    I am creating a client-server application and I'd like to send data from server to client securely. Using public/private key algorithms makes sense and in PHP we can use openssl_sign and openssl_verify functions to check that the data came by someone who has the private key. Now imagine that one of the actions sent by server to client is destructive in nature. If somebody uses an HTTP sniffer to catch this command (which will be signed properly) how can I further protect the communication to ensure that only commands coming from our server get processed by the client? I was thinking about using current UTC time as part of the encrypted data but client time might be off. Is there a simple solution to the problem?

    I need to convert a credit card expire field from MMYY to a date field I can use in a MS SQL query so I can compute when credit cards are expiring in the future. Basically, I need to go from MMYY to MM/DD/YYYY, where the day part could just be '01' (the first of the month). I'm looking for credit cards that are expiring next month from a database. The problem I'm running into is when next month is the first month of the next year. Here's the code I have for determining expired card: (CAST(SUBSTRING(CCExpire,3,2) as int) + 2000 < YEAR(GETDATE())) or ( (CAST(SUBSTRING(CCExpire,3,2) as int) + 2000 = YEAR(GETDATE())) AND (CAST(SUBSTRING(CCExpire,1,2) as int) < MONTH(GETDATE())) ) And here's the code for cards expiring this month: (CAST(SUBSTRING(CCExpire,3,2) as int) + 2000 = YEAR(GETDATE())) AND (CAST(SUBSTRING(CCExpire,1,2) as int) = MONTH(GETDATE())) Now I need code for cards expiring next month...

    hi, I am using php session for a basic login without encryption for my site. I want to prevent a user from directly accessing a php page by typing the url when he/she is not signed in. But this is not happening. I am using session_start(), initializing session variables and aslo unsetting and destroying sesssion during logout. Also if I type the link in a different browser the page is getting displayed. I am not very well versed with php , only a beginner. I googled for such problem and found few alternatives as keeping all files in a seperate folder from the web root, using .htaccess etc. Can someone explain in simple terms what could be a good solution.thanks in advance.

    Hi, I am in a situation where multiple threads reading the same huge file with mutliple file pointers to same file. The file will have atleast 1 million lines. Eachline's length varies from 500 characters to 1500 characters. There won't "write" operations on the file. Each thread will start reading the same file from different lines. Which is the efficient way..? Using the Python's linecache or normal readline() or is there anyother effient way?

I have placed the file on a computer on the network and can view through browsers such as Chrome or Mozilla, from any computer on the local network. However, Safari on a Mac and the iPhone do not find the file! An example of the URL I use is 'file://computer/SharedDocs/file.csv'. Why do Safari and the iPhone fail to find the file?

    I'd like to make an Android app that lets a user apply cool effects to photos taken with the camera. There are already a few out there, I know, but I'd like to try my own hand at one. I'm trying to figure out the best way to implement these effects. Here are some examples from the excellent Vignette app (which I own): http://www.flickr.com/groups/vignetteforandroid/pool/ I have been googling and stack-overflowing, but so far I've mostly found some references to published papers or books. I am ordering this one from Amazon presently - Digital Image Processing: An Algorithmic Introduction using Java After some reading, I think I have a basic understanding of manipulating the RGB values for all the pixels in the image. My main question is how do I come up with a transformation that produces cool effects? By cool effects I mean some like those in the Vignette app or IPhone apps: ToyCamera Polarize I already have quite a bit of experience with Java, and I've made my first app for android already.     I am developing a navigation menu in silverlight that has 6 images. As you mouseover each image grows and clicking on an image will take you to a page on the website. The customer I am doing this for decided that straight rectangular images were boring and I showed him a design where I have slanted each image so each one is now a rhomboid shape. Horizontal top and bottom with sides slanting about 30deg from vertical. I have been unable to figure out any way of growing each image on mouseover without putting a white block over the adjacent images. Would be grateful for any pointers.
