  • Lightweight HTTP application/server for static content

    - by PartlyCloudy
    Hi, I am in need of a scalable and performant HTTP application/server that will be used for static file serving/uploading. So I only need support for GET and PUT operations. However, there are a few extra features that I need: Custom authentication: I need to check credentials against a database for each request. Thus I must be able to integrate propietary database interaction. Support for signed access keys: The access to resources via PUT should be signed using a key like http://uri/?key=foo The key then contains information about the request like md5(user + path + secret) which allows me to block unwanted requests. The application/server should allow me to check for this. Performance: I'd like to avoid piping content as much as possible. Otherwise the whole application could be implemented in Perl/etc. in a few lines as CGI. Perlbal (in webserver mode) looks nice, however the single-threaded model does not fit with my database lookup and it does also not support query strings. Lighttp/Nginx/… have some modules for these tasks, however it is not feasible putting everything together without ending up writing own extensions/modules. So how would you solve this? Are there other leightweight webservers available for this? Should I implement an application inside of a webserver (i.e. CGI). How can I avoid/speed up piping content between the webserver and my application. Thanks in advance!

  • How to effectively execute this cron job?

    - by Lost_in_code
    I have a table with 200 rows. I'm running a cron job every 10 minutes to perform some kind of insert/update operation on the table. The operation needs to be performed only on 5 rows at a time every time the cron job runs. So in first 10 mins records 1-5 are updated, records 5-10 in the 20th minute and so on. When the cron job runs for the 20th time, all the records in the table would have been updated exactly once. This is what is to be achieved at least. And the next cron job should repeat the process again. The problem: is that, every time a cron job runs, the insert/update operation should be performed on N rows (not just 5 rows). So, if N is 100, all records would've been updated by just 2 cron jobs. And the next cron job would repeat the process again. Here's an example: This is the table I currently have (200 records). Every time a cron job executes, it needs to pick N records (which I set as a variable in PHP) and update the time_md5 field with the current time's MD5 value. +---------+-------------------------------------+ | id | time_md5 | +---------+-------------------------------------+ | 10 | 971324428e62dd6832a2778582559977 | | 72 | 1bd58291594543a8cc239d99843a846c | | 3 | 9300278bc5f114a290f6ed917ee93736 | | 40 | 915bf1c5a1f13404add6612ec452e644 | | 599 | 799671e31d5350ff405c8016a38c74eb | | 56 | 56302bb119f1d03db3c9093caf98c735 | | 798 | 47889aa559636b5512436776afd6ba56 | | 8 | 85fdc72d3b51f0b8b356eceac710df14 | | .. | ....... | | .. | ....... | | .. | ....... | | .. | ....... | | 340 | 9217eab5adcc47b365b2e00bbdcc011a | <-- 200th record +---------+-------------------------------------+ So, the first record(id 10) should not be updated more than once, till all 200 records are updated once - the process should start over once all the records are updated once. I have some idea on how this could be achieved, but I'm sure there are more efficient ways of doing it. Any suggestions?

  • Ideal HTTP cache control headers for different types of resources

    - by chris_l
    I want to find a minimal set of headers, that work with "all" caches and browsers (also when using HTTPS!) On my (GWT-based) web site, I'll have three kinds of resources: 1. Forever cacheable (public / equal for all users) These files don't ever change, and they get a filename based on the MD5 of their contents (this is GWT's approach). They should get cached as much as possible, even when using HTTPS (so I assume, I should set Cache-Control: public, especially for Firefox?) 2. Changing for every new version of the site (public / equal for all users) These files can be cached, but probably need to be revalidated every time. 3. Individual for each request (private / user specific) These resources (e. g. JSON responses) should never be cached unencrypted to disk under no circumstances. (Maybe I'll have a few specific requests that could be cached.) I have a general idea on which headers I would probably use for each type, but there's always something I could be missing.

  • Best way to sign data in web form with user certificate

    - by salgiza
    We have a C# web app where users will connect using a digital certificate stored in their browsers. From the examples that we have seen, verifying their identity will be easy once we enable SSL, as we can access the fields in the certificate, using Request.ClientCertificate, to check the user's name. We have also been requested, however, to sign the data sent by the user (a few simple fields and a binary file) so that we can prove, without doubt, which user entered each record in our database. Our first thought was creating a small text signature including the fields (and, if possible, the md5 of the file) and encrypt it with the private key of the certificate, but... As far as I know we can't access the private key of the certificate to sign the data, and I don't know if there is any way to sign the fields in the browser, or we have no other option than using a Java applet. And if it's the latter, how we would do it (Is there any open source applet we can use? Would it be better if we create one ourselves?) Of course, it would be better if there was any way to "sign" the fields received in the server, using the data that we can access from the user's certificate. But if not, any info on the best way to solve the problem would be appreciated.

  • Random syntactical error in my php code that I can't find

    Ordinarily I hate coming here with newbie code questions but nobody can find the error with this code. • How to check a file saving is complete using Python?

    - by indrajithk
    I am trying to automate a downloading process. In this I want to know, whether a particular file's save is completed or not. The scenario is like this. Open a site address using either Chrome or Firefox (any browser) Save the page to disk using 'Crtl + S' (I work on windows) Now if the page is very big, then it takes few seconds to save. I want to parse the html once the save is complete. Since I don't have control on the browser save functionality, I don't know whether the save has completed or not. One idea I thought, is to get the md5sum of the file using a while loop, and check against the previous one calculated, and continue the while loop till the md5 sum from the previous and current one matches. This doesn't works I guess, as it seems browser first attempts to save the file in a tmp file and then copies the content to the specified file (or just renames the file). Any ideas? I use python for the automation, hence any idea which can be implemented using python is welcome. Thanks Indrajith

  • JSON Returning Null in PHP

    - by kira423
    Here is the two scripts I have Script 1: if(sha1($json+$secret) == $_POST['signature']) { $conversion_id = md5(($obj['amount'])); echo "OK"; echo $conversion_id; mysql_query("INSERT INTO completed (`id`,`uid`,`completedid`) VALUES ('','".$obj['uid']."','".$conversion_id."')"); } else { } ?> Script 2: <? $json = $_POST['payload']; $secret = "78f12668216b562a79d46b170dc59f695070e532"; $obj = json_decode($json); if(sha1($json+$secret) == $_POST['signature']) { print "OK"; } else { } ?> The problem here is that it is returning all NULL values. I am not an expert with JSON so I have no idea what is going on here. I really have no way of testing it because the information is coming from an outside website sending information such as this: { payload: { uid: "900af657a65e", amount: 50, adjusted_amount: 25 }, signature: "4dd0f5da77ecaf88628967bbd91d9506" } The site allows me to test the script, but because json_decode is providing NULL values it will not get through the signature block. Is there a way I can test it myself? Or is there a simple error in this script that I may have just looked over?

  • Gearman client doBackground always returns GEARMAN_TIMEOUT

    - by Ascherer
    So, ive got a simple gearman system running right now, with a worker running. The worker basically just takes the payload (a random number in this case, and is supposed to echo it back to the screen. Literally an echo, not returning to the client. The client sends the random number. Im trying to do a $client->doBackground( 'post', 65482, md5(uniqid())); but its coming back with a 47 error (GEARMAN_TIMEOUT) every time. getErrNo() returns 0, error() returns something about GEARMAN_TIMEOUT However, when i change it to just $client->do(blah, blah, blah), it works just fine. I've even occasionally seen it where the worker still echo's the number, even after getting the timeout error... public function execute() { $method = 'do'; if( !$this->getBlock() ) { $method .= ( $this->getPriority() == 'Normal' ? '' : $this->getPriority() ) . 'Background'; } else { $method .= $this->getPriority(); } echo "Method: $method \t Worker: {$this->getName()} \t Payload: {$this->getPayload()} \t Hash: {$this->getHash()}\n"; $this->setResult( $this->getClient() ->$method( $this->getName(), $this->getPayload(), $this->getHash() ) ); if( $this->getClient()->returnCode() != GEARMAN_SUCCESS ) { echo "Code: " . $this->getClient()->returnCode() . "\t" . GEARMAN_TIMEOUT . "\n"; } }

  • Error after redirection using CakePHP

    I have created some code called LoginController. Whenever Admin gets successfully logged in I redirect the page to index. However, I got an error like "problem on loading page". This is my code: <?php class LoginController extends AdminAppController { var $name = 'Login'; var $uses = array('Admin.Login'); var $sessionkey= ''; /*function beforeFilter() { if($this->Session->read('user')=='Admin' || $this->params['action']=='login') { echo "in"; exit; } else { echo "else"; exit; $this->Session->setFlash('Login first','flash_failure'); $this->redirect(array('action'=>'login')); } }*/ function index() { } function login() { //pr($this->data); exit; if(!empty($this->data)) { $results = $this->Login->findByEmail($this->data['Login']['email']); if(!empty($results) && $results['Login']['password']== md5($this->data['Login']['password'])) { $this->Session->write('user', 'Admin'); $results['Login']['last_login']=date("Y-m-d H:i:s"); $this->Login->save($results); $this->Session->setFlash('Login successfully.', 'flash_success'); $this->redirect(array('controller'=>'login','action' => 'index')); } } } } ?> Can anyone help me?   • PHP hashing function not working properly

    - by Jordan Foreman
    So I read a quick PHP login system securing article, and was trying to sort of duplicate their hashing method, and during testing, am not getting the proper output. Here is my code: function decryptPassword($pw, $salt){ $hash = hash('sha256', $salt . hash('sha256', $pw)); return $hash; } function encryptPassword($pw){ $hash = hash('sha256', $pw); $salt = substr(md5(uniqid(rand(), true)), 0, 3); $hash = hash('sha265', $salt . $hash); return array( 'salt' => $salt, 'hash' => $hash ); } And here is my testing code: $pw = $_GET['pw']; $enc = encryptPassword($pw); $hash = $enc['hash']; $salt = $enc['salt']; echo 'Pass: ' . $pw . '<br />'; echo 'Hash: ' . $hash . '<br />'; echo 'Salt: ' . $salt . '<br />'; echo 'Decrypt: ' . decryptPassword($hash, $salt); Now, the output of this should be pretty obvious, but unfortunately, the $hash variable always comes out empty! I'm trying to figure out what the problem could be, and my only guess would be the second $hash assignment line in the encryptPassword(..) function. After a little testing, I've determined that the first assignment works smoothly, but the second does not. Any suggestions? Thanks SO!

  • Hashing 11 byte unique ID to 32 bits or less

    - by MoJo
    I am looking for a way to reduce a 11 byte unique ID to 32 bits or fewer. I am using an Atmel AVR microcontroller that has the ID number burned in at the factory, but because it has to be transmitted very often in a very low power system I want to reduce the length down to 4 bytes or fewer. The ID is guaranteed unique for every microcontroller. It is made up of data from the manufacturing process, basically the coordinates of the silicone on the wafer and the production line that was used. They look like this: 304A34393334-16-11001000 314832383431-0F-09000C00 Obviously the main danger is that by reducing these IDs they become non-unique. Unfortunately I don't have a large enough sample size to test how unique these numbers are. Having said that because there will only be tens of thousands of devices in use and there is secondary information that can be used to help identify them (such as their approximate location, known at the time of communication) collisions might not be too much of an issue if they are few and far between. Is something like MD5 suitable for this? My concern is that the data being hashed is very short, just 11 bytes. Do hash functions work reliably on such short data?

  • How to specify hash algorithm when updating LDAP via Java?

    - by JuanZe
    Is there a way to specify the hash algorithm (MD5, SHA1, etc.) to use for storing the passwords when you update an Open LDAP directory using Java APIs with code like this: private void resetPassword(String principal, String newPassword) throws NamingException { InitialDirContext ctxAdmin = null; Hashtable<String, String> ctxData = new Hashtable<String, String>(); ctxData.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory"); ctxData.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://myserver:389"); ctxData.put(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION, "simple"); ctxData.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "admin_dn"); ctxData.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "admin_passwd"); InitialDirContext ctxAdmin = new InitialDirContext(ctxData); if (newPassword == null || newPassword.equals("")) { String msg = "Password can't be null"; throw new NamingException(msg); } else { if (principal == null || principal.equals("")) { String msg = "Principal can't be null"; throw new NamingException(msg); } else { if (ctxAdmin == null) { String errCtx = "Can't get LDAP context"; throw new NamingException(errCtx); } } } BasicAttribute attr = new BasicAttribute("userpassword", newPassword); ModificationItem modItem = new ModificationItem(DirContext.REPLACE_ATTRIBUTE, attr); ModificationItem[] items = new ModificationItem[1]; items[0] = modItem; ctxAdmin.modifyAttributes("cn=" + principal + ",ou=Users,dc=com", items); }

  • How to handle ids and polymorphic associations in views if compound keys are not supported?

    - by duncan
    I have a Movie plan table: movie_plans (id, description) Each plan has items, which describe a sequence of movies and the duration in minutes: movie_plan_items (id, movie_plan_id, movie_id, start_minutes, end_minutes) A specific instance of that plan happens in: movie_schedules (id, movie_plan_id, start_at) However the schedule items can be calculated from the movie_plan_items and the schedule start time by adding the minutes create view movie_schedule_items as select CONCAT(p.id, '-', s.id) as id, s.id as movie_schedule_id, p.id as movie_plan_item_id, p.movie_id, p.movie_plan_id, (s.start_at + INTERVAL p.start_minutes MINUTE) as start_at, (s.start_at + INTERVAL p.end_minutes MINUTE) as end_at from movie_plan_items p, movie_schedules s where s.movie_plan_id=p.movie_plan_id; I have a model over this view (readonly), it works ok, except that the id is right now a string. I now want to add a polymorphic property (like comments) to various of the previous tables. Therefore for movie_schedule_items I need a unique and persistent numeric id. I have the following dilemma: I could avoid the id and have movie_schedule_items just use the movie_plan_id and movie_schedule_id as a compound key, as it should. But Rails sucks in this regard. I could create an id using String#hash or a md5, thus making it slower or collision prone (and IIRC String#hash is no longer persistent across processes in Ruby 1.9) Any ideas on how to handle this situation?

  • PHP Session doesn't get read in next page after login validation, Why?

    - by NetStar
    I have a web site and when my users login it takes them to verify.php (where it connects to the DataBase and matches email and password to the user input and if OK puts client data into sessions and take the client to /memberarea/index.php ELSE back to login page with message "Invalid Email or password!") <?php ob_start(); session_start(); $email=$_POST['email']; $pass=md5($_POST['pass']); include("conn.php"); // connects to Database $sql="SELECT * FROM `user` WHERE email='$email' AND pass='$pass'"; $result=mysql_query($sql); $new=mysql_fetch_array($result); $_SESSION['fname']=$new['fname']; $_SESSION['lname']=$new['lname']; $_SESSION['email1']=$new['email1']; $_SESSION['passwrd']=$new['passwrd']; $no=mysql_num_rows($result); if ($no==1){ header('Location:memberarea/index.php'); }else { header("Location:login.php?m=$msg"); //msg="Invalid Login" } ?> then after email id and password is verified it takes them to ` /memberarea/index.php (This is where the problem happens.) where in index.php it checks if a session has been created in-order to block hackers to enter member area and sends them back to the login page. <? session_start(); isset($_SESSION['email'])` && `isset($_SESSION['passwrd'])` The problem is the client gets verified in verify.php (the code is above) In varify.php only after I put ob_start(); ontop of session_start(); It moves on to /memberarea/index.php , If I remove ob_start() It keeps the client on the verify.php page and displays error header is alredy SENT. after I put ob_start() it goes in to /memberarea/index.php but the session is blank, so it goes back to the login page and displays the error ($msg) "Invalid Login" which I programed to display. Can anyone tell me why the session cant pass values from verify.php to /memberarea/index.php

  • Android SDK and Java

    - by Soonts
    Android SDK Manager complains "WARNING: Java not found in your path". Instead of using the information from Windows registry, the software tries to search Java in the default installation folders, and fails (I don't install software in program files because I don't like space characters in my paths). Of course I know how to modify the %PATH% environment variable. The question is — which Java does it need? After installing the latest JDK, I’ve got 4 distinct versions of java.exe file, in the following 4 folders: system32, jre6\bin, jdk1.6.0_26\bin, and jdk1.6.0_26\jre\bin. Size ranges from 145184 to 171808. All of them print version “1.6.0_26” when launched with the “-version” argument. The one in system32 has .exe version “6.0.250.6”, the rest of them is “6.0.260.3”. All 4 files are different (I’ve calculated the MD5 checksums). Q1. Which folder should I add to %PATH% to make the Android SDK happy? Q2. Why does Oracle build that many variants of java.exe of the same version for the same platform? Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium, and downloaded the 64-bit version of JDK, jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe.

  • Storing large json strings to database + hash

    - by Guy
    I need to store quiete large JSON data strings to the database. I am using gzip to compress the string and therefore BLOB MySQL data type to store it. However, only 5% of all the requests contain unique data and only unique data ought to be stored to the database. My approach is as follows. array_multisort data (array [a, b, c] is virtually the same as [a, c, b]). json_encode data (json_encode is faster than serialize; we need string array representation for the step 3). sha1 data (slower than md5, though less possible the collisions). Check if the hash exists in the database. 5.1 yes – do not insert the data. 5.2. no – gzip the data and store it along the hash. Is there anything about this (apart from storing JSON data to the database in the first place) that sounds fishy or should be done a different way? p.s. We are talking about a database with roughly 1kk unique records being created every month.

I tried installing from a bootable USB stick (using syslinux + contents of the ISO) All attempts have yielded the same result: When verifying the installation media, at 0% initializing, the following is reported: "Some packages appeared to be damaged." followed by a list of pretty much all the gz2 and rpm packages. If I skip the media verification the installer proceeds and then gives me an error when it reaches "Installing from base pack" at 0% which states "An unrecoverable error has occurred. The error was: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 20710: ordinal not in range(128) Please refer to your user guide, or contact a Technical Support Representative, for further details" there is one option left which is to reboot. Apparently at some point during the processing of the repositories on the installation media non-ascii characters are found, which causes the installer to quit. How do I fix this? And guess what, the .py extention of the file you have to edit in this link community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1168 means the installer is written in python. Python is interpreted, so now to find the install file responsible for this error. – cmaduro 6 hours ago The file that generates the error upon verification is /opt/xensource/installer/tui/repo.py. The error message appears around line 359. – cmaduro 2 hours ago I am fairly sure that the install error is generated somewhere in repository.py as the backend.py file throws errors while methods in that file are being called. Perhaps all errors can be traced back to this file. – cmaduro 1 hour ago

    When I run vagrant up to provision a new VM on Lion it takes an extremely long time, during which the entire Mac is very laggy and unresponsive. • Can RPM packages be installed into Cygwin?

    - by Dejian Zhao
    I noticed that there is a command - rpm - under Cygwin 1.7. Does that mean RPM packages can be installed into Cygwin? I tried to install ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3.i686.rpm (see: ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/executables/blast+/LATEST/ ) into Cygwin 1.7.13 with the command "install -i ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3.i686.rpm". However, error message appeared as below. I tried to search for the missing libs using the setup.exe of Cygwin. It seems that some of them were not present, such as libc.so.6, libdl.so.2, libm.so.6, libnsl.so.1, and libz.so.1. Where can I get these libs? Thanks! $ rpm -i ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3.i686.rpm error: Failed dependencies: /usr/bin/perl is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libbz2.so.1 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.2) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libdl.so.2 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libgcc_s.so.1 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.0) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libgcc_s.so.1(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libm.so.6 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libnsl.so.1 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libpthread.so.0 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.3.2) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 librt.so.1 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libstdc++.so.6 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libstdc++.so.6(CXXABI_1.3) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.5) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 libz.so.1 is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(Archive::Tar) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(Digest::MD5) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(File::Temp) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(File::stat) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(Getopt::Long) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(Net::FTP) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(Pod::Usage) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(constant) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(strict) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3 perl(warnings) is needed by ncbi-blast-2.2.26+-3

  • DNSBL listed at zen.spamhaus.org - cant get outgoing mail working? Am I interpreting the response correctly?

    - by Joe Hopfgartner
    I have problem with a mailserver and there is something I kind of not understand! I can connect, authenticate, specify the sender address - but when specifying the reciever i get a error 550 which looks like so: RCPT TO:[email protected] 550-DNSBL listed at zen.spamhaus.org 550 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=62.178.15.161 Now the strange thing is that 62.178.15.161 is my local client address. Not the servers ip address. Also the error code 550 seems to be defined as so: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable To me that makes totally no sense. Why this error code with this spamhaus message? Why the local ip adress and not the servers? There is exim running and there is nothing turning up in the logs mail.err mail.info mail.log mail.warn in /var/log I looked up both the servers and the clients ip adress on blacklists. The clients ip adress is listed on some (as expected), but the server is totally clean. Here is the complete telnet log when I reproduced the error. Mail clients like Evolution and Thunderbird give me the same spamhaus error message. joe@joe-desktop:~$ telnet mail.hunsynth.org 25 Trying 193.164.132.42... Connected to mail.hunsynth.org. So it really looks like the server does check the IP wich establiches the connection is in some blacklist. This is theoretically a good thing - but - the authentication on the server should prevent that? Or shouldn't it? Well I just think it would be absurd if I couldn't send email over my smtp server from my dynamic ISP connection because the dynamic is listed, altough i have a clean server with login?
