• What should I know before starting my first consulting project?

  I just got a job for a small project. I have all the relevant skills and knowledge to complete the project, but I am concerned about getting screwed over because this is my first time working on a consultant basis. We have already agreed on an hourly wage that I'm happy with, so that's not an issue. I'm just worried that since this is my first time working on my own, I'm going to make some mistakes that could be easily avoided if I had someone give me advice beforehand. This is what I already know to do/not do: -Get everything in writing -Limit the scope of the project. Once I start the actually coding, all features should be frozen. -Make sure to communicate constantly with my client. In addition he wants an max hourly cap. What is a good way to come up with one? What else do I need to know?

  I know some of you have been waiting patiently, so I'm pleased to announce that the JET bundle is now available for download on the Oracle Technology Network. I've migrated most of the content from the old Sun wiki site, and got the download in a single handy location on OTN. Download JET now.  The version available is the current latest, which is 4.9.4. This version contains a number of updates, the most significant of which is the ability to specify slot locations instead of the traditional cXtYdZsN nomenclature. This is pretty useful when trying to Jumpstart multiple servers with SAS2.0 based HBAs, as they will have the WWN embedded in the cXtYdZsN name, and it's pretty difficult to guess what that will be until you've booted the server. The JetSDS and JetZFS modules have also been updated to use the slot terminology. Happy JETing,

• Connecting BSNL Broadband Internet in Ubuntu

  Hi friends I am not able to connect my broadband connection with ubuntu and it doesnt work. The connection works fine when I use Windows7 but when i use ubuntu I am not able to access the internet. I followed various steps mentioned in various sites and still could not find a solution. I have installed ubuntu 8.04 in my system. The interface eth0 is not at all detected and when i use the menu system-administrator-network I am not getting an option for wired connection. Just the WIreless connection and Point to Point connection tabs are available.. It's really urgent.. I'll be very happy if u guys can propose to me a working solution to deal with this problem.. • Password Authentication Problems

  I am new to Ubuntu, am extremely delighted with the performance and speed, as compared to Windows 7-However, I messed up, I think...when I booted my USB disc, I set a password, as directed, and when Ubuntu booted up I tried to reset my password via User Accounts to "None". Now, the Password Authentication window prevents me from downloading software, (Audacity and my Ubuntu updates. Also, I've tried to boot into GRUB and the Recovery Console, as directed; however, the PC bypasses GRUB and boots into Ubuntu instead. Also, when attempting to use the terminal as directed to change the password, I'm given a password prompt there also. If the problem is on my end, could you email/reset my password? My PC is an emachines EL1358G. I am otherwise happy with Ubuntu!

• How to remove a page from site without affecting google serp

  I have a travel website. Just for information purposes, I had put a weather page. Now I realize that this page is increasing my overall bounce rate; because people who are looking for the weather forecast are landing on that page and getting what they want and exiting. What is the safest method to get rid of that page? Would it hurt my google rank if I remove it completely? Or is there a better way to handle this situation? I realize that around 21 percent of my daily hits are on that page. I would have been happy if my aim was to provide weather data for the location; however, my site needs to focus on selling hotels. So I think I need to get rid of this weather page immediately. What do you think?

• Amnesic Environment

  My team is looking for a technical term which may or may not exist. We are trying to describe an environment, such as a database, which has been built up over time with little or documentation about the change process that has gone into it. Generally these are legacy systems who's original developers have long since moved on and they are in such a tangled and unmanageable state that the only way to recreate the environment, say for testing purposes, is to copy it and do your best guess at re-configuring it for its new purpose. So far the best term we have come up with is Amnesic, such as "setting up the new test environment is going to be a challenge because it is an amnesic db." However, we are still not quite happy with the term and were wondering if a better and/or more accepted term for this situation exists.

• Ubuntu install doesn't run on latest Nexus7 64Gb?

  I tried installing Ubuntu on my recently purchased (for this purpose!) Nexus 7 64Gb, with the Cellular option. When I rebooted with Ubuntu, it didn't come up. I know, I need to post the errors I received. I was in a hurry to get back to something usable for the holiday (on the road, Thanksgiving, etc.), so I just reinstalled Android for now. When I have time, I'll post more of the errors. All I remember right now is that it dropped into busybox and I didn't have a keyboard or any way to attach one. (I used the 32Gb Ubuntu, by the way.) Have others seen this? Happy Thanksgiving! More later, I promise.

• After replacing all tables in an old website with divs, what other steps should I take?

  I have designed a website a few years back, and it ranks pretty well, customer is happy, no problems there. I took one of the pages and replaced manually all the tables with divs, used structured data and got the website to look exactly the same. I would like to know, what other steps should I take to improve or at least not hurt this page's rank, or if perhaps I should juts not bother altogether. What are best practices here?   I switched from Windows to Ubuntu 4 months ago and I am really happy with it. I set up a dual-boot system (since I wasn´t sure how it will end up with me and Ubuntu). After merging from Citavi to Zotero I need windows only for my scanner. The problem I have now is, that the windows partion is so big with lots of unused space and the ubuntu partition are quite small - I should have though about this problem 4 months ago... My partitions look like this: Where sda3 is the windows partition, sda5 is Ubuntu and sda7 is a data partition. I want to shrink sda3 and free some space for sda5 and sda3. How can this be done safely (and easily)?

• Hosting my own SVN repositories

  I've been experimenting with Google Code and Sourceforge and the like, and am happy with what I've found. The main problem with them, is that you have to have your project be open source to use them, so anybody can edit them. So... is there some way I can have my own svn repositories on my own server? I have FTP access, cpanel, and all that. • Failed Vista/Ubuntu 12.04 attempt at dual boot. Can only boot Ubuntu now

  I recently tried installing Ubuntu 12.04 alongside my Windows Vista install. I can boot fine into Ubuntu every time, but now every time I choose to boot into Windows, the process fails completely and restarts (or shuts down) my laptop. Is there anything I can do to recover this. I am very happy with Ubuntu and I do not want to recover my old Vista installation to overwrite it, but I do need to be able to use both OS's. Is it recoverable or should I start from scratch?

  Microsoft has recently launched Razor view engine with ASP.NET MVC RC2. It’s going to be promising one. There are lots of features bundled with this view engine. But in earlier version of ASP.NET 3 MVC. We were are not having Synatx intellisense provided for asp.net mvc views  in Visual Studio 2010. So either we have to depend third party tools like Resharper or we have to manage it without intellisesnse. But with ASP.NET MVC 3 RC2 Microsoft has moved one step forward and its providing syntax intellisense without installing any third party addons in Visual Studio. Here is example of it. • Found a better solution to a problem at work - should I deter from posting the code snippet online?

  I think most of us, programmers, used Stack Overflow to solve every day problems: looked for an efficient algorithm to do something. Now imagine a situation: you have a problem to solve. Googled a bit, found a StackOverflow question but you are not really satisfied with the answers so far. So you have to do your own research: you need to do it because you want it in the company's app. Eventually after some hours you have found the better solution. You're happy, you added it to the company's code base, then you want to submit your answer with a code snippet (just several lines) to the question you've found before to help others too. But wait: the company's software is closed source, and you worked on it on the clock. So does this mean I shouldn't post the answer neither at work nor at home to that question in the rest of my life, because I solved it at work, and the company owns that piece of code?

  I want have a script that I can give to friends which will add repositories and download files, install them without having to use command as they are not command line savey and have no desire to learn. I need to know how to get the script to prompt them for the root password to allow them to do some of these functions. How would I go about this? Please don't hate on them.. Getting them to start using Linux was a big step and I am just happy that they are attempting something new... and it was in the open source world..

• Can I stop battery charging at say 80% and switch to AC?

  While I was looking for a battery management utility for my Dell E5420, I came to read this post - How can I limit battery charging to 80% capacity? . Sofar, I haven't found one that relates to my laptop. So, I wonder now if any battery manager utility can be found for my laptop specified above. I would be happy if someone could point me if such utility is available under Ubuntu 12.04 that can stop charging a battery at a certain percentage and to ONLY use A/C mode. Again, to start using battery mode when the A/C is off or when the battery level reaches at certain level. Thanks for all your help. Elim.

• Play music from computer on phone, over WiFi?

  Wasn't sure whether to ask on here on on android.stackexchange.com ... but I want to play music which is on my desktop machine through my phone. The music is coming from ext4 partition which I am happy to share on the LAN. It should use WiFi not bluetooth (because I hope to use the bluetooth interface for other things, simultaneously). Is it possible and what do I need to setup on the desktop (on Ubuntu 12.04) and/or my phone (galaxy nexus)? edit: Just to clarify, I want the music to be playing from the phone, not through the desktop's speakers.

Like, if I click a button "Snap Left", I want my program window to snap to the left, just like when its drug over there manually. I looked all over SO, but all the questions seem to be about aero snap not working with a form, and keeping it from snapping a form. Not programmatically snapping a form.
