info"]; } } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } // renaming column names from the database so they are easier to read in the datagrid MainGrid.Columns[0].Header = "#"; MainGrid.Columns[1].Header = "Date"; MainGrid.Columns[2].Header = "Customer"; MainGrid.Columns[3].Header = "OEM"; MainGrid.Columns[4].Header = "Qty"; MainGrid.Columns[5].Header = "Quote Number"; MainGrid.Columns[6].Header = "Fab Drawing Num"; MainGrid.Columns[7].Header = "RFQ Number"; MainGrid.Columns[8].Header = "Rev Number"; MainGrid.Columns[9].Header = "MOA"; MainGrid.Columns[10].Header = "MOQ"; MainGrid.Columns[11].Header = "Markup"; MainGrid.Columns[12].Header = "FOB"; MainGrid.Columns[13].Header = "Shipping"; MainGrid.Columns[14].Header = "Freight"; MainGrid.Columns[15].Header = "Vendor Price"; MainGrid.Columns[16].Header = "Unit Price"; MainGrid.Columns[17].Header = "Difference"; MainGrid.Columns[18].Header = "Vendor NRE/ET"; MainGrid.Columns[19].Header = "NRE"; MainGrid.Columns[20].Header = "ET"; MainGrid.Columns[21].Header = "STINET"; MainGrid.Columns[22].Header = "Mfg.
