  Okay, I'm sorry that this is pretty complicated, but it shouldn't be that hard to solve... Here's what I want to do. I have an HTML form that I want to upload to MySQL with PHP. That part's easy, but the thing is I want the submit button to be a Flash object. Somehow I need the Flash button to submit the form, but I think I can figure that out. The tricky part is that I need it to set another PHP variable before submitting the form. The variable will be determined by a bunch of stuff, but I can code that in actionscript later. I just need to figure out how to pass the variable back to the webpage. A $_POST variable would probably be fine. Thanks!! Let me know if I need to clarify more...

  Hello! I am trying to allow administrators to upload 20-30 images in one go. I have tried jquery uploadify, SWFUpload and other various jquery scripts. However I have had many issues doing this. Uploadify worked fine, however it stopped working and after a day of debugging I couldn't figure out why (and by god, I tried to figure out why) So I have decided to try a java applet, however they all seem to cost quite abit of money. All I need is something to select some images, then each image upload pings and address where I can resize them in PHP, and done. Does anyone know a freeware solution thats easy to use?

The python application can be used using xml-rpc from a python console.I am given the task to design a json-rpc that would contact the same application.Making the python server side has been easy which can be accesed using python console but making the mozilla extension to connect to the python serverside is what i am not understanding howto ??? how do i make cross site json rpc calls i have gone through a lot of libraries that i can find on googling but none of them seem to work i am not sure if it is because of same origin policy or my server side not able to process the data ???   Context A number of my application user configuration files are kept in a git repository for easy sharing across multiple machines and multiple platforms. Amongst these configuration files is .gitconfig which contains the following settings for handling the carriage return linefeed characters [core] autocrlf = true safecrlf = false Problem These settings also gets applied on a GNU/Linux platform which causes obscure errors. Question What are some best practices for handling these platform specific differences in configuration files? Proposed solution I realize this problem could be solved by having a branch for each platform and keeping the common stuff in master and merging with the platform branch when master moves forward. I'm wondering if there are any easier solutions to this problem?

For the business rules I'm looking for a rules engine that's both easy to use for me and my users, which will work with SL3. Is something like that available out of the box or will I need to roll my own? I've Googled and looked around the various code sites (Codeplex, Code Project etc), but didn't see anything that suits my needs. I did also have a good long look at NxBRE, but it's Rules syntax is too complex for 'dummy' users.

  Hi! I have been using CC.NET for a while and decided to try Team City. The initial and default configuration is very easy, but how do I swap configuration files after code is checked out and before unit tests are run. I am using TFS, NUnit. 1. When working locally I have configuration file pointing to local server. 2. On the build server TeamCity get's notification that I have checked-in code and builds new version. 3. Server runs unit tests When on 3rd step server runs unit tests I need to swap configuration files that are pointing to other servers, not the ones I am using locally. • Problem with importing an mdf created with SQL Server Express 2008 into SQL Server 2005

  The question is probably extremely easy to resolve, but I need to resolve it because I need to carry on with my project. I am using SQL Server Express 2008 at home, and I've been working on an ASP.NET MVC app that stores my DB in an mdf file in the project's folder. The problem is that the SQL Server in the Uni labs is SQL Server 2005, and when I try to open the mdf file with the VS Server Explorer,It says that the version of the mdf file is more than the server can accept. The only option that comes to my mind is exporting the DB as an sql file, just like I've done it thousand times with phpmyadmin. the thing is that the SQL Management Studio Express is not the most usable tool in the world, and for some strange reason all the articles I could find in Google were irrelevant. Please, help.

  Hi Guys, I am trying to write an Add-In to Powerpoint that does basically one thing: Give users a Button somewhere to click, once they click on it the currently selected TextField should get syntax highlighted. The Syntax highlighting part is easy, I'm just having a real hard time finding some good information on how to successfully interact with Powerpoint from code. There are some MSDN articles highlighting how to add controls on document start or AddSlide, but no good information on how to extend the UI. Has anyone had some experience in this field and could point me to some resource that may help? Also, I am running Powerpoint 2007 while my customer may end up running PPT2003. • Display Image over map layer in GeoServer

  Hi I am newbie when it comes to GeoServer and trying to figure out if there is an easy way to display images on top of map layer. A background: In my application, based on a search criteria, some polygons are drawn on the map. Each polygon has a corresponding image (in TIFF format) that is stored somewhere. I want to load the image on top of the map when the user zooms in to a certain zoom level. I know this can be done using openLayers but since my images are in TIFF format, (openLayers is not able to render TIFF images as far as i know) i have to convert them to .PNG first which would be very slow considering the number of images i have. Hence I was wondering whether it would be possible to create a image layer that would retrieve an image of a certain polygon at a certain zoom level. If so, could anyone point me to an example or give me an idea on whether this is possible. I am using spring 2.5, tomcat 5, java 1.6 and geoserver 2.0 Thanks.

  I'm on the verge of starting a new web application that is likely to have need for both standard, simple dropdowns as well as more feature-rich autocomplete controls for longer lists of values, better type ahead behavior, etc. I'm planning on using the jQuery UI Autocomplete widget along with some combobox behavior as detailed here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#combobox My concern is that "out of the box" the Autocomplete widget looks very different than a standard control. Since is not easy to skin/style, I'm hoping to adjust the Autocomplete to look & feel as close to the as possible, except in the cases where the increased functionality justifies a different L&F. What is the best way to go about reskinning the Autocomplete to look more like a ? Has this already been done somewhere? Should I use jQuery UI theming? Other options?

• Remote Backup User Data on iPhone

  I wrote a few iPhone apps using Core Data for persistent storage. Everything is working great but I would like to add the ability for users to back up their data to a PC (via WiFi to a PC app) or to a web server. This is new to me and I can't seem to figure out where to begin researching the problem. I don't want to overcomplicate the issue if there is an easy way to implement this. Is anyone familiar enough with what I am looking to do to point me in the right direction or give me a high level overview of what I should be considering? The data is all text and would be perfectly stored in .csv files if that matters.

• Easiest way to decrypt PGP-encrypted files from VBA (MS Access)

  I need to write code that picks up PGP-encrypted files from an FTP location and processes them. The files will be encrypted with my public key (not that I have one yet). Obviously, I need a PGP library that I can use from within Microsoft Access. Can you recommend one that is easy to use? I'm looking for something that doesn't require a huge amount of PKI knowledge. Ideally, something that will easily generate the one-off private/public key pair, and then have a simple routine for decryption.

• Search and display buisness locations on MKMapView

  Hello, I'm trying to find a way to search for a business, such as "grocery stores" and display them on a google map around the users current location. This used to be pretty simple with the old URL style of launching the apple map location but I can't find out how to do it with the MKMapView. I understand that I'll need to use the MKAnnotations classes but my problem is with finding the data. I've tried plugging in the URL below to get the info from google but the size of the data seems way too large. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=grocery&mrt=yp&sll=37.769561,-122.412844&z=14&output=kml Is there an easy way to just set a property that tells the MKMapView to search for a keyword and display all matching business around my current location? Or does anybody know how to get this information from google?

• Stop Duplicate Ajax Submisions?

  Hi I am wondering what is the best way to stop duplciate submissions when using jquery and ajax? I come up with 2 possible ways but not sure if these are the only 2. On Ajax start disable all buttons till request is done. 2 problems I see with this though is I use jquery model dialog so I don't know how easy it would be to disable those button as I not sure if they have id's. Second I if the the request hangs the user has really no way to try again since all the buttons are disabled. I am looking into something called AjaxQueue at this time I have no clue if it is what I need or how it works since the site where the plugin is apparently down for maintenance. http://docs.jquery.com/AjaxQueue

• Modal MessageBox for ASP.NET without jQuery

  I have an assembly with custom ASP.NET server controls that is used in several, mostly in-house, ASP.NET 2.0 applications. The server controls use simple modal popup messageboxes, which are currently implemented using the javascript alert and confirm functions. I want to release a new version of this assembly that uses a better solution for messageboxes, including support for Yes/No buttons. The appearance would be something like a simplified version of the Ajax Control Toolkit ModalPopup extender (sample here). My constraints are that this should be as easy as possible to integrate into existing ASP.NET 2.0 applications without introducing new dependencies: ideally just drop in a new version of the assembly, that contains all the javascript it needs as an embedded resource, and possibly a CSS file. Because of this constraint, I am not considering solutions I've seen that use jquery, or the ASP.NET Ajax Control Toolkit, which appears to require adding elements to pages that use the extenders (ScriptManagers and the like). Any recommendations?

  Hi All, I was hoping someone can assist in describing a workaround solution to the following issue I am running into on my ASP.NET website on IE. In the following I will describe the bug and clarify the requirements of the needed solution. Repro Steps: User visits A.aspx A.aspx uses Response.Redirect to bring the user to B.aspx#house On B.aspx#house, the user clicks a button that sets window.location.hash='test' Actual Results: B.aspx is loaded again. The URL now shows B.aspx#test Expected Results: No reload. The URL will just change to B.aspx#test Requirements: Page A must redirect to page B with a fragment identifier in the url Any user action on page B will set the location.hash Setting location.hash must not make page B refresh This must work on IE Notes: Bug only repros on IE (tested on ie6|7|8). Opera, FF, Chrome, Safari all have the expected results of no reload. This error may have nothing to do with ASP.NET, and everything to do with IE For any kind soul willing to have a look at this, I have created a minimal ASP.NET web project to make it easy to repro here

  I have a Project model and it has some text attributes, one is summary. I have some projects that have html tags in the summary and I want to convert that to plain text. I have this method that has a regex that will remove all html tags. def strip_html_comments_on_data self.attributes.each{|key,value| value.to_s.gsub!(/(<[^>]+>|&nbsp;|\r|\n)/,"")} end I also have a before_save filter before_save :strip_html_comments_on_data The problem is that the html tags are still there after saving the project. • Rails remove parent HTML tag

  It's pretty easy to sanitize HTML and strip ALL instances of a HTML tag using Rails helpers... But how do you just remove ONE tag? In this case, I'm using a WYSIWYG editor that insists on wrapping all my text in a <p> tag. I want to remove this parent tag without stripping out any other <p> tags within the content of the text. I know I could do this in JQuery really easily but I feel like this should be done server-side in my controller before I save the text. Is there a way to do this?

  Fellows, I'm going crazy with looks like a really stupid problem. I'm trying to build a simple example using PostSharp as a log AOP utility. I've not installed PostSharp, and I don't want to, I want to reference the necessaries DLLs, change my .csproj and see everything working. Change the project and add references was kind of easy, byt just after adding the LogAttribute to a method I got two errors: Error 1 'Log4PostSharp.LogAttribute' is not an attribute class C:\Dev\LogWithPostsharp\LogWithPostsharpCmd\Program.cs 17 10 LogWithPostsharpCmd Error 2 The type 'PostSharp.Extensibility.MulticastAttribute' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. • Code Contracts: Unit testing contracted code

  Code contracts and unit tests are not replacements for each other. They both have different purpose and different nature. It does not matter if you are using code contracts or not – you still have to write tests for your code. In this posting I will show you how to unit test code with contracts. In my previous posting about code contracts I showed how to avoid ContractExceptions that are defined in code contracts runtime and that are not accessible for us in design time. This was one step further to make my randomizer testable. In this posting I will complete the mission. Problems with current code This is my current code. public class Randomizer {     public static int GetRandomFromRangeContracted(int min, int max)     {         Contract.Requires<ArgumentOutOfRangeException>(             min < max,             "Min must be less than max"         );           Contract.Ensures(             Contract.Result<int>() >= min &&             Contract.Result<int>() <= max,             "Return value is out of range"         );           var rnd = new Random();         return rnd.Next(min, max);     } } As you can see this code has some problems: randomizer class is static and cannot be instantiated. We cannot move this class between components if we need to, GetRandomFromRangeContracted() is not fully testable because we cannot currently affect random number generator output and therefore we cannot test post-contract. Now let’s solve these problems. Making randomizer testable As a first thing I made Randomizer to be class that must be instantiated. This is simple thing to do. Now let’s solve the problem with Random class. To make Randomizer testable I define IRandomGenerator interface and RandomGenerator class. Writing tests for randomizer IRandomGenerator solved problem with testing post-condition. Now it is time to write tests for Randomizer class. Writing tests for contracted code is not easy. The main problem is still ContractException that we are not able to access. Still it is the main exception we get as soon as contracts fail. Although pre-conditions are able to throw exceptions with type we want we cannot do much when post-conditions will fail. We have to use Contract.ContractFailed event and this event is called for every contract failure. This way we find ourselves in situation where supporting well input interface makes it impossible to support output interface well and vice versa. ContractFailed is nasty hack and it works pretty weird way. Although documentation sais that ContractFailed is good choice for testing contracts it is still pretty painful. As a last chance I got tests working almost normally when I wrapped them up. Can you remember similar solution from the times of Visual Studio 2008 unit tests? Here is the test list after running these tests. Conclusion Code contracts are very new stuff in Visual Studio world and as young technology it has some problems – like all other new bits and bytes in the world. As you saw then making our contracted code testable is easy only to the point when pre-conditions are considered. When we start dealing with post-conditions we will end up with hacked tests. I hope that future versions of code contracts will solve error handling issues the way that testing of contracted code will be easier than it is right now.

• How to implement Comet server side with Python?

  I once tried to implement Comet in PHP. Soon, I found that PHP is not suitable for Comet, since each HTTP request will occupy one process/thread. As a result, it doesn't scale well. I just installed mod_python in my XAMPP. I thought it would be easy to implement Comet with Python asynchronous programming. But still cannot get a clue how to implement it. Is there any idea how to implement Comet in mod_python?
